Hi all,
I own a T-Mobile G2. I finished permanently rooting it.
I have issues connecting it to my local carrier SIM (Airtel). I do not have the unlock codes.
*a) I want to know the procedure so that it works with any SIM card.
*b) does changing the radio help?
*c) Im willing to install Cyanogenmod ROM.. by doing so will be able to use any SIM card?

Did you run gfree? Or just flash the engineering bootloader (which should *NEVER* be done without first running gfree...)?
gfree unlocks *EVERYTHING*. If you ran it and it still doesn't work right, then there's something else going on that is unrelated to the phone.
i did use gfree...
Thanks for the responses.. I was able use my Phone. Thanks again
so just for reference s-off means the phone is sim unlocked I am guessing?

Not necessarily, but this will be the case most of the time. The default behavior of gfree is to turn S-OFF as well as SIM-Unlock and sets a universal CID. It would be possible to run gfree to turn S-OFF without SIM-Unlock but you would need to go out of your way to do so and I'm not sure why anyone would want to.
i used gfree too.
you can search on youtube, how to do it.

Yea I actually looked around the internet after I asked this question and found a way to verify what is actually open/unlocked and what not with a gfree verify thing through adb and yea it's all unlocked and what not the -f which they have you do unlock everything if you wanted it none simunlocked its more of a pain to do than just -f anyway thank you for the information.
Gfree method works
I used gfree in the past with mytouch 4g works great ,its to much of a pain to unlock things individualy. Where do I find gfree for g2 vision?
Gfree is the same for all devices that use it (Ace, Vision, Glacier)

its how i rooted my official rom so it should work and if you downgraded it should defo work with older bootloader versions
You'll need to use a goldcard root an orange branded desire, without it, the flash will fail.

Just look for a ROM that states 'no radio's in the title, that way it'll keep your current working radio.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
yes.
DO not upgrade radio unless your phone is unlocked.
All custom ROMs here on XDA do not contain radio's so you should be fine just flashing a new ROM after you have rooted. Changing the radio is a optional step if you are unlocked or not on Orange.
Hi guys,

You would still have 2.1 this is how i started;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
and then i just jumped to a cooked ROM
as for over the air im not actually too sure about that might be a matter of jkust flashing to the 2.2 when it eventually drops in like 2weeks - 2months
Thanks, DanTehManUK.
That was is a very useful link, thanks for being so helpful...
Its what we do
could you help me pleez! i am on a branded htc desire 2.2 with hboot 0.93.
i need to know how to create a goldcard for it. i also need to know how to root it to add custom roms. i have searched the forums but some say i cant create a goldcard for it and such so i am confused. all help would be appreciated as i am abit ov a noob, but understand some aspects.
Thanks in advance
theres no need to use the gold card method,.... try the unrevoked method its much easier and you will be rooted in ten minutes max
Could u kindly send me a link on what to do pleez? And how come it doesnt need a goldcard? :/ can u still add custom theme/rom if u dont? Thanks

have you been able to unlock your phone by rooting it?
Rooting doesn't SIM unlock the phone, you still need to get a code for that
I unlocked my phone in five minutes by ringing the phone company the phone was locked to.
You can use the app in the general forum to sim unlock the phone - no codes, no cost.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Use the desire sim unlock utility in the development thread. I've used it numerous times and it always works and it's free.

I have been scouring the threads for an easy solution to this problem and the only one I seem to find looks rather daunting. All I want is to sim unlock the phone so I can switch from Vodafone Australia to Optus. Is there any way without rooting your phone or using one of those dodgy sites to unlock the desire z so it can use other carrier sims? Is gfree the only way to do it? I would appreciate any help with this. Cheers.
you could ask your carrier? they would have the code but it may cost you

Hi !
You got 3 options:
1. Use gfree: If you want to only SIM-unlock the phone then you could use
Code:
gfree -S
instead of using the -f option that does SIM-unlock, SuperCID and S-OFF
2. Ask your carrier for the code
3. Buy one on the internet. If you are afraid of dodgy sites then use this one (mrcellphoneunlocker). It is definitely not the cheapest but the site is run by rhcp, one of the members of the #g2root channel.
In my opinion you should try to go the gfree way. If you follow the guide at the wiki http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD there is no risk involved.
Have fun - Guhl
I unlock my HTC Desire Z Sim ==>"sim network unlock pin"
using guhl99's option 1: gfree -S
follow the guide: HTC Vision
guhl99, thank you so much!!!
The gfree method is pretty simple. I did it myself after owning the phone for less then 2 hours.
Will that work on the G2 too? I know the Desire Z and the G2 is one identical phone, but since the rooting procedure is a bit different so I just wanted to make sure.
Thanks

Just follow the link guhl99 posted, and all the information should be there.
Is there anyway to sim unlock the phone for use in Europe from some modification or custom rom? im currently running senselessromeo 1.1 and really need to sim unlock it but am curious about unlock codes being from shady sources
I take it you used Visionary to root your phone since you are running a custom ROM.
Follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764 and it will walk you through how to gain SIM-Unlock as well as S-OFF to complete your administrative access to your phone. If you have not used ADB before, I suggest you take some time and take it slow. There is no quick fix for this.
What if you already have s-off?
Then just follow the steps to get SIM-Unlock. Even if you already have S-OFF, following the steps to get S-OFF in this guide results in SIM-Unlock if i remember correctly.
Getting S-OFF is like turning on a light, if the light is already on, it doesn't hurt to try to turn it on again.
alright thanks a bunch. really helped me out
Hello Everyone,
I have been looking up rooting my HTV EVO 4g and have realized I have Hboot 2.18
I have been searching and found the way to downgrade and root to get s-off but my question is that at this moment I was just wanting to do it to run GameCIH 2 to mess with a few games I have(have a lot of time on phone) but says i need root access. I understand HTVdev.com has the way to unlock the bootloader but it keeps s-on must i go through the multiple tutorials to achieve s-off to run this program? also if i do go through doing all this is there a way to bring it back to stock in case something happens to the phone i dont want to shell out a few hundred bucks for a new one.(i do understand there is always a chance at bricking it) anyway thanks again for any incite.

Just to clarify - with an unlocked bootloader and S-ON, you can still flash ROMs. Especially if you're already out of warranty, all you need to do is the HTCDev unlock process.
So S-ON just means you can't use PC36IMG.zip method for flashing recoveries, radios, etc., but fastboot, correct?

You can use the PC36IMG.zip method to flash a recovery, but the file has to be prepared specifically for it to work. As far as the other stuff goes, please see the post above this one .
