no root? oh no! [solved] - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, it's me again, asking help from the android community...
I've so far been playing with ROM MANAGER, downloading Cyanogen etc, last night I download the nightly #29 ... and I like it very much!!
But the problem is now, I've lost ROOT permission ... and so I went download Visionary+ r14 to root again.. but this time.. when I click on temproot it just flashes on my screen saying ''please wait'' etc...
goes on few times with no luck... Arggggg.... don't know what happened..
info:
Model Number: Desire HD
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: 12. 28b. 60. 140eP_26. 03.02 .26_M
Kernal: 2.6. 32.28 -cyanogenmod- g98000fa
Mod version: CyanogenMod -7 -03212011 -NIGHTLY -DersireHD
Build number: GRI40
Can someone please point me in the right direction.. ??????

can you boot into CWM? Flash another ROM.

CWM? .. oh clockworkmod, yes, i can reboot to it.. ..so I thought I would do a restore.. but .. when I select a restore point its says "THIS CAN NOT BE DONE" follow by a series of "-no" and .. second last option saying "-yes restore"
... sigh....
I guess it's time to bring the hammer out and play builder and smash the damn thing! ..
.. can you offer any advise.... ?

Just get another ROM, put it into your SD, do a full wipe and flash that ROM. Root is only a permission in the ROM itself, a device itself cannot actually be "rooted", so flashing a bugfree ROM will fix your problem.

lol, I went to rom manager download nightly #30 .. and did manual update through CWM and success I have root permission back!! lovely.. Thanks everyone!

[Q] Why does CWM remove its own update...

Why is it that when I Flash a new ROM to my Buzz that CMW version changes back to the one that I originally installed rather than being the updated 5.xx version that I have installed?
P.S. I have searched everywhere on here to find out BTW.
Thanks to any answerers.

I find that very hard to believe, what I suspect is that its not replacing your actual cwm but the rom manager cwm version and the reason that is, would be the version of rom manager the new flashed rom your flashing is not updated. Rom manager is normally included as a system app in many roms so when you wipe to flash the new rom,the rom manager version you were using will now be replaced with the included apps version within the rom your flashing. Turn your phone off and reboot into hboot (power button and volume down) to access your phones cwm version to check, I bet this remains the same whatever rom your using. Hope this helps your queery. Regards Slymobi.

You may have used the update.zip method, which is temporary. Try using the P49IMG.zip method (I think it is in the dev section)

[Q] Error Installing 4.2.2

first off, I'd like to give thanks to everyone on this fantastic site, it's been incredible reading tutorials on here and learning a whole lot of tricks. this here is my first thread and before I go off to look for those I owe *thanks to* I have a question am hoping I can get help with.
my HTC One (GSM) is unlocked, has a Custom Recovery (TWRP 2.3.3) and is rooted. I can install custom 4.0.. ROMS (currently running myONEv RC9.5 FX+ by ckpv5). I have however tried several times to install 4.2.2 ROMS that are on here but to no avail. with the little knowledge that I have gained after several attempts, I realise that the 4.2.2 ROMS are not flashing properly as they don't bring on a custom installer like the ROMS that are working.
can somebody please tell me why? should I update my recovery? or is there something I'm missing?
P.S, I can't seem to get a working 2.5.5 TWRP, at the developers website, their download always dies at 99.9%. ALWAYS
my phones details are as follows

4.2.2 ROMS have some bugs so i suggest u try some other ROMS
however if u want 4.2.2 , u can always flash it and USE THE CORRECT KERNEL
BTW, 4.2 ROMS dont bring up a custom installer so its normal
if in ur recovery it says succesful then the rom is flashed properly but check if u have the appropriate kernel
You dont need to update recovery however it is best doing so; your current recovery is just fine
EDIT: use this kernel : http://www.mediafire.com/?y04jyyu2wk2fig3
well..

I want 4.2.2 so badly its eating me up . will settle for a 4.1.. if I don't get it right. it's just so darn pleasing seeing my ROM much much higher than all my friends..
thank you for that piece of knowledge about the 4.2.2 ROMS not having installers. I pretty much thought that was the problem. I have been successful in installing the zips but not once have I gotten past the HTC developer warning (recovery boot animation?). I have been using the kernels that are inside the zips, going to try to load PACMAN 4.2.2 with the kernel you just gave me.
one last question, why can't I see the thank you button? is there a number of times am supposed to post before I can use it? am on a PC so am supposed to see everything, right??

