Why are all my apps always displayed? On 2.2 you had a show all apps button and I could choose to not have apps displayed on my home screens. Can I change 2.3 to work like that? Also what's up with the widget creation. When you press and hold instead of going to a clean selection screen you get this jumbled list of everything I have on my phone and its a pain to sort through. Is this by design or am I doing something wrong. Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you just had some folders before. Create a folder, move your apps into them. If I am incorrect about this, I apologize.
Yea I ended up just making a folder to put all of them in. It's still not as clean as any of the 2.2s but it will work for now.

I've been wondering for awhile now why out of all the programs for the dash why there isn't one out there for reordering the entire start menu. I know jeyo personalizer can reorder the first 7 but come on, they have everything else except for this that I'm aware of. Anyone know of a program that can do this? If not maybe someone on here would be up to the challenge. Just a thought i know I'm not capable of doing it but wanted to throw it out there.

reordering so that its not alphabetical? is that what you mean? Or just moving the wm standard stuff from the first page or 2, so that you can have your fave apps up front?
Easiest way is renaming the items in windows\start menu. The system ones that are listed first should be renamed so that they will move out of the way, and then rename the ones you want to be first so that they show up on first page. Here's a screenshot of my first page after the recent programs page. The screen shot shows a "!" infront of the names but a simple space will make them move to the front of the line instead of "!"
Thats a good idea thanks! Yeah i was basically trying to reorder the whole thing based on my most used programs on down. I use the list menu option.
Hi every1.
I have been searching these forums and many others for a couple of hours now and I still can't find what i'm looking for. Important to note is that I am very new to all that has to do with android in general.
I was wondering if there is any application that lets me change my dock (similar to launcher pro with the ability to scroll sideway) so I can add not just icons but also folders there.
Maybe there is a way for launcher pro to make me add folders already, in that case I would like to know how. My Galaxy S is rooted but I would rather not try and mix with system files since I dont know much about such things. (if it's not very simple or well explained)
My other question is why I can't find widget locker on the android market? I tried finding it through a site called appbrain with the barcode scanner application, but that didn't help either.
Would appriciate any kind of help, i'm really at a loss here...

If I have made myself unclear in some way please let me know, I would really appriciate any kind of help guys/gals =/
So you basically want shortcuts to folders in the dock at the bottom?
I do this by using "Apps Organizer" to organise my folders then while in launcherpro and then selecting the Apps Organizer shortcut in the dock and choosing the folder I want!
oh, so thats how it's done =P Thanks a bunch NorcoFox
That's ok, glad I could help!
Nice hint, but I would raise call
AppsOrganizer / FolderOrganizer create folders on the homescreens, together with widgets and other icons. Let's say on the "active" layer of SGS
I guess the original Tsukimiya's intent would be (well, mine IS) to have such folders/categories in the APP-DRAWER (the all together app layer, in the above notation) instead.
This would let us to categoriza ANY app in different folders. Their original icon/link, not only a copy.... Let's say just like iphone does, on its unique layer
This way I could prevent duplicating icons and forgetting newly installed apps, messed up among such alphabetic list launcherpro or adw realize.
Or, worst case, keep aligned touchwiz app-drawer pages too
Any hint existing on market ?
Till now, I only found TagHome Launcher, but it's a complete home replacement and it isn't at the quoted best-of-breed level, unfortunately
Thanks a lot
Yeah this is something I would be very interested in!
My friend was going through my app drawer and said can't you have folders to sort all of these out?

Hi,
I've got CM6.1.1 on my Desire and recently I gave it to someone to look at. Somehow they managed to change one of the apps on the bottom startbar. I did ask him what he did and he says he was just dragging a icon around on the screen and it "ended up" there.
I'm not certain what the usual names are for theses apps. The App Explorer I'm refering to was 4 small grey squares in a larger square. Hit it and get the apps installed on the phone.
It used to have:
Phone App Explorer WEB
It now has:
Phone "an icon for a app that's not installed" WEB
SO my question if how do I get App Explorer back ??
I've had a look and can't seem to find it either on the phone "root explorer" or a menu option. I might just be looking in the wrong place ofcourse.
I hope you can help, I'd prefer not to reinstall CM6.1.1 as I don't have a very recent Nandroid Backup
Many thanks in advance.

