[Q] Very quick HELP! - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just done the procedure to take my DHD back to 2.2 (was 2.2.1 - How to downgrade to 1.32.405.6 WWE from 1.72+)... so i can use visionary. All seems to have gone well, but i'm now at the white boot loader screen, have options - fastboot, recovery, factory reset, simlock & image crc.
Which do i want??

Was the PD98IMG.zip in your SD? If your device did not recognize it, you can try full formatting your SD, and then go to the bootloader again. (remember to copy the PD98IMG.zip into the SD again after formatting)
You can exit the bootloader by going to fastboot, and then select reboot.

Yes, it saw it, appeared to load it no probs, now got these options.

Selected fastboot > reboot, but it's still 2.2.1 (build 1.72405.3), & everything's exactly as it was - apps, homescreen etc (thought i'd lose all this)

The idea is that your bootloader should recognize the file and start flashing it. Format your SD and try it again. You do not need to run the command line commands again.

On my sd card i have what was on it prior to starting the procedure.
Also, part17backup-1300734519.bin (generated by the command lines?) & the PD98IMG.zip file that i copied across manually.
When i start bootloader, without touching anything, it says -
HBOOT
SD check
Loading PD98DIAG.zip
No image
Loading PD98DIAG.nbh
No image or wrong image
Loading PD98IMG.zip
Which appears to go ok (blue progress bar top right)
Then
HBOOT
Checking PD98IMG.zip (yellow progress bar top right)
After that it just gives me the options i mentioned in my first post.
Do you still recommend formatting the sd card, copy across the PD98IMG.zip file, & try bootloader again?

Strange, i think i've found the problem...
The PD98IMG.zip flie i first downloaded was only 150MB (first development post), downloaded it again (link on the last post page) & this one's 300MB.
Just waiting for my sd card to format & i'll try again.

Yep, first download was bad.
Now all booted & rooted

nice to see you getting in a solution in your own thread! =o)
always check the hash, or at least the file size! =oP

MD5 sum check does wonders

[Q] Problem after last Update OTA

Hello all,
I have an unbranded desire (GSM), rooted with the latest unrevoked, and an official ROM.Today I have received a new update OTA… something with Android Market in size of 28.87 MB. I’ve tried to install but I have not succeeded. For more info about my phone see the attached pictures.
Now the details: I saw that the update was not working , so I decided to “force “ the install process using the install update.zip from clockwork mode (2.5.0.7) and toggle signature option (it was a message about some signature error). Everything looked fine, all the process and then a message tells me to restart. Since then a loop started: white screen with green letters for HTC logo and after that a restart. And again, and again…
I have a backup on sd card. But when I try to access, the recovery menu shows me a dark screen with a phone and a red triangle with “!” sign in it. I have also the official RUU but my computer refuses now to see my phone despite of a very good link between them. Two days ago I have installed the official RUU and the connection was ok. Maybe it is because my phone is not loading all of the starting process.
Help me please with some ideas, advices. Thank you.
You can't apply an OTA to a rooted Desire without issues - how many more poeple are going to do this before reading threads and realising this!!!
You'll have to hard reset and if that doesn't work flash a stock RUU and root again
PLease tell me how to hard reset or how to flash a stock RUU. please remember i can't connect to the computer because it's not loading all the starting process
You can either:
1. Download the 2.29.405.2 RUU from shipped-roms.com and flash it via FASTBOOT
or
2. Download the 2.29.405.2 PB99IMG from shipped-roms.com and flash it via HBOOT after renaming it PB99IMG.zip instead of the long file name I used, copying it to the root of your SD card and booting into HBOOT and following the instructions
Thank you very much for your quick answer.
But please be more specific
1. How to flash it via FASTBOOT?
2.Please give me step by step instructions on how to boot the zip file.
Sorry for being annoying. And sorry for my english
For RUU:
1. Download RUU from this link
http://www.multiupload.com/UOWLL86GVB
2. Turn off your phone
3. Turn it on again whilst holding the back button
4. Once the white screen with the 3 Androids at the bottom says FASTBOOT connect to PC with USB cable and it will change to say FASTBOOT USB
5. Run the RUU
6. All being good you'll be on stock 2.29.405.2
To flash the PB99IMG.zip:
1. Download the ZIP file from here:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip
2. Turn off phone
3. Remove SD card from phone and connect to PC using a card reader and a micro to normal adapter
4. Rename the ZIP file to PB99IMG.zip (not PB99IMG.zip.zip) and copy it to the root of your SD card (root = not in any folders)
5. Put SD card back in your phone
6. Turn it on whilst holding volume down
7. Follow instructions on the phone
8. Once done you should be on stock 2.29.405.2
BOTH OF THESE WILL NEED YOUR GOLD CARD TO COMPLETE
thanks. Starting now...
JOB DONE... SMOOTHLY
You do it by RUU OR PB99IMG btw - NOT both
JOB DONE SMOOTHLY. Thanks a lot.
No probs, keep the RUU or PB99IMG to hand in case you need them in future

