.27 radio? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone getting positive feedback while using this radio?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

When I flashed it on my G2, it drained my battery like crazy. Wouldn't even last half a day before it was at 5% and that was mostly standby, screen off, while I was in class.

I'm using it. No battery drain issues; better than the last OTA radio, actually. I seem to be picking up reception better in the dorms here as well.

I am using it and am also not having problems with battery drain... there is a thread full of all the radios for the G2 in easy to use PC10IMG format. Just download, place on root of sdcard, rename to PC10IMG.zip and boot in to bootloader... it should automaticly update the radio... then you can change back the same way if you want..

I flashed it the day that it was posted in the dev section. Next day I saw the battery drain, so I went back to my old radio. Didn't really follow the thread afterwards. I now see the thread has now posted that there are lib files that need to be changed as well.
I stayed away from it and a while back I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990860
It further confirmed of my situation, so I didn't even care about that radio anymore. I didn't really notice any difference between the two in terms of performance from my use.

Has anyone figured out how to juice up the radio? Much like overclocking the CPU, but with the radio to improve up and down signal.

I'm not worried about bricking my phone, as that's already happened and I've brought it back to life again, so gimme all you've got!!!

Haven't ever seen anything like that, no.
.......and FYI if you're still using it, it wasn't "bricked"
Other
You could always try the other released radios. The 11.xx has been scoring some pretty "oh my goodness, how fast can I uninstall this thing" ratings, but the 9.xx may do you some good. On all radios, YMMV; and be VERY VERY careful when flashing.
When it bricked it was stuck in an infinite boot loop, then after a few tries, wouldnt go further than hboot. I got lucky and found a way to restore an old rom I saved to my PC with the sdcard. I'm just glad I could still get it to run clockwork recovery.

Bricked actually means that you can't power it on its 100% unresponsive.

Interestingly, the 11.x radio increased my battery life about 20% (no major impact on my reception, if anything it seemed to have cost me a dB or two) compared to the 7.x radio. Tried the 9.x for a few days; cost me nearly half my battery life and caused the phone to run above 100F just for surfing the web.
It's DEFINITELY a YMMV situation.

Your phone wasn't even remotely close to being bricked. That would be kind of like saying a dislocated shoulder is total paralysis.
A bricked phone is one that can't do anything at all and is completely unrecoverable. A basic rule of thumb is that if you can get to the bootloader, the phone is in no way bricked.

Where do I go to get other radio versions, and which ones don't play nicely with Dinc?

Flashing radios is the number one way to brick your phone; basically, be careful and check MD5 sums.

I wish VZW would just release an official updated radio already.
As much as it ticked me off that some guy declared his own thread to be the new official thread, I think this has the links:

NON-Rooted Gingerbread Rom Installed

Last night I installed the NON Rooted version of the leaked Gingerbread Rom.
Everything Seems to works. Signal Reception is way better!!!! I notice it so much more!
Some people said the verizon app kept force closing. Mine did right after install and upgrade. But once I rebooted the phone it never happend again, not once.
Gps works perfectly
Camera perfect
Video perfect
HTC Widgets are now downloadable
SMS /MMS is perfect (before I had some force closes and alot of failed sends, Since install of Gingerbread I havenet had one problem.)
NOT ONE FORCE CLOSE ON ANY APP, this seems like a FINAL BUILD
If you have any questions let me know
Also for twitter lovers the PEEP app by HTC is greatly improved.
I am thinking about flashing it before I get my XTC clip just for ****s and giggles.
There are bugs serious enough in it for verizon to reject it, there is a new build in testing.
I cant find one single bug with it. Ive tried everything. My reception is soooooo much better. In bars and actual call quality. I havent seen one force close in 2 days of use and i have atleast 50 apps installed and tried them all.
Now i cant guarentee its final but boy it does seem so.
If you guys want me to try anything on it let me know.

Has the stock internet browser been updated? I prefer it over the third-party ones, but have found it to slow down under heavy use, especially on forums.
And I guess the obvious, any improvements in battery life? Especially with regular use, no videos or games, just browsing, having sync all enabled, etc.

I dont mind flashing RUU everytime.
As far as other improvments. Well batery life has always been good for me. I get up to 12 hours of use of the phone before it dies. That is great for a smartphone!! I dont play games but im syncing Twitter and 2 email accounts. all pages full pf widgets nd im not stop texting and streaming rhapsody.
Alot of font changes in the rom. Also when you do a factory reset it gives you the option to format SD again. In all honesty this ROM is perfect IN MY EYES!
Guys if this is a sign of whats to come from HTC were in good hands!!!
oh also I notice NO SLOW DOWN or stuttering EVEN WITH LIVE WALLPAPER ON......
Now i prefer sense ...but i can only imagine how much better this phone will be when the devs start dropping some sweet roms!
That is assuming a RUU is available for each update, it isn't always available.

