[Q] Just got my tilt2, this thing is painfully slow! tips? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hey everyone, I just got my tp2 in the mail today, this thing is much slower than I anticipated it being. this is saying something as I am coming form a WM5 HP HW6925 model. It just seems to take forever to get from one option to the next i dont know if Im missing something.
Is there anything I should know about, there is such a wealth of knowledge on here I dont even knew where to begin.

first of all, if you did not have the latest official rom, be sure to flash it (you can get it from HTC's official site).
in order ot really speed up your device, you probably need to root it and flash custom rom in my opinion. it adds a lot of feature and also makes the device much faster. check the custom rom section/.

Ok one thing that's got me lost is the GPS. On my old phone I had a file I had to download every 3 days that informed the phone where the satellites were in order to allow the GPS to get a quicker track. On this phone I see nothing mentioning the GPS besides A-GPS.
I do not have a data plan, but I have used the internal GPS on my old phone just fine without it, is this going to be an issue with this phone?
I used the standalone TomTom for my old phone, i see tom tom may not be an option currently on this phone but I can find other non data requiring programs, but does the GPS depend on data? or is AGPS just based off the cell signal?
thanks!

O2 RELEASE ROM UPGRADE FOR XDA2S

I have been sent a link from O2 Data Support for downloading the new XDA2s ROM upgrade, which apparently will fix the Bluetooth problems.
The link is...
http://www.sourceo2.com/O2_Developers/Devices/O2_Xda_II/XdaIIs_launchROM.htm
Haven't done anything with it yet, but thought you guys might like to know...
regards,
Guy
Hmm I wonder if I can use this update on my O2 Xda2s.
I got it in Malasyia.
Noel
I installed it on my UK XDA 2s, I will report back later.
In the PDF it's saying that this version is only for devices sold by O² UK or O² Ireland... Not sure if I should give it a go on my version..
Noel
I think I might wait and see what others say about this before I install it myself. So many that have it already say it is great but then you hear others say it has caused problems.
That post is the launch rom, not an upgrade. LMAO It is intended for people who attempt to flash the XDA IIs with a different vendors rom and screw it up.
Mike
Nope, its not, click the link. O2 are obviously just too lazy to create a new page for a new rom!
Nigel
HAHA you are correct!!! LMAO oh well.
Hi..have installed the update..and have encountered several problems...was wondering if anyone could help me.
I hate the fact that the clock has disappeared from the top right so whe u are using applications its no longer visible. Is there any way of bring it back?
Also now when you click the o2 at the top it dosn't give the active connections anymore. Therefore whats the quickest way to disconnect the gprs? and is there any way of bringing that back to how it used to be?
I have also had to reset my phone more often that I had to before.
Was wondering if anyone had encountered the same problems and how to resolve them.
Thanks so much...
Bit the bullet and upgraded last night, wifi still works and as I use Corporate mode I don't get any issues with 02 active, icons or clocks. All seems normal, so far!
Have to agree with Dave. I finally bit the bullet and installed the update last night. Don't like the new O2 active and put the clock straight back with the registry key.
Other than the missing clock and poor O2 Active software which I never use anyway no real problems. Tom Tom still works fine with my Bluetooth GPS receiver. WIFI still works fine with WPA security and everything locked down on the access point.
Still receive SMS notification and its nice that you're not limited to 70 char when using ' in sms text messages now!
All ok.
har5ha:
Just get the old O2 active back. To to this, head to the xda-dev FTP site, find the old O2 XDA IIs extended rom, pull it, find the file install.ARM.CAB (O2 active)
Sync/backup yr stuff then hard reset the XDA IIs, and let it do its stuff. When leave it to install the extended rom, but be ready to soft reset it when you get asked the 'corporate/personal' question (you'll have to watch the screen since there is a timeout). Once it reboots, copy install.ARM.CAB to the machine, and execute it. It will soft reset yr device at the end.
I use 2 things from O2 active, the battery plugin and the O2 icon to kill connections. Shame billy did not think to include a disconnect dialogue as well really (he put on in for vpn).
There might be a way to install old over new, dunno. I tried and it locks loads of files (even if you prevent it from loading).
Nigel
thanks Nigel...I ended up installing gb soft for the disconnect button.
So its ok...still getting loads of crashing. I think am going to reinstall it and then use corporate mode..hopefully it will crash less!
can I get an update on xda iis rom update
Hi all, I'm still new to this whole thing but reading and researching all I can. Don't have an xda iis as of yet, but on the high streets waiting list. I like the phone and in one way, can't wait, but don't want problems when I get it, especially at the price. Can anyone on o2 that has purchased their phone from o2 let me know how you are getting on...problems...ect, before and after the update.? To be honest, I'm a bit afraid to bite the bullet and get one right now due to what I'm hearing...especially since I'm not very computer smart. I do understand that it depends a lot on the manufacturer of the phone but if I had problems like I'm hearing about it would really do my head in...(no patience). Thanks
Well I love my phone to bits...had issues with the update but now that I have hard reset it and put it corporate mode its not freezing anymore.
But you have to remember its a pocket pc...like a pc..will need to be reset every so often...I was resetting mine of average once a day. It just takes a minute.
There are some negative points..but the positive outweighs the negative I think. My old pda was palm os (clie) and this is windows which is really good! As well as the fact that it has a phone built in too!
Hi all.
Can you please post some more feedback on this rom.
How is the BT stability?
Range?
Crackling noise?
License Expired troubbles?
I know its Build 3500, but maybe something else in this rom makes a difference.
How about the problem with sound dissapering when you answer a call.
Any troubbles here? This is really a pain in the (_!_)
Running the New Rom for a couple of days now and it seems much better than the launch Rom, The O2 active stuff is just as pants as usual so remove that and the "Connections" exe from Windows\startup.
Best thing is that it's stopped the annoying bug of the GPRS settings being screwed up when you enable/disable Wi-Fi.
Recommend it myself
Password
Anybody knows the password for this rom
PDA2K Upgrade
Hi, Can this rom replace the i mate rom on the 2K.& If so will it then be sim locked to O2? as I want to use an O2 pay as you go, & T-mobile sim
many thanks in advance............