[Q] Need help desperately! Evo stuck in boot loop. I've tried everything

I rooted my Evo a few months back. Everything worked fine for a while and then one day the phone restarted itself and never made it past the white evo boot screen.
Before saying anything else I've read through this forum and have tried many different steps to fix it.
I cannot access recovery through fastboot (it just boots to the white evo screen which it doesn't get past). I only have access to fastboot.
I have tried many times (and many different versions, stock, anon recovery etc.) loading a pc36img.zip onto the root of my sd card. It will go through the typical update process and when it finishes and I click reboot phone, it once again just gets stuck on the white evo screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have an SD card reader or a computer with a built in card reader, copy the contents of your SD card to a computer or external drive and then re-partition and re-format your SD card. Afterwards, copy a freshly downloaded version of amonRA v2.3 (the PC36IMG. zip) and the rom you'd like to flash. Turn off your device, pull the battery, wait one minute, re-attach the battery and then attempt to boot to the bootloader (Simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the Power button until your device starts). Hopefully, the bootloader will properly detect the PC36IMG.zip and prompt you to install. If it does, follow the prompts to install. Afterwards, select recovery, wipe EVERYTHING in the wipeenu EXCEPT the SD card and then flash the rom.

Have you tried to flash a new ROM?
Thanks for the quick reply! I followed your steps. Reformatted my sd card loaded the amonRA v2.3 and the new rom onto the card. Booted in bootloader and ran the update. When it finished it asked if I wanted to reboot my phone, I selected no and tried to boot into recovery....same results. It's still stuck at the white boot screen.
Any other suggestions?
When I got stuck in boot loops, I just stuck the darn phone in a bowl of fruit loops.. worked for me. #justkidding
Did you unchecked fastboot box
After you reformatted the SD you need to make sure the rom zip is not corrupted.redownload rom
What type of rom are you trying to install, did you are partition the sd card.
When you installed the amron 2.3 did you delete the zip from the SD card after install...
Oh boy, haven't seen this on awhile....
Good luck...
This doesn't always work but is based on the last step before I order customers a replacement for boot failure on the Evo. Try flashing the 3.70 update zip then reboot the phone. If the phone boots properly then run the 3.70 RUU (this step helps reduce the chance of corrupt files). This gives you a S-OFF, unrooted ROM config on your phone. let the phone boot into the stock ROM agin and then double check your firmware's and pri as they may need updating again. From here the firmware/recovery/ROM flashing guides should get you back to where you want to be.

Turn off your device and then boot into the bootloader. Look at the top and make sure you're still S-OFF. When the menu appears on the left side of the screen, select recovery. It should work. If it does not work, do the following:
1. Download this particular RUU (PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2 .15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.zip) from HERE

SHA-1 Checksum: F3725824147B54F4ED917CB025FB5F693B17782B
1A. I don't know what radios you are using so you need to download the following radios from HERE
EVO_Radio_2.15.00.11.19
EVO_PRI_1.90_003
EVO_NV_1.90_003
2. Create a directory named amonRA on your SD card and place the PC36IMG.zip file that's already on your card into that folder.
3. Now rename the above mentioned RUU to PC36IMG.zip and place it on the root of your SD card.
Just a quick note: I am assuming you have HBOOT 2.02/2.10. If so, proceed.
4. If you cannot get to recovery via the bootloader, you will have to use ADB. From a terminal window, type the below commands as-is.
adb shell (press enter)
reboot recovery (press enter)
5. Once in recovery, wipe everything in the wipe menu EXCEPT the SD card.
6. Flash the listed radios 1 by 1 in order
7. Shutdown your device and boot to the bootloader to flash the RUU.
NOTE: If you're successful in getting into recovery, you can opt to flash a different rom. It's your device and your choice.

