[Q] USB Mount THing Wont Work - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

it charges via computer and all that but it wont mount the sd so i can copy/move files frokm computer

Which Rom are you using....some of them are having USB mounting issues....I know one of at least one cyanogenmod nightlies is having issues from putting mexdroid or whatever it was called on my phone so I assume some more of the nightlies have issues but that is just an assumption. So yea that would be my best guess.

Need to know what ROM you're using, and did it work before you made any changes or has it never worked?

its stock rom... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836042...i downloaded the odex

when you connect your phone to your computer, drag down the notificatiom bar and select use device as "disk drive". this will mount your phone as you wish as a storage drive which is what allows you to use third party programs like doubletwist. there is also other options like pc sync and charge only, which is what you are stuck on.

thats the problem...it wont show anything on the notificationbar as it is supposed to...is there other ways i can reinstall original rom??

Im using mexdroind! And on mine in Windows 7 it shows all the drivers but my phone pops up as a MTP device??? Why is tthat and how do i fix it?

First tell us what you have done already. Which phone you have. Is it rooted. More info please so we can help you. Did you install the correct drivers on your PC, etc.

I think it could be your USB Debugging Mode. Enable it on your mobile.

I also would lke more info on what MTP device is.... and how to install the driver for it... cause I am hoping that would be a work around to solve the usb mount problems on flippy125 kernel untill he releases a new one... btw you can flash a different kernel like pershoots and it should go away and work fine..(then flash back!) Lol
Or just mount usb via recovery...

PC data transfer issues

I have upgraded to an S3 from having a Vibrant for years. I rooted and flashed several OS's to my Vibrant in those years without an issue ever. I have been trying to get files transferred to my S3 from my computer for 2 weeks now. The computer has the drivers installed correctly. It is recognized by name when I plug it in (it comes up as SGH-T999, Kies will recognize it too). whenever i try to transfer ANYTHING it stops in the middle of the transfer. just sits there with no further progress to be achieved. This is insanely frustrating. I am unable to root this thing because of the inability to actually transfer.
Things I have tried:
Uninstalling/reinstalling Kies multiple times
Uninstalling all USB device drivers multiple times
Reinstalling drivers through Kies and through Samsung's website multiple times
Factory reset on the phone multiple times (****ing aggravating btw)
Using my old Vibrant cable
Changing between MTP and camera mode... several times
Yelling at it
I have been trying to research how to fix this garbage for weeks now. there is no concrete way to remedy this problem that i have found. every thread about this is littered with the usual "uninstall your driver and reinstall it" nonsense that is the most generic response to anything tech related ever.
What I can tell you is that my phone is definitely getting recognized by anything that can do so. Odin, Kies, My computer, etc etc... it appears that the issue lies in the actual data transfer. As I mentioned, transfers initiate but will lock up mid-process and just hang there infinitely. Same goes with Odin when I try to get it to flash into CWM recovery.
Please, help. any time spent trying to fix this issue is greatly appreciated.
Are you uding the usb cable thst came with the phone?
Have you tried different cables? Or on another computer?
Im guessing your not rooted then?
Try installing the drivers ONLY. get them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728605
Uninstall previous versions of everything first.
What version odin are you using? Use 3.07 from above post if you're not already.
Also try this app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009
If you are rooted try SwiFTP or another wireless transfer app.
Sorry to mention drivers again but if you're relying on kies to do that for you it could be the issue.

Since you've tried everything else might as well follow this guide and install the drivers through the toolkit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28175575
I'd also run windows update and check if there's a new bios/drivers for your mobo and usb controller.
If you plug another "foreign" usb device does it install fine?
May not have any bearing whatsoever here but do you have usb debugging checked? And I think I mentioned it in the other post but try a different computer if possible.
You said that this happens when using odin too? As in you start the flash with Odin but it doesn't complete? Or it wont even start? Does it give you any message?
When plugged in in download mode, does Odin show your COM port in the upper left?
Plug in the phone and open device manager. Does it show any errors or anything?

I recommend an app called airdroid. I had issues transferring stuff to and from my Mac and haven't had any problems since I started using the program. Besides it's wireless so I don't have to worry about the wires being a problem

everything else works fine from my 6 USB ports (2 USB 3.0 ports as well). The tool kit solution still needs Odin to root. The problem is not detecting the device. it is the transferring of data. Data transfers begin but that's about it. Odin gets to "firmware update start" and then "boot.img" and just hangs there forever. no change. nothing else.
Is there a wireless way to do this? I have purchased Rom Manager but since i can't achieve root it is just useless now. The phone is brand new from the Tmobile store. Not once has it been dropped (to put into perspective how careful i am with my devices, I managed to drop my Vibrant once in ~3 years, which caused no damage, what a great phone that was). I have not been able to read about this same issue anywhere else either...generally its an issue with the PC not recognizing the device but when someone gets it to link up correctly, it works. this is the opposite.
thank you for your ideas so far.

