[Q] Forum chat room - About xda-developers.com

why isnt there a chatroom feature directly connected to the forums? that XAT one sorry to say is really crapy. www.omniahub.com/forum has a pretty nice one and its intergrated into the forums and its from AJAX Chat, the XDA admin can pick it up at https://blueimp.net/ajax/

This is a forum site. We prefer the Forum Structure. I doubt you will see built in Chat room on XDA. There are, however, unofficial IRC chat rooms that a lot of XDA members spend time on.

On a forum, the information is here for good, for others to refer to.
On a live chat system, the information is lost after a few minutes (normally)

but a chat wouldnt just be for information, it would be used for feed back etc.. its like oh you need help asap with your phone, 10 other people are in the chat, say 2 of them have the "knowledge" to help and can right then and there, i just think adding a chat for members to discuss through aside from the forums is a good idea. and i can bet if one was added it would be used religiously.

Once again, There are already unofficial Chat rooms for the examples you are talking about. #xda-devs on Freenode IRC. You don't even need to have an IRC client, there are Web based Clients people could use.

I personally think it'd be a good idea for people to just talk. Not necessarily about help with your phone but just basic chat. It brings a more community-like atmosphere to forums. Although I see how it could get a bit messy seeing as the amount of traffic that passes through XDA everyday.

I'd like to have a forum chat.. maybe in the main page of the forum..

Jesus is Lord! (And when I refer to Jesus I mean Jesus Christ...not JesusFreke), although he is The Man. lol

Chef Forums?

I'd like to make a suggestion for XDA to consider.
I was just about to suggest to DL that he open his own website forum after watching how many threads become very, very, very, painfully long - like 400++++ posts for each build. That makes it hard for newbies to understand what's going on, and even for those of us who do know, to find what we're after.
I am wondering if those developers who regularly post ROMs here on XDA might be given their own sub-forums for the purposes of bug reports and improvement suggestions to manage their own product.
For example, guys like NRG, DFT, DL and others are always posting updates. But the threads get very long, and very confusing with duplicate posts. If they had their own forum subsection - say for example DL could have his own Android subforum for troubleshooting his NAND and SD builds, that would, I think, very much help.
Just an idea.
Thanks!
We have one, it just didn't really take off, so it's been "upgraded"... more info is in svetius's State of Site announcement : http://www.xda-developers.com/announcements/the-state-of-the-site/

[REQ] Odex and Deodex article

I'm unsure if this is the right place for this thread, but
I was wanting to request a feed article be made for xda portal discussing the basics and differences of odex and deodex, how to handle each etc etc. I see it a lot when going to download this or that to flash on my phone and sometimes feel ignorant about it.
I would find such an article very useful and interesting, as I think others would. Would anyone that posts on xda be willing to whip up such an article? Or, how could I properly submit my request for the article?
You may find this gem helpful mate, I certainly learned a few things

If you'd like to see anything specific on the portal then feel free to contact one of the writers or our illustrious Portal Admin willverduzco who will be happy to discuss it with you.
I'll raise this and see if it's indeed feasible. Perhaps adamoutler may even be willing to do a pro tip video on the deodexing / reodexing process but I'd have to ask him about that....

You can submit a thread as a news tip by clicking the button in the top right of the first post on any thread. It will say "Submit Thread as News Tip."

I don't know if any of you remember the XDA Toolbar extension I made, but it's very old, very limited and only works on one previous XDA theme. You can see it here if you never saw it before...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339825
I'm now working on a new extension that I'm naming XDA Plus, that will do the things that the toolbar used to do, but will also have a ton of other options. I'm nearly at the point where I'll be able to start testing the extension, but for now I'm looking for people with creative input of things that they'd like to see the extension do. Now this extension will not be performing magic tricks - I can only manipulate what's already there, not add major new features. So with that in mind I'm really only looking for people that have at least a basic understanding of what a forum like this can actually do.
I've started a social group so we can chat and you can post suggestions (and issues, once you have a beta version to play with). It's invite only so just post in here if you're interested in joining. Please don't just post "I wanna join teh club". If you do then you're not the right type of person. Give me some idea of why you'd be a good tester, or give me some good suggestions for features.
I would love to help test it out. I may ask a lot of questions about how things are done...because I iz learning....
