[SOLVED] what is a difference in radio? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was looking for stock Rom from era. I've found out that stock era is:
12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
While on the forum there can be found
12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2
The only difference is in radio, in the first one there is fU while in the second only f.
Could somebody explain me what is a difference and if it is negligible?
Thanks a lot in advance

I have asked the exact same question somewhere around here a few weeks ago. Got no reply back. I think (but don't know for sure) the letters you are referring to do not make a difference, its the last part (after the first _) which identifies the radio.

Ok, assuming you have right, I'm still curious why there is this difference.
However thanks for you reply

The "U" is added by you phone if you are on a carrier that offers HSUPA. That means you have both "4G dl AND 4G ul" if it was just "f" then you would only have 4G dl.

What's the worst thing that can happen if I flash a new radio?

will anything happen iff I mess up or something like dat?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
If you mess up, you'll end up with a brick

How can u mess up
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
By flashing a radio for another device, is one way u could brick it. Other than that, the way that our radios have been packed, they are done through the booatloader. Flashing anything that way period is pretty much fool/error proof. Don't worry and just do it.

Flashing a radio alone is safe. Just don't pull the battery out during the process.

Foolproof unless your phone turns off during the process
To the OP..if your phone is working proper don't flash a radio. If it ain't broke don't fix it

Nope, not true.
Check out this guy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020691
And this too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1028780
So THAT is the worst that can happen.
There was also a thread on here a few weeks back (can't find it now), discussing how radios are updated by HTC, but no effort is made to ensure they are backwards compatible with older ROMs (since they are not intended to be flashed seperately from the ROM update they are released with) and this can cause issues.
As Spastic909 stated, unless you have a specific reception or battery issue, don't mess with it. If you are getting decent reception and battery life, flashing radios willy-nilly is probably not going to help much, and might hurt.
You may also get squirel aids. You have to carefull.

Republic Wireless

thinking of changing to republic, but i still want to keep my inc2. anyone have any ideas that knows more about this company?
I wouldn't recommended that. Republic seems too good to be true. You can keep your inc2 but you can not use it on their plan bc they have only one phone (LG optimus)
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2434...u_have_a_strange_definition_of_unlimited.html
There's also an article on android police
Seems like a good idea for the service but when not using WiFi you are really hampered...I think somewhere they basically consul you on getting back on track using wireless if your 3g or whatever gets too high. I like the concept but would make sure you check all the details before taking the plunge.

I might be wrong, but it looks as if, to get service, you have to buy the phone.

Also since it is based off of Sprints network you will be really sacrificing signal for cost unless you are always in WiFi. Look into page plus if you are needing to cut cost. They run off Verizon towers and can use any Verizon phone if unlocked.

Signed up for the next round of invites, going to try one as a second line.
I would actually be interested in this, if I didn't already have an Inc2 and service through my parent's family plan. Maybe in a few years when they cut me loose, I will check it out, assuming it's still around. Would probably even be more refined.

Screen issue need advice plz

Sup guys/gals, this is my first issue with hardware or build quality today I noticed my screen rocks side to side mainly when pressing the top 2 corners of the device I just updated arhd 9.4.0 with st and noticed a price drop on mc3 so I played that for 30min the device become extremely hot then I noticed the screen issue. I would like to hear if you've had this issue and how you got it fixed was it covered under warranty even with bootloader relocked? btw I'm on three UK

That is clearly a hardware / manufacturing defect, so they will most probably fix it despite the unlocked bootloader. But like the poster above me said, relock the bootloader and flash the correct RUU before taking it back.
Lol definitely shouldn't move I think gameloft killed my screen as I've never noticed any problem before I'm more worried about three saying I must cover the costs as they've tried several times with my n96, n97, x10i but I stood my ground and got all of these phones for free in one contract at no extra cost I'm guessing it wont be as smooth when they see bootloader relocked

Sprint custom ROMs on Virgin Mobile SGS3?

I bought the Virgin Mobile SGS3 a week ago, from what I can tell the hardware is the same.
I've tried to search my answer of these forums and google, but nothing really comes up.
Am I able to use any Sprint ROM on the Virgin Mobile SGS3? Though the hardware seems the same, there is a VM splash screen when I turn it on, so it makes me wonder if perhaps there is a slight difference?
I asked same question. Hope we can get some info.
