unrevoked have announced on twitter that they have the code for rooting wildfire froyo 2.2 !!
as a total noob...what is the next step? or how long will it take before we can use unrevoked and clockworkmod on wildfire 2.2?
thanks in advance
It's an exploit that works for 2.2, they never said it was for wildfire. But they're working on new exploit because HTC Thunderbolt has fixed the exploit they open-sourced.
So if they have working exploit for Thunderbolt(which is version 2.2.1), it could work for wildfire too.
After a couple of months of barely any news, things are looking up. come on Unrevoked!
Sounds promising
Not holding my breath yet though.
is every1 sure that thats not the source or source code for the existing exploit that they are already using in the prvious unrevoked

it IS the source code of the exploit in current version.
First of all they released the 2.2 exploit which is not for wf 2.2.1 and second of all they have announced they pick up thunderbold which means they are looking at it as it was with wf.
So dont piss in ur pants yet ladies

Well personally i consider the WF rooting project abandonware unless the exploit they use for thunderbolt HAPPENS to be compatible...
No news for months and the device itself is already awaiting the arrival of its successor (S). What can i say.... Hope dies last but its already feeling sick
Thunderbolt rooted, no recovery yet though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616

that exploit is not specifically for wildfire 2.2. they said they released source for an exploit in 2.2. they released it on github.com
it means that one is a general 2.2 exploit.
if it is specifically for wildfire, then wildfire must have been rooted by now
UnRevoked announced SoftRoot for Wildfire Froyo!!
According to this Tweet on 25th of April :
We're aware of Sebastian Krahmer's new release--excellent work by him! This can help temproot Wildfire, but permaroot still needs more work.
old news
Hopefully unrevoked team can come out with method to root my damned 2.2.1 !!! Have been waiting for it for 5 months.. I should have join the forum before I buy and OTA my wildfire..

When 2.2 Froyo is released it will presumably go to the N1 first, then we'll have to wait for HTC and for carriers to get round to updating the Desire.
But with rooting is it possible to just put 2.2 straight on a Desire from the Nexus One?
As in, have the exact same 2.2 ROM as the N1. No modifications, nothing, just stock Froyo running on the Desire?
It will propbably take some tweaking but yes it will be possible.
with a rooted phone and after htc release the kernel source it will be possible
i didn't think htc release a 2.2 update soon :|
maby the dont release the kernel before they have made a 2.2 upgrade?
As usual we won't get a upgrade fron Htc for several months, but this community will react quickly as usual when the new kernel is released ;-)

Hi
I have updated my stock Desire OTA with the latest official Froyo from HTC, I was wondering if there is yet out there a way to root this stock official release yet? does unrEVOked work with official 2.2?
Thanks
Gam
Short answer to the unrEVOked, No
Long answer to the unrEVOked, Noooooooooooooooooo
Were still waiting on it, in the meantime Rooted users are enjoying Froyo Cooked ROMs
Thanks Dan for the quick reply, hope someone finds an easy rooting for the 2.2
How can i get cyanogenmod on android 2.2.1 ??
Thx
I think you meant 2.2. 2.3 is not available for the Wildfire officially. If that's the case, you cannot, because it is unrootable using any software methods.
Find someone with an XTC Clip on your area, get S-OFF, then Root, and then you will be able to install Cyanogenmod.
Sorry i mean 2.2.1.
I guessed as much. Official 2.2.1 is unrootable using any software yet.
ok thanks
Hi
I know that this was discussed many times.
but could you tell me what is the easiest/safer way to root/S-off htc desire z?
All posts I can find are quite old.
Thanks
Wiki method is considered by most here to be the safest.

thank you.
wiki probly safest....i dont got a cpu so i did gfree...took me bout hour (i know im slow but im brickless)
pimped out g2
I'm not rooted. If I have upgraded to 2.3.3 can I still use the gfree v0.5 method?

If you want to be rooted, I'd stay away from any official updates. No official updates have been rootable for some time. And I think people that have updated to the official Gingerbread T-Mobile G2 ROM are having trouble even downgrading in order to root. There is a pre-rooted (but otherwise "official") G2 T-Mobile Gingerbread ROM posted in the Development section. If you want the Sense GB ROM, you should wait until a pre-rooted version is posted here. You would still need to root and gfree in order to flash either of those.
Thanks RedPoint. Going to hold off for now. I love the official gingerbread. I just want screenshot and over-clocking capability.
I have my wife's Wildfire S s-offed, rooted and uploaded the shipped european ROM.
Will be an OTA update available for this phone, or we won't get it because of the s-off?
I don't think there will be any OTA updates for Wildfire S, I am open to correction though....
HTC's customer service suggested me to check for updates in the settings menu. Of course I've already tried that without success.

Ko_Ka, and how would a possible update to Gingerbread 2.3.5 come to our phones if not OTA? I'm not expecting HTC to tell customers to use RUU's...
Also there is still the possibility that ICS will hit the WFS. For now HTC announced the 1st wave of phones getting the upgrade but like they say (and I quote) "We're continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.". This came from HTC Facebook page.
The Wildfire S wasn't released that long ago and should be perfectly capable of running Ice Cream Sandwich...