If your GSM, the latest PACman ROM has issues
u can boot it with the given kernel but u wont get any mobile data connection
if u must try a 4.2 rom then go for Paranoid Android 3
dunno abt the thank u button, didnt happened to me(PC)
maybe you're just signed off?

[Q] Need some help to root my DHD on 4.3 Android version

Hello, firstable i would like to say that i'm new here, and that im totally neophyte in the wolrd of rooting phone etc.
I recently lurned that i could "root" my HTC Desire HD on a android 4.3 rom, but after spending one hour on the website, i have to say that im really confuse and that it dont seems as easy as i though it will be to root my phone. Some people might say that i'm a noob or whatever, and it's actually true, but i believe that everyone here was like me at the begening.
So long story short, i would like some help to root my phone on Android 4.3, or 4.0 at least cause some brand new apps or games seems to only works on Android 4.0, but i can't find any easy tutorial that i could follow step by step to do it, most of the tutorial use terms that i dont even understand !
So if someone could spend some time to explain me the basic step that i need to follow to root my phone, or lead me to a thread made for total beginers, i would really appreciate it, thanks for your time and i hope i will be able to manage the operation succefully !
Got a custom recovery?

There is a nice thread right there explaining about the whole process. You can upgrade to 4.3 using two methods:
1. Unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery, flash 4.3 rom, flash boot.img of that rom.
Or
2. Get s-off using aahk2, flash custom recovery, flash 4.3 roms.
Those steps is just main procedures but it should help you started.

U only need to unlock bootloader but if u want to unlock ur device 100% then do it with aahk 2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367322

Thanks for your replies, well i actually used the easyaceroottool, i unlocked the phone, and then i tried to instal 2 different rom but no one worked and now i can't use my phone anymore, expet in the recovery mode with volume - / power.
I will try to do the process again with AAHK2 as you advice me, i hope it will fix the problem and that i will be able to instal a new rom, otherwise my phone is screwed :s
i will keep you in touch, thanks
Damn, i think my phone is dead now :s i wiped all the things in the bootloader to instal the roms, and now it is stuck on the white htc screen, and it can't be recognise by the computer or AAHK2
Is it totally broken since i dont have any recovery / backup or there is a solution ?

is the phone still can go into bootloader..?, n what the state of your phone bootloader now..?
did you've already installing custom recovery..like CWM, TWRP or 4EX recovery..?, n is it the recovery still worked..?
after installing the custom rom..did you sure don't forget to flashing boot.img from the rom itself through FASTBOOT mode..?

i assume that you already had SDK/ADT for execute ADB and fastboot command..if not..you can download it from here..
just extracted the rom.zip that you already installed..find "boot.img" file in there..then copied to the SDK/platform-tools folder that's the place of your ADB n fastboot.exe on your pc..
then reboot your to bootloader with pressed volume down + power..then select FASTBOOT..then connecting it your phone with pc..until indicator on your phone change to "FASTBOOT-USB"..
then open cmd and change it the source to your SDK/ADB folder..then type (w/o quote) "fastboot devices" to cek the connected first..then type "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
now you can try rebooting the phone with type "fastboot reboot"..done..
hope this help..sorry for my bad grammar
Awesome i think it worked, now i dont have the white htc screen anymore and i think that the phone is loading the new rom, but i had to create myself a folder "Fastboot" at C:/ and past a fastboot.exe from the easyaceroottool. Anyway, it's still loading at the moment i think it will works correctly, i will keep you in touch ! thanks !
Well, i dont know if it's normal, but it has been more than 20 minute and the phone haven't started yet, i see the new loading menu from the rom running, but the phone don't start, is it normal that i have to wait that long ? it's the first time that my phone is rooted with a new rom by the way.

No..it's not normal..booting the first time of any rom after every installing is not more than 5-6 minutes..
what the rom you installing..?, just try installing another custom rom..maybe you can try (ICS rom) SVHD v2.1.0 rom..or (JB rom) MIUI V5 v3.12.27 ported rom from MIUI site..that's what i know more stable than the other custom rom..
note: always don't forget to flashing a boot.img too extracted from the rom that you've been installed..
Ok i will try the 4.0 android one, because that's why i wanted a new rom at the begening, to have a 4.0 or + android version ^^
There is no need for any gapps ? i see only one thing in the downloads section

