i wanna be able to organized my pics and music however i dont know how to make folders on my phone...its not rooted and i dont plan on to... so is there a way without rooting it? please help! many thanks!
If you are talking about folders on the home screen, just long press like you would to add an app, just hit folder instead.
If you are talking about on the sd card, use an app like Astro, or plug into a pc and add folders just like you would with windows.

hey any one can tell me that how to hide video?????????????
or any sofware wwhich hide video from galary????????????????
Explain what you want in better words, please. I think i won't be the only one who does not understand what you posted.
I think the guy wants to know if there is any way to hide video from the gallery.
Simple. No or at least not to my knowledge anyway. Gallery reads everything that is image and video related, no matter what it is and shows it. You could use other apps and just not include that folder, but nontheless it would still be on there.

Okay, this could be. If, i would advise the same.
Well, since Android is linux based, you put a . in front of the file name (e.g. -> IMAGE066.jpg to .IMAGE066.jpg) - it won't show up in ES File Explorer, but not sure about the gallery.
Also you can transfer the files you don't want to see into a separate folder (e.g. Secret) and when you open gallery, you hit Menu and select Show/ Hide albums and deselect the Folder you don't want to see (maybe sense 2.1 or newer ROMs needed).
Third alternative: use B-Folders
Stick stuff you want to hide in a separate folder and put a file called .nomedia in the folder.
Your stuff shouldn't show up anywhere then.
Alternatively don't store porn on a phone you share with your mum.
Hi,
Does anyone know how I can exclude folders from display when I use the Gallery app?
I have lots of books in Aldiko that have covers and the Gallery app loads each of them when I use it. This can really slow down the use of the Gallery app.
I have tried manually deleting them whilst in Gallery but if I switch the device off it just reloads them the next time I use Gallery.
Hope someone can advise.

I know this works for music but i think it should also work for pictures. You can create or copy a .nomedia file in the folder and it won't scan the folder

The real solution for this is to use quickpic and then it will let you exclude folders.
Are you sure you're not trying to hid your porn pics or videos?
OK, here's the pro tip from yours truly. Make a folder and when you name it, place a period in the beginning of the name. So for example if you name your folder "Pictures" put ".Pictures" for the folder name. This will hide the folder. Have fun.

Very fun hahaha !

After that you have to unmount your card and connect it directly on your computer to rename your folder...
You haven't a good behavior Gasaraki-...shame on you !

Windows can see the hidden folder... Just have the "show hidden folders" option enabled on your machine.
Also if you have a file browser on your tablet like ES File Explorer, they can all see hidden folders.
Are you just pulling my leg?
You can also see hidden "dot" folders on the tablet in Root Explorer (you don't have to be rooted). Astro and few other explorers don't show them.

You must know how:
open the gallery
Long press any folder
select the folders you want to hide
open menu (with menu key)
select 'hide selection' (or something like)
done
PS. This only works with internal files and not with files on a sd-card ?!
That did it.

Hello everyone..
So I while managing pictures on my SD card, I noticed something that is making dumping/importing pictures to my PC, a nightmare.
I think I have a solution, but the app (MoveToSdcard), is giving the following message: "SD Card shares the same disk with os"
Looking at some of the file/folder structure, I think I know what's happening, but I don't know how to fix without breaking stuff.
What I'm trying to do is move all apps that will every have pictures associated with them, to the SDCard. This will allow me to export (and worry) only pictures from the SDCard and delete them like I normally would with my iPhone.
Anyone know of a way to resolve this or have a suggestion on how to achieve what I'm trying to do?
Why do I want to dump my pictures? I put them on a NAS, back them up to various cloud services. I also place my none mobile photo work on this NAS an upload them as well.

I'm having a hard time understanding specifically what you are trying to do. But if the end goal is back up pictures to your NAS then I suggest downloading "Sweet Home! Alfa". It will allow you to select which albums to backup and automatically do it for you based on preference (for example, I have mine setup to do it when I'm connected to my home network and plug my phone in to charge".
You can set it to automatically delete photos off you device once backed up too if you want. Managing albums can be done through the stock gallery app or through a file explorer.
Hope this helps.
BTW, /sdcard actually refers to internal storage. So if you are trying to move apps to /sdcard, that it why you are getting the error. You are telling it to move an app from internal storage to internal storage which doesn't make sense to the app
Hi Artimis! Yea. I'm sorry about how I laid out the thread. Not clear at all. Basically, there are pictures everywhere
I use several apps - Instagram, Photoshop, SquareDroid, Afterfocus, Lapse It, Viva Video, etc. Each one of these apps either place the completed edits/export in their own folder, located in the app's directory, respectively.
When I pull out the SDCard and put it into my machine to dump/export them, not all the pictures are there, because some of the pictures are in their respective app exported folders and those are on the Internal SD.
This now forces me to hunt around and hope I've located all the possible directories and pictures.
If Instead relocate the apps to the SD card, the export folders would also be there, making it one less and easy step to ensure that all possible pictures/directories are accounted for.
Make any sense? Sorry about that.
Now the app you recommended takes it to a whole other level! This is awesome! and it detects new photo directories, created anywhere on the phone or SD card! This more or less solves my whole problem! WOW! Thank you!
As for the whole SD thing, I'm confused. Not a big deal though since all pictures and videos (all big in size) taken using XCam end up on the true SDCard. All the other pictures scattered about are not large in size and I'm not concerned about it. It's just a pain to hunt them down and dump/export them.
This app you suggested though is perfect and solves my problem, and then some!
Thanks Artimis!
wouldn't it be easier to just use Dropbox's import feature or even their auto saving of pictures? Of course letting G+ save them is also a more practical solution, I use both, and would be less time consuming
Yes, I use them as well. They work well. The goal is not to move away from any of them either. The goal is to save them locally to my NAS and at the same time, recover the space back on the device/SDCard.
The program that Artimis recommended takes care of all these issues.
I'm good! Thanks!
Same/Similar Problem
Whenever I try to install apps on to my SD card it says "SDcard share the same disk with os" and won't let me transfer apps.

