Trouble flashing radio..."error: device not found" - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm using the guide on how to flash a ROM onto my DHD and I'm at the stage of flashing a new radio.
In command prompt when I start with "adb reboot bootloader" it says *daemon started successfully*, however then says "error: device not found".
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, and I can't post it in the guide thread as I have less than 10 posts!
Many thanks for any info

Have you tried to boot to bootloader from the device itself instead of command prompt. And then flashing the radio from command prompt. Has everything else went ok since that stage, sure you've got every bit right and installed?

I will try doing it that way now. I saw that and thought it would work, but didn't want to risk it.
Root, Radio S-off and ENG S-off all worked fine beforehand.
edit: tried that, bootloader rebooted, so I did "fastboot flash radio radio.img" and now getting - unknown partition 'radio.img',...error: cannot determine image filename for 'radio.img'

Ok, good to know you've got root, s-off and eng s-off so you should be out of harms way trying different things. Have you just tried to download the actual radio file again, could be a bad download? And do you have the radio.img file in the same actual folder as the fastboot file?
I remember while I was flashing a radio for the first time the android sdk had installed fastboot in a different folder (there is tools and platform-tools folders, or similar, can't recall the exact name as they are on my laptop and I'm on a different computer just now) than adb etc. and had to manually move it to the same folder. Check the things above and report back

I will try downloading the radio again, and yes I have moved it into the correct folder. It's weird that it's saying device not found, could it be something to do with drivers?

it might be your using a different usb port to the one that was working originally. Pretty sure that caught me out before.

Well it sounds a bit strange but it could somehow be fixed on a specific usb port, although haven't ever heard about such a problem It surely could be a driver issue, just to make sure you have all the necessary adb drivers and htc sync? And didn't have any problems installing hboot (just checking and checking )? Sometimes these are a bit of spirit world issues and a simple reboot (of the computer perhaps in this case) could solve the issue

Just as a quick update, I got it all to work in the end. Now running Revolution 3.2, very pleased!
Thanks for all your help, didn't get to the bottom of it I just kept trying and it randomly worked, didn't do anything differently!

Its true, adb had trouble working through a hub, you should plug you DHD into a usb port that connects direct to the mainboard

I'm having the exact same issue, but you guys are right, plugging into a USB directly connected to the mother board is the trick.

I been flashing a few roms today, then all of a sudden when i plug the phone into usb my laptop is asking to install Qualcomm CDMA drivers...
Now i did a look at the USB bricked threads, and i FM Radio doesnt work (but i cant say it worked before as i never used it) and usb obviously doesnt work.
IF it is a brick, how do i fix? the threads i read before were some what confusing.
Oh im also running the 2.2 Sense ROM. Slightly edited by me which could have crapped things up.
Any help would be appreciated.
I recently USB bricked my Desire, took me days to get it sorted despite following the guides to the letter. Can you access your SD card?
I ended up solving my problem by using a Vista laptop, which recognised my phone and allowed me to run the 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' command in SDK. Don't know why I couldn't get it fixed by using the various other OS.

Just want to check, has this problem made me loose my root? because the guides say to root the phone....
EDIT
i do have root, just installed ES file manager and i can go into the system folder etc... well im guessin that means im rooted?
EDIT
im a moron, you can delete this thread if you want mods.

[Q] USB connection error

Hi, today a have tried to root my htc desire using revoked 2 method. I was unable to install usb drivers. And now i cant even mount desire as hard drive. Computer still reports that device is unknown. I tried different usb ports, 2 different cabels, windows xp and seven. Before everything worked fine. Do you thing it is possible, that i damaged phone, when i plug it out just disconnecting cable?
Which version of unrEVOked did you try? I seems like a driver issue as you have to install the modified Hboot drivers for unrEVOked in a certain way before unrEVOked will work. If you attempted root with unrEVOked 3.21, did you follow the steps mentioned in thi thread?:

I used this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044
and I stuck at 3. point... On your phone, you will have to select HBOOT USB at that menu by pressing volume down four times, then power. Wait until the screen flashes through an “SD Checking” message before pressing buttons; otherwise, the phone will ignore keypresses.
and after that i am unable to connect desire to pc... no way...seems like something happend with usb driver in phone or i dont know...just i ve tried 3 computers for now and every reports same when I connect usb, that device is unknown
What Hboot do you have?
What is your PVT version? (also check the Bootloader for this info)
0.93.0001 and I forgot...I stucked at third point because i got there no option HBOOT USB

Ok, thank you for that info.
To tell you the truth, with unrEVOked 3.21, you must install the modified HBOOT drivers for it to work, otherwise it will not work at all.
Please try following this guide as it is definately requied. I asked you above if you had tried going through it, you mentioned that you had only tried using the guide in the first link, but you definately need to have the modified HBOOT drivers installed to proceed.

Try what is suggested and let me know if you can proceed past step three after configuring the HBOOT drivers first, as it is a must.

Hmm... yes i see what you mean. Unrevoked is fussy regarding drivers. Try the following:
1) Uninstall HTC Sync completely, the HTC Driver Setup, and HTC BMP Driver if present.
2) Reboot and reinstall the HTC Sync software (latest version).
3) Now uninstall HTC Sync Alone. Keep other two (HTC Driver Setup and HTC BMP Driver) installed.
4) Reboot your PC again.
Note: do not connect phone to PC at all and make sure the phone is switched off.
5) Switch your phone to the Bootloader screen. Connect the phone via USB and it should show Fastboot USB.
6) Windows will show the device detection dialog box - at this point, stop Windows from getting the driver from Windows Update, and manually choose the location of the driver as the folder where Unrevoked driver is present.
7) After this is done, diconnect phone again.
8) Go through the unrEVOked guide and connect the phone when advised to.
If this fails, then try unrEVOked 3.22 (in my sig below) and see how that goes and although you have mentioned that you have tried 3 different PC's, you may have to consider trying it on a different OS platform, such as Linux.

Try downloading the Android SDK: installer_r08-windows.exe
Follow the steps in this video to hopefully get the appropriate USB drivers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N66J6UiN5Pg&feature=player_embedded
EDIT:
With the phone connected, try the following afterwards:
Check to make sure that you have USB Debugging enabled on your phone.
In Device Manager, right-click your Unknown Android device and select 'Update Driver Software'. Browse to the folder (extract the zip to the Desktop) i have attached below and see if it installs them.

OK, i will try the thing with sdk..i am downloading files right now, but that makes no sense to download any other windows drivers. I agree... it is clearly an HBOOT driver issue or the phone... Windows (PC host) drivers are seperate. I was just running out of ideas really
The only definate way of knowing if it is the device that is causing this issue is if you were to try it on a non-Windows related OS, like Linux and maybe it would work for you using an Ubuntu Live CD.

Yes, because it is not as fussy with drivers as Windows is - with Windows, they have to be properly removed from its cache. With Linux, the phone should be detected ok (unless the phone is at fault).
Here is a simple guide that you can follow:

So, linux didnt work either, system didnt even recognize that anything was plug in. Even crossed fingers dident help Well only last thing I have to ask, if there is any possibility to recover hboot, restore it somehow. Forexample through recovery menu in hboot loader and some kind of .zip file, that i will put to SD card. If not, well I will have to step out to that freezing weather and walk to orange store for reclamation, which I hope would be positive for me, but something telling me it surely will.
I found something about usb unbrick here on xda forum, but is only for root phones
well i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9056719&postcount=15 i think it could work, just i dont know a way how to discover my CID number..to modify mtd0.img file
ok, i did everything step by step using rageagainstthecage tutorial, but nothing happend at all.
If anyone could help...
Are you able to get into Fastboot?
I suppose running your stock RUU in Hboot won't make a difference then... how about trying the PB99IMG method, which involves renaming the extracted rom.zip file to PB99IMG.zip from your stock RUU, placing this to the root of your SD card and then letting it run from Fastboot mode. This would restore your stock Hboot. You could also try AlphaRev's modified 0.93 HBOOT with S-OFF?