Unrooting HTC Desire 820
Hey guys need urgent help!!! I have got an htc desire 820 and want to root it using TWRP. I did a lot of research and have a rough idea about nandroids and custom recoveries. Also i dont want any custom ROM. Just root access.Have a few questions.
1. I need to backup my stock ROM before rooting. Just in case something goes wrong. Is downloading the stock ROM from HTC website enough or do i need to do it from my phone using TWRP and transfer the file to my PC? Because after rooting(still on the same ROM...I'm assuming rooting with the superUser.zip file only gives me root access right?)the backup created through TWRP is still modified right? I mean if i flash that, my phone is still rooted right?
2. Before rooting my phone, i download the stock rom backup and save it on my PC. should i do any other safety measures?
3. If i want to get OTA update, copy that stock rom in twrp/backups and flash that and then flash stock recovery also. Then install OTA update i want to and again root by installing TWRP and flashing the same superuser file. Am i doing it right? or is there some other way of receving OTA updates for a rooted desire 820? Are there any other steps i need to do to get OTA updates?
I haven't yet rooted. So if you guys have any solution that changes the entire method of rooting like rooting without using TWRP is there, then that solution is also welcome. I hope i've made myself clear. Thanks in advance,

Where you will get stock ROM. I do not find single site for downloading HTC firmwares.
I agree with you that before doing any adventure, you should have stock rom available.
How to flash Stock Rom if you have rooted device? (from my experience of Galaxy Note 7000, I had to use Odin for flashing stock rom).

Good question. Never looked into that because everywhere it said downlaod stock firmware. I owned a samsung earlier. They provided stock ROMs in their website. Didn't find one for my device but it's there on the website for devices like htc desire 610. Just google it. Anyways i found a workaround for the OTA update. turns out you dont even need to have stock ROM!!! YAYYY!! u just need stock recovery and it will install OTA update. after updating, just install custom recovery again.
To answer your question, using a custom recovery like TWRP u can easily flash stock rom. (if you have the stock rom). Just put it under TWRp/backup. Go into recovery mode and select backup and click the file to flash!

maybe not possible
Has anyone found a way to do that? Seems like China Unicom is the only supplier that didn't update to 4.2.2.
Any ideas would be welcome.
Would it be possible to install cyanogenmod for i9082 over 4.1.2? Any alternative custom rom out there that works with 4.1.2?
Alright, after ~10 hours of learning how to smartphone, root, flash, and deal with broken guides I managed to install cyanogenmod on my i9082 china unicom. The main problem being, if you found your way to here you'll probably know already, is that that stupid carrier doesn't update to 4.2.2, making it painful to install customRoms, especially CM
.
I'll probably forget some steps so sorry in advance, I'll give my best so you don't have to go through the **** I did.
The problem with this whole community is that your filehosters 404 all the time. It's a pity about the work and time you invested in your guides.
- (I didn't backup any data but you probably want to. Use Kies for that now. I think CWM can do that as well). Installing Kies is a good idea anyway, because IIRC it installs the proper USB driver for your phone.
- Follow Step 1 here, install CWM (CWM-touch_i9082_chotu.tar). This guide in general will be your second home for now. I used Odin 3.9 instead, but I doubt it matters.
- Step 2, the link to superSU 404s. Use this one (UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip) instead.
- In the next step ("Installing Cyanogenmod [...]") download cm-10.1-20131101-UNOFFICIAL-i9082.zip from the provided link. Download gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip from the other link. You can probably risk getting a newer gapp, but it seems to be risky.
I had the same problem OP talked about here. Phone stuck on loading screen. That's because we didn't read the last line in the guide: Wipe the data in CWM. After I did that, Cyanogenmod worked (there's also some discussion about using the proper gapp zip).
Hope this helped someone. I sure would have appreciated finding a guide that still works (which this mostly does, contrary to way too many others out there).
short version in case the guide goes down: install usb drivers, download cwm recovery, download odin, turn off phone, turn it on by holding power+home+volume down, press volume up, connect phone via usb, open odin, select cwm recovery where it says 'AP' or 'PDA' in odin, press start. Download recover file, supersu file, cm 10.1, gapp. Put all 4 on your sd card in the downloads folder (in root folder you wont see the files). Turn off phone, turn it on with volume up+home+power, install from sd card -> recover, then supersu. restart phone. Enter CWM again, this time install from sd card -> cm, then gapp. restart again. It might be stuck on loading screen, if so enter cwm again and select wipe data/factory reset. Cross your fingers and it should work. If not, I'm sorry.

Hello,I'm using the China Unicom (CHU) version i9082 with Android 4.1.2,and I want to upgrade it to 5.0
I noticed there are not any offical 4.2.2 rom for CHU version,so I have no way to upgrade to 5.0 due to the roms are based on 4.2.2
So could any one tell me if it possible to upgrade my phone to Android 5.0?
Thanks~
