This has been bugging me for a while now, and it is not clear to me, why anyone would want to shutdown the phone on the lockscreen.
What happens is, when i sit down, the on/off button is presses against my thigh and turns off the phone. I find this to be rather annoying, escpecially since this makes the phone rather obsolete.
is there any way to disable the shutdown functionality while the phone is locked?
is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
Nope..... sounds like you have a faulty unit to be honest mate lol
seriously? your phone doesnt turn off when you hold down the power button on the lockscreen?
i find it hard to imagine that this might be a hardware issue. nevertheless, i use an HTC Mozart.
Mine shuts down too.... but I have a HD2 with WP7 so I wasn't sure if it was a WP thing or a WP+HD2 thing.
Get a case and stop having it hit your thighs. I can honestly say I have never had the power button depressed on accident on my Samsung Focus, with or without a case.
Not really much else you can do unless someone finds a very specific reg tweak.
Oh, thanks for your feedback. well that sucks..
What were they thinking? Who would be too lazy to unlock their phone before turning it off? I really resent the iPhone, but at least its developers had the common sense to add a confirmation slider to the shutdown process. Even WM used to show a dialog box.
Ive now got a pin code on the lock screen and disabled the sim pin. So now, at least, it turns itself back on and connects to the network automatically - provided I acidentally manage to hit the button again of course xD
Hope we find a registry setting that will do the trick, or maybe MS might even be bothered to fix this in one of their very regular updates...
Im with you on that , my focus (with the case ) shuts down easy when barely touched , Im really surprised the guy with the Focus hasnt accidently shut down, then again if you dont ever put it in your pocket or hold it the wrong way ,I guess that wouldnt happen, Im sure theres a hack for it, but not having (full) access to registry is limiting the chances of creating the string!

my xda2s recently experienced a problem which consists of the volume bar keep going up and up making the 'end' noise repeatedly, and if say the volume bar on the side were to be pressed down, it would go down n go up again...
secondly, the power button is not functioning well, it can turn the phone on by clicking it once (as usual) it can turn the backlight on and off by holding it (as usual) but it wont turn off by pressing it once, or anything...
help please, thank you
doesn't happen with any of my 3... sounds like you've got them there problems.
pYroboy,
let me know if you found the resolution. My problems are similar to yours...
Thanks.
doesnt happen to any of my two BA...
try opening up your unit and clean up the contacts.
I did open it, but could not figure out which contact to clean. Power switch is sooooooo freaking small, I did not figure out what I could clean there, it seems that it is 2x4mm in size soldered for good to the board. Same about volume rocker/switch on the side.
How is it possible to clean them??? I could not figure out what could be cleaned there without detaching the switches from the board.
Does anyone sell these parts? Maybe it would be easier (although not easy also because they are so freaking small) to replace them??
Guys, need advice from you... from the ones who fooled around with similar parts...
Thanks.
try an air brush. or a fast evaporating contact cleaner.
just make sure you apply enough pressure not to blow the sensitive parts away.
*just becareful
OK. Thanks. I'll try that. But where do you people get that stuff. Do they sell it in electronics stores, or I need to look someplace else?
I need to do something anyway, because today I can't turn ON. I used timeout of 1 minute on battery power to power it OFF. But not being able to turn the whole thing ON really put me down....
Is there any program to remap Power On/Off button to Recorder or Media Player buttons on the side? They are all 3 the same switches. If it would be possible, I'd get by using one of those buttons.... Just running out of freaking ideas here....
contact cleaners can be found in your local radioshack(i.e. electronics or computer botique/shops).
regarding the power button i think that is hardwired to be the only powerbutton for the unit. sad to say you cant map it to powerup your BA.

