Is it necessary to wipe battery stats every time I put in a fresh battery? If so, why? Thanks in advance.

Well it helps, because it'll help it charge more accurately.

Ok! That makes sense. Thank you.
I wont forget to hit the thanks button once I get to my PC. We need the "Thanks" button within the XDA app.

Wiping battery stats will do more harm than good if you don't properly calibrate the battery. Let it charge fully, wipe stats, let it drain completely and then do a full charge again. Otherwise, your battery might die super quickly.
Although I'm honestly not too sure on how different batteries are effected, which is something I should probably look into before I get mine in the mail.

Same here... and to OP I just got new 1800mAh batteries and im going through the charge cycles... no real issue with battery life... its lasting approximately good 20+ hours [with HEAVY use]
You really only want to wipe stats if/when flashing new ROMs

no wipe necessary if using sbc kernels, apparently its placebo anyways but to each their own

So is it safe to say only wipe stats when putting a fully charged battery?
Thanks.

I can tell you i've done this and havn't noticed any difference in battery change. I use skyraider 2.5.2 and KK #3 kernel. Bump Charge and work gets me well through the day with moderate use.
I've done this a few times too and haven't it do anything.
ive noticed a change when i charged fully while the phone was on and the light turned green then just rebooted in recovery and wiping battery stats i do it every time i flash a new kernel i mean my opinion i have noticed better battery life doing this process
Can I do advanced nandroid n just restore battery stats
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I dont think you can backup or restore battery stats.
Either way, you really didnt have to ask this question. Just boot into recovery, select advanced restore, and see if there is an option to restore battery stats.
I don't think there is a way to restore battery stats, and you'd be better off just re-wiping to calibrate it.
Lol thanks for the replies I'm having terrible battery life with cyanogen 7.0.3.1 on my two extended batteries. When with stock rom and/or myn warm 2.2 I would get 2 days moderate/heavy use on cyanogen I only get like 8-10 hours....

Yea, you need to calibrate them. Charge it to 100%, wipe battery stats, then let it completely die, then charge back to 100%, use normally, and it should be bettery. I can get 1day and 7hrs on stock battery on CM7 nightly 76.
I've noticed since rooting I have worse battery life...also reception is not as good
Stock recovery
Stock rom and kernel

Granting applications Root access does absolutely nothing to effect your reception or your battery. Notice the Big period
Installing apps that constantly run in the background, will kill your battery.

That's why I'm so confused by it. Root explorer is the only app I've installed since rooting. Everything else is the same

You gotta get a ROM. You will find that they are improved with more battery life than stock. And Jangst is absolutely right. Rooting.will have no affect on your battery life other than your display being up so bright.or running applications in background.

I feel ya there. I'm the same way. I am using the deodex stock rom from Bubby though. Just in case I want to do stuff later on.
I also tried different kernels and am now back with the stock one. I got worse battery with non stock kernels. People will say otherwise, but I use my phone the same daily, and I can easily tell.
"Omg 28 hours battery on one charge" <- Nope, ain't happening if you actually use your phone like I do....

Which root method did you use?
You may have inadvertently screwed up the battery stats while rooting!
So you may need to recalibrate the battery.
I resisted rooting for the 1st two weeks and I can say I definitely get better battery like with Juggernaut and Bullet.
So give this a try.
Here ya go
Try charging to 100% then
Shut off, Pull battery for about 1 minute, replace, and charge to 100% and with the charger still plugged in
Boot to recovery
Wipe cache partition, then in advance wipe Dalvik and wipe Battery Status
Reboot after 5 to 10 min, unplug the charger and reboot
Or before Flashing a ROM or Kernel
My personal theory is that flashing on something other than 100% full battery screws up the calibration! So,,
Charge to 100% before Flashing
Then only wipe Wipe cache partition, then in advance wipe Dalvik and DO NOT wipe Battery Status
Works for me
If you don't have recovery!
Try charging to 100% then
Shut off, Pull battery for about 1 minute, replace, and charge to 100% and with the charger still plugged in
Reboot and try the following posted by explodingboy70
Calibrate your battery!
- There seems to be a safety feature in Gingerbread or Samsung's version of Gingerbread that causes the battery to start draining when it reaches 100%. That said to calibrate your battery properly you must do it as soon as the battery full pop up appears.
- Download the app found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1024867 and follow the on screen instructions.

You should give the custom kernels at least a week to set in. I didn't get amazing battery until like 5-6 days after I flashed bullet kernel. I'm on stock rom as well....

Might be a coincidence but tmpbile might be messing with the towers in your area which gives u bad low reception. Low reception = fastest way to kill battery

Hi guys, I tried searching through the forums to find the answer and didn't get far... I am currently running Calk's ROM v 2.6 with Rogue recovery and EL13 modem and I feel like my battery dies way faster than most other ROMS. I noticed that Rogue recovery will let you wipe battery stats, and was wondering if I can some how try to re-calibrate my battery or if there is anything that I can do to improve the battery life on this ROM. I noticed that there are some zips that I can flash on the same thread of where I got the ROM, will that work with v 2.6? Sorry I'm some what of a noob, all I know is how to flash ROMS and bring my phone back to stock. Thank you guys in advanced!

I'm using the full version of the ROM btw. I believe I'm on EL13 kernel as well...

Hello, ive asked the same question lol so Ill pass my knowlege along. From what ive learned, if youre using rouge recovery there should be an option that says wipe battery stats under wipe, but you shouldnt do that first. In order to do a full battery callibration, you need first charge your phone to as close to 100% as possible, which means you need to charge it fully while its on, turn it off and charge until it says fully charged then turn it on and charge it again.. This process shouldnt take over ten minutes after it charges the first time. im not sure why you do this but I think its too ensure it fully charges. Once you do that.. Go into recovery mode and go to wipe/wipe battery stats, reboot and make sure to leave it off the charger until it dies completely, use as normal, then charge fully without interruption. Then youre done.. Hope this helped brah

There is a battery calibration app in the market as well. Plus you need at least two full discharge cycles with a new rom/kernel to really start gauging anything...
Thank you, thank you! I'm going to give it a try... I will post again with my findings.... Oh, btw I flashed the 100mv undervolt zip that Calk posted as well and it seems to drain a little slower...

I notice in the CWM recovery menu under advanced there is an option wipe battery stats. Is it recommended to wipe battery stats upon new rom/kernel flash?
I never done it before, but last night i was on the play store looking at battery calibration apps, reading the description, and basically what they do is wipe battery stats so the old stats from the old rom/kernel don't stay.
Do you guys do it? Thanks!

I don't wipe stats because is an extra step and don't find it useful at all

yes i know it does not improve battery life... but what is the point of battery calibration then? because that's all it does, is delete the old battery stats the older rom/kernel had...
true on the extra step part, but it takes no 20 seconds at most.
your phone automatically wipes batterystats.bin every time you unplug the phone from the charger. "battery calibration" is not only a myth, its a waste of time and does absolutely nothing beneficial for battery life
Yes it does... it makes them bad, that they've been before!
