[Q] Any way to get People functionality in vanilla ROM? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been using Cyanogen7 and really like it. When I see folks discussing this vs. Sense ROMs, vanilla boosters frequently ask what Sense fans like about Sense so much. The response usually seems to be that they like the Sense widgets and the dialer, and vanilla defenders say that equivalents can be found elsewhere (Beautiful widgets and DialerOne, e.g.).
However, the only thing I really miss about Sense is the People app. Not because I like its interface so much, but because it seems to be the only contacts app that easily allows you to modify group membership and birthdays. Apps like Contact Group Manager exist, but these don't seem nearly as well-designed (and don't handle birthdays).
Any apps I'm missing out there?

[Q] twitter client

I want to buy a substitute for the basic android twitter client. Which of these twitter clients do you recommend, and why?
Twicca.
I'm surprised you didn't include this in the poll as it's considered one of the best twitter clients out there (according to many users - also free).
At least you can give it a try before spending money on a commercial app and if you like it, you can still donate to the developer.
Good luck in your search!
Tweetdeck Beta
http://www.tweetdeck.com/go/android
Twicca
It doesnt support multiple accounts, other than that the best available twitter client for android.
I love the picture preview and the clean streamlinrd UI.
Tweetdeck
Tweetdeck, its only in beta for android and you have to get it form their site, but its very good.
seesmic is da best
In the first place, what are you looking for that the free clients cannot provide? It is not possible for us to recommend anything without knowing your requirements.
If you're still looking for a twitter client. I always looked for a HTC Peep-styled app widget.
I just found "Touiteur", its from the developers of "Beautiful Widgets".
I love it because the UI looks nice and userfriendly and FINALLY an app with a 4*4 scrollable widget (for almost all known launchers that support scrollable widgets...except, of course, Touchwiz)
just wanted to share that, i know that the last post is 3 months old. havent found a good client in another thread.
Twidroyd is quite good
I tested Twitdroyd as well, i couldnt get used to any twitter client. But twitdroyd seems to be very popular.
Im just glad, that i found touiteur^-^

Best ROM if you don't want social networking?

Hi Folks
What's the best ROM, if any, if I don't want social networking? For cleanliness, space and speed, I'm looking for a ROM that has removed Facebook, Footprints, Friend Stream, Peep, Plurk and Twitter amongst others. I simply never use them so my phone is carrying a lot of baggage I don't need or want.
I can't seem to find a ROM that fits the bill, even the "basic" ROMs seem to include all or most of these.
Probably just me being dense...
Thanks

Any AOSP roms, such as OpenDesire or Defrost, you loose HTC sense, but if your wanting a cut down speedy version, your looking for vanilla android.
Or you could delete those applications from your current phone, either ADB from recovery and delete the apps or use S-OFF, mount the system as r/w and use an explorer (root explorer) to delete them.

I go with Modaco´s kitchen rom, you can just remove/add what feature you want.
Moved to Q&A. Please do not post question threads in Development.
You can remove those applications from Sense ROMs pretty easily as has been said. That's what I did on mine, no problems at all.

[Q] Exchange email vs. HTC Sense email

Hey guys
I was wondering if anyone could give a quick comparison between Galaxy Nexus Exchange email and that of HTC Sense. Is it as good? Better? If you could have Sense email on your Gnex, would you use that instead?
I strongly dislike Sense, so I may not be the best candidate here. I came from a bunch of Moto phones, and then briefly used Touchwiz on a Stratosphere, so I can speak more to the Moto Exchange client and the Touchwiz one (which isn't stock Android, although it looked similar).
Early Moto clients were severely lacking, didn't have folder display options, couldn't search, etc. The current Android client in ICS is very good. Server-side search is there and works (you need E2k7 or 2010 for this to work, I don't think Exchange 2003 has server-side search). You can pick a folder to view, and set the sync amount for each folder individually (it's not clearly obvious that this is how it works, but it changeable on a per-folder basis). I usually take a month from my inbox, but I have a "save" folder that has important info and I like to sync the whole thing (it's only about 50-60 messages give or take). Moto wouldn't allow this on the Droid 2. I think the option may have shown up on the D3, but that phone had issues for many people with randomly dropping the "Push" option I believe.
The Sammy client on the Stratosphere was decent, but missing a few features that Moto added in D3. The Android client seems pretty thorough now - I don't feel like I'm missing anything at least, and it's really cool to finally have a standard UI between gmail and Exchange.

