Hi
I'm after a ROM which works with PSX4Droid but does not have Sense UI built in.
So far I've tried Gingervillain and Redux but both wouldn't let me load any game ROMS and simply turned the screen black for a few seconds then returned to the select screen if I tried to load a game.
Thanks
The problem is more likely the game your trying to play, most don't work
There's a list somewhere of what games do.
No it definately works as I was using it with the stock sense ui. I had installed on my phone before I reflashed.
I can confirm... I can currently run PSX4Droid games (Final Fantasy 7) from StarBurst rom, which is basically a stock sense rom with Data2sd
Brilliant I'll give that a go, thanks for that. I'm wanting it to work with Resident Evil 3, do you know if it works with that?
Unfortunately the Wiimote controller app didn't work with StarBurst as its running HTC Sense.
But the good news is I've managed to work out why I couldn't get the PSX4Droid working with the other ROMs i'd tried (Ginger Villain & Redux). Namely because they are all based on Gingerbread and PSX4Droid doesn't seem to work on it.
In the end I looked for a ROM which was running Froyo and didn't have Sense UI installed, Defrost fitted the bill perfectly. After a bit of messing around and key mapping I now have a fully working Datel Wifi Classic Wiimote working on PSX4Droid, awesome!
Here's the Datel Classic Wiimote if anyones interested:

I've been using fpse for a day or 2, its working on gingerbread and runs smoother than psx4droid.

Could someone explain to me what I need to do to get one of these to work on my evo. Do I need to be rooted? I currently am through unrevoked.
Which controller is the best one to get?
A type of wireless Wii remote?
Thanks for any and all help.
Download "Wiimote Controller" from the Market and follow the instructions.

Does it work with the Sense UI on my evo? The developers website said it doesn't work on all sense devices
Thanks again.
Also, will one of those Wii retro controllers work on this?
You need CM6
The Evo in it's stock state doesn't support any of the Wiimote apps in the market. I tried several Roms that don't use sense, and none of them would pair the Wii remote. The reason is that it is not Sense alone that causes the problem. The problem is that HTC changes the bluetooth stack when they put sense on the phone. Removing sense doesn't fix the stack.
The only rom currently out for the Evo that fixes this is Cyanogen 6 mod. He actually re-programmed the bluetooth stack. He has a release candidate which I have been using for a while now. I was even using his nightly builds and it's a very solid and stable rom. I haven't used the PSX Emulator, but I have been using Snesoid, and I love it. I got a Wii remote, and a classic controller from best buy, $60 total, and it was so worth it. With the classic emulators like Snesoid, you can actually map the keys for 2 controllers. Meaning you and a buddy can play Super Mario Kart, one using the Wii Remote, and the other using the classic controller plugged into it.
The other great thing about the CM6 rom is that Cyanogen is working on getting the HDMI out to clone everything from the phone over the HDMI port. This means that you can sit on the couch with your Wii remote and the classic controller pro, and using psx4droid you can play all the classics on the big screen.
The downside is the CM6 rom disables 4G, FM radio, and has had some issues with facebook contacts. Once you get this rom on, it should be pretty easy from there.
Thanks a lot, Bradley.
A few more questions...
It sounds like if I want to use a retro controller I have to connect a regular wii controller first and then plug the retro into the regular? Or can I connect the retro by itself without a regular controller?
Does Cyanogen have a site or blog where he can be followed? I'd like to get that Rom once he gets 4G working... and the HDMI-out; that sounds awesome. (On that note, do you know if I can flash that CM6 rom having rooted with Unrevoked? Do you know where I could find a step-by-step guide to help install it? (I'm searching the forums right now.))
What format do these things need to be in?
Awesome tutorial for .ecm roms

So my mission was to get the Datel Classic Wifi Wiimote working on the HTC Desire. I quickly realised I'd have to root my phone and switch to a custom ROM as Wiimote controller doesn't work with HTC Sense.
After doing this I tried out a few ROMs but I couldn't get the PSX4Droid working with them (Ginger Villain & Redux).
I had an incline it was because they were based on Gingerbread. So I decided to try a Froyo ROM wbuch didn't have Sense UI, I decided to go for Defrost. After a bit of messing around and key mapping I now have a fully working Datel Wifi Classic Wiimote working on PSX4Droid, awesome!

Sorry if this has been posted in this section, I couldn't find it and neither could the "Here are the similar threads we found:" dohicky.
After playing a few games today on a friends SGS and being blown away by the "playability" of said games I took to the Gameloft website to get me some.
After buying Eternal Legacy and Dragon Hunter 2 I found I had to update the games over wifi to play, bummer.
Home from work to find that after updating over wifi both the apps force close
without even giving a reason.
My friends' got standard kies froyo, I however have gingerbread, could this be the reason for the FC would anyone know?
Any simple way to fix? Long shot I know but who knows when gameloft will get back to me....
Thanks for any ideas
I had this issue too, but i guess we will have to wait for an update from the game creators...
Gameloft games working fine for me, even with Gingerbread (XWJVB)! Playing Starfront, Eternal Legacy and Dungeon Hunter 2!
Asphalt 6 worked for me but was terribly laggy and would occasionally lock up the phone, gone back to froyo for now..