[Q] DHD root attempt / Unbootable DHD

Hey guys,
I tried to root my DHD, but it didn't go as as smooth as I expected and at the moment my DHD won't boot anymore.
First I would like to say I read the manual carefully several times, and I searched for a answer, I found some related problems but they were so different to my problem that I couldn't find any answers in it.
First I ran the AAHK, chose for a downgrade and then I got something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822347
Except, I got stuck at the HBOOT menu, and nothing happened. When I rebooted my phone, it worked just fine, but it wasn't downgraded.
I tried to repeat this proces a couple of times, but it didn't help.
But then, suddenly, it did work to start downgrading, but in the end it gave an error:
************* Downgrade failed *************
** Either:
** GoldCtixiard/SDCard failed
** USB connections are not working 100%
************* Downgrade failed *************
After my DHD rebooted, and after the HTC screen, it showed red exclamation mark/triangle. It is still like this, and my phone won't boot, but i'm still able to get in HBOOT.
It is somewhat like this, but I know i haven't downgraded.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134318
Some help would be greatly appriciated!
P.S.
I really tried to figure it out myself first, but after searching, reading and searching, I found no good answer. If anyone finds this annoying or offensive in any way, im sorry.
I think your sdcard is corrupted as a goldcard. Try a new one.
I checked the SD card. It reads and writes fine on Mac and PC.
The biggest problem is that i can't connect my DHD (in HBOOT) to AAHK using Mac. AAHK says ''Error detecting HTC phone on USB conncetion''
I also tried factory reset in HBOOT, but it didn't help.
Anyone got an idea?

For the connection, try a Linux LiveCD; I don't know anything about Macs. For the sdcard, whether it is corrupted for use as a goldcard does not affect whether you can access the data on it.
I'm not an expert, but aren't OSX and Ubuntu quite similar, regarding the environment? Nonetheless, I am going to try the Ubuntu LiveCD tomorrow!
Is there another solution so that i'm at least able to boot the phone normally?
Thanks for the help so far.

That is the stock recovery. You have on screen instructions that you are apparently not following. That will flash a RUU but first use tacoroot to achive temp root. All that is describe in the Hack Kit session on screen. You won't be able to flash a ruu from hboot unless there's a ruu for your phone and your main version and CID match.
The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind.....
At the moment i don't have any on screen instructions, because I cant connect my phone to my PC/Mac. AAHK says ''Error detecting HTC phone on USB conncetion''.
I'm trying to find a solution so that i can at least boot my phone again. I know I am new to this, but i'm trying to do my best..
So i cant connect to AAHK, what is the best way to fix this problem?

Paste here the INFOcidnum and INFOmain data. DO NOT PASTE your IMEI here.

I did just like you said. When I connect to the pc, fastboot usb is in red. I opened cmd as admin, typed, but nothing happened.
I get ( this is translated from Dutch ) :
"fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
When I plugged it in, my pc gave a message about a device being plugged in, but nothing happened after that.
I saved everything that happened in the terminal, when I attempted to root. Would that be of any help?

Do you have adb and fastboot installed? run the hack Kit once and let it install adb and fastboot.
I downloaded the Android SDK, wich I saw includes adb and fastboot
I typed fastboot getvar all, and then the cmd screen says waiting for device...
When I tried this before ( when I hadn't downloaded the android sdk ) nothing at all happened. So something must have changed for the better..
In the AAHK i still get ''phone not plugged in'''( windows )
However, when I boot the phone ( volume down + power ), after a few seconds it says:
PD89DIAG.ZIP
Loading...
No Image!
PD89IMG.ZIP
Loading
No Image! ( Or wrong image .. )
After that it returns to the standard menu..

Hack kit won't work from fastboot. Or your driver is not correctly installed or you have issues with USB connectivity. Uninstall the driver from control panel and then re install it with the device unplugged. Once it is installed, plug, the phone and let it install properly

Yes that might be helpful. If your main was lowered and you have temp root, that will take just a while to fix it. Otherwise will not be that easy. Do you mind If I have a look at it over teamviewer?

