I've got a Samsung Focus and thanks to Rafael Rivera, was able to update my Focus to the February update (no NoDo yet). I'm guessing this would've worked long ago had I made the reg update before. Basically you just need to clear out the registry value for
Code:
HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator
It was set to "ATT-US" and now it's just blank. You can use this reg editor for Samsung phones to make the change (editors that browse to the key won't work since you'll get access denied before you can reach it). Chris Walsh posted a howto for HTC devices. Apparently this will let you get NoDo now if you're in Europe?
After making the change, all you need to do is plug your phone into your computer and you'll be offered the update. The file it downloaded for my focus was http://download.windowsupdate.com/m..._fe49cc6a5f39389728a769f9013dcd491bd65168.cab. I don't think it updated my phone before doing the update? It definitely worked and I'm now running 7008 on my Focus.
FWIW, the update does seem to make my phone a bit snappier. Maybe it fixed the SD card issues? Could just be confirmation bias though.

According to those instructions, you can. But you have to dev-unlock it first. Dev-unlock is similar to jailbreaking it. I considered the process but don't want to unlock mine. I'll likely wait for AT&T's HD7S and trade out.

Yea, getting off topic but until 2 days ago here you had a choice between the HD7 on T-Mobile or Focus/Surround/Quantum on AT&T. Not much choice. Now there's at least a 3rd option of the HTC Pro7 on Sprint. The Focus was far and away the best device. I think the 7 Pro is solid and is a bit of a competitor. The HD7s looks nice too.
Same here HTC Mozart (Australian phone) but I'm in NZ. Upgraded me to 7008 but then if they are phasing the rollout even to unlocked phones, then I think only Europe are getting it right now so we just caught up.
Mine updated and installed the windows driver etc so I am hoping that tomorrow or over the weekend i'll get nodo.
At this stage it "feels" like progress - I might regret saying that

On a Telus branded LG Optimus 7, I used MFG and set:
ROOT_PATH: HKEY_LOCAL_Machine
SUB_PATH: System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo
KEY: MobileOperator
Type: STRING
Query returned: LUS-CA
I set it to empty (Query result = FAIL)
- Rebooted the phone
- Tried to Update
- Update did not work (showed 7008 as latest patch, which I got earlier today).
The device is a Telus (Canada) branded LG Optimus 7 E900h. It has been carrier unlocked, and also dev unlocked (not Chevron; it's unlocked using the MS tool).
I suspect the default value of LUS-CA stands for LG United States – Canada.
Also – I tried this with no SIM in the phone (I have not actually tried it with SIM in). Please post if you have any success!
I reset it to the original settings. By the way, if you have an LG Optimus 7 / Telus, I'd be curious about what your (default) registry setting is, too.

actualy, tried it with a space instead of just empty. no error. rebooted. still up to date at 7008
I am pretty sure that the LUS-CA stands for TELUS-CANADA, they just knocked off the te since tel-ca is too vague and telus-ca is too long for the hex registry key.

Yes, that's what I meant...the Chevron unlocker. That's the only way to get the update for HTC devices. And AT&T isn't nearly as bad as ppl make them out to be. The main issue ppl have with AT&T is that in certain higher population areas, the coverage isn't so good. With T-Mobile's networks, that will be resolved. Beyond that, AT&T is kust like any other service company: bloodsucking leeches.
From what I read, Telus in AUS is much worse.

I'm running the new "HTC_WWE_1.33.422.1_4.1.13.51_03.07.90_Ship" and my operator comes up as "Get More..." Which is pretty lame. Anyone figured out a way to change this? My digging through the registry turned up nil.
Help?
Chances are, no. It's a feature of the SIM card to be able to hold custom names that the operator wants to display. It's called EONS (Enhanced Operator Name Service, I believe). There's no way that I know of to tell WM to ignore it.
Well shoot, now i'm stumped. On the t-mob ship roms it came up fine. The HTC rom says Get More..., strange. I also have a t-mob wing (herald) and the touch-it rom said the same thing (Get More...).
This seems to be something common with roms designed for markets other than north america. Thanx for the input.