Assuming you have the button lock enabled you can wake it up by receiving a phone call, and then disable the button lock and use any button to wake up/turn on the device. This is not the most elegant solution, but if cleaning fails to fix it then it may be your only option.
Hey i have a quite a bad problem. My phone appears to be unlocking its self very easy and ringing people in my pocket, today it rang 8 people in the space of an hour. Ive got pocketshield but this stops it picking up calls, not ringing them. Im unsure what to do. I dont even know how its happening, im thinking the top button must keep getting pushed in my pocket or something.
Any ideas/apps to lock phone after wakeup? I dont want to put the pin on it because it may end up locking my phone instead! plus its a bind having to enter a pin every few minutes. Something like pocket shields scroll down the screen etc would be good. But i see no option to enable it for when waking up.
Thanks.
I've had no such issues since using S2U2. Give it a try!
Or LockMeLite - much lighter than S2U2 and doing just what you want - locking the screen and hardware buttons when power button is pressed and unlocking the screen on incoming call so you don't have to unlock to answer and still keeping the buttons disabled so you can take it out of the pouch without accidentaly answering/ignoring the call.
Me too.. LockMeLite has been definitive for me. No more "lost" calls by hardware.
Fk
My solution was to stick a crystal case on it,it recess's the power button so its not pushed by accident.
if u press and hold the phone icon bottom right it locks the screen , to unlock pull out the stylus.
the problem is its not to do with calls or texts, i have pocketshield for that. Its to do with the powerbutton keep getting knocked. At least i think it is.
holdign down the phone key to lock the screen sounds like a gd idea ill look into that.
And yeah getting a protective case might solve it too. Ill cehck that out too thanks, though i do kinda like the sleak design. I gues its gona get ruined proably lol.
:EDIT:
Simply locking the screen before turning it off works a charm! thanks. Now im just wondering, is there an app that will just auto lock it when i turn screeen off ? Just makes it all that easyer so i dont forget and call people again!
I had the same problem before using a belt case. I tried s2u2, but it's lagging. Now I'm satisfied with Pocketshield. Just work in its setting and you can have it work well.

Again - LockMeLight. It locks the screen automatically when the phone goes to sleep and you have to slide the screen down when waking it to unlock it. On top of that it disables the hardware buttons when locked, so no accidental calls are made when you unwillingly wake the device even with the screen locked.
original case
i use original htc case for hd.
Hey everyone,
I am having issues with my TP2 screen turning back on to easily and consequently lots of things get pushed in my pocket, and emails sent etc hahaha.
Like it only takes a brush over the power button to turn it on and this happens just about every time it goes into my pocket or pouch.
Is there some way to get the keys to lock when i turn the screen off?
I have noticed on long end key press there is a lock function, but this seems to have unlocked itself a couple times in my pocket.
What can i do? this is starting to annoy me.
Thanks
Buy a case
you can set it to lock when you set the sceen off. But still it will be the same lock screen.
there are nummerous apps for a alternative lock screen, there are at least four threads about it. I suggest you search in this forum and the forum rhodium software
Would like to give you some links, but I'm in a bit of a hurry.
Thanks mate,
I will try searching a bit better, what i was searching before wasnt giving me anything.
Cheers
Does S2U2 work on the TP2? I use it on my Kaiser and very much like it.
Andre
I have always used the WM built-in password lock - set to 1 minute, the whole thing is locked, on any device.

You have to set the time to 0 (zero) for the power button to work. I myself have been trying some different lockers, i like the Throttle locker which i used on my TYTN II and aslo on my TP2. I didn't like the password lock on the TYTN 2 since it wasn't so finger friendly but thanks to the tip here i will use the password built in with time set to zero so i can power off easy and not let people sneak into my phone.
Hello boys
from about 1 week i have this problem on my device, if i have the keyboard out and write an sms or typing an url when slide the keyboard in the device automatically reset itself...
anyone knwo this problem or the solution ?
Thanks for the help
Nicola
Hi,
I have a problem with my keyboard too, I've searched the forum but i didn't see the same problem as i have or the solution. My phone's screen turns off when i slide out the keyboard. Actually phone stays on but the light of the screen goes off. when i slide it out i'm able to write something or make calls. when i slide it back, screen keeps itself off and i press the sleep key "2 times"!(screen looks like off but it isn't) to reopen it again. I press the sleep key for the first time to turn the screen actually off, and press it one more time to turn it on again. i did a soft and a hard reset to the phone, didn't solve it. I don't think it is a software problem but i hope it is