I'm coming off a Thunderbolt and relied heavily on HTC Mail because of Exchange. I did prefer HTC Mail due to it's UI more than anything else. That was up to Gingerbread.
I'm happy to say that I won't be missing HTC Mail anytime soon. Stock Android Email client got a UI cleanup like most of the other core apps and does seem to look a lot more polished. It's not "GMail" polished but still vastly more polished than anything else of it's previous iterations.
I think it all comes down to what your functionality wishlist is. HTC Mail had those bottom button that were for quick filtering navs which I didn't really care for. To me, HTC Mail was something that ran off the Android Mail engine just with UI and a few more functionality attached on top of it.
If anything, on ICS Mail, GAL seems very fast when autocompleting contact names, you can still zoom on HTML emails, and has a few more functionality than it did on the pre-ICS builds. Again, really depends on what made you like HTC Mail over the other.
Stock email is much better than htc's version of it and with the 720p screen it makes reading content much better.

Htc Sense alternatives?

Can you please suggest me an other launcher that can do all sense's sync abilities?
Because i want to flash no sense roms. But others' launchers can't sync contacts like sense... Example, sense contacts note the people's facebook or others ID numbers in google contacts list. Then when you flashed some other rom, it can completely renew all of your contacts basically.
I have already now syncing people like, facebook, Twitter, foursquare, Skype, tango, what'sup msg ext...
Is there any application that can do all basically?
(I hate to install any contacts application to change my own. I'm searching all in one roms)
Thank you for all...

What people tend to do is use the google sync to sync the contacts. For the rest you'll need to download the apps to sync the other services.
There are some apps that have several in one. For example imo messenger (not sure if it's that one) has msn, skype and several others.
What you could do is go into the market, search for facebook for example, and read the description of the other apps. Some of them will sync facebook and twitter.
Regarding the roms, there will be a seperate file to download called google apps which is for no sense roms. They are usually listed in the op.
Not sure if there is a single rom that does what you want. There is a reason it's a no sense rom.
Sent from a dream.
?
why is there so amny sesnse stuff?
if you want a rom that does it all for you , you should use a sense one and stay on it cz aosp roms you must do everything by yourself, its just pure android as google release it
Sense is hard to replace, now I'm using a custom ics rom, with standard launcher plus beautiful widget and pure messenger that are good apps but aren't free.

[Q] Set up my new ONE X, Introduce me.

New android One X owner. Had an iphone before and I'm a bit confused over certain things. I have done my homework.
I haven't found any appealing reasons to root the phone... But there's certain things I'd like to know to set up this phone!
One thing I am having trouble getting used to is that the space between the icons on droid is too big. Can it be fixed with or without root?
Is it possible to sort apps manually or into categories, i just find the A-Z/time sort choices.
Essential Apps, the best one for each own thing? Swiftkey 3 for keyboard, airdroid over ESfileexplorer, Avast for antivirus security(necessary?) Dropbox for cloud..
What softwares do you use to sync music, videos and other content. HTC Sync Manager or is there better?
Is there a page like idownloadblog that keeps you easily up to date, posts guides, apps, tweaks from both sides of the river. Official and pirate stuff.
MOD EDIT : As explained , we do not like warez on XDA
Asking a lot so help me with whatever you'd like I'll look aroound meanwhile Thanks,
u can find everything in here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps
Welcome to the Android world mate!
1. Try a custom launcher: for example Nova Launcher from play store. The problem might also be that you are used to the tiiiiny screen of your former i-device.
2. Launcher settings, don't know if it's possible on stock Sense launcher.
3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1938854
4. No knowledge on that area.
5. www.xda-developers.com (forget about the pirate stuff though)
6. No. At least you won't get any help here @XDA to find such site.
We have absolute zero tolerance on warez and other questionable content. You might get banned for requesting such things. If you have money to buy a 500€ piece of hardware, you must be able to afford a 1€ app. Right?
loved the nova launcher
i'm having a though luck finding a quick compose sms widget
gopro and handcent sucked, the things is , that i'd like is something like chomps sms (bitesms) quick compose but not in notification, on the home screen as a widget.
do you know any such widgets+
android is awesome, do not understand why appstore and cydia is so much more developed. cant even find a simple note taking app like writeroom..

Try Apex too.

Apex or Nova

It was all depends on your preferences.
What softwares do you use to sync music, videos and other content. HTC Sync Manager or is there better?
Since you come from iOS, try AirSync + Doubletwist player to sync your itunes playlist.

up to date, guides, tweaks, mods just look here in XDA. if you cant find them, you're not reading them enough. hehe.
