Hardware keyboard lags except in DroidWords...? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using the latest Syndicate and I know they're working on adding in the fix for keyboard lag but I just wanted to point something out.
I was playing DroidWords and chatting with one of my random opponents about how I was being chased, naked, by a pink unicorn named Gary the other day.
While I was doing this I noticed that my keyboard was responding perfectly in the DroidWords chat. Smooth as silk, like my freshly shaved coinpurse!
How is this possible? Anyone use DroidWords? How could I force that smooth functionality in to my normal keyboard usage?

Landscape Performance

Has anyone noticed that the phone runs slower in landscape mode. I'm not taking about rotation which works fine with a custom ROM, but it seems like the phone is twice as slow when rendering and input lag.
Open WhatsApp or maps(really any app) and look at the frame rate and how laggy the input is when scrolling. Then go to landscape mode and and do the same thing; it's way slower. I've noticed with every version and ROM that I've installed. I've searched around and found nothing about this so I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. It seems like an ICS issue that google will need to fix because there should be no different between the two modes.
I think this is the same problem with the keyboard being a little slower in landscape.
I have noticed a small hinderance of performance in landscape mode, but not across the board nor in every app. Google Music works perfectly for me in landscape mode. I am running GummyNex with Imo's kernel so maybe it got tuned differently.
I have noticed this in the Nova launcher too. Really annoying.
Has there been any progress on it?
Hi,
It's a bit old,but maybe an advice...:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546552
There are also other threads about that.
Kernel and other factors can help...

Has anyone gotten Instagram to run on ICS?

App launches and runs smooth. However, when I go to take a picture, it freezes and sometimes reboots. Even importing a photo from gallery causes it to hang. I have auto-rotate and motion control set to off, and I have been using the Tasker + Ultimate Rotation Control workaround. Disabling the Tasker workaround didn't help. Since ICS isn't officially out for our phones, I guess the problem won't be officially fixed until T-989 gets its own kernel.
But if you have found a workaround to enabling the Instagram camera/import from gallery, please share!
I am having the same issue, oh well
It's a driver issue the developers are working on it
Samsung galaxy s2 almost ics lol
There was a update to instagram this morning, but im currently on stock GB rom right now. Has the new update fixed the camera issue on ICS roms?
What is soo great about Instagram? I d/l it but cant really see the value in in. Can some one please tell me the attraction?

Issues with lag?

So I've had my S3 for a couple of months now, and I was just wondering about the performance. I thought the S3 was supposed to be extremely powerful, yet it lags on high end games such as NOVA or Modern Combat. Also when texting, the keyboard will sometimes lag. Does this happen for anyone else, and is there a solution to fix it, such as trying a different ROM or something? I also want to keep a decent battery life.
Set all animations to 0.5x in developers options, force 2d gpu rendering check it. Might help. I've played nova and it didn't lag on me.

Tab S 10.5 YouTube Video Stuttering

Hi guys, I recently bought a galaxy tab s 10.5 and I'm having issues with video playback in the native YouTube app. Basically every 5-10 seconds, I would get a micro stutter, as if the video is slightly jittery. It's definetely not buffering as the video has loaded well ahead already too.
I am using the samsung stock OS so 4.4.2 and I have installed all the latest official updates for both the OS and the Youtube app.
I have also tried a factory reset of the machine, clearing the cache and updates for the Youtube app and reinstalling. I've also tried forced GPU rendering and turning off hardware overlays in developer mode
Does this indicate there's an issue with my hardware ? It does not happen when i stream videos from my PC over wifi or any locally downloaded videos. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hmmm, never had this problem with mine when it was on stock. I usually had this problem when I underclocked my cpus and all that or when I am using to many appps.
The only thing I can suggest is use another app (viral popup https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Mata.YTplayer ) or take it back to be safe.

Thanks, yep the youtube videos would stutter even when i freshly restarted the tablet so nothing else really is running in the background. I have tried the viral popup app except it seems to play at a really low quality setting, ,ie 1080p is not available ?
Is there anything I can test to see if its a possible hardware issue ? I ran the Antutu benchmark and got 37k which seems in line for what's expect from this tablet. Does this help rule anything out ? Thanks.
Check processes, there's probably something in the background.

I dont think so. When you play games does it lag too? Ex real racing 3 etc? Because if it cant play youtube without the micro lag, that may affect other apps. I dont get any lag while I was on stock.
If any other apps lag while playing (not on loading screens) then it may be an issue. I never had any micro lag on mine so it may vary on how you see it. Of course we have custom roms that are way smoother (CM12) but I am unsure if your issue is hardware related or the way you see it. Hope this helps!
I got youtube stuttering too for months on my TabS ST800, I tried every tricks in dev options, nothing ever changed .
But one day i tried the CARDBOARD view in the YouTube app options and then return to normal 2D view.... motion became butter smooth up to 1440p60, for any video! If closing youtube app and restarting it, it is stuttering again, until opening again the cardboard view.
Here is a test video I used to validate stutter-free playback :

Good luck.