Odin shows the "0:COM" like it should, which means it is able to read that the device is there, it just is unable to do anything after "boot.img", everything that is needed for this to work via the toolkit method is checked (USB debug and unknown sources).
I just got the s3 and had transfer issues too. Turns out my s2 drivers wasn't perfect for it even though it recognizes the device. I used the s3 drivers instead and that helped things a bit with accessing my phone's storage. So i ended up formatting my internal storage and that seems to do the trick for me.
If that doesn't work and odin still gets stuck then try different usb ports also try different wires

Try connecting without the external sdcard in.
What build are you currently on. Since you haven't roited or anything im assuming you're still on either UVALEM or UVALG1. If so try initiating the software update. It should download the ota thatll take you up to UVALH2. Maybe that'll help.

Did you do that through terminal? doesn't the single partition mean that it would wipe everything?
Make sure the drivers you are using are the same ones that are in my comment (version).
What are you trying to flash through Odin? If the permissions of the files inside the tar file are not correct, the transfer will hang, and do nothing but give a timeout message after a couple minutes. I learned this the hard way.
In summary:
Use a different USB cable.
Download drivers, Odin, and CWM from my signature. After uninstalling the old drivers manually through devman (be sure to delete them during uninstall), reinstall them from the package you downloaded. Then use Odin to flash CWM. All three of these packages are tested and known to be 100% working. Please don't ignore this step. If I can't verify the validity of your installation sources, I can't rule this out for troubleshooting purposes.
If this doesn't work, it is most likely your computer. Are there any BIOS firmware updates that improve USB compatibility, or USB controller driver updates? The USB 3.0 isn't natively supported on =< Win7, so those are third party drivers. But I will assume you are connected to a USB 2.0 port.

None of that worked. BUT i do have Ubutnu running on my comp in conjunction with Win 7 Ultimate 64. can't seem to find too much on non-international S3 stuff for linux.
this has consumed my entire day and i am so frustrated.
Try in safe mode? This sounds really frustrating. I gave up when this happened with my mac. I think someone said it already but I always recommend Airdroid. It's just simpler.

so let me get this straight... you plugged the phone in, right clicked on it in a browser window, clicked on format, selected yes to the "hey, this is going to erase everything on the device" warning pop up, and you were able to transfer files no problem after that? no adverse side effects came from this? it sounds like it would brick the phone...

Yeah I'm starting to think you might need to use a different computer. Odin detects so it's not drivers.
From my experience with the hangs when i was on the s2. Many also reported this but what helped was different usb ports, wires, or an entirely different computer.

[Q] Can someone help me. I need to access the SD Card on my bricked HTC One X

Hello people, this is my first post and an urgent one at that.
Pretty much what has happened is I have one of the most recent Cyanogen Mod 10 ROMS for my HTC One X and while I was browsing the phone turned off. I tried to turn it on but it refused and I had to do the plug into computer and quickly switch to power supply trick to get it working, before I figured out who to do that I managed to get into the bootloader > CWM and reinstall the ROM. It crashed while installing that ROM causing the problem I believe I have now.
My problem is this:
I have a corrupt ROM and I can't get into my SD card to be able to reinstall it. I have no idea how I can access it, everytime I plug my usb into the pc it detects an unknown device and doesn't go further. I've played around with adb and that won't detect my device either, I need a way to get this working again. All I need is to mount my SD and then I can fix it myself.
Thanks for any help people can contribute.

t999v with no OS

Hello everyone,
I've searched around the forums but have yet to come across anyone with my exact set of problems.
Phone is a Samsung t999v on the Wind network.
I believe the problem started when a restore was done from a back up with no system information. TWRP tells me there is no OS on the phone.
As there isn't an OS zip file on the hard drive I cannot flash from internal card.
Odin 3.04 fails to add tar file of stock rom after repeated attempts.
drivers will not load with G s3 toolkit allowing phone to be recognized.
Connecting the phone to PC while in TWRP or even in download mode and the PC (Windows 7 ultimate wink wink) will show in devices as a modem but doesn't show up in "my computer". Drivers failed to load is the message after connecting the phone.
Last working OS was the latest AOKP build two.
I hoping someone can help me out. I do feel that this information is probably on here somewhere but I've searched with no luck.
I really trying to get an OS onto this phone and hope I haven't screw it up for a friend of mine. These forums have helped do some good works with my phone and phones of my friends that I guess I ended up thinking I knew more than I did. I should have stock with clockworkr which didn't have the option to back up without system. safer for a dummy.
I appreciate any and all comments.
nur.

