Unable to Connect to Camera - Desire General

HTC Desire running CM7 RC2
My camera was working last week. Recently, after it fell and hit the hard floor, when I open the camera app it says, "unable to connect to camera" until I go back to the home screen.
I wiped everything, tried a few different ROMs, even flashed some different camera apps that I found, nothing worked.
Any ideas? or did the fall do it in?
Thanks.

Well, different software did not help - high possibility that the camera was damaged in the impact.

[Q] Camera problem

I have a HTC Desire bought just a couple of weeks ago. Suddenly the camera stopped working, when I start the camera app (or any other app that uses the camera) I just have a black screen and nothing else.
I suspect the application Instant Heart Rate could be the culprit because after I updated this application the camera stopped working. Or at least that moment I noticed that malfunction.
I have Froyo 2.2 stock, no other modification.
Does anybody know how can I solve this?
I mention I uninstalled Instant Heart Rate and also did a factory reset, but nothing happend.
Root? What's your phones info?

have you tried accessing the camera using 3rd party apps? eg. retro cam, barcode scanner. If it still doesn't respond, try flashing another rom, still not working, flash a RUU and send it in for repairs.
*edit*: You have not rooted your phone, it is more likely to be a hardware fault then...
I haven't rooted my Desire. I am so annoyed to read this could be a hardware issue.

[Q] Trouble with Camera: Camera Turns off and one while trying to use.

Hi there,
I've got a lovely new HTC Desire HD , its been working fine for about a month, however something really strange is happening with the camera.
When in the defult camera app, the camera focuses nice and clear, pauses for half a second, then the screen goes black with a large phyisical mechanical shutter sound and feeling, then the camera reinitializes, focuses nice and clear... then the loop continues.
This keeps happening, even while trying to take a picture, if I'm not quick, the picture wont capture.
This doesnt seem to be effected by video mode...
Anyone got any ideas?
-Just to clarify, this is not the phone turning off after taking a picture bug. This is one I can't find anyone else mentioning anywhere. The phone is still one, the camera app just goes black and shutter goes clonk every few seconds after focusing.
Hi, this happened to me as well. I isolated the problem with the OC module I'm using. I don't use the Buzz kernel rather go the GScript route and load the module first, then cpoc then noreboot, oshitt then 100-1459 etc... which I have to do everytime I reboot.
I've tested it quite a few times and the phone sometimes hangs when loading the oshitt script. To remedy the situation, whenever the phone just rebooted, I go to the camera app first, test the video for a few seconds then exit out of the program before loading the GScripts...
Not sure if you are using SetCPU and loading scripts but its as close as I could describe to help you out mate!
Thanks for the reply,
I haven't actually changed anything on this phone from stock, its not rooted nor does it have any form of OC or different ROM to the Orange, thats whats so puzzling.
The phone doesnt restart, just the app. I've narrowed it down to notice this ONLY happens when the camera focuses into something, either by tap or autofocus...
In the interim I've installed camera 360 that seems to work ok, which leads me to believe its more of a software problem then a hardware.
Camcorder started working normally but still no luck with the stock camera app
Maybe when 2.3 is released on dhd, this may resolve?

Are you running a task killer?
No task killer running, I used to have one bit realised they were not worth the effort, especially after the usb debugging fix!

I ask because I was having the same issue, and thought it may have been due to the task killer I was using. I think I've found my problem now though... I was using Tasker to control my display brightness, and strangely this caused the camera to exhibit the behaviour you describe. I've modified my Tasker settings to set brightness to Auto when camera is on and this appears to have resolved the problem. So do you have any 3rd party app controlling your screen brightness...?

Thanks for the reply, I've tried playing around, still no luck, I don't think I have any programs that control the brightness. still can't find many other people who have had this issue. If it carries on, I may try to hard reset as I also can't use Google goggles anymore.

[Q] Camera Constantly FC'ing, any ideas??

