I'm getting a new 16gb micro SD card and after I set that up I want to flash the Warm Z twopointtwo rom. Within Rom Manager it says my current and latest clockworkMod is 3.0.0.8. I want to try this Rom because it has the new sense 2.0. In the Warm Z twopointtwo Rom post it has these options for these downloads:
Downloads:
Nightlies Testing (Newest)
DOWNLOAD RLS1 (Clockworkmod 2)
[MD5Sum: 99a461227c47e6a06d89dad880883ffa]
DOWNLOAD RLS1 (Clockworkmod 3.0.7 and up)
[MD5Sum: 5ca34912d800a5120349a09cdf5a10b0]
So I assume I download DOWNLOAD RLS1 (Clockworkmod 2)?
Also, I understand these instructions to flash the rom, but the only other rom I tried was CyanogenMod 7 and I had to load google apps. I guess maybe that was just for that rom and I don't have to do that for every rom?
Installation Instructions:
Download Rom
Reboot into Recovery.
Perform Nandroid backup
Minimally wipe dalvik and cache. For optimal experience, perform full wipe (data/dalvik/cache).
Flash rom
Reboot
Enjoy
This says to flash just like flashing a rom, but when you flash a rom you do a full wipe. Do I do a wipe with any of these?
Other Optional Downloads:
(Flash these just like how you flash roms)
Transparent Notification Bar - DOWNLOAD
Data Governer Removal RLS1 - DOWNLOAD
Hulu App - DOWNLOAD (DO NOT update flash from market as it will overwrite mod to support Hulu)
Older HTCMusic w/ EMMC Support - DOWNLOAD

I'm sure after I flash a few Roms I won't be so nervous about bricking my phone.

RLS1 is the most stable, but nightlies come with newer features currently in development but occasionally will have more bugs. It's all preference.

Only certain ROMs require you to flash Gapps separately. They're baked into Warm Z TwoPointTwo

No. If you wipe before you flash any of those, you're going to wipe the ROM. You flash those after you flash the ROM.
As always, just do a Nandroid backup beforehand and everything will be fine. Flashing ROMs really isn't as risky as it's made out to be. Anyone that can read can do it.
I think for my first rom, I'll first try the stable rom,
Just for clarification, if on Rom Manager my clockworksMod says 3.0.0.8 which flash do I use?
DOWNLOAD RLS1 (Clockworkmod 2)

Second one, since you're on clockworkmod 3.0.0.7+
Sent from my Droid Incredible running CM7 RC2.
Thanks I was hoping "DOWNLOAD RLS1 (Clockworkmod 3.0.7 and up)" was the right one. Must be different that the typical decimal system cuz in the decimal system 3.0.0.8 is not quite up to 3.0.1.
The program ROM Manager is up to version 3.0.1.3.
The latest ClockworkMod Recovery version is 3.0.0.8.
You need to use the one that says:
"DOWNLOAD RLS1 (Clockworkmod 3.0.7 and up)
[MD5Sum: 5ca34912d800a5120349a09cdf5a10b0]"
Please read through the entire Warm Z twopointtwo thread.
I know it's long, but if you're really interested in learning about modifying your phone, then it's well worth it.
Much love my friend
I have personally used warmz. I liked it a lot because it was nice and functional. You will download the one for 3.0.7+. If you download the one for CWM2 it may give you an error during the flash stating something about edify and amend scripting. Also do the wipe then flash the Rom. It was a very easy process. The first boot does take a little longer so keep that in mind.
Have fun!
Thanks for all the help. I have started reading thru the Warm Z thread and I'll drill thru it till the end. I really do want to understand all this and help other newbies.

I'm with you, I'm a NooB at this stuff but it's very exciting!
I'm still confused exactly what I need to "wipe" in ClockworkMod before installing?
I know how to do the Delvic cache wipe but I'm afraid to wipe anything else and erase my SD card, etc.. sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm Sceered ! LOL
Wipe Cache and Wipe Data/Cache. You should copy your sdcard to your computer or something, cant take too long.

