Market issue?? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it just me, or is the market not downloading? It seems like ever since this morning, when I go into the market and try to download something, it starts then quickly go away and doesn't download. Same with updates. Is it just my phone, or is it the market itself? I've restarted my phone and everything and still no change.

[Q] Market server errors?

Both my wife and I (both on Fresh 3.1.0.1) are getting server errors trying to access android market tonight. Anyone else having this problem? Tried rebooting, tried routing through wifi, neither helped.
Just flashed king's kernel 4 and i'm seeing the same market issues.

Yup, major market issues here, slow, slow.

EDIT: nvm, seems to be the local tower plus market refusing to go thru wifi. Sorry.

Yes. I'm getting it too. What did you mean about the towers and refusing wifi?

Edited OP. 3G here is spotty, so I thought it might be that market refused to go thru wifi for some weird auth-related reason. I wasn't seeing packets going thru the router, at least. But I turned off wifi, verified that I was able to route packets thru 3G, and still no market.

Gotcha. I do hope they fix it soon. There's nothing worse that being bored and wanting to browse apps. It's funny because I normally don't browse much on the app store. Maybe it's my fault
theres a all around problem with the market for the last hour or so i just tested both my Evo and a old Samsung Moment laying around the house and both are having the same problem.(Also my Evo's Rom is the stock rooted 2.2)
I just flashed a new ROM and thought something was bad. Good to know it's not just me.
Same here.

same here fellas!!
It got me too, hopefully it's just some maintenance, although the least they could do would be to post a notice
It seems to be back up. However, I can't find some apps, and it's not showing free apps in the list anywhere near the top when I search (e.g. my wife just searched for "clock" -- she wants a new clock widget). I'm hoping this is a temporary problem.
Actually I'd really like to be able to filter to get just free apps on a search, but, no go on this.
I think they are SLOWLY getting it back up. I don't have top paid tab in my market. Its loading very slow, and a lot of apps are missing. Hopefully it will be sorted out by morning.

Market hung on "starting download"

I have been searching for the past couple hours and haven't turned up a fix. A lot of people have suggested reflashing gapps and I'd love to do that but I can't find the apk or zip for it anywhere. Does anyone have a dl link for it? Or perhaps another solution?
Happened to me before. The market heals itself with time.

Try cancelling and re-starting the download. If that doesn't work, open up Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, find Market, Force Close it, then re-open and re-install the updated app. Works for me every time.

Done that 20 times already. I've also wiped and reflashed twice too.
I found the gapps zip and flashed it, of course that didn't work. I just noticed that I can't sign in to google talk either. Everthing I've read says that the market is heavily dependent on gtalk.
I am extremely frustrated and want to throw my evo through my damn window.
try opening Talk and letting that sign in, then restart your download and see if it works. If it still doesn't sign talk out and then back in and try again.
Works for me every time, I think there is a glitch that both apps must be logged on to work

Nope. I can't sign in to Talk.
By chance did you recently change your WiFi access point setup? Or recently attach to it? Your WiFi / router may be firewalling your outbound access. I figured this out after a lot of time banging my head with the same problem.
Even more bizzare was that once connection attempts occurred on my WiFi, just shutting off the WiFi did not resolve like I thought it would. I figured it would go to the 3G to continue... but you actually would have to power down the phone (battery out) to get it going.
Ultimately, I had to open up my port access (outbound) for my phone.
Go into settings. Force close market under running programs. Clear data. Open market. Fixed

Maybe for most people... but when I had this problem, that wasn't the cure. Although I suggest he start with your suggestion... if that doesn't fix, he needs to look deeper into what I mentioned to him.

In a shocking turn of events, now it is working again. I didn't even do anything, I just looked at it and it was downloading all the apps that I had tried and failed to download last night. New downloads are working too.
Weird.

If you can fix that your market should work too, have you tried reinstalling GAPPS? It can be found in the Cyanogenmod ROM thread.

Market problems?

