Hacking incredible - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend allowed someone to hack his phone yesterday using unrevoked. I want to help him, however I need help. The hboot is the only screen that comes up when I press volume down with the power. When I choose reboot all I get is the stock htc incredible screen. When I choose recovery the screen turns black with white bars down the side then it stays in that state. Is there any hope for him? If I use sdk tools could someone help me with the commands necessary?

Sounds like the recovery is for a different type screen. Did you use the latest unrEVOked version? It accommodates both type screens.

Black with white bars in indicative of using the AMOLED version on a SLCD screen. There is hope, you need to search for SLCD recovery.

Thank you. I'm back at stock. Now to root.

The older versions of unrevoked required a custom recovery for SLCD, the newest one does not (and your white bars are the symptom of just that). Try making sure you have the newest Unrevoked and try again.

[Q] Still having recovery issues. Please Help

So I have used the BAmod recovery, clockwork, amon_ra installed using the unrevoked method, and the sd card method...I always get the same results. I can get into the recovery and move up and down to make selections on the initial screen, but once I make a selection I just get a completely black screen. I'm not sure what is happening...any suggestions?
You make selections with the track pad, the power button goes back and at the root menu turns the screen off.

[Q] Help... Central button not working

Hi,
So I've just rooted my Desire, installed clockwork recovery etc, but my central button doesn't work so I can't select any option... What can I do to fix this problem?
I've tried ButtonRemapper, but you need full root for that :/
the trackball doesnt work? In recovery or android or both? Did it work before?
Thanks for the details.
It's just broken... It isn't software-related, but I need it to select the option in the clockwork recovery, whereas in the original recovery menu, you had to press the power button to select the options...
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

It'd help if you shared what recovery you're using. Most recoveries just screen-off when you press power.
Sorry mate, clockworkmod 2.5.0.7

really? I use that and that's all it does.. hmm weird
Really? It's strange though, at first when I press it I get a black screen. Then after a while a message appears at the bottom that says back menu button enabled, after that I can use either the power button or optical track pad to make a selection.

Are you sure? It would really help if it works... I'm still stuck since yesterday :/ Have been looking for a recovery that uses the power button to select an option.
EDIT: Found how it works! I just spammed the volume button a couple of times, and I get the same message! thank you so much, I can now use my power button to select the options
Excellent! I just go nuts on the buttons to get it to work too lol.. Glad to hear you got it figured out

[Q] Rooting without volume buttons

Is there any way to root HTC Desire HD with Advanced ACE Hack Kit without using volume buttons?
My volume up button is not working, and I need it to downgrade from 2.3.5, it's required in final step for confirmation, but i can't do that..
The only way is if you use sonething like clockworkmod or rzr recovery

Volume Rocker Lock/Unlock

Don't flame me by this is kind of urgent.
A friend of mine has a Desire HD but the power button is broken. I know if you root in cyanogenmod there are options for volume rocker wake but what about to lock? Are there any apps in the market that can do that?
Also if I do root her phone, how would I do it without a power button (to use hboot, recovery will be 4EXT)
Thanks in advance!

Well I'm not sure how you would configure a lock or wake function...or any rom that does so...but to boot into recovery just boot up the device, go to the 4ext app and use its function to boot into recovery.

What about getting the power button fixed, as I'm not sure on the prices for that but it is an option.

You can use adb to boot to different areas but the power button not working could become a serious issue. If phone freezes or needs a battery pull how are you going to turn it on? Is it stuck down so that it at least turns on when powered off? Also you won't be able to make selections in hboot. I would look into getting that fixed before trying to root or anything. As for the volume wake there are several roms with that feature. Cyanogen I know for sure and blackout. I'm not sure if there is an android app that does it cause I've never looked.

U can try AUTO SCREEN ON from the market it uses sensors to wake up the phone n as far as waking up with volume key i think tht needs to be implemented in the rom itself