Cool, thanks !
All I can tell you is warm z twopointtwo is the best rom I have used so far. haven't really verified battery drain yet, but it's beautiful. Finally an update to Sense on my phone!
I personally love this ROM. I would recommend the nightly downloads though. I used the RLS1 version for a while because the word "nightly" honestly scared me away from that one. I decided to take the plunge and go for a nightly. I'm glad I did. I flashed the 3/31 nightly, and my phone flies. Havent had an issue so far. Good luck on your new adventures into Sense 2.0
Edit: wanted to also say my battery easily gets through a whole day of standard, facebook, snes, calls, texing use

I can't find the answer and have searched to see which ROMs are supported for updates in ROM Manager. I have the following ...
HTC Evo
ROM Mgr v3.0.0.2
ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1
Android Version 2.2
Kernal ver - 2.6.32.17-gee557fd
htc-kernal and18-2 #15
Build 3.70.651.1 CL294884 release keys
I just rooted my phone about 4 days ago and really like being rooted. I'm using the Sprint Lovers ROM currently only because I had a problem flashing and found the solution in that thread. I'm afraid of changing to another ROM because I don't know which ROM is stable. Not sure what other ROMs are currently avaiable that are stable with 3.7. Is there a newer version of ClockWork Mod?
I'll answer the last question first - yes. The easy way to keep CWM up to date is to use ROM Manager (which updates fairly often because of new roms/updates). That said, I prefer RA recovery (which you can flash through ROM manager). I also use Calkulin's FORMAT_ALL zip file which wipes data, cache and dalvik cache all in one go (then for good measure I rewipe the caches).
The major sense ROMs are stable and very well supported: Fresh, Myn, Calkulin's Evio 2 come to mind immediately but there are others. If you browse the development forum, you'll start to see the same dev names over and over again: Calkulin, Netarchy, ricsim78, joeykrim, XxXVirusXxX, xHausx. Chances are if they developed a Sense ROM, it's pretty stable and certainly well-supported.
Whether or not the ROM is based on 3.70 is usually listed in the title.
Also be aware there are AOSP ROMs - CM6 and MIUI are the two major ones I can know - they are not Sense ROMs, so the latest version (3.70) is irrelevant. There are probably others. The new Gingergread ROMs are AOSP (senseless) but they are very experimental and unstable.
Happy Hunting!
I've been using Myn's Warm rom. Very stable and fast. Just download the file, put on sd and flash through recovery. The rom is awesome. Also you can flash Calkulin's kernel. I use the one that says "also known as 131". It gives great battery life and can be overclocked.

Good luck! Hit me up if you have questions. Also Amon RA is supposed to be the best. Go into rom manager, if you dont have it get it. Flash clockwork then when its done, scroll all the way down to flash alternate recovery. It allows you to partition the sd card much easier(especially if you want to install darktremors a2sd). Always backup sd to computer before partitioning, it wipes the card. If you need email me [email protected]

Swyped From Eva Running Myn's RLS4.95 On The Now Network!
I tried calkulins 1.7.6 and manilla carbon this morning with the same result... Constant reboot before the splash screen, so I restored. I also tried changing to Ra recovery and same result.

I have looked across this forum and two other forums and have not found an answer which will satisfy me.
I have successfully rooted and flashed different ROMs many times, so the whole process is not anything I don't understand.
I can successfully flash any of the Cyanogens, Incredibly Re-engineered, Redemption, and SkyRaider ROMs.
I CAN NOT flash but ONE ROM with 'Z' in the title and that is Incredibly Re-engineered Z. Every other ROM such as Super Z, Warm Z 2.2, IncDoes, Uber Z
My DInc will just sit at the HTC Incredible white screen when I reboot after a successful load via clockworkmod.
I have left it sitting for 30 minutes plus while sitting at work. Nothing. Only choice I have is to restore from backup to a working ROM.
Any suggestions?
The ROM's you quoted are mostly using ClockWorkMod Recovery version 3 for the install. If you are on CWM version 2 the result you are getting is kind of expected. The v3 scripts are not compatible with v2 but v2 does not know any better so tries to install it.
Go into ROM Manager and see what recovery you are on and use RM to install CWM v 3.0.0.7
I would then try installing the ROM with RM selecting the wipe option
SIDE NOTE: If you are on CWM v3 and you try to install a v2 based ROM CWM will tell you that it is outdated
That is what I saw on other sites, but I have the latest version of clockworkmod v3.0.0.8 and have flashed the ROMs successfully with it, but they just wont go past the HTC Incredible white screen. The ones that gave me script errors, I have flashed down to clockworkmod v2.5.1.7 or whichever i seen in the OP of that ROM
I just do not understand it. =( ... I dont wanna be limited
Sounds like it could be related to you not having a Samsung Fascinate. I'd try to get a Samsung Fascinate and then you might have better luck.
Get back to work.