These are the photos of the occasion.
The screen keeps itself on until the end of the slide. it turns off then. when I slide it back, i can see the backlight of the screen and the light of the buttons.( i don't think that you would see it on the photo, 3rd photo).
I'm waitin for your help guys, thank you so much.
Isn't there anyone to help my problem? I'm waiting for your answers..
I'm also having this same issue. When I slide the keyboard in it just turns off sometimes. At first I thought it might be a physical issue with the internals of the phone and the sliding impact of the keyboard was causing it to reset, but it doesn't do it all the time for me. I can jam on it and nothing happens sometimes, or other times it resets from a gentle nudge. I am running Energy GTX from August 26 or 28, whatever version that was.
I also have this issue now where my end key is unresponsive. Doesn't. Work. Ever. and that is so freaking annoying. If anyone has any insight here PLEASE share it.
Thank you.
Wow i just saw your message and suprised. Is that my phone you're using? Because I have that end key problem too. It works when I press too hard. And I have 3rd problem now. I think my phone's microphone is not working. People i'm talking on the phone is always complaning about that they can not hear my voice or it's too low. Now I have three problems:
1. Phone is turning itself off when i slide the keyboard out.
2. End key is not responsive.
3. Microphone is low or its broken..
Maybe reflash your phone to origional rom.
I was using WM 6.5 without hardspl when the problem occured. then i did hardspl and installed custom roms, i even tried with WM 6.1. It didn't help about any of it. I'm used to not using the keyboard actually, but the problem with microphone is annoying..
Same problem with the keyboard

I have the same problem !!!! Did you manage to resolve because I am sure this is software relatred. I had android on my phone prior to this and fixated that the issue is coming from this
Had the same keyboard issues, found that it was a battery issue. when you shut the phone, the battery would loose connection.
bluewaterkayak,
more info on the loose battery connection.
i have the same problem with sliding the keyboard down and the screen turning off. closing it, pressing the sleep button 2x, turns the phone back on. i can slide the keyboard down just enough and hold it to type out a text, any more and it'll go off.
THIS IS SUPER ANNOYING
Bumpski. Really need this fixed.
What ever you last installed take it off. If not you might have to go factory restore
It's definitely not a software issue. The screen itself somehow gets disconnected when slid up all the way.
Took it apart and found nothing obvious wrong. Is there something to look at exactly when the slider is at the end of it's travel? The cables seemed fine. The problem only happens at the end of travel.
I cleaned the slider area and pried some contacts down. Nothing. Put it back together and same problem.
Ideas??
See here:

Tried the fix posted in the last link with Kapton Tape.
Didn't work.
Any ideas?
I have the same issue. My old VZW TP2 is sitting in a drawer in my house because people kept saying they couldn't hear me on the other end. Also on my new one, when i slide the keyboard in/out sometimes it turns off, not always though. I figured it has to be a hardware issue as well, if i do it slowly nothing happens but if i just slide it open and let the springs kick in, it usually cuts off once it 'snaps' to the end of the sliding path.
I turn my phone off a lot when I travel to save power. I've noticed that only doing a quick press turns the phone off from a cold state which is very annoying when i'm just trying to make sure my phone is off like I did in the WM days and currently do with my android device. I'm wondering if this is restricted to my device (HTC 7 Pro) or it affects all WP7 phones.
Does this annoy anyone else? I've written to HTC so if it annoys you too please complain so we can get this changed!
My Focus requires a long press (2+ seconds) to turn the phone on. It sounds like your problem may be HTC-specific, or something is wrong with your particular phone.
Thanks for the head's up, my complaint has been forwarded to the dev department of HTC so hopefully they fix it soon.
my arrive turns in with a short press I think, as well as my tp2 and other HTC phones I've had. doesnt really seem like a big issue to be concerned over. the accidental turn off issue was resolved in the mango beta and powering off really isn't necessary just a switch to airplane mode or enabling battery saver.
Unless I misread the OP, his concern isn't with accidentally turning off the phone, but accidentally turning it on, since it seems that accidentally bumping the power button on an HTC phone will turn it on.

and I've told him that it's not necessary to do that in wp7. I don't get people, first they were complaining about the power button being too hard to press now it's the other way around.
l find that if you wanna check your phone..rather than pressing the power button press the camera button. If its on it'll go to the camera app. If its off it'll stay off.
I have never complained about the power button being too hard, I just checked and my TP2 does this too which is annoying. It's really not a difficult thing to implement and I should be able to conserve as much battery as possible without having to resort to flight mode only.
For now I'll use the camera button idea (thanks!) however ironically enough I have to long press the camera button to see if it wakes up, go figure...
Q&A is that way.... ---->