jcase you obviously have alot of experience here,
what is the likelihood that we won't see an official gb ruu? it seems highly ulikely to me that htc wouldn't put it out, or someone couldn't get it out
i'm also in phone limbo till the clip arrives, but flashing ruu to ruu isn't the end of the world as it's been made out to be.
would you care to explain the bugs in this build you've heard about?
I have personally had minimal issues. ( gps icon in top bar doesn't go away ) that's all besides vz app non compatibility

Best ROM+Kernel for Battery Life

Ok guys so my brother in law has the EPIC 4G and im the one who flashes roms and such for it and has rooted it cuz he doesnt know how to do that stuff
so i am not usually caught up with the new roms and kernels for the EPIC 4G cuz i have an EVO 3D
anyway
what is the best ROM and Kernel combo out at the moment to get the best battery life for this phone
ive flashed MIUI and ive tryed CM7 for him and he says neither have been providing him a great battery life
im assuming its because of the current kernel hes using (havent flashed a new one in a while) or it could be because hes still using the stock battery which isnt all that great.
so if anyone can provide some answers it would be very helpful
please and thanks.
what rom and kernel is the phone using? every phone is different. so there is no specific rom or kernel combination to say per phone. cm7 is mtd, so i cannot help you with the mtd system. i don't use mtd yet.
but, is the phone running cm7 right now?

just for the record, signal strength does affect the battery life a great deal. in other words, if he uses the phone where he gets fair coverage or less, his battery will drain faster.
Like what was just mentioned all phones and users are different. You will just have to try them out..no shortcuts. And if he expects to get much more than 4 hours display on time, it's not gonna happen on the stock battery. Keep him on CM7 and order him the GS2 1800 mAH battery from Amazon.

Meaningless information unless you tell us everything you did in that 5 hours with durations and the strength of your signal. If I turn data off and just keep checking the time I could peobably get 10 hours display time.

Radio for gen y visionx b5

I have a G2 with desire z hboot and running genY visionX B5 i was thinking of upadating my radio=26.02.01.15_M2 first of all i want to know the benefit of doing this and the best one to flash i was told it helps in battery life and communication enhancement ..............pls.........help...........:good:
I REALLY NEED HELP PLSSSSS :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
There are too many factors to tell you what radio will work best for you, depending on your location, who you use your phone, what ROM/modifications you use
having said this many find the latest T-Mobile radio the best (.19) of course I promise you nothing but for me it gives great battery life and reception.
There is a thread in the developers section with links to every radio for the vision, try a few out for a few days at a time and see what works best for you. There will also be a link and explanations of the benefits to matching some libs. Edkeys also has a thread on this as well, I suggest reading up a bit and running a few tests by yourself

changing radios in itself or having a different radio won't damage the phone, it is possible to brick your phone anytime you tamper with firmware, but unlikely so long as you read up and know what you are doing.
not by a computer so I won't send links but the search function works well, just search the dev section

well that's not always the case, sometimes gps will lock immediately still. its a good idea to wipe efs though, if you read through that thread and the other threads linked from it there will be all the explanations you need. but again flashing any one radio will not guarantee better reception, gps lock, or battery life, just most people find the .19 radio does

[Q] What should I do?

Ok so I have my galaxy s3 att version rooted with faux's kernel on the stock rom. I havent received any updates since the original purchase and my battery life is suffering bad due to the cell standby problem (don't know how common it is) and is taking up ALOT of battery during the day. I need to get my phone up to the latest update so I can resolve this annoying problem. I leave it on standby doing absolutely nothing at all for 7 hours everyday and is always at %40 left starting off with %100. I dont know the process I need to do to update my phone to the latest and not lose all of my stuff and also be able to have it rooted on the latest update. Also a noob question but does it matter what version your on as far as how you root it? I would assume so but I dont know, and to clarify I mean like will only certain methods work on certain firmware versions?
I have a few questions for you? Are using the most up to date faux kernel?
What do you mean by leaving your phone on standby? Screen off and leaving it alone or something else.
Try something for me. Is your phone deep sleeping? Download an app called cpu spy and see if your getting deep sleep? Then report back.

Ok I'm pretty sure my kernel is latest to day. By standby I mean it's on but I don't use it like you first mentioned and the screen is off and I don't do anything with it ever day for around 7 hours. I just downloaded the cpu spy and it says I am not getting deep sleep at all!
For the other post I'm gonna download that and flash it and see if it helps

I downloaded and flashed that at stock update but there is only one problem. All my apps that require root are saying I don't have root access. I have an s3, my brother has an s3. Same exact phone. I hadn't updated mine at all, my brothers was up to date. We both go to school and font ever use it because we obviously aren't allowed to and at the end of the day I always have around %40 and he has about %75-80. Please explain to me when it says that, and under battery usage that cell standby used some %80 of my battery drainage that wasn't a cell standby issue.
Different batteries or more likely you have an ap running or poor signal or different settings than him. I have about 5 batteries all stock and some last better than others