You probably did not catch my recommendation to use 3.0.0.7. 3.0.0.8 has known problems with not clearing everything.
In ROM Manager at the bottom install CWM 3.0.0.7 and try flashing the ROM from the SD Card with ROM Manager and select the wipe option.

I might have to try this too as I'm having troubles installing roms and sticking in boot loop ..
If I change to CWM 3.0.0.7 from my current 3.0.0.8, will my previous backups on 3.0.0.8 still be useable through 3.0.0.7?
Thanks!

Yes your backups will work
I will give that a try. I currently have only two flashable files for clockworkmod ... v3.0.0.8 and v2.5.1.2
I'll try and find the previous versions of clockworkmod, nandroid backup my working ROM, wipe data/factory reset, cache and dalvik and try this one more again.

Hi, so I'm super green but itching to load custom kernel and rom... So my Evo is rooted and have seen some pretty sweet roms, lol, kinda scared to flash and not sure what roms go with what kernals, do I even need a new kernal? What I really want is a kernal I can overclock to 1198mhz, and a rom build based on honeycomb and or gingerbread that is 100% stable or as close as I can get... Help? Lol...

hahah exited aren't you... welcome to the root world!
you asked for hc/gb. google hasnt released hc source code yet, probably not until ice cream, so there is none of that. you can however download cyanogen(mod) 7, which is almost totally stable.
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=supersonic
there's the mirror link. download either rls4 or nightly 33. nightly 33 is a bit funky bcuz cyanogen is pulling an april fools prank saying he sold cm to teh duck revolution, and the rom is now called 'teh duck uber distro'. so maybe rls4 or just wait for the next nightly.
everything works. 4g (with one bug that there is an annoying fix for), hdmi (download hdmwin from the market) gps (with a fix) and everything else is perfect. it is still in beta/nightly stages, but should be done soon. it is my daily driver, as well as many other peoples. this rom is crazzzy popular. try it for sure.
start with stock kernel, but i'd try both savaged-zen and tiamat kernels on it. they will both give you much better battery. tiamat tends to give slightly better performance/quickness but savaged-zen (on custom SAVAGEZEN governer) gives fantastic battery. try them both!!!
again, welcome to the community. hope this helps.
Where do I get the kernals? And what process do I use? I have clockwork premium... I just don't wanna miss a step a jack myself
Also, is it gonna wipe my phone, do I need to wipe it? No issues with that though as I do it all the time... And thank you so much for the feedback BTW, still a little confused...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
ok, first of all, clockworkmod isn't the recovery you want to be using. download amon-ra's recovery here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026 make sure you get the pc36img.zip. put the pc36img.zip on the root of your sdcard (that means not in any folders) MAKING SURE IT IS NAMED EXACTLY PC36IMG.ZIP. aka just dont rename it. then power off your phone, and once it is off, hold power and volume down. you will see a white screen with scateboarding droids at the bottom. this is your BOOTLOADER SCREEN also known as hboot, and you see it quite often. so hboot will scan your sdcard, and find the pc36img.zip. hit volume up to accept the 'update'. then once it is done, volume up again to reboot.
you can download kernels from the evo android development subforum right here at the xda.
so first flash your rom. you can either boot up into it, or just flash the kernel right away. flash the kernel just like you would a rom, but without wiping.
enjoy.
any other questions, ask away.