Games on JVB don't work for me smoother comparing to froyo. The best example is exactly Asphalt. Lags, not much fps... just crap.
In Neocore I've got same result as I have on froyo, but in Quadrant Advanced the 3d graphics bar is a bit shorter... Drivers, hm? Don't know, but froyo is better for games atm. Although I stay on 2.3.3 for now.
samehere.. dungeon hunter worked fine on froyo but after updating to gingerbread got prob on D2H now..
You see this brings me to a question I was literally going to look up this second.
Darkys and multiple other roms list their roms as "3D fixed", I guess this might address some of the issues some are experiencing. I just dumped Darkys in favour of a Doc Kitchen JVB and was wondering if there is a CWM mod that'll fix the 3D? Or a kernel? Since mine is still DarkCore 2.2 since it didn't overwrite it with the Fugu I chose in the kitchen...
Anyone care to weigh in.
I have a rather weird experience with Asphalt 6. My standard ROM is Debus G1, rfs with the default kernel. Asphalt was working decently, just until I flashed a TW4 mod. After that, it will crash when I hit the "career" button. On the other hand, HAWX is working flawlessly no matter what. Any thoughts?
Edit: even weirder, disabled the SGS2 lwp and Asphalt stopped crashing! I smell memory issues..
Anyone tried any Gameloft games on JVH yet?
GB sucks up a hell lot of RAM in comparison to 2.2.1. I wouldn't be surprised if the freezes are caused by a lack of memory.
Gingerbread + Gameloft HD Games = kissing hugging ***king ))
on ginger jvh lagfixed, gameloft hd games are working.. asphalt 6 is working for me better that with froyo with lagfix
I know this is a very subjective question, but I would like some input on which ROM you guys think is best for the "oid" emulators on this device? I imagine it to be something based on Gingerbread, with as little bloat so perhaps AOSP or CM7? Or is the stock experience fine for this use?
Many thanks!

If you just use emulators you can also try an ics rom.
Sorry for my bad English. It's not my native language.
on ics (if you find a smooth ics rom, that is) emulators should work fine. also on ics n64oid has analog support (which on gingerbread only mupen64plus has), and it's overall better than mupen64plus on gingerbread in speed and it runs animal forest quite well; dunno for the rest though. on the psx front, fpse has analog support on ics, while on gingerbread only psxperia gives you analog support on psx games and of course there are not many analog controlled games supported by psxperia (soul reaver and mgs don't work, for example).
the other 100% digital controlled emulators should be exactly the same as on gingerbread. thing is, i tried what seems to be the best ics rom to date and it was quite laggy. maybe you'll find a good one for you, as you don't need good gamepad compatibility on android games.
either way, this device is the absolute best mobile emulating machine. even on gingerbread you don't really lose anything. there are just a handful of analog controlled psx games which are not supported by psxperia/mupen64plus, and they play perfectly with the dpad on fpse/n64oid.
therefore, your choice. if you really care about analog control on games you can't play as you wish on gingerbread, look for a smooth ics rom. if you don't care, i suggest trueancestor 2.3.7, as it gives you so much free memory.
Ok thanks ill check it out.

Hi,
I'm only play retro games in my xperia play too. That's the reason why I bought one... At this moment I'm using CM9 RC2, an ICS rom, and the emulators run well.... I'm playing zelda ocarina of time with the lastest n64oid version, touchpads works nice.... very similar as the joystick... Link can run and walk :victory: things you couldn't do with the D-pads.
The snes emulator that works in the ICS roms is, SNESDroid... the SNesoid didn't worked
Other emulators that worked:
GB color: GBCoid
GBA: GameBoid (you need a bios, tell me if you don't have one :highfive
NES: Nesoid
Hope this help you.
Cheers :good:
I suggest True Ancestor ROM too, always free RAM and bloatware removed. It offers great performance in N64oid compared with others ROM's, the mainly reason I use my Xperia Play

I got better performance using N64oid on a ICS ROM (AOKP to be more specfic) and the touchpads work great..
i.e. yoshi's story was skipping on True Ancestor, but ran flawless on AOKP.
EDIT:
The emu's I'm using (has worked for every game i have thrown at each of them)
FPSE - PSX -touchpads on ICS
GBA.emu - GBA
GBC.emu - GBC
MD.emu - MegaDrive
N64oid - N64 -touchpads on ICS
NES.emu - NES
Snes9x EX - SNES
All work with xplay controls on AOKP

Interesting, I quite like aokp too. Are there any features that don't work on ics roms on this device? Things like FM radio don't bother me, but for example data would be needed .

My experience on CM9 was that the OS was smoother than the stock Gingerbread but the emulator's performance was not as good. I could not have full speed with frameskip 0 on Snesoid or Gameboid and a clean sound at the same time. Plus the screen was all pixelized. Maybe AOKP performs better than CM9 ?
Now I'm on CM7, it is fast, there is plenty of free internal memory but I have those issues:
- bad battery life
- no proximity sensor
- some games don't work with the touchpads
I'm wondering if I should try TrueAncestor.
I think you should. There are always psxperia and mupen64plus for touchpads. At least they work with the majority of games that absolutely need touchpads
You can always install cupcake on your phone and get the "retro" games from the android market
Everytime I play on an emulator such as N64oid or SNESdroid, my fps drops drastically if i touch the gamepad keys at all. Unfortunately, I use my C pad on the right gamepad, and it does work, but it lags badly. When I tried to play Modern Combat 4, I noticed the same issue was there. I could not play because the gamepad I use to move my guy around was lagging. Is there any fix to this?
I am using LuPuSKernel JB v8 with JB 4.1.2

yep ive seen the same thing on every JB rom. If im not correct the reason is because the touchpad drivers are not offically for JB and have been back ported not compiled form JB source. currently unfix able.

I'm having trouble finding a decent rom for gaming that supports the touchpads without lag. What roms will work? This problem is slightly annoying since it makes it impossible to play Modern Combat and a lot of other games...
well the best answer is always Gingerbread rom with a bit of overclock of necessary, everything works there. just look for a 2.3.7 version rom.