Recommendation for 8525... to return or not to return?

Hey. First off thanks for providing such great resources here. I just about gave up on my phone but hopefully the roms provided here will allow me to like this phone. Been having a multitude of problems, having to constantly soft reset, and losing vital contact information. Calls do not go through often and 3g does not connect.. often.
Would anyone recommend I return the phone to At&t?
Also as far as roms go, there are plenty here to choose from, can any recommendations for a rom that provides the most ease of use for a dedicated business user?
Thank you in advance for any help and sorry for the noob rant!
exchance then unlock
Yeah I would exchange it, just because you can. Then unlock the phone and put VP3g's latest on. That is my stand by because it is so reliable and has most of what I want. I also use the home plug in screen with N2A weather redirect and registry hacks to make it the way I want.
Rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317952
weather - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187
By "return the phone to ATT" do you mean exchange it for another 8525 or give up on this model and try something else? If you mean the former and it is less than 30 days since you bought it then I would say yes. I took my original one back after 29 days becuase the start menu kept popping up and down. Even though I had flashed vp3G's 2.0h ROM and put on the 1.40 radio there were no questions asked: here you go, another nice new one fresh in the box.
I haven't tried any other cook's ROMs but I am happy with vp3G's v3.0. I have no connection problems data or phone here in the SF Bay area. Also used in New Mexico, (and after unlocking) Germany, and the Philippines with no complaints.

NOOB - Few Questions

Hi, I have a verizon htc touch. I was wondering if someone can explain the below.
1) If I do a hard reset in order to reflash WM6.1 what point is there to not let the customizations run? How do I keep them from running - will my phone still work (I assume so).
2) I have seen lots about VZW locking down the GPS. Is the GPS in WM6.1 the same type of GPS that is in a Garmin or other handheld device? Or is it a GPS that will constantly be talking to the cell towers - using my data plan?
3) What is up with the NSFAN rom? Seems like its all the craze. I just got this phone and its my first smartphone - WM device. I don't want to mess it up.
Thanks!

Once you hard reset and it completes it will restart on its own - as soon as it shows "starting customization" or something similar with a 3 second countdown and a big OK button then just stick the stylus in the reset hole and soft restart

The HTC Vogue (Touch) utilizes aGPS (assisted with help from towers for faster location and locks) and GPS via satillites
There are settings to disable aGPS and utilize only GPS but your going to have to dig through the NFSFAN ROM thread as its in there I just dont know the settings right off my head (I use sprint sorry)

Its fast, stable, up to date and if you go through the thread, people are there helping each other which is ALWAYS a plus

Thanks for the replies D. Doug.
I suppose doing any of this will not hurt my phone as I could always do a hard reset to get it back to the factory rom if I needed to right?