100% agree. Amon Ra imo is the much more stable & user friendly recovery
Alright, so, can I do all this just from my phone? Is a pc recommended? Will my stock kernal overclock? Never flashed a rom before, I'm an electronic/computer tech so I pick up shniz pretty quick but still don't wanna b---- this sucker...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
you can do it all from your phone if you want. i perfer downloading on my pc and transferring from there in case i want to modify anything, but you can always just dload on phone. make sure the pc36img.zip isnt in download folder or anything if you do. it needs to be on the root. your stock kernel can't overclock sadly. if you have never flashed a rom before, then cm7 will be crazy different than stock rom. most custom rom's are based off the stock htc software, just modded. cm7 is aosp, which means it is stock GOOGLE software. htc spends quite a few months modifying htc sense into google software, so the speed and memory increase is very noticable. just wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache when switching roms. you might want to backup your apps and their data using titanium backup. just dont backup system data, that can cause problems. then flash the rom after wiping, flash any kernel or addons you want (dont forget to flash gapps if it is an aosp rom, bcuz if you dont u wont have the market or anything) and reboot. for any other mods you install after that on the same rom, just wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash away. wiping data between roms is always reccomended. if you want to stick with the cm7 nightlys, then all you need to wipe is cache and dalvik. there is never much of a problem with just flashing one over the other without a data wipe.
and forgot to mention, you cant control amon-ra recovery with rom manager. but then again, rom manager is just a touch screen version of recovery. you get used to the volume/power keys pretty quickly.
ok, im freaking out now, my phone is locked in the cm little surfer droid with the arrow circling around been constantly running for about 45 mins, im fuct, really fuct without my phone!!! its my only internet too!!! PLEASE HELP!!!
Did you do a factory wipe, Clear the cache & wipe Dalvik?
Sounds like it just wasn't a good install. Do the above in recovery & reinstall your ROM
ya did you wipe? doesnt sound like it. make sure data, cache, and dalvik cache are all wiped successfully. also make sure you are using amon-ra recovery. cwm can sometimes give you problems.
am currently on SRF 1.1 and want to get to 1.2
i read that it is compatible with CWM 3.0 but it also says that 3.1 is required....
do i need to do anything to download a neww/diff kernel? i believe i only downloaded one zip file when i went to 1.1, from stock froyo, and everything was included...
my phone/sd card is also riddled with junk so sorta like a pc, i would like to just nuke everything every once in a while and load the o/s and my apks from scratch ;-)
does this order make sense:
1- wipe/format phone storage
2- wipe/format my sd card
3- install cwm 3.1
4- flash to stock froyo
5- odin the recommended SRF 1.2 modem
6- flash the rom (believe only Standard currently exists but TW4 addon would sorta make it like Full?
7- install my apks
thanks!
ps do i need to install a kernel somewhere in between the above steps?

All you have to do is upgrade your 3.0.0.6 clockwork to 3.0.2.5 found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13693020
Just flash the zip through clockwork and reboot.
Then boot back into clockwork and flash the 3.1.0.1 upgrade found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115999
Then reboot.
Then go back into clockwork and just flash 1.2 without wiping! If you have problems with 1.2, then wipe everything 3X each (data, cache, and dalvik cache) and flash.
thanks for the reply....
so, i will update CWM and flash the 2.1 rom....
few more questions pls...
what is it with the Syndicate instructions regarding flashing the modem first....i take it that is if i wasn't on 1.1 already?
also, why does it specifically say that there is no kernel.... do i need to install a different one?
finally, if i do want to wipe out the phone and sd....should i do the cwm/rom install before or after that?

You just need to be on an EC05 or newer modem.
If you're coming from SRF 1.1.1 then you probably already flashed Twilight 1.1.1. What does your build status say? If this says Twilight Hajime-whatever, then you're good, but I personally like reflashing my kernel since my phone likes it.
Why wipe your sd? You can just do 3x factory wipe, 3x data cache wipe, 3x dalvik cache wipe. If you truly wanted to Odin back to stock first, reroot, upgrade to cwm 3.1.0.1 then flash kernel then flash rom.
i never went to syndicate 1.1.1 because there wasn't a full version available when i saw it last, only standard...
looking now, i have SRF 1.1.0 / Twilight Zone 1.1.0
so after i flash v1.2 of the rom, i should download and install Twilight Zone kernel again?
not nec to wipe out the card....just thought i'd give it a 'cleaning' and reinstall the apks i needed again.....

As far as the first part, flash the 1.1.1 kernel from the 1.1.0 thread. It's attached to an old version of cwm so afterward you want to immediately flash cwm purple. You'll want the new kernel in place when the Rom flashes.
Ok, I don't know what I did wrong here. I was running a stock EC05 rom that was rooted. I upgraded my CWM 2.5 to CWM 3.1.0.1, and then flashed the 1.2 rom from CWM. It rebooted, the buttons on the bottom lit up, and the screen stays blank. So, I went back into CWM and cleared all data/caches 3x, then reflashed... still nothing. I cannot even restore my NAND backup. I can only boot to CWM3 :/ Now what???

