How do i extract a boot anim from a rom ??? (i want to flash it on another phone)..
I use the rom in my sig.
You can either, download the rom from XDA and just pull it from there or you can get it from your device. Either way is the same. It is located in /system/customize/resource and called bootanimation.zip.
Ah tnx that's all i needed

i have successful manage to change boot animation & crt for kph 2.3.4 stock&dodex.
1. to change crt lock screen i used this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140461
*u can use root explorer to add # and save the file.
*dont forget to enable in settings>display>animation>allow all/some animations
to change bootanimation i did those steps :
1. download bootanimation from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538
change the name to bootanimation.zip
2.copy the file bootanimation.zip with root explorer to
/system/media/
3.change the files in /system/media/ that ends with *qmg to *.qmg.bak
4.again copy bootanimation.zip to
/data/local/
*delete the old file from there.
5. copy samsungani from download link and paste it in
/system/bin
http://98abdc58.yyv.co
*overwrite the old file.
6. change the name of the file bootanimation in /system/bin
to bootanimation.bak
if u have samsungloop file u can change his name to samsungloop*.bak
7. reboot your phone.
that all.

i will love to hear some feedback.
Okay i followed your tutorial made all steps all working good but still no crt lock animation. Animations are in settings on full animation.
this is not my guide i just follow another guide for CRT and it worked for me.
r u using KPE ?
did u restart your phone ?
what about bootanimation?
No i have 2.3.4 KPH deodexed and rooted with CWM.
I have after the steps the new bootanimation all is working good but there is no crt lock animation.
I don´t know the hell why on my fuc*** phone that god damn crt lock animation is not working.
Dunno what else i can do i tried so much but still no animation.
OK sorry im usin KPH to my mistake....
did u installed any theme ?
r u using stock theme ?
No theme installed i use the stock theme and i have go luncher installed.
But i use the stock theme.
did u tried to remove go launcher ?
all of my rom is stock, no lancer only TW...
i didnt understand if bootanimation worked for you..
go launcher isn´t running but i try to uninstall it and then check what happen then hope maybe that is the clue.
nope no crt lock animation i uninstalled the go launcher but still no result i think my phone has a spell or something that the crt is not working lol.
Witch way you made with stock 2.3.4 KPH to get the crt animation are you rooted are you deodexed have you CWM installed? Please tell me.
1. flash with odin
2. dodex&root
3. CWM gama
4.flashed coolya kernel
5. did the guide as i published.
There you go why it is working for you because you have not the stock kernel you have the coolya kernel that is why it is working for you hehehehehe.
so why boot animation worked for you ?
i dont think that the kernel is the problem.
i ll try tomorrow with stock kernel and i will update.
Yes the Bootanimation has worked but the crt lock has not worked.
Try it with the stock kernel i am really interessed if it works with stock kernel all stock only rooted deodexed and CWM installed.
I bet it is not working dunno why but i think it is like me not working.
Thanks, works great

It is strange, maybe you make a mistake somewhere. I have stock rom and stock kernel too.
On the BVJKP2 FW only the boot animation worked, the crt lock animation didn't worked.
And I have something to share, if you want the original android boot animation, just delete the bootanimation.zip from data/local and system/media or just rename with the .bak at the end AFTER doing the modification of the first post. Also, if you want to remove that Samsung animation when shutting down the phone, just rename to shutdown.qmg.bak the file from system/media/video/shutdown.
After that you will get the original Android boot animation and the Shutting down message when you turn off your phone.
Thanks

I'm running 2.3.4 stock rom with modified kernel by HellCatDroid. Phone is also rooted. The rom allows custom boot animations but I haven't been able to get it to work. There are no bootanimation.zip files in /system/media. I've tried various methods and neither of them work. The files in /system/media are in .qmg format. How can I get it to work?

just place a 'bootanimation.zip' file in the media directory that's what the custom boot animation function is looking for.
If there isn't a bootanimation.zip file there then you'll just get the standard one
I already did that. It doesn't work.
Try nimphetamine kernel. Den place bootanimation.zip in /system/media... should work...

I'm thinking of trying CF-Root kernel. Will I have any issues if I flash that kernel over this one? Will CWM and Busybox still work? I know it comes with CF root as well, but just wondering if it will cause any issues.
where is the boot animation path? yes im rooted and running a custom kernel and have a custom rom. the reason i asked is when i tried to flash it, it didnt work.
Check out the boot animation thread under apps and themes for the e4gt. I'd link you but I'm on tapatalk.
It gives you clear instructions on installing boot anis via two methods. Flashing and direct replacing of the stock rom.

I've replaced my stock boot anim with some custom boot anim. I found a few flashable zip files that have some great looking boot animations (can't remember where of course). So I boot into CWM and flash the zip files, it says that zip file flashing took "hold" reboot the device, it's still the same boot anim as before.
So then I extracted the flashable zip and found the bootanimation.zip file and overwrote the bootanimation.zip file in /System/Media.
Rebooted the device and STILL the same boot animation as before. I can't get rid of this thing! LOL
Any ideas?

You probably have one in /data/local which is preferred over /system/media if it exists.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434950
Edit: wrong sub-forum btw...
Data/Local

Yeah same thing happened for me, once I copied any new boot animation zip to data/local it works fine.
I know it's the wrong sub-forum but this thread went unanswered for a few days in the "Q&A" section. So I knew it would get a response here
Thanks!
So, if I delete the one in \Data\Local the one in \System\Media will take preference?

Why don't just go to Market, search for 'boot animation', and download an app! You can select zip then. So easy!
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using XDA App
My issue was no matter what boot animation either flashing it or placing it into System/Media .. the same boot animation would remain...

Install my script linked above, what happens?
I didn't install the script. Initially I just copied the bootanim.zip out of the data/local to system/media and the "new" boot animation took hold. Then deleted it out of /data/local and everything worked. Just like you suggested!
I took a look at your script but I am scared. LoL!
I will have to read / pay attention to the instructions when I've got more time. Because the idea of rotating random boot animations sounds cool

I am using Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300 JB 4.1.2 stock ROM but rooted. I wanted to change my boot animation and tried copying "bootanimation, zip" to "system/media" but does not work, not a single one of them. I think the problem is, my phone is using a .qmg file as boot animation named "bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg", that is why "bootanimation.zip" is not working. I thought of deleting both file and try but I am afraid that my phone would not start at all. So please can any expert here help me out with the boot animation problem. I am a newbie and really wanted to change it. Thank you in advance...
There is a patch for that from anbech...

Once patched you can use the zip format.
I posted some bootanimations over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1911963&highlight=bootanimation
cheers

DELETING THE FILES WILL ONLY DELETE THE CURRENT BOOTANIMATION. try extracting the zip file and then moving the two files to system / media.make sure to mount system rw, then change permissions to rw-r--r-- change ownership to 0-root then execute the script for each of the new qmg files .reboot. good luck.

You need to read the boot animation zip instructions its simple if you do but difficult otherwise . Essence is boot animation.zip requires slight system file modification on many roms . jje
