The best I can describe it is when opening a text from the notification bar it brings me to the top of the SMS thread, which can be quite long sometimes and the only way around it is to back out and re-enter the thread to get to the most recent message.
I love how smooth this phone runs, I can deal when resource heavy applications freeze for a bit or have bugs. However when simple phone based applications do things like this I kind of twinge.
Any help on either what does this or how to fix it?
Is this stock? Never had that issue? Maybe try deleting some or all your txts? I know the stock app gets flaky when you have a ton of messages on your phone
sent from a phone
i get that same thing when i have 200+ messages in a thread. its somewhat annoying.
It's happened with stock and in skyraider now
Easy trick that works for new when that happens: hold menu so the keyboard pops up, bringing you to the text field at the bottom.

I have not run into this problem since I have been using Handcent for SMS.
have this same issue, and this is with stock 2.2 from big V.
one thing i've found to get around it though is backing out of the thread and then re-entering will put you at the end normally and also if your typing and bounce between the 159 and 161 character count, not tapping back and just changing orientation a few times will set it straight again and you can continue editing the message.
Will say, i've got threads that are 2k messages long and even then its a hit or miss thing to the point where i cant get it to happen right when i'm in front of a big V tech. :/
i get that occasionaly and i get a glitch where even if i click on the sms notification it still shows it in the bar.

My new Touch Pro 2 has been giving me a problem since I got it, it's been resending messages to (as far as I know) everyone I've sent one to everytime I turn it off. The phone seems to hang pretty often and so I turn it off and back on (when it's not so bad that I have to do a battery pull). Everytime I turn my phone off and back on I get a message from about 4 different people saying "what?" because the phone seems to send some random message that I've sent to them before, but it's way out of place in the current conversation. I did a slight search on google and here and didn't see anything matching this, just about messages sending whenever, but mine doesn't seem to do that. Only when I turn the phone off and on.
Also, while I'm here, I also have a problem with a message not sent pop-up coming up pretty often, however, the message is sent. I just click ok and get out of it with no harm done, it just gets annoying sometimes. I don't know if that has anything to do with the phone also lagging a bit when I send a message and go to back out right away? I feel like I'm having a lot of issues with my TP2 and a lot of people aren't and are loving there's. I like the phone but it has these issues which are really turning me away Well, thanks for any help I can get here.
I may be jumping the gun by posting and not reading your entire message carefully because I find your post difficult to read. You should seriously try a custom ROM. Task29, flash radio, then flash ROM, then love it.

I'm guessing that when you send text messages you do it using contacts from the sim card, yes? Try copying them over to the phones' address book, then using those entries to text from, and see if that doesn't clear up the mystery message issue.
Says i have a message and i don't
opps ment to hit new thread. sorry
Hi all,
I'm using the MTS right now and there seems to be a persistent (albeit sporadic) problem that is happening to all MTS users.
When you get a text message and have the message icon on a homescreen (doesnt matter which one), a little number appears at the bottom of the icon to indicate you have that many unread texts.
The problem is that sometimes, even when the text is read and appears as read, the icon (displaying the appropriate number) does not revert back. (but sometimes it does...)
Powercycling the phone solves it, adding a new message icon solves it for both the original icon and the new one. Deleting the texts/threads solves it.
Moving the icon locations/screens does not solve it.
Any techy ideas? (There is still time to patch this baby before it goes live!)
along with this issue are you having problems with the text msg screen randomly scrolling when typing or receiving texts msgs?... I have a red one that I have not noticed it so much on, but the blk one is horrible with it...
That seems to have to do with it recognizing touches on the screen. Sometimes if you are scrolling and the system hangs a bit, it will "catch up" by shooting waaay down.
But that's neither here nor there...
Do you have the actual MyTouch Slide, or just the ROM?
I've noticed the text screen jumping up to the top of the conversqtion in Handcent but have yet to figure out if it's due to me in some way or if its a glitch.

This is a consistent problem that I've noticed over the few weeks as well.
Although I've yet to encounter this issue since the production firmware update 2 days ago.

physical phones not the rom
Still haven't had this issue since the update. Prior to updates it happen
maybe 1-2 times daily with the amount of messaging.
I also tested it to see if I could replicate the problem. I use Phonefusion's Visual Voicemail application which sends the phone a random string of message to set off the alert within the application when I get a voicemail...however this message is auto deleted. So I found when getting voicemail's the message icon would stay stuck on "1" unread due to the message deleting itself and not being read. I can safely report this is no longer the case. YAY!
I had that issue on my HTC Hero, so I wonder what it is. I just got the slide so IDK if it's gonna happen to me yet but I hope not. It's not a huge deal but little things like that get on my nerves.
Were you able to fix the text jumping/random scrolling problem? If so, how'd you solve it? I've been experiencing the same problem.