I hear a lot of contradictions about whether or not unlocked Samsung phones not being used on their original network are prompted for updates. In my case I have a branded AT&T Focus on Bell Canada's network. So far, no prompts on the phone and Zune tells me 7004 is the current phone software version.

but iirc some people said it could take weeks to get the update, and since they paused because of the issues with samsung phones idk if we are screwed or we just have to wait.

same here. no updates so far. hope i get nodo, i dont care about feb useless update =\
The Answer
I can officially confirm that until you perform the following hack on your unlocked Focus, you will not be prompted for an upgrade.
As soon as I did this hack, rebooted and connected to Zune I was instantly prompted for Pre NoDo.

When you do the registry hack and unbrand it, you should get a pop-up/over the air notification on your phone that there is an update. Mine did.

Connection Setup is back in the marketplace, under HTC Apps as before.
Current version is 1.12 (build 2119.18323). I saw it because I was prompted to update.
This version *DOES* process \Windows\CustClear.proxml still, assuming you don't have the latest HTC Updates (the Mango ones). Therefore, it's usable for interop-unlock on HTC phones if you can upgrade to Mango without getting the HTC updates (try U2M7720 or just send the CABs directly).
Thought you all would like to know!
I thought that interop-unlock is for Samsung, even though you even have connection setup you can't fully unlock your HTC device with interop-unlock in your device.
Interop-unlock just means having the MaxUnsignedApp value above 300 in the registry. This allows installing and running apps with ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Samsung or any other phone.
Heathcliff74 has released instructions for interop-unlock on LG phones, and an app for Samsung phones. The app is called "Interop-unlock" because that's what it does, but there's other ways to do it. Several other people have given instructions for doing it on HTC phones. It requires three things, though:
A CustClear.provxml file in the Windows folder. This typically means you have to roll back to pre-Mango to put the file there.
A working Marketplace (not sideloaded) copy of Connection Setup, which can process the CustClear.provxml file.
A working HTCFileUtility.dll driver, which typically means upgrading to Mango *WITHOUT* getting the HTC update that comes bundled with it (on HTC phones). You can do this by upgrading using U2M7720, or by deploying the update cabs directly, or by using a custom ROM (though those typically come already interop-unlocked).
After that, the steps are simple: place the CustClear.provxml file that will provision the registry value as needed, upgrade to Mango (sans HTC update), and run Connection Setup. The problem for a lot of people recently was that HTC pulled the Connection Setup app from the marketplace for a few weeks. This post was to let everybody know that it was back, and that it could still be used for unlock.

Why would HTC put this app back (which doesn't work if you have the HTC update BTW; tried it)? I don't understand HTC re-releasing their app for their HTC devices where it doesn't work with their HTC updates
I have a CustClear file sitting there since I upgraded the OEM route weeks ago (put it in the windows directory in NoDo and did not run/install CS until at final and it did not work; app was removed from MP, now released again and still doesn't work).
It's working for it's original purpose.
Im on Orange Network in the UK and i cant see it yet
Hopefully its just taking its time to filter through as ive held off on build 7403 untill this becomes available again so i can finally upgrade to mango and be interop unlocked,

I hear ya!
I'm starting to wonder if it will show up in the marketplace if youre not on mango.
I checked the marketplace and its still not there. Also the phone prompted me that an update is available (which it usually only did when I was connected to zune)
So any ideas anyone?
I cant use U2M7720 to upgrade I get a warning that the carrier is not in the database.
Just FYI, the app isn't working at all on an HTC Arrive (GoldC). Says it isn't supported by my device.
@atm153: That's unfortunately expected. It only works on GSM devices, and the Arrive is pure CDMA.
Folks on NoDo/7403: Not sure why it's not showing up. If it's targeted for Mango only, that would be... rude.
Folks asking if it works with the latest HTC updates (the Mango ones): Yes if you're asking "Will it set up my connection?" and No if you're asking "Will it unlock my phone?" This is the same as before.
Folks asking if it's safe to update: It appears to be just fine. However, if you're feeling paranoid, create a backup image (restore point). I had just created one for an unrelated purpose, and so was not afraid to test.
Hope that answers all of your questions...
I had HTC Connection setup on my cdma device about 4 months ago and unfortunately deleted it. It worked fine then, it was downloaded from the marketplace.
Really, Jay? That's interesting, it's been reported many times to not work on the Arrive. It works on Verizon's Trophy because that phone has both CDMA and GSM.
Give the new version a shot, I guess... but I wouldn't expect much.
I dont know if this will help anyone as i cant test it but here is a version that i had from a while back. Just thought someone may can use it?