You, sir, are awesome!!! I had this problem for the last couple of months on my Tab Pro 10.1, tried everything to eliminate it. Going back to Stock or GraveD rom was slightly better but not really smooth either. I was beginning to lose my sanity switching back and forth between CM11, CM12.1 and stock-rom, trying different developer-options but was not completely satisfied in the end. This cardboard-step is a temporary fix i can definitely live with. But I'm surprised that not many people seem to be effected by this stuttering or they simply don't mind at all. Hope that google is going to fix this shortcoming in the near future but meanwhile...Thanks a ton mister :good:!

I was so happy too I spent a night watching again many videos I love ! I'm glad I could share that little joy !
To answer your question, it is a shame that people are suffering from the belief that "online" videos on computer, tablets or phone *must* somewhat stutter. Well ... even trans-galactic communications in Star Wars/Trek and other sci-fi movies are depicted with stutter and even analog (!) video sync and lines issues (in 2150!!). Stutter and other digital disorders have been imprinted in the modern culture because not much effort was given to understand (and implement) that we human are analog creatures requiring a natural constant flow of sound and light, not a "best effort" variable low frame sample rate due to "unavoidable" system interrupts between storage, cpu, gpu and screen. Remarkably, Apple hardware/software was always close to perfection due to their close collaboration with the computer graphics industry for tv and movies..
It is indeed so much enjoyable when colors, contrast, motion of a clean picture hit the brain which then do not have to interpolate, filter dynamically and overcome an unpleasant stressfull and therefore tiring "motion picture"
So far only Sony with its X1 graphical processor in TVs is IMO able to achieve a minimum of digital artefacts while interpolating and displaying moving pictures. HD was a attempt to increase resolution (but we lost many qualities that the oldest of us enjoyed with CRT tubes). UHD must bring "better pixels" back with constant higher frame rate, higher pixel resolution and higher color resolution and dynamic range.
I hope to say bye bye soon to "flicks" = flickering judderish stuttering color-ish moving pictures.

Nexus 5X Lag

Using snapchat and even just the regular camera, I am experiencing a lot of lag when the camera is first loading up.
snapchat is really slow.
instagram is slow as well/
anyone else seeing the same problem?
The camera and instagram apps don't lag for me. But Snapchat definitely does -- it's pretty bad. But that is absolutely the only app that I have experience any kind of lag with.
Snapchat lags pretty bad and gsm battery stats. IG is not laggy at all for me
I'm also experiencing lag after launching regular camera app. It takes a few seconds for the app to settle down and be able to focus/take pictures.
I'm also experiencing lag if you take multiple HDR+ photos in a roll....
I hope Google could optimize the app more.
The Google Play Newsstand app gets very laggy for me if I view a few feeds in a row.
I get most of my lag in Chrome when viewing a page with lots of images. Sometimes the phone lags when I unlock it and tries to switch apps. Memory leak issue like Lollipop?
Try signing up for snapchat beta, when I first got my 5X the lag in snapchat was unbearable, each of the 3 snapchat updates since first using the 5X have greatly improved the usability of the app. Still lags on camera startup and while taking pictures, but the rest of the app has gotten a lot better of the past few days.
Make sure you are running the latest software build, MDB08I. I don't use Snapchat but it definitely helped smooth out the camera app

Snapchat is an incompatibility with marshmallow. I had it with my nexus 6 as well
I have not noticed egregious lags, but frame drops are aplenty. Google's animation team did a wonderful job to hide the most irritating aspects of animations, but anyone who is semi-sensitive to dropped frames can see frames dropping left and right.
Stock camera definitely lags more often than not for me. I do have Camera FV-5 so I might give that a try more and see if it's more reliable.

Snapchat lag is horrible, basically can't use it
I'll have to try out Snapchat Beta and see if it fixes it otherwise, this really blows.
If you use Casper instead of the official Snapchat app, you'll see significantly less lag. I still get some bad freezes even with SC uninstalled, though
I've noticed some lag here and there, but nothing worse than I was seeing on my Nexus 5 previously. I'd like to see if disabling the encryption has any positive impact on these kinds of behaviors. Presently I don't have a reliable way to make the N5X start lagging but if anyone else does, maybe we can begin working around it.

I didn't know about Casper, thanks!!!
I didn't noticed any lag on mine..
The Lag is real
This phone acts so slow compared to the rooted and flashed Nexus 5 I had, its laggy between switching apps, browsing, FB and even when simply going to the home screen from whatever I was doing. I've tried downgrading the animation scales in Dev Settings and still. Not sure ifi will need to return phone or root and flash.....
Been seeing quite snappy performance all around, quite similar to my old z2. The camera definitely has a little stutter as it is first opened though. I'd like to blame some of the stutters and weirdness I am currently experiencing to the state of apps on marshmallow. By weirdness, I mainly just get some bizarre behavior from the hangouts app.
Performance is quick and snappy just like my N5.
Mine is laggy like a dog in the stock camera app while loading/changing from portrait to landscape/taking the photo.
I've had years old androids run faster than that. I hope there is a fix soon.