[Q] another bricked phone thread; help needed

I've looked around for solutions as much as I could before posting
I've outlined everything I've done so far, not sure how much is relevant
Was running LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.1 before the phone became bricked
I rebooted the phone at one point, and the battery fell out during a reboot
Next time I rebooted it got to the ascii art android logo, onto a part with text on, and got stuck in a boot loop, the text had a progress part "so&so out of 2703kb" or something to that effect
(can't remember the text exactly)
After a few tries at rebooting it went to the home screen, however nothing loaded onto the home screen for 20 minutes, and the only function that worked was locking the screen, I couldn't turn it off or anything.
After this, everytime I booted it got stuck in a boot-loop on a splash screen of
"ANDROID" in silver writing
This is what I currently get when I boot my phone
When booted into recovery mode (hboot) I first get the message;
SD Checking...

After I get this message I am free to go into fastboot and recovery menu
The PC recognises the phone in fastboot (I'm running windows 7)
I tried reflashing the leedroid rom straight from the recovery menu, didn't affect anything at all.
Went on to reformat sd card entirely.
Tried updating to the latest ruu, as there was no ruu that was exactly the same as mine, my phone was originally on virgin mobile and there were no ruu's with the same baseband
RUU used; RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
But the update fails part way through (after it reboots the phone) and gives
ERROR 131: CID ERROR
Rom update utility cannot update your phone at this time
Please get the correct rom update utility and try again

if you can go into recovery, try reflash the zip file again and let it do its job. your hboot is not screwed so it shall restart with a new flash. recommending you download oxygen and save it on your sdcard. due to its fastest to load and most stable.
Just FYI: bootloop is not any kind of brick, and you're not bricked either.
Just do full wipe and reflash the ROM.
If you want to go back stock, you will need goldcard when running RUU.

Did you do Full Wipe/Factory reset & dalvik cache wipe before flashing new ROM?
Do you have any partitions on SD card?

I wiped both
Yes, I partitioned it as instructed in the stickied noob guide
4GB partioned to 1GB of Ext3, the rest is FAT32. The partition is still there.
Probably something went wrong when you was creating ext partition, what i suggest is downloading this recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=661317&stc=1&d=1311251519 (md5sum zip: 170785457774834c7ae58e331d6f4ab4)
Put it onto your sdcard (root of SD, not in any folders), rename it to "PB99IMG.zip" and boot into bootloader.
It should ask if you want to update, choose yes.
Partition your SD in new recovery, it will also perfectly align it, try to flash with this should be good.

Didn't ask if it wanted to update
Text said loading image, A progress bar automatically appeared on the right, after it was done loading, it said 'checking image' then just went straight back into the bootloader
Are you sure you renamed file to PB99IMG.zip ? You can also try to rename it to PB99IMG (without extension)

Yep, just double checked and tried a few more times, redownloaded and tried again just to be sure.
When renamed without extension the phone didn't find it, renamed with .zip extension the phone seemed to recognise it, but stopped after saying "checking image"

btw.
What did you used to partition your SD card?

I'm just trying to create a gold card now (didn't know about them until after I flashed)
I used Gparted
You can also try to repartition in the recovery you have right now, might help who knows.
I'm crossing my fingers for the repartitioning from current recovery mode to work
because I'm not entirely sure on how to create a goldcard without being able to boot my phone normally
*edit*
Yes, that did indeed work
seems the file structure got fudged up when the battery fell out for a reboot
such a simple solution that I overlooked at the beginning sorry
Thanks for all your help
Create goldcard and bring your phone back to stock with the ruu you already wanted to use. With three goldcard you won't get the cid error.
Run unrevoked again, but this time you use a custom recovery:
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.21/reflash_package.exe
I can highly recommend rmd recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137763
Download the zip, extract it and check the md5 of the image.
Standard amonra recovery:
www.android-hilfe.de/attachments/ro...-0-0-14-11-2010-recovery-ra-desire-v2.0.1.zip
Configure your phone correctly for using unrevoked.
Start unrevoked>file>custom recovery>choose the downloaded recovery image.
Run unrevoked.
If successfully done, go into recovery and flash custom rom.
The one k3lcior provided cannot be used as long as one is not s-on. So you cannot use it.
@k3lcior: Take care of this when you tell people to flash this recovery.