As answered in your other thread, a hard reset will only reload the OS thats currently on the phone now
if your running 6.0 - hard reset will give you a phone with 6.0 as it was when first installed
if your running 6.1 - hard reset will give you a phone with 6.1 as it was when first installed
if your running 6.5 - hard reset will give you a phone with 6.5 as it was when first installed
If you need to go back to original ROM, you will need to flash to that ROM specifically if you upgrade to any other custom ROM

Gps Help
I use to own a Alltel Touch (love that phone, got stolen, so I gotta Touch Pro ). They had the gps locked down to so you would pay $10 month for them to get it working. If you search arround for Shadow Tech AGPS hack, you will be amazed. I could get 10-15 locks. This is Assisted GPS though and it uses data. The phone has a crappy GPS antenna, most people never get it working without hacking it. Oh and not letting customs run will do just that. It will just load the base windows files without carrier or chef customizations.

Unlocking your phone & flashing a custom ROM will certainly void your warranty. You do not necessarily need a custom ROM in order for the GPS to function. I had mine working with the stock WM6.1 by not ever letting the customizations run.
Thanks!

1. Your phone will still work by not letting the customizations run. The extra bloatware that Verizon has on you phone will not be installed & leaving you more memory. Letting the customization run will disable the GPS. There are fixes & hacks but people have had greater success keeping their GPS functioning by not letting the customizations run. If you have let the customizations run even once your GPS will still be locked. Doing a hard reset will not help either.
2. I do not have a data plan I am able to use TomTom 7 without a problem. The GPS does not need to talk to the tower & use your data plan in order to work. This is how The VZ navigator, Google Maps, & Live Search work.

Probelm with WiFi

Hello there,
What I Have: Att 8525 Herm100
Rom: Att's Mobile 6
Everything is stock but the extended life battery
The problem I am having is when ever I try to activate my WiFi the phone doesn't do anything. I am not sure if there is a wifi card or not but that's want I want to know. I have tried everything from activating it in com manager to going into the settings and activating it manually and nothing happens it acts like I didn't even hit the button to activate it. Is there a wifi card in the phone or is it integrated on the motherboard in the phone. Note: I bought this phone off e-bay and the wifi never worked when I received the phone.
I am new here and if there is a post about this already I am sorry.
I hate it when that happens.
To begin, there were two ATT OEM WM6 roms relevant to the 8525 that I noticed deep in the bowels of XGA.
I chose the later file (higher revision numbers) I found it here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Available Original Shipped WM6 ROM Versions
From comm manager when I click the tower button on within a second the spinning windoze icon shows something is happening. It then starts "sniffing" for my preset wifi connection (ATT supplied 2wire portal 802.11g).
Now, if yours does not show the spinning windoze working icon when you turn on wifi? There obviously is a problem. This could be software, or hardware related (duh). If there is no error message related to "wifi is not an option, unavailable, or screwed" then my first guess is there is something missing or damaged in the ROM update that was applied to your device. As far as I know all 8525 (herm100) were shipped with wm5. It had been mentioned in the volumes of xda that the first AT&T WM6 rom was a little buggy. Try the later released AT&T WM6 update.
It was a run file so no muss no fuss. Sync the phone run the update from the pc, three minutes later the phone is flashed to ATT WM6 professional.
You could take it to a ATT shop? But, I think that without a doubt they would hand it back and say you need a new phone with a 20 year contract and 3g data plan even Obama would blush at.
Try the hard reset. take a picture of the startup screens so you have the numbers and see if the wifi startup is working after the reset. If not then compare the numbers to the above mentioned roms. If the indications are you have the first issue of WM6 from ATT try flashing the second release. If that still fails then your device could indeed have a hardware problem.
The wifi is indeed built into the system and if that chip on the board is not working it could be a overly expensive problem. Possibly a shop has a working board they would swap out cheap? Otherwise, it is a fun phone you can keep notes on, run gps software if you have a bluetooth gps receiver and software like tomtom.
To be honest the wifi on my 8525 has been convenient when around the house to check the local weather radar when I hear a thunder outside, or browse headlines from the porcelain room or even leave messenger turned on incase a gamer friend is looking for someone to get shot up in a game.
I have used the live search voice thing to amaze the neighbors once. But, the limited range of wifi is a real drawback to how truly wonderful that addition could be.
HELP Please! Wi-Fi not working!!!
Hi to XDA all users !!!
MY Hermes - HTC TyTN [Herm200]
I bought HTC Hermes myself year ago.
there was flashed a WM5.0, I've just downloaded from here HARD SPL & WM6,1 (Custom) Flashed.
Wi-Fi will works on WM5.0.
Well here I am at 6.1 flashed and now is not working Wi-Fi. When i pressed Power ON - loading long and nothing happens.
Other methods are also tried on Commanager and Settings - but did not help.
What do I need to do my dear.
HELP!
Thank you for your attention!
Hi Nurk.
Since the wifi worked on wm5 but failed after the 6.1 flash. I would guess the problem is in the 6.1 components. You might start with contacting the kitchen rom you employed for WM6.1 thread and see if this has happened to others. Next step would be to check the radio rom version. I did see on xda an assortment of Radio roms.
If your not totally in love with the current rom you have flashed? Try another 6.1 or even a 6.5 and see whats poppin.