*ugh* ok, i downloaded and updated CWM both times like you suggested to get me 3.1
i downloaded the 1.2 and rebooted into CWM and selected the zip....it looked like it worked but now i'm getting FC errors and my sd card is lagging when i try to access it (from Adao, Astro or even running apps from it)
did the 3x wipe....but i got less FC errors but now i get 'framework' something something errors...
did i hose myself? *bleh*
i tried a reflash again of 1.2 and still hitting FC errors.....
i'm looking for a link to odin back to flash froyo....then following the directions again to flash the twilight kernel and install the 1.2 again...
make sense?
probably my mistake....but now it worked.... after a couple of reboots, i started from scratch...what i did coming from syndicate 1.1.0/twilight 1.1.0:
1) updated to the two new versions of cwm
2) wiped everything 3x
3) flashed twilight kernel 1.1.1 from cwm
4) flashed syndicate rom 1.2
pretty easy, thanks for the help...running super smooth
Hello,
I think the subject says it all. I currently have android 2.2 (can't even remember what ROM I flashed) after rooting using Autoroot 2.4. Now I'd like to update my ROM to cyanogen 7. How do I go about doing this?
It appears that if I go to power down and choose reset -> recovery that Android System Recovery loads w/ Build "RA-supersonic-v2.3 - HAUS MOD rev.A" -- I presume that this is the key to flashing cyanogen 7?
What I think I do is:
Put cyanogen 7 image (zip file) in root folder of SD card
Boot into recovery mode
Make backup (NANdroid)
Select Wipe, then Wipe data/factory reset
Select Flash zip from sdcard.
Select the CyanogenMod update.zip.
Reboot
and I'm done???
But I would appreciate some more or less brick proof direction.
Thanks!
Personally, I would suggest Deck's or SalvageMod instead of CM7. Both are optimized and fly!
Well you would need whichever CM7 you want to flash (stable, nightly, etc). Also, you will need GAPPS. Probably want a custom kernel too, I suggest Tiamat 4.1.0 SBC.
Download and put on SD card. Boot into recovery.
Wipe cache and dalvik. Then nandroid, select everything you want. I typically keep on backup on my card.
Wipe everything except for SD card twice. Navigate to Flash Zips. Flash the ROM, then GAPPS, then mount data in "Mounts" then flash Tiamat kernel. Reboot. Let it sit, then reboot. Then do the setup

Thanks for the help. I installed cyanogenmod 7 and it seems to be working. I'm now restoring my backups. I don't really like the default skin and much preferred my old rom. I wonder if just changing the theme will help (I think I like the more factory setup... is that called sense?)
What is the advantage of installing tiamat kernel?
Thanks for the help!
The default skin is just a default. Take a look at my setup, picture in my signature). It doesn't look anything like the default setup for Cyanogen.

Tiamat kernel has different governors, has HAVS, and SBC. There is a sticky at the top of Q&A discussing kernels, it is really helpful.
Are you talking about the theme or launcher? You can always install another launcher from the Market. I have grown fond of Launcher 7. Themes, there are many options. Check Evo Themes and Apps section. You can also download themes to use in Theme Manager from the Market too.
OR, have you heard of UOT Kitchen? Google it, watch a tutorial. You can make your own flashable theme!
And yes, HTC's software is Sense. I suggest MikG, it has 4G and everything, much more functionality than stock software. It is Sense to

Thanks for all the info!
I'm trying to install the theme "HTC.Elegance-CM7-Theme v4.5.1"
To do so I've gone into the recovery menu
then I wipe cache and dalvik cache
then I load the HTC elegance theme zip file like I did to flash the cm7 mod and
reboot
however, it keeps booting into the default theme. What could I be doing wrong here?
Also, is there a graphical app that will allow quickly changing themes w/o multiple reboots?
Thanks!
CM7 seems quite slow. I may bail on this one and try something else. My last rom was sprintlovers and believe it or not I liked it a lot. Would MikG provide a similar experience or is something else similar recommended?
Thanks!

I guess you'd get a similar experience, its sense based, with all his extras. So if you lik sense, go ahead and try it.
Thanks again for all the tips. I ended up restoring my phone w/ NAND and then installing latest sprintlovers to get me up to 2.3. That's all I really need at this point, hopefully it does everything I need it to do.

Flashing the theme just loads it into your phone. Once you've flashed it you need to go into your app drawer and select the app called "Theme Chooser." When that opens you can scroll through the various themes loaded onto your phone. Select the one you just flash and hit "Apply." Bam! You're all themed up!