First things first: You need to install a custom recovery.
1. Download this file.
2. Put it on the root of your sd card (not inside any folders).
3. Rename it exactly to PC36IMG.zip (yes capitals, no NOT PC36IMG.zip.zip).
4. Boot into bootloader (with phone off, hold Power AND volume down buttons until you see white screen with android skateboarders at bottom).
5. Phone will scan, say yes to apply update, no to reboot.
6. Now select recovery.
In recovery:
1. Select USB-MS toggle.
2. Plug phone into computer.
3. Delete or rename PC36IMG to something else (so phone doesn't keep loading recovery).
4. You now have custom recovery.
Now if you wanna flash the radio, put that on your sd card, boot into recovery, select flash zip menu > choose zip from sdcard then pick your radio file. DO NOT pull the battery during the radio flash. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE. Just let it go no matter how much you think it is frozen. It will go through a few different screens and possible reboot. I forget, haven't flashed a radio in a while.
i tryed that and it did not work , when you first get to that white screen it trys finding a file then says

ok try this:
1. go to start > contol panel > appearance & personalization
2. click folder options
3. click the view tab
4. in advanced settings > files and folders, uncheck the box next to "hide extensions for known file types"
now go to the PC36IMG.zip on the pc and make sure it is not .zip.zip
if this isn't the problem then i'm out of suggestions....sorry

i did that and it was labled PC36IMG.zip.img i took away the img and it said "if you change this file extension it may not be usable" then when i tryed it it attempted to load an extra time but still did not work. i went into my recovery and it actually showed up this time under apply update frome sdcard as PC36IMG.zip i clicked on it it started to install then E: signiture verication failed installation aborted. maybe there is a exe way i can install a custom recovery .
am i doing somthing wrong?

OP, sounds like whatever file you downloaded is messed up. What exactly are you trying to flash?

Try this attached PC36IMG file instead (do not rename it). If it doesn't work, then you may have an issue with your SD card. Let us know what happened.
Also, forget about that recovery that you currently have. It is the stock recovery ("E:cant open /cache/recovery/command" that's for OTAs.) and is not going to help you at this point.

Trying to install a custom ROM

Hey,
Basically, I've got a HTC Wildfire with HBoot 1.0.0.2 - s-off was already disabled by stock.
I first of all tried to root with revolutionary, this attempt failed and it booted back up into a red triangle with an exclamation mark - pulled the battery out and all was fine again, booting into android. Realised later that this was due to being on 2.2.1
Then I tried rooting with Gingerbreak, it gave me a failed message and say it might just be the fact that it failed to restart - rebooted the phone and superuser was installed so it appears to have worked
ok so, installed custom rom manager and tried to install clockworkmod, it appears to have installed but when I click boot from clockworkmod it reboots and goes back into the red triangle?
any ideas to what might be going wrong, i think theres a problem with the clockworkmod installation
THANKS
Get a PC49IMG.Zip of a CWM Recovery version you want from here: (Point #6), place on SDCard, and reboot into HBoot. It will install CWM, then try selecting Recovery again in HBoot

I am assuming by "s-off was already disabled by stock" you mean you ARE S-OFF.
It says S-OFF on the top of HBoot, so I would presume that it was disabled from factory
I put the .zip on the SD card, and booted HBoot - it did it's scan for files at startup but did not find the zip on the sd card? does it have to be in a particular place on the SD (PC49IMG.ZIP)
It's saying not found or wrong image - Im trying to use ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.0 - Click here for PC49IMG ZIP and its on the root of the sd card
I hope you clicked the right part of the link. Clockworkmod v5.0.2.0 and Click here for PC49IMG ZIP link to two different files. Try downloading the right hand side file (Which is a file named PC49IMG.zip), place that on your sd card and try again.
It should not be in any folder / sub-folder on your sd. Just place it as it is.