New release of CS does not work on the Verizon Trophy Mango 7720.68 - the carrier is not in the database error comes up.
Huh... are you installing it from Marketplace or via sideloading? I expect that error if you sideload it.
Works on my HD7, but then I also have avoided the latest HTC updates so my phone still has a working HTCFileUtility driver (allows TouchXplorer to work). If I break that driver (manually, without updating) and try to use Connection Setup, I get the same error that you're reporting. It would be fantastically stupid of them to release a version that's incompatible with their own update, but I thought it was pretty dumb to pull it in the first place too (the app has a pretty important legit use...)
I got the phone in feb so im guessing i downloaded it off the market in march or april. I downloaded all the free htc apps to mess around with. What was really odd was when i set it to sprint it messed up everything. When i set it to verizon everything was back to normal. Had i known i wouldve never deleted it.
Microsoft has announced they will no longer document update releases by carriers, but this is still useful information, so now we must keep track ourselves to know which carriers are lagging behind.
Feel free to edit this spreadsheet when you have received an update notice on your carrier (no login required):
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuPW6_Ouc0FidG53dGQ1al9JbGtQWnQ2TTR2Q1pGaGc
Cheers
Looks Great. Although I would suggest that they are completly sorted by Country, then Carrier and then device I guess this is fine for a first version.
Maybe someone can add these changes later with the help of this forum.
Anyway, today I received 8107 but only after using the cable/network disconnect trick on my PC. Should I still mark it as delivering update?
As long as you haven't changed your branding or your ROM to a different carrier, then you can add that your carrier is delivering the update.

You disconnect your PC from the Internet (in my case via network cable) shortly after you start searching for updates via Zune. I actually disconnected about 5 seconds after searching started, but you can try out what works for you.
I had WiFi enabled and cellular data connection disabled (no 3G and no EDGE), although I only disabled cellular data due to my prepaid flat expiring.

omnia 7 -> no update availible in germany, even with cable trick, no chance.

I think open phones now get the updates much easily! We only need one carrier to release update and then using cab sender it updates right away! I did that with my unbranded Titan and it only took 8-9 minutes from point A to point B!
there is currectly no update delivery, maybe in the future but if you see microsoft community manager any carrier has to request the update ... but theres no carrier for open market phones, whats the obvious? Open market phones dont receive this update ever and get it maybe with the next (tango?) update.

So open phones users, we are screwed or what? i got the 7740 update right away. but until now no theethering for example.
yes this is the actual situation, some unbranded phones may not become wlan tethering because it depends on carrier request and dont get the 8107 update (on the official way...with hacks you can have both but this is not the point why i choose windows phone)

Samsung had the driver ready even before Mango started rolling out. In the official rollout drivers update was already softap implemented and working . I got some ROM that had older OEM drivers date than the Mango rollout and it was there too.
On the other hand, HTC was playing bad and didn't include it. No idea how LG and Dell...

i have german telekom sim but unbranded omnia 7 and dont got it
i know that the dell venue pro is not capable for this feature but omnia 7 was before mango!
When i look at 2 friends, one with branded telekom and one unbranded, both got internet sharing and no one can tell why my friend with unbranded got the update and i am not.
its not the lack of the feature, because i dont care about wlan tethering but who pushs the updates? Microsoft and they hold it back, a total inconsistents in the update process...like with 7740 as os update or even more worse the 8107 update
-> tested the cab sender and all seems to be fine for me but restored my backup because i want it on the official way and not this. I paid not only for the device, for the os, too! The update experience is just bull**** with wp, android doin it better because i can choose nexus phone (never thought i say this) and get every update immediatelly and apple do it the best way since now.
Looks like my next phone will be no windows phone, regardless that i like the system but i dont get what was promised and what i get.
The big issue here is how to confirm all this data.
Maybe some of the information is wrong.
I guess I'll try to keep the Sasktel (Canada) section current. I'm guessing there aren't too many Sasktel people on here with windows phones but I could be surprised.
Also +1 on being annoyed with this whole carrier requested updates.
At least we'll be able to come here to see what's officially available.