UPDATE: Delete this post. Reposted with pix
Ok so I just rooted and flashed my MT3GS with CM7. Now when I slide the screen to text, etc the screen goes whacky. I have attached a few pix.

I'm a first time poster. I have searched the Q&A section a few number of pages about my problem and I can't find anything.
My phone likes to press a certain area of the touch screen without me touching it at all. I don't really know what else to call it except "ghost inputing". Sometimes when I go to input text or when I'm at the home screen, it decides to go crazy. If I'm typing up a text message, if in portrait, my phone likes to type Q's even when I definitely don't want to. If I'm in landscape, a bunch of spaces and period is what it likes to press. If I'm at the home screen, the phone likes to pick up an app or open it.
It gets pretty annoying, especially when I'm just trying to reply to someones message. My only temporary way of fixing it was to turn on and off the screen. Sometimes it takes awhile.
I have tried flashing a stock 1.47 ota rom but it didn't really help, actually made it worse. Touch screen responsiveness dropped significantly, so i flashed back down to like 1.32 (responsiveness came back).
I got my phone the day it was released, so I don't even know if I can bring it back to Best Buy or not. Any kind of suggestion would be great... this problem can really bring my spirits down sometimes, especially when I'm showing off my phone to random people when they ask me. Kinda embarrassing to have my phone freak out when it's supposed to be a high end device....
Sounds like a warranty thing. I'd hit up htc.

Im having the same problem making my phone useless :/
I have been trying to bring this issue to light for sometime!!
I have a topic on it already if you guys want to add to it but the end result for me right now is trying to get the phone exchanged..

I have had the same problem.
Turning the screen on and off sometimes makes it go away. It seems like it started when I rooted (simple 3 click). Not positive about that though.
I'm now running Fresh 3.1.0.1 and it is better.

Try running some of the older ROM's not based off the .47 OTA or the newer froyo and its gone completely for me..
Has anyone noticed the stock Messages app has some glitches in it now. Specifically, I've found 2:
1. If I'm typing a text, about 50% of the time, the screen will suddenly jump to the very top of the conversation list. This also removes the window you are typing in and stops you typing. So if you have around 200 messages in that particular conversation, it can be quite irritating to have to start flicking back down to continue.
2. This one is less frequent but I'm now sure it exists. When I tap on a particular conversation from the main list, occasionally I get taken to a completely different name/conversation. I used to go back to the main list to see if I mis-tapped, but the conversation it went to wasn't even close.
I've now gone to Handcent because of the irritation, but I'm wondering if it was only me that saw this?
i have the first problem too... very frustrating but i like the stock sms application because its so simple... tried chomp sms and handset 2 months ago and went back to stock app because i couldnt search in greek to add a contact (i dont know if it has been fixed)...
non rooted desire with froyo
yep, got these problems too, however I'm not on stock froyo, NeoPhyTe 5.0. I have also noticed another problem, whenevery I'm scrolling through the widget, sometimes all messages seem to be from one contact, even though they're not! weird, but then I let it reload and all seems fine
This started happening pretty much immediately since I installed the 4.4.3 update late July, and has just gotten worse.
For a single one of my contacts, the SMS app lags HORRIBLY whenever I am doing anything with said person. It takes about half a minute just to load when I click his name, and the phone keeps completely freezing for up to 10-15 seconds EACH letter I type! It's not just the SMS app itself, but even the keyboard freezes up and is unresponsive. I can keep typing and it will apparently actually record the next 30 or so taps and just blaze through them ... then lag for another half minute or so again. None of the settings (how little there are) have had any effect. Once I click send the message also takes a bit before it appears and starts to send. Any action with this contact open in the SMS app seems to lag my phone like a unusable nightmare.
Since this is the person I tend to text the most, I have been tempted to crush the phone in my hand at this point. It is ONLY happening with them, and ONLY after the 4.4.3 update. It's not consistent either; I was still having this issue earlier today, but right now as I wanted to text him again it was working perfectly lag-free.
I know the first response anyone is going to say is to wipe my phone, but with this being the only issue I have, I really do not want to completely obliterate everything and start over from scratch just to fix one person in my SMS app. On top of that, I want to keep my SMS texting history as well. (Plus I would have no idea if restoring a backup wouldn't also restore the issue).
Has anyone else encountered or heard of anything like this? Or has any ideas of anything OTHER than wiping the phone or my SMS history I can try? Considering the app only pre-loads the last 10 or so messages when you open a contact anyway, I highly doubt it's my history. I am going nuts with this stupid thing.
It is probably something in that message thread.
Deleting all messages from that person will surely fix it, based on what you've said.
You can try wiping the messaging apps cache. Other than that, I think you're stuck.
Second the opinion above. If it's only one message thread doing it, seems likely it's something unique to that thread. Too many messages, pics, etc. I used to use Titanium Backup to save messages between rom flashes, back when I cared about them, so a backup app can save the messages, let you delete the thread and see if it still happens with a blank slate.