Touch Pro 2 custom Roms/Speed increase

Hey all, my girlfriend got a US Cellular Touch Pro 2, and I got it to run on AT&T, and its ran pretty good for a few months, but now she's getting upset because its being slow and last night it wasn't showing call logs/sms past September 2nd, even though she's received many since than, and when I tried calling her, it showed up as "Unknown" even though i'm in her phone book, the date was also wrong, showing it sometime in July. So its becoming frustrating for her. My question is, is there a custom ROM (I'm an Android guy and have a few Roms on my Incredible) that I can put on her phone that will speed the phone up and make it more usable, and still keep the GSM functionality? Is there any way to do this? If not what are some speed tips and other tips to make the phone more usable? Thanks!
Id hard reset, task 29 then flash the rom of your choice. Theres a whole host of em over at ppcgeeks for cdma users. Adjust your settings (internet, mms etc) and grab any cabs you'll need or want (att keyboard fix or any att specific programs youll want to run) then yous hould be good to go.
So do I need to find a CDMA ROM that supports a SIM Card? Or find a GSM ROM? I was thinking Mighty Rom looked pretty good, but I have no idea on what to do to go about setting it up for her. I remember paying $20 to get a SIM Unlock, CID Unlock and Security Unlock tool, and then I did some ROM flash of a custom Sprint ROM to get AT&T to work on it.
Yes you are going to need a cdma rom if the phone is cdma regardless of At&t being the current service provider. Otherwise you will brick the phone. I have a sprint touch pro2 running At&t with no problems using nrg rom over at ppcgeeks.
Link to thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-tp2-upgrades/86489-rhodcmda-energy-sep-8-21916-24634-sense-2018-a.html
I would recommend the cookie rom version since that is the one that I use all the time. I've tried all the other but I keep coming back. But there's a nice variety so the choice is really yours/hers.
I would also recommend to task 29 and since you too have your phone unlocked to at&t (sim unlock) use the same unlocker radio in the task 29 so you get a clean and working radio/rom. Have her backup her texts, contacts, calendar etc using pim manager or microsoft myphone or active sync if she chooses so.
If you run into any problems you can post here, pm me, or even drop by in the nrg forum on ppcgeeks where there are many others willing to help first timers.
Best wishes man
Edit: Quick tip. It really does help to clear out text messages and email every once in awhile. This is known to cause instability. (degraded speed, errors...) If you don't feel like flashing a new rom you could just hard reset the phone which may fix whatever issues. Just know it will delete everything and those problems may still be on the device. It really is best just to task 29 and try a new rom especially since almost anything is better than the stock sprint one.
Why to change ROM? It seems that only the TP2 has to be cleaned up, as you should do time by time.
The easiest way to do this is using SK Tools. There are all the possibilities to clean a PPC in there with just a finger touch: Beginning with cleaning temp-folders up to cleaning the registry. I do this about once a month and have no problems like describben.
