Rooting Desire - Desire General

Hello guys.I have a HTC Desire with 2.29.405.2 firmware and 0.93 bootloader.I tried several methods to root it but i did not succed.I tried Unrevoked 3.32 but it says that the firmware is to new.!!!???I tried more manual methods as well but without any luck.Any sugestions?

Have you changed the hboot driver as per unrevoked instructions in the more info section?
If so, try removing the SD card prior to using unrevoked. Worked for a friend of mine

Or even better try 3.2
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

I had the same problem and 3.21 did the trick for me

same - i had to use 3.21 reflash_package.exe to get it working
i thought you could get it from http://downloads.unrevoked.com/ but can't seem to find it anymore...
logic would say its in something like http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.21/reflash_package.exe

Try connecting it in disk drive mode, I know it says to connect in charge only but that's what I did after it said my firmware was too new and it worked for me

Rooting is goood! Thank you XDA!

I'm pretty new to the whole root/reflash game, so excuse me in advance if this is a nub question
I just used the unrevoked version linked above (3.21) and it seemed happy with rooting my phone (I'd tried other versions before that didn't work; and I did install the Hboot drivers linked in the unrevoked wiki). Now I'm not sure how to actually check if my phone is rooted properly. I've got the Superuser Permissions app installed courtesy of (AFAIK) unrevoked, but it's empty when I run it. My phone is still S-ON, but from what I understand I need to run AlphaRev to get it S-OFF.
Basically, in my current state is my phone rooted or unrooted? And what do I need to do to fully root it if it is unrooted?
Currently it reads the following when booted into recovery:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
Aug 10 2010,17:52:18
Thanks XDA

Why not try downloading an app that requires root? and see if it works, something like Root Explorer possibly.
Superuser will be empty until an app that requires root permission is used then Superuser will ask to give it permission to run and save the details.
Hope this helps.

Is there any tutorial on how to install the Oxygen Hboot? I found some tuts to install custom Hboots which requires to type some commands, and I don't know where to to type them
edit: sorry, wrong thread!!!

Got any free apps that require root? Not sure I need to spend money on an app just to check if I have root :\
Also, I assume once I'm rooted I'll need an app to remove some of the stock apps that come loaded? Some of the apps on the phone I never use and don't need (Messages, Facebook, Flickr, and a couple others).

Best method?

Just wondering if you guys can tell me what's the best method of rooting my phone with hardware 003 Hboot 2.10 ? Sprint sent me a refurbished phone because my other EVO died.
Unrevoked, I think it works for all evos. Google it or search xda. I can't post the link
We're comin from a pure power source.
Search feature ftw...Anyway as of today, EVERY Evo can be rooted with unrevoked 3 don't let anyone tell you otherwise
The last time I tried unrevoked I got a error saying something was missing and didn't work. I'll download and give a try again, Thanks for the responses

Just follow those instructions, and you'll be good. Just be sure to have the hboot drivers installed correctly.
I used unrevoked, worked great for me. I'm new to flashing roms and it was easy. Just google it and download it from their site. Happy rooting!