Device not detected in ADB, unable to boot into recovery

Hey guys,
So, I tried to turn my T-Mobile into a GPE. Everything went OK, pushed the RUU - and it hanged for a long time, so I quit out. Tried pushing it again, ADB not detecting the phone anymore - reinstalled drivers, rebooted everything - phone detected on pc as "My HTC", still no device detected in ADB. Rebooting the phone leads to the white HTC screen, booting into bootloader works but it's black for some reason, and I'm unable to boot into recovery - The OS text is red and reads "OS-3.32.531.2 (2.12.1700.1)". I've been trying to look for a solution for the past couple of hours but all the solutions require ADB to work, and all the solutions to get ADB to work are not solving it, so at this point I'm kinda stuck.
Any and all help would be appreciated greatly.
Thanks in advance!
I don't know if there's a t-mobile ruu available but if so, you can try and run that. I would simulate the battery pull first and then see if it recognizes it. From what you described for your os, mine would show that during the process of upgrading firmware
There is a T-mobile ruu in T-mobile one m8 general

Nope. It uses adb/fastboot.
Try uninstalling all HTC Sync and HTC drivers. Then plug the phone, go to Device Manager, find the device and select the option to manually select a driver, then pick Generic MTP Android Device (or something like that).
Also, bootloader screen on GPE is supposed to be black.
So I ran an RUU, it gives me an image error - I changed the CID earlier to install GPE, is that what might be causing the issue? If so, is there a way to change the CID without adb(Still can't get it to detect the phone)?

GPS lock and Lollipop problems

Hello wonderful helpful android wizards out there! I humbly seek your help.
I recently purchased an unlocked HTC M8 AT&T and had it unlocked so I could use my prepaid carrier (Simple Mobile). I have two issues I would like help with:
1) I cannot get a gps lock at all. I have made sure the device is in high accuracy mode and I have tried downloading and refreshing aGPS data via the GPS status app.
2) I am trying to upgrade to lollipop using the provided RUU file on the HTC website:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8/news/
I am currently running 4.4.2. I was hoping that upgrading to the latest firmware might solve my GPS problem as a bonus, though I obviously want lollipop anyway to just generally be up to date. HTC sync manager works fine, but when I run the RUU file, it says the phone is not connected. I have tried the PB99IMH solution posted here that seemed to work for many people:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1928439
The roadblock I have hit is that I cannot copy the zip file onto my Android. I keep getting the error "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." I can copy other file to the phone just fine. I tried fiddling with the permissions of the file, but I honestly don't really know what I'm doing with those.
So those are my problems. I would greatly appreciate any assistance.
While in fastboot/hboot mode. Is your device recognized?
Where you have adb installed just open up a command prompt and do "fastboot devices" ... If your device's serial number shows up then it's being recognized. If not then your drivers are not installed or not recognized.

Thank you for your response.
I never explicitly installed adb. I have sync manager on my computer, and I can see adb.exe in my processes. I tried to open up the command prompt and typed "fastboot devices" while my phone is in fastboot usb mode and nothing showed up. When I tried to run the RUU file while the phone was in fastboot, i never got beyond the "verifying information on your android phone. please wait..." part.
EDIT: I would also like to point out that sync manager doesn't recognize my phone in hboot or fastboot, thought it does recognize it normally.

It not being recognized while in the bootloader via the HTC Sync app is normal.
You could flash an RUU from the phone itself. Simply copy the rom.zip to your sdcard and go into the bootloader it'll see it and flash aslong as its named properly.. ie 0PB6IMG.zip or something in those lines.
To get the rom.zip while the RUU is open go into your task manager and right click the ruu process and go to file location. The only zip in there thats ~2Gbs is the rom.

Ok, i finally got the update to work, but I am still having GPS issues. Any ideas?
I am also having GPS issues. Everything else on the device works fine, it just never finds any satellites. Any help or updates would be nice.
I'm having GPS problems as well. I'm on CM12.1. It used to work fine, but I've been playing with it trying to get LTE to work, and somewhere in there, my GPS stopped locking.