Does your phone actually have an sdcard in it (it would show up as something like /external_SD through the file system). As I mentioned before, /sdcard actually refers to the phones internal storage. It is a symlinked directory that emulates an sdcard but is mapped to /data/media.
So you will get this error with an app trying to move something from /data/app to /sdcard because it is actually trying to move it to /data/media/.. which doesn't do any good.
If you do have an actual external sdcard (/external_SD) then the problem could be due to the write protection changes implemented in kit kat. There are threads on how to fix this if you are rooted.
I do I have an SD card in my tablet and I supposedly already did an SD card fix for Kit Kat but I will look into it thanks.
i have micromax canvas juice 2 .... i inserted 16gb sd card but iam not able to move apps to my sd card ..... please help me
So how to make it understand I have to sent it to ad card and read data from there..
I have several hundred pix on my Fire Phone and can't figure out how to delete them all at once - only one-by-one. Does anyone here know how? I can't find anything elsewhere on the net.
I don't remember FireOS, but did you try long-pressing a picture to be able to select more than one?
Use a file manager such as root explorer, or connect to a pc and do it that way?
Thanks. I did try the long press on a picture. It just pops up a "Share / Delete" choice for that one picture.
Deleting the pix via a PC connection is my last resort, as I'm afraid it might trash some internal phone database and leave me with a problem much worse than what I have now.
It's hard to believe that a modern phone that can hold hundreds of pictures wouldn't have some kind of "batch select" or multi-delete... so I'm hoping there's a smooth way.
If you've got play store use quickpic which allows batch select.
On a quasy-related thought--amazon is really bad at this it seems. I think the unlimited cloud photo storage is very generous but no one took the time to polish it a little. Can't seem to organize my pics so got pics of my kids running side by side with random podcast cover art and other things I don't want saved. It all displays on my fire TV screensaver. My wife thinks I'm an idiot just taking pictures of everything and saving them. But the op is right, you have to delete one by one.
Not necessarily. Like @ratbags said, you can install a file manager app (ES Explorer, Root Explorer, or the like), go to the DCIM folder and delete whatever you want to. Also, having a file manager app could help you when you're trying to not connect your phone to a PC as much as possible.
Thanks to all for the answers. I will probably get a file mgr though I need one only for this task. Silly Amazon to provide no simple way to delete pictures.
On the topic of what to delete: the images are in DCIM as noted, and there are thumbnails. I'll try deleting only the images and see if the phone takes care of the thumbs.
Install a file manager app, like ES file explorer, and turn off automatic uploading of pictures and videos if you do anything unwholsome in your life. Linux tricks work in android based operating systems too. I use ES file explorer and put a .nomedia file in Downloads and there is a Facebook folder under DCIM that you should do the same to. Now when you are out with that co-worker or whore, and get frisky with the camera, they won't automatically show up on your Amazon Fire TV in real time. Move what you don't want uploaded into a folder with a .nomedia file before saving your media to the cloud.
Hi I need a little help if possible, I'm trying to find an app that will let me automove files and folders, I've found an app called "auto-move" that will move my files for me automatically but it doesn't move folders at all. So I need an app that can move folders to another location by the file(folder)name. I found the app called "tasker" and it seems like it might be able to do what I want but not sure as it's a bit of a headache for me to use, so is anyone experienced enough with "tasker" to help me?
Please keep in mind I have looked through a lot of guides but they all involve moving files and not folders.
I basically want to monitor a folder, and if that folder has other folders In it, it will move them to a certain location depending on folder name.
you can use other apps for this purpose, sync type apps like Synchronize Ultimate can sync folders and files to local and cloud network, create sync profiles but also has option to "delete from source after sync" and has plugin for tasker. So you may want to check those kind of apps.
I also found tasker difficult to handle and gave Automate a try, no complaints.

Thank you for the quick reply, yeah I figured it out now, I scrapped using tasker. I'm using auto-move to move the files to destination folder and using redirect pro to move files out of folders to the parent directory so auto-move can do its thing. I'm gonna check your suggestion as I'd prefer one app to do the job and by the sounds of it your will do the job