Ur problems seems a bit confusing for me...I undesrtood tha u lost a shourtcut on the bottom taskbar..is it? If that the problem, the solution is very simple..just drag there the app u want
Okies, Sorry for the bad explanation.
I've included a jpg of the issue I have. It's the middle icon I cannot get the "App Drawer" back.
In the interim Ive assigned it to a swipe down action but would ideally like it back in the middle.
I've looked numerous times on the CM and ADWLauncher menu options but can't find anything that'll fix it.
I've reinstalled CM6.1.1 (after a Nandroid backup of the old system) and the issue is still there :-((
I cannot find the App Drawer to be able to drag it back.
Any ideas ?
well, now that my issue (for now) seems to be over with the previous rooting nightmare ( see other post called major problem), i once again have the phone re-rooted and dark fyre themed and so far, so good..
so i was in the store the other day, was messing with the phone, and this guy walks up and asks if it was a phone or a tablet hehe....to make a long story short, i just told him it was a rooted phone, blahh blahh blahh....then he went on to ask if i had removed "the background factory installed proggies" to which i had no clue as to what he meant. he said something about since phone is rooted, im supposed to be able to remove all kinds of nuisance stuff and unwanted programs and all that, move icons around, change icons, etc....BUT... i don't seem to be able to do that..
so i began thinking---so what can i do with this phone other than make it look pretty? how do i remove whatever background stuff he was referring to? what else can i do with this thing?
whenever i do try to remove a program in applications/manage applications, the ones i want to uninstall are greyed out and some of them i cant even force close...shouldn't i be able to remove whatever i want whenever?
and on the home screen ,the static icons on the bottom--phone, messages, email, applications---could those be moved/changed?
i did try to find a thread with what all you can do with a rooted phone besides wireless tether, etc...to no avail...
would appreciate if someone can enlighten me and point me in the right direction
I think the guy was referring to removing the bloatware that comes on the factory (Sprint TV, Sprint Music, etc... bunch of apps). There is a couple ways to get rid of that stuff if you wish to.
1) If you see a custom ROM you want to install, many of those are debloated, so you can just find a ROM you like (Look at Blazer ROM if you like the dark fire theme, he has a version compatible with his ROM[post 4 of his ROM thread]) and flash it.
2) There is a debloating tool available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438144
If you decide to do any of the above, please research it completely so that you know what you're doing and do it properly.
Regarding the icons in the dock (at the bottom), yes you can change the icons in there, and re arrange them. Follow the steps below.
1) Go into your app drawer
2) Press the menu capacitive button
3) Press edit (You may have to switch to customizeable grid to do this)
4) Once in edit mode, pick the application you want in the dock, and drag it directly over top the one you wish to remove.
5) Press and hold the icons and drag them left and right to re arrange as you wish.
6) Once you're done, press the back capacitive button and it'll save/exit edit mode.
Other features of rooting include ability to use root only apps, such as Titanium backup, wifi teather, etc. I'm sure a quick google search on "benefits of rooting an android phone" will provide you some good examples on other things I haven't mentioned.

Since I'm a noob to this mostly, I can confirm that in order to customize a lot more stuff, you can use a custom launcher (ADW, Launcher Pro, GO Launcher) and a custom lockscreen app (WidgetLocker, maybe others I'm not aware of). As for the pre-installed "proggies," from what I've read it sounds like your best best is to use Titanium Backup and uninstall apps that way. Back them up first, that way if the phone becomes all screwy with it gone, you can just install it back on.
yes you ccan change the icons. open your app drawer push the menu button. click edit. it will tell you you have to switch view. switch. drag and drop the app you want over the app you don't want on the bar at the bottom. you cannot move or replace application drawer. don't forget to switch view back. I use titanium backup to remove all the bloat crap sprint puts on.
So, my old phone's screen died. As it happens, I still have access to it via a HDMI out, but I just wanted to migrate all the Nova stuff straight across to my new phone.
But I've customised Everything.
The backup-restore process tried to bring across as much as possible, but I'm beginning to think that, for my level of customisation, maybe I should see if I can edit the backup file by hand before I restore it (hear me out).
My problems with restore:
1. Nova Prime. The first app link the restore should launch is to prompt the user to reinstall Prime. Took me a while to realise why a bunch of things weren't working the way I used to enjoy.
2. Wallpaper. You could argue this is not a launcher setting, but even if it was an option to dump the image into the backup file (is it an archive?), it would make migration smoother. Not a biggie though, and the o/s should let you sort it yourself, providing you can locate the original image of course.
2. Apps not present. So you just restored the Nova backup to a new phone and a bunch of icons don't work. But wait: the ghost-icon launches straight to an app store search for them - excellent! Love this. Except for those 5% of apps that you hunted down APKs and side-loaded. Okay, this issue is a bit niche and probably belongs in a backup app that saves APKs rather than Nova. Fair enough. If new-Nova could talk to old-Nova, it'd be a cool migration feature though.
3. Icon pack stuff. I've replaced all my icons using an icon pack + no labels. Searching icon packs and selecting the perfect icon takes time, so I appreciate that the restored ghost icons "just work" once the matching app is installed. A bunch of icons didn't appear though: I think these were widget-like shortcuts, maybe? E.g. my new device's 'phone' app wasn't recognised as the same one as my old one, so all those contact shortcuts had to be remade (cue icon pack searching again). Using Nate Wren's "The Grid" (presuming I shouldn't just dump the Play URL here; search for it if you're interested), there are so many icons but no reliable way to find an exact icon (is there a hidden icon title name I can search for somehow?). Reinstating icons would be easier if custom icons could be more identifiable somehow. Could I read the backup file and/or tune it by hand, perhaps?
Might write a few more items later. Cheers for any ideas or explanations that might help.