Hmm. So you installed the hboot drivers successfully? You have USB Debugging checked, right? There are a number of things that can interfere with the Unrevoked process, such as HTC Sync, Anti Virus Programs, PDAnet, doubletwist, etc etc. Basically, you want to be sure that there are no programs running that can communicate with your phone or interfere with it when it's plugged in, other than the Unrevoked program. Be sure all other things are disabled. Also, which version of Unrevoked are you using? Just to be sure, it's the newest one, correct? Version 3.32, right? ( http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.32/reflash_package.exe ) Once you've confirmed all of those things, try running Unrevoked a second time, and see if you have success. I've used unrevoked a number of times, and it's succeeded for me every time, it should definitely work.
Edit: And I just double checked the links in the thread I linked you to earlier, and the download links are current and up to date. So if you downloaded from that link, then you are on the current Unrevoked version of 3.32. So that answers that question. I would temporarily disable your anti virus, be sure that no other programs that can interfere are running, and try running Unrevoked again.
~~~ HTC EVO - Universal Auto Root ~~~ v2.4 (works with all US EVOs)(3/12/11)
I believe autoroot works with ALL evos. I've used it to flash several evos flawlessly. Make sure you have htc sync and the android SDK installed before you do to ensure you have all the necessary drivers.
Looking to root friends desire - unrevoked...
Hi, i've been looking around to help my friend with his new desire,
I would like to see if this works, according to my research...
If I ran the phone through unrevoked, would this root the phone?
And in turn, let us install rom manager + clockwork mod?
I don't have much experience around here as I am still looking about rooting my nexus
Hope you can help
I'm gonna have to ask about the bootloader info, but it is currently running stock (latest) which I think is 2.2?
EDIT: How do you get into the bootloader? Is it power+ volume down?
Yes.
If its running 2.2, chances are very high that you can root it with unrevoked. Make sure the hBOOT version is 0.93.xxxx
It will work. As long as the drivers required are properly installed. And you don't need s-off unless you are planning to change the boot partitions (eg. Change from Stock hBOOT to CM7r2 hBOOT to get more space for apps)
If your still not 100% sure I don't think you should even try rooting your friends phone. You'll need the htc usb drivers installed on pc, make sure the htc sync apps is not installed.
Use unrevoked to root and install cwm recovery, from there you can install any of the great roms.
But read the faq too. It's not about blindly following steps. It's about understanding the process and what you are doing.
Need advice please
I've been trying to root my incredible for some time now. I first tried back in February and got a back up cid missing error message, after searching the Internet for answers and coming up with nothing I decided to wait for unrevoked to get updated. So recently I decided since I haven't got 2.3 I would try again still getting same errors, I've tried 3 different computers. I at a lost as to what to do. Any suggestions?
I would try flashing the stock Verizon 2.2 Froyo RUU from your computer and then try to root again. Make sure you have the USB debugging checked in menu/settings/applications/development before you try to root. That's what I would start with.
Also what OS are you using to do this?
This was my last step that I tried last night before bed. I downloaded the zip from Doug piston and renamed it PB31IMG, booting into hboot nothing happened. By that point my battery was dying so I gave up for the day. This morning I used astro to double check the zip. It was listed as PB31IMG only so I tried to rename it PB31IMG.zip. Astro said that file already exists so I left it as is. I tried hboot again and it says something so fast I can hardly read it. I tried to read it about 20 times but it happens so fast, I think I need to video it so I can pause it. But what I could make out it was looking for something other than PB31IMG.zip
No but i remember having to run through unrevoked again after flashing an RUU. Possibly to add root/SU app again as i think the RUU i used removed the super user ninja app. But Revolutionary stayed on the HBOOT screen. And unrevoked took like 2 mins to complete
make sure ur RUU is version 2.1 or lower in order to use unrevoked tho
No, at the end it will ask you if you want to root your phone as well, not a big deal
srsrooted desire hd - how to s-off
Hi,
could anyone point me in the direction of a s-off program for use after rooting with srsroot.
most seem to link from other processes for rooting like visionary.
for example would it be an issue to use One click ENG S-OFF?
it's a Desire HD with superuser installed and Gingerbread 2.3.5 stock rom still installed.
unlocked bootloader with htcdev before srsroot.exe
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bertwell said:
Hi, was hoping someone could give me some direction as after attempting to root with aahk but running into a bootloader crash and having to reinstall original ruu a couple of times I finally decided to start from scratch.
unlocked through HTCDev and ran on srsroot without a lot of hope but for once it looked like it had gone fine. rebooted with superuser access and was able to install 4ext and busybox, granting root access with both.
But I now find that phone is still s-on which appears to mean I can't change the recovery to 4ext's touch option.
does anyone know of a suitable s-off programme which wouldn't be affected by srsroot being my programme of choice. many appear to point towards visionary.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.
There are not any "one click" s off programs that will work on your firmware. You will have to downgrade to an exploitable radio,either using this software,or by using a manual guide.
