[Q] Restoration with mixed .img files. Is it possible? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I did 2 nandroid backups. 1st is the backup for Original Untouched ROM and 2nd one is backup just before flashing a new ROM.
I compared 2 backup files, strange enough, the 1st backup contains 7 files while the 2nd backup only contains 5 files.
1st backup:
.android_secure.img
boot.img
cache.img
data.img
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.img
and the second backup does not have:
boot.img and recovery.img.
I think this was why I didn't manage to restore to my previous ROM which was backup immediately before the flashing.
My question now is, can I copy the 2 missing files from the 1st backup to the 2nd backup folder and start restoring? (They were created on different dates and possibly, different version of ROM Manager)
Your kind advise is much appreciated.
Regards!

Missing recovery.img is not a problem once you flash custom recovery. Missing boot.img is a problem actually because it contains f.g. kernel. You can take boot.img from the custom ROM you flashed and put to the recovery package. That will work.

[Q] How to recover with 4ext?!

Hello!
I S-OFFed my phone and then I rooted it in order to try an ICS ROM. Everything went smooth. I put 4ext and then made a backup. Then I put the ICS ROM and now I want to revert back to my backup.
Sadly, I can't. I don't know why. Can any1 help?! All off the backup-ed files are in the folder: 2012-09-30.21.57.56_GRI40. The folder contains the following files:
.android_secure.yaffs2.img
boot.img
cache.yaffs2.img
data.yaffs2.img
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.yaffs2.img
There is no zip file and I dont know how to restore? The Restore function doesn't work, install from sdcard either (it searches for zip). What to do? Please, I want my backed up files!
4ext is ver 1.0.0.5 RC3. I have done full wipe before ICS ROM and before I tried restoring. Please, help!
PS: Or atleast give me link to read how to do it myself, I can't seem to find what I am looking for :/ This backup is really important for me!

create a folder on ur sdcard named-
clockworkmod
and put ur
2012-09-30.21.57.56_GRI40
backup file in the clockworkmod folder and then try restore in recovery
Sent from my HTC Desire
Just tried it - not working Still can't find any backup. 2012-09-30.21.57.56_GRI40 is not a file but a folder with many files in it. It is not a zip. Could that be a problem?
PS: OK, solved it!
First, to say - the phone stopped booting into OS - it went straight to HBOOT when I press the power button. So I made a new backup. Then I copied my update files instead of the ones I created last. Then using advanced restore, I restored everything one by one (without cache).
It worked
Thanks for the advice, jmcclue, it helped a lot!
Thank's

if you flashed Twrp twice, you probably ended getting a back up folder with each flash - if you have done a nandroid already, my guess is it will be in the file that is the most recently flashed one - you could probably delete the other one.

[Q] ClockworkMod Recovery questions

Hello,
I have a few questions about ClockworkMod Recovery.
When ClockworkMod Recovery creates backups, does it overwrite the previous backup or does it create a new one?
The name that that my backup had didn't follow any logical naming convention that I could recall. It is usually date/time or similar?
Is it possible to rename the backup to something more meaningful? I recently had to restore a backup when my phone was stuck on the samsung logo. If i have several backups, it could become potentially confusing.
Thank you in advance.

it creates a new file
it can't access the date and time so the filename isn't useful
you can use rom toolbox to create a backup with a specific name (it will boot to recovery, run the backup for the specified name and then reboot back to system) or run the normal backup in recovery and rename the backup file with a file explorer (ES or Root Explorer to name a few) after the backup and subsequent boot back to the system (just don't put spaces in the name)
Hope that helps

[Q] How to restore backup nandroid upload as zip from Clockworkmod?

Hi,
Yesterday I made a new nandroid backup and uploaded it using clockworkmod, which created an zip file, my problem is, how upload it to android to restore again using clockworkmod?
Thanks in advanced
There should be an option to restore and let you choose the backup under "Backup and Restore" in recovery.

You made a nandroid while in custom recovery right ? The confusing part is you say then you uploaded it . If its on your phone then it should be in your clockworkmod backup directory .

The problem was, I made an nandroid backup and uploaded it to my computer, and to save space deleted from my GNex. I installed a new rom (4.4) and because I didn't like it wanted to return to my backup. I couldn't find a way to upload it to my GNex using Rom Manager/Clockworkmod Recovery, then I tried to copy to "sdcard" then to /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup, but using root explorer applications I couldn't, finally I used an terminal application to move/copy using comand lines as su/sudo (can't remember which), after this I finally restore the backup.
What's strange is, with Rom Manager I can upload the backup to my computer using http://192.168.43.1:4000, has an zip file, but to restore from my computer to GNex there isnt any option, either to extract the folder with date and time to the correct folder, in this case /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup.
that sound like u already wipe data partition.. just make any fake flash zip to mount up the partition.
then restore the recovery from your sd (if any)..
or can push that recovery data...
1. using correct path - /data/media/0/twrp/backup/folder_name.. or any ( can found this path in nandroid recovery log)

How to restore EFS backup in IMG file format?

Hi, I just flashed AICP and found that the VoLTE is missing. I've an EFS partition backup taken with TWRP earlier. But that file is an IMG file. When I try to restore that IMG file using TWRP it asks for the correct partition to restore. All I can see are:
Boot
Recovery
System image
Vendor image
Firmware (image)
Splash
Could someone please say to which partition should I restore it?

Nope, the file name is efs_backup.img . How to restore it?
Could someone please help? I found tutorials only to backup EFS partition using TWRP. Didn't find any for restoration. At least someone please post the link to it? Googling didn't give any results.
I've already asked this on XDA before, but no one replied me. Here's the link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...te-problems-custom-roms-t3744291/post77703907
If the EFS in IMG file format can't be restored then what's the point of backing up the EFS using TWRP? I always QPST the ZUI ROM whenever I switch to a different ROM. This time I don't have my PC with me, that's why I'm asking this. If we can't restore this using TWRP then at least please confirm it. Then I will wait until I get my PC.

Efs Backup created through twrp contains .win format and you can recover only if it's in that format. Or if you are damn sure that you have created backup through twrp then find that version of twrp and then try to restore.
You dont have to flash the file, you have to restore it using twrp
Make a backup of your current efs through twrp
You will find it in the internal memory in twrp folder
Go into the folder, keep going in till you find the img file of your current backup, replace it with the previous backup.
Then boot into twrp md go into restore, you will find the option to restore the efs partition