I have updated to zve... my phone is still unlocked! :good:
Phone remains unlocked. Unfortunately, it wipes APN data and now I can't go in and edit APN. Anybody have any work arounds? I can't add an APN (no option) in the settings menu (settings - more - mobile networks - access point names) nor in the ##3282# menu with the MSL. It's been a huge pain and I'm currently trying to use this phone in Peru. It can make and receive calls/texts but will not access the internet without being able to add/edit APN's.
Hi, I just want to know can I downgrade ZVE update

Why,LG, why?
Gah this is so frustrating. I had my phone unlocked by sprint and am currently abroad, but had the wonderful combination of ideas to both update to ZVE and reset network settings. I've already been using this international sim for five months and everything was fine and dandy, but now I can't add an APN so I can't connect to the internet (the apn settings are greyed out) - I even spoke to Sprint for 3 hours and they concluded there's nothing they can do. I'm thinking there's one of three things to be done: change the APN by some "hack" like a dialer code or ADB, revert to previous firmware, or connect to the internet somehow without an APN.
Does anyone know how to do either of three things? Please help.
Update: I called LG and Sprint for a combined total of about 5 hours. LG confirmed that indeed with ZVE they disabled manual changing of APNs (due to "security") and they don't even have a special code or anything to fix that. They said I should ask Sprint to maybe push an ota apn for the international carrier but they said they can't do that. The LG guy said that he would add a ticket (they can't even talk to anyone higher up) to tell the dev team to add an option again to change APNs but I don't know how likely that'll be. It's just super frustrating that LG pushed an update to break international data and now says they can't do anything about it. Reminds me of my bootlooped Nexus 5x that they said they couldn't do anything about. Smh lg, smh.

Welcome to my hell. I tried to warn the community in my comment about this exact issue. I spent weeks talking to Sprint and LG's useless "technical support." LG reps kept insisting that LG has nothing to do with software updates which is completely wrong and extremely ignorant of them to think that. Sprint advanced tech support even conferenced LG in on a call once that lasted about 45 minutes and the LG rep kept saying they don't have anything to do with the updates. Finally, we got him to agree that they did make the updates. But, even that was a waste of time. It wasn't until I wrote to LG through their website that I got several responses (mostly the same as before - walking you through how to change APN settings) but, finally in those conversations, I was able to get LG support to admit that they had a problem with ZVE and that they are the ones that broke it. The last response I got was that their developers are aware of the problem and are working to fix it. It probably won't be fixed until the next software update and they won't give me any timeline as to when that will be. It's been a couple of weeks since I last talked to LG. My advice is to do the same and file a bug error on their website. Calling in is a complete waste of time. They need more reports on this so that they know this is a big issue. You can't even go in with your MSL and change APN's. If they were really worried about security, they would at least allow the carriers to give you permission to modify the APN. Seems completely nonsensical to me.
Never update if you have an unlock. I've said this a hundred times... Maybe you can get on eBay and get a remote unlock.
somy body plz can you post this upgrade ?

It stores in /cache which you can't get to without root. I didn't see how it would help anybody either.

How does one file a bug report? I looked and couldn't find it.
As to the reason I updated my phone, I'm very involved in security and need the newest security patches I can get. Also, I don't know/don't think a remote unlock will help, I think it is actually fully impossible to add an APN at this point... I even had sprint lock and unlock my phone...

Sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it too. A bug report will get you nowhere. I've filed legitimate bug reports with solutions and didn't even get a reply. They did this on purpose and don't care if it effects you. They don't want you to use your device the way you want, they want you to use it the way they want.
I read this in other post
Idk this work
HiddenMenuCall
Google, download and install HiddenMenuCall_1.7.apk
Go to LTE Settings
Go to APN Settings
Set APN there and use "default, dun, fota" as APN Type
Restart phone
Done!
