I used MyBackup Root to back up all my contacts on my phone while I was using leedroid. When I've reloaded them into cynogenmod each contact has about 4 copies.
Is there a way to sort my contacts and remove the duplicates? or is there an alternative contact list like that on sense I'm missing having peoples profiles linked with their contact data. The non sense contacts in cm7 rc2 is weak in comparison to the sense verison.
Any ideas are much appreciated.
Thanks
The way I did it I setup my contacts to sync with my Google Account so no matter what rom I have I always have my contacts. Then I just link Facebook and Twitter and I get the contact pictures. It's much easier than using 3rd party apps to do it for you.
Ignore this i've posted my question elsewhere.
Sync all your (multiple) contacts contacts to gmail.
Log into gmail on a pc, click contacts on the left side bar. Then click the drop down box "more actions", and select "find & merge duplicates".
Having your contacts synced to gmail works really well for swapping and changing roms, and also pretty much guarantees you will never loose them.....

Hey all,
Having moved from SenseUI to the OpenDesire ROM I am loving it but finding one SenseUI feature is sorely missed whenever I have to do a wipe.
Basically it seems that with SenseUI it stored a sort of Facebook link to each contacts profile on the Notes of the contact in Google Mail so when you wiped and it re-loaded your contacts it would automatically know which Facebook profile to link it with. With OpenDesire only a few contacts manage to pick up their Facebook profiles due to their contact names perfectly matching their Facebook profile names, problem is I have a lot of nicknames etc. in my contacts so everytime I wipe I have to go back into contacts and re-associate the majority of my contacts with Facebook profiles.
Is there any way to automate this or back it up to be restored after wipe?
Thanks
Russ
Hi
Sorry for bumping this thread but i have the same issue but with the new Gingerbread rom.
Anybody know a solution?
If you want to back up the contacts storage which saves these settings use titanium backup from market.

I may flash a custom Gingerbread ROM a few months down the road but I'm staying stock until the hardware checks out. The only thing I don't like about Sense is it's gone and added a ton of Facebook friends with phone numbers to my contact list and I really don't want them. Is there a way to remove them? I can't seem to find a simple solution.
Thanks in advance.

I just double checked, contacts aren't being synced for Android Facebook or Sense Facebook. When I go into the contacts app (I think it's called People) I have set my 70 contacts from Facebook for Sense to not be viewed, but they still appear in the list of people to call or send messages to. I don't care if they're there, but at the least I don't want to see them. I have them hidden in contacts but they appear in Handcent and Phone anyway.
Did you ever in the past link up FB contacts to an android phone? In that case I believe it also syncs up with Google's contacts in the cloud...but I may be mistaken
Yeah this got posted a while back, I know what you mean it's annoying. It meant my phone tried to sync a ton of stuff I didn't want to my car stereo unit via Bluetooth.
Someone did post up a solution, try a search for Facebook and contacts.
I recently flashed my EVO 4G and running CM7 rom. I'm enjoying it, but miss a certain feature from the default factory EVO. I was able to sort contacts by & create groups for my contacts (business, personal, work, family, etc) before the flash occured. This allowed me to view the groups very easily. Contacts were also able to go in multiple categories. Is anyone able to assist me in doing so with the contacts i have on cm7, which are simply alphabetized at the present? Thanx in advance...
Rocket Dialer uses the contact groups that have been synced from your account. I'm sure there are other replacements that do as well.
I think that when you sync your contacts from Google on CM7, the groups sync as well. The stock contacts and phone apps just don't show them.
I could be wrong, though.

Thx...I will give it a try
I have been using GO Contacts and like it very much. Does groups, etc... not sure if it is synced with any contact groups saved with Google. Gonna give Rocket Dialer a shot, too.

Dialer One is very similar to the Sense Contacts/People apk.
The GO Contacts is working well for me...thx alot for the insight...
Last some days I made an experiments with different ICS ROMs on my Desire.
I tried Sandvold's ROM v0.13 and latest COS-Bravo.
And I found a problem with contacts. ICS on Desire do not let me save a contact as a local phone contact. Remember, on 2.2 there was an option: store to phone, or store into gmail, also it was a possibility to link contacts.
Now the only way - to save save contact as gmail contact.
Does anybody able to save local contacts?
Not sure about local contacts option, but the linking contacts option is a feature in HTC Sense so unless you use that then it will probably not give you the option you are used to. Some ROM's do have alternative features which do the same thing though.
On BCM the same. Only able to store contacts as Google contacts. But hey, who wants local contacts anyway nowadays?

on COS-Bravo it is a possibility of linking. But what the reason for linking gmail with gmail?

Pity...
I hate g-contacts because it spoils photos.
And the main idea - I don't want all my contacts in Gmail (what for?) and all gmail contacts in Phone (lot's of trash, useless to search).
So I think this function is nessesary
here's my fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1808037
So a couple of things:
First off I'm not new to android but I am new to jelly bean (skipped from 2.3 to 4.2.2 soooo ya)
Second, I understand that google has removed the ability to sync your contact photos with facebook but, I'm running Carbon 1.4 and just yesterday I went to add a contact who I'm friends with on facebook to my gmail contact list through the people app and as I was typing her name her facebook contact popped up and I was asked if I'd like to merge the two and I did so I got her contact photo, the whole shebang. Which was highly unexpected but equivalently awesome.
But now I have the problem of in the quick settings panel there's the profiles button with, what's supposed to be my contact listing, has no picture, no number, nada also it's saved on my local "SD" not my gmail so it cannot be synced when flashing new ROMs. So when I go to edit my contact information I can add everything manually, but I have my own contact listing in my contact synced with my gmail that I'd prefer to link it to so I don't have to re-setup my own picture and stuff each time I reflash a rom.
SO my question is, is there a way to sync my personal contact information with facebook and gmail or even just gmail so the information never changes?
thank you
