Rom to sd card - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I know this is probably the stupidest question I have ever ask. I promise I think I know what I'm doing lol. When flashing a custom rom "syndicate frozen" I understand everything from ext4 to clockworkmod3. What I have not figured out yet is how to copy the stupid rom to my sd card? Do I use mass storage? Ps I have the samsung drivers and have rooted my epic. Thanks for all of your help.

Stuck in CWM I need help!

So last night I was running Starburst Rom and decided that I wanted to theme it, so I downloaded the theme I liked for it, flash it in recover, but when I reboot the system it kept boot looping. So I figured that I needed to format it, so I went back into recovery and used Caulkins Format All zip, flashed it, then flashed the theme again. OUCH this time my phone would just show the yellow triangle and Samsung logo ( start up page). I can still go back to recovery but all my other Roms are gone so I cant even restore my phone or anything! What can I do? I used Heimdall to root, can I go back and re root again? Would I still get the stock rom? HELP
Download a rom onto an sd card and flash it from recovery. Format all wipes your entire system, you use format all to have a clean slate before you flash a new rom. You have no os now.
Edit: You could also flash the stock .tar they just put up in the development section, just make sure you read the instructions first or you could hardbrick.

You don't. You download it to a pc or mac and then transfer it to a micro sd card and then put the card in the phone and flash the Rom from recovery.

Your going to need a computer at some point if you've lost root. You can at least get the phone working again though.

I have a computer, and I can dowload a rom into it, no problem, my issue is that I cant get this on my SD card due to me not being able to mount the phone in recovery. I tried and it wont. So my solution would be to go to a friends house that has an Android, download a ROM into their phone with my SD card then go back to my phone and flash it.
Do you still have a custom recovery or just the Samsung recovery....sorry i should've asked sooner.

I have lots of those, the one on the phone is a 16GB and it has NOTHING on it.
I'd just flash through Odin or Heimdall and start over.

Right I am with you, but my question is, if I flash through Heimdall again will I get the stock rom? I know by using this method I am flashing a kernel, but since I have no OS as you stated because mY dumb *&^% formatted all, would I get the rom back this way?

The link i posted is stock. After thats done you can reroot and go from there. Make sure you uncheck the boxes in the instructions or you'll brick. If those options aren't shown then don't flash it. I don't know macs very well.

Let me research to see if Odin is Mac compatible but I doubt it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282420
Heres another option I've used myself. As far as I know you have to use Heimdall, its the mac version of Odin but I don't know any of the commands or how to use it.

32gb. Microsd card question.

I just bought a 32gb sd card for my phone. When I try to flash a Rom or do a nandroid backup it fails. Do I need to do anything special? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Make sure your backup is being sent to the sdcard and not internal memory ...cuz the internal memory may be full and therefore causes the back up to fail because there's no room....if your using rom manager go to the settings and it'll let you choose whether you want to do backups with internal or external.....this can also be done within recovery as well but I don't have the options memorized to dictate them to you

Cannot install to sd on ics

Every time i use any kind of ics rom i cant install games because it will not intall on sd card. But on gb it works fine anyone have any ideas on this.

Thanked you by accident, but if you are using a repack kernel than you won't be able to. Try flashing stock.
Oh boy...

What modem and kernel are you on?
You have to unmount the SD so it can install on the internal storage.
I have been having the same issue. Running stock kernel and unmounting SD card doesn't seem to help.
Sent from the phone my girlfriend said was too big.
seems like just another reason to stay on GB for a while...

SD card required to flash/backup in recovery?

Hi guys, just got my gs3 last week, coming from the evo 3d. I tried searching and couldn't find anything, but I'm sorry if this has been addressed already. Anyway, once I root, will I be able to backup and flash roms without an sd card? Im just confused because rooting doesnt require one, but I thought that doing data wipes/factory resets in recovery will also wipe the internal device storage. Clarification would be very much appreciated!!

You do not need an sd card.... Twrp or cwm will work without it... I suggest twrp... Which you can find over in the development thread....

Hope this isn't too off topic, but I have a 32gig class 10 sd card from my htc evo and am seriously considering the S3 when I upgrade. Can I use this sd card or do I even need it with the S3?

What do you mean copy and paste? How?
Copy and paste. Find the rom in your files, copy the zip and paste it in your SD card.
Stock ICS on my S3

Wow, if your asking this, you might as well start reading how to unbrick your phone, I think it's inevitable.

Fair enough, don't rush into anything then. Read, read, read..... Plug your phone into your computer, click in the downloaded rom, drag it into your internal sd card (phone) or your external card (micro sd) reboot into custom recovery, wipe, then flash rom, then reboot

It might seem like a lot of reading and info at first but if you are interested in flashing roms it's worth it to avoid turning your device into a brick.
To respond to your op I use es file explorer to copy files from pc to device via lan shares.
Flash rooted stock firmware via oden on your pc. Install custom recovery (cwm I find works best for stock and asop or aokp over twrp) and make sure you do a backup (nandroid) and IMEI prior to flashing a Rom.