Alright I have no clue what's going on here... My market isn't opening at all, it's not even force closing, it just automatically closes. Here's the scary thing, this even happens after flashing a recovery that's known to work fine. I have reinstalled gapps, I've wiped data via TB, I have tried everything I can think of to fix this and the market still closes. I have no clue what to do. Help? TIA
And I just tried going to market.android.com to see if that works and it now says I don't have any phones connected to my account (this feature has worked fine before)

This happened to me last night. It happened to me after I did a full wipe and flash of build 35, so I nandroided back and did a nowipe flash of build 35, and it oddly worked fine. Try using an earlier build, I would say 33/34 and before.
Alright, I'll try that tomorrow (currently studying for an insane strength of materials exam) and see if it works. BTW, this happened shortly after I flashed the latest CM nightly. Shortly after (about 10 minutes) two things happened: I got an error saying google talk couldn't be authenticated and then the market wouldn't open (although I downloaded and installed a few things before that with the same rom).

I hadn't tried google talk when I had the issue so I don't know. Do you by any chance have custom mtd partitions, say, with a 1.5 mb /cache?
Nope, stock partitions

Hmm. Some market issues were caused by a practically nonexistent cache partition. It's probably just a bug, I would try earlier builds or restoring a nandroid or something. It'll get resolved before it's released as a release candidate I'm sure.
Well here's the thing, right now I'm on build 23 which has been very stable for me. This problem happened on build 37 and then I nandroided back to this backup and its doing the same thing. I'm going to try to flash without wiping data and see if that works

That's incredibly strange. Maybe it's something going on with google's systems. Try flashing cm6.1.1 stable and see if the market works there, then wipe and flash build 23 again and see if it does it. If it still does it, check to see if the market auto updated, go to settings>applications>manage applications>all apps tab, scroll to market, and see if there are updates to it. If so, press uninstall updates. I read about a week ago that the market had an update that broke functionality, but it was only supposed to affect 1.6 devices, not 2.1+. Weird.
FIXED! Here's what I did:
Full wipe
Reflashed build 37
signed in as [email protected]!!! I was lazy and only put my username, which was not linked to the market, so it had no clue what to do when I tried signing in to the market. That was all. Just an FYI to fix this you MUST run the start procedure again, that's the only way to fix this.
What a pain in the butt...
Nevermind, I restarted and it came back... weird. It might have to do with TB, actually, because it didn't happen until I restored my TB backup... Looks like I'm going to have to start over in the world of android.. oh well

Chrome to phone hasn't worked for me since cm6 :/
In fact, I'm experiencing battery drain and the broken download manager is beginning to get to me so I MAY go back to cm6 for a few days but it's just so irresistible to stay on cm7 with the added features and such. Plus I don't feel like redoing my settings.

This has happened to me some times, especially when some updates have come through.
I'd accept the update and the market would force close.
The only thing that fixed it was waiting.
You could always try to install the app from the online market.

I got rid of it by long-pressing on it, going to App Info, and force-stopping the service. I don't know what it was, but I didn't like it.
EDIT: It was actually Downloads, not Facebook, that I ultimately force-stopped.

I just got it. 30 min ago. Tried uninstalling FB no dice. Can not clear notification icon.
I held the notification until it said App info, then it took me to the download manager where I did a 'force stop' and then it went away.....then came back : /
but then I cleared the download manager data and it seemed to work.

Ya even I had such an issue on my s3.... what I did to stop is:

2. Application manager
3. Openn Download manager

Yeah, same here. Pretty fishy since I don't have auto updates turned on. Just noticed it running in my notifications. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Epic 4 G Touch) on Sprint. This thread was the only mention of "Facebook (build 140579)" that Google turned up.

Forced stop dl manager and clear data worked here. Odd.
Looks like it has something to do with Google Music app. When I force quit it, it stopped my music. When I kicked my music back on, it started trying to download it again.
It's the Download Manager

The app you're Force Stopping is Download Manager. Among other things, it handles the streams for music, video, etc. That's why it's affecting (and being affected by) apps like Play Music.
Same on my DNA. I did the force stop on the download manager as well. Facebook must just be screwing with our privacy again!
same thing just happened on my s3, i let it do whatever it was for a few but then decided to clear the data and force stop. Odd little thing no one seems to know what its doing.
Same issue on Motorola Admiral (rooted).
Clearing the data on the Download Manager got rid of it (didn't force stop).
Sorry for the lateness. But yea I did the same thing and it stopped for me. It's weird too cuz when I checked the download app, there was no source