Hey all. Starting about two weeks ago, I was starting to get constant FC's on my Camera application and all apps that use the camera.
When I tried restoring back to a nightly where the camera had worked, it opened to the front facing camera and as soon as I tried to switch it to the back camera, it froze, then FC'd and refused to open.
I did a completely clean wipe and installed CM7 Final and I am still having the same issue.
I have tried:
1. Fixing permissions
2. Clearing the data for the Camera App through settings->applications and also through Titanium Backup
3. Deleting the Camera App through Titanium and reinstalling CM7 Final
4. Installing a new kernel (SZ)
5. Switching back to a Sense ROM (camera was still FC'ing)
6. Un-rooting my phone AND hard resetting the stock ROM
and NOTHING has worked. I NEED my camera, it's one of the main reasons why I love my phone so much!
I'm on HW004 which I suspect has something to do with this all.
I took this into the Sprint store the last time this happened and they told me that they "replaced the camera application" but I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate.
I would normally take this into the Sprint store again but it's very difficult for me to get there (I'm a college student without a car) so I'd prefer to find a way of fixing it without having to bring it in.
Anyone have any ideas???

If you've wiped and flashed to a different rom, unrooted your phone and did a hard reset of the stock rom and THIS PROBLEM IS STILL PRESENT?.....Then I hate to tell you dude....you don't have a software problem! You need to find a way to the sprint store OR call customer service and go through the whole technical support crap and have them send you a replacement phone or something. It sounds to me like something messed up your camera to where it won't work any more.....maybe you dropped it or something...spilled O.J. on it or something.....Aliens messed around with your phone and are now laughing at you......SOMETHING WENT WRONG WITH YOUR CAMERA and it isn't anything involving software like the camera app!

Camera issue

Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
So I just recently bought a brand new One X from At&t's site. So far the phone is great and I really like it. But here is the issue and this is a weird one : the back 8mp camera doesn't work! I searched on google and youtube for solutions but to no avail. I say it doesnt work because it just shows a black screen and acts if its frozen or something, but I can press the home and other buttons succesfuly. It won't even let me switch to the front facing camera (no button to do so). So I did a factory reset on the device to see if that fixed it. It didn't but the front facing camera started working about 30 minutes into the usage after reset. It still doesn't show a button to switch cameras, and even other camera apps are the same (they just show front facing camera).. Any ideas on whats going on, or what I need to do..I am really trying to avoid a trip to the At&t store......cpied but the same problem
safest thing to do would to go back to the AT&T store, as long as it wasn't you who effed it up.

[Q] Htc Camera app Black screen, but camera is fine!

Hi,
I come to you for a strange problem...
From one week, I can't use the HTC camera app. When i launch it, I have a black screen. I thought the camera was broken but snapchat was working :/
So, I donwloaded an other camera app (google), and front and rear camera work well. But, if I start Htc camera app, and other camera, it will bug, I just have to close the HTC app and others apps work again... I tried to clear data app.
I Run ARHD 11.1, root, s-off...
Does anyone seen it before?
Thanks,
Allan
Edit : When I am on the HTC cameara app, I can activate the flash, take a picture (because I know where the buttons are)..But the screen is still black!
Same issue mate
I've cleared the data and still no joy other apps work just not the htc camera as its just black but I know it still works as I can hear it, what modules do you have running mate? I'm in viper one 2.5 and s-off
I also have a black screen on my Camera app htc one m8
Try to re-flash the ROM, with full wipe (data, cache and Dalvik).
Also, make sure your firmware is up to date.
I don't want to reflash tho as just got the phone how I like it minus the camera tho lol Google camera works I've uninstall htc m8 camera and reinstalled it fresh still no joy just a black screen maybe I'll wait for a update on the viper one rom, oh also the mini camera works of the viper side bar
I'm having this same issue in the same rom but when I use Google camera it says can't connect to camera
Do you have any screen rotation locks on?
I had this exact same problem and I looked all over for a solution with no luck. Other than a hard reset I had run out of options. I was deleting other apps that use the camera and checking back every time, and one time I opened the app and it worked for a few seconds before turning the screen landscape (I was still holding it portrait), then turning to black screen again. I checked my rotation lock, and it was locked to portrait. I tried unlocking the rotation and what do you know, it worked perfectly after that. I tried relocking the screen rotation to portrait, and the problem came back. I turned it off again, and it works perfectly.