Yes I can download them from the website but at times the device is still not recognized. For some reason this happens with all my Samsung products. My PC often time does not recognize them. It started months ago with my 10.1 Tab and them my i727 and this t999v. I have to contect the usb and disconnect several time before they'll connect even changing ports. But now they don't connect at all.
Since you have twrp, why don't you just flash a ROM?

I would love to but how do I get the ROM on to the phone? The phone is not being recognized by computer. I have an sd car but my other samsung phone isn't recognized by the pc either.
Uninstall the drivers you have installed (the Samsung ones) and uninstall Kies if you have that installed.
Install the drivers from my signature. They are an older version. I use them because all of the newer ones do exactly what you are describing. The PC won't see the device, etc.
If all else fails buy a card reader. One of the 10+ in 1 sd card readers. Probably should have one of those anyway; just a thought.

Thanks for the advise. I'm going to go grab a micro sd reader now, hopefully. The drivers from your signature didn't fail to install as well. Can anyone think of what the source of the issue is. I followed all the steps exactly and the problem still persists. KIES fails at installing drivers and same happens when I connect the phone. The only place I can there being an error was that I replaced and copied the files in Windows INF as the new files had the same names as the old ones. Might be worth a shot but it doesn't seem likely that it's a cable issue. The cable is effectively new and PC does recognize that I'm connecting a device.

Been there done that and have always eventually been able to get it back so the computer sees the device as mtp. Wugs toolkit has always been helpful
To me. I like the step by step directions for manually updating the drivers and configuring them correctly in adb AND fastboot.
Bit I have come to an impass..........I am currently on the latest carbon nightly, with f2fs file storage for data and cache. My computer will not recognize the device in mtp and I am unable to pass files with a USB cable. I am wondering if my computer has to be compatible with f2fs, because iam sure that it is not. this worked for me im just passing along a possible fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383146&page=389 post #3888 is the one I followed and been no problems since. also cpl days before in my sdk program google had updated drivers which may or may not have played a roll. before this I could not pass files with mtp only ptp would allow my device to appear. hope it helps!
edit also should note I did device manager then android devices removed drivers in there. plugged in n7 and the adb composite interface drivers installed and that was it. if that doesn't do it make sure sdk has updated google driver which should be 10.0.0 or something don't quite remember exact #

this worked for me im just passing along a possible fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383146&page=389 post #3888 is the one I followed and been no problems since. also cpl days before in my sdk program google had updated drivers which may or may not have played a roll. before this I could not pass files with mtp only ptp would allow my device to appear. hope it helps!

Hi, Mates,
anyone can help to solve my problem ?, the problem is
My Note 2 is not dictating in comptuter but it is charging, I have tried the below solutions but none solved my problems
1. Cables changed - Not dictating
2. Connected in Different PCs (Window 7 & XP) - still not dictating
3. Kies - uninstalled and installed, different type of Samsung to PC software used - still not dictating
4. Flashed with full wipe - all top ROMS for note 2, - not dictating pc in any ROMS.
5. Flashed original stock firmware through ODIN - still not dictating phone with computer
Pls help to me solve my problem for pc connecting, except the above.
please share your knowledge for this matter
I think you mean "detecting", not "dictating".
I'm a little confused though... You say it's not detected on any PC, but you're able to flash with ODIN? If so, then your phone IS being detected or that wouldn't work either...
So what exactly is the problem?
If you flashed a rom through odin there is nothing wrong with your usb, check your drivers in device manager on windows if it was installed properly.

Sorry for misspelled, phone not detecting in computer for normal mode but it is charging. And also download mode it is connected with computer in ODIN and flashed stock firmware as well as different types of recovery (Philz, Cwm, twrp ) . I Think some internal usb settings file erased ?. Is any internal setting in phone except rom cause all the rom I tried. In all rom it is not detecting. No problem in computer because all other Samsung phone works well. I have formated and reinstall all the drive for my computer.

Well, I was going to suggest that you have a USB driver conflict, but if you reinstalled Windows, that's less likely.
When you reinstalled, did you install ANY other USB drivers first? What version of Windows are you running? Is it up upgrade install, or clean?

OK, that's a little clearer. So your phone won't detect in any computer you've tried, but others do? Are you using the same cable for all?
Sounds to me like you might have a problem with the USB port that just isn't affected by download mode.

This is what im talking about, seeing that you have exhausted all your options im guessing this is the only thing that could be causing your issue.

I concur with express21, it's likely your USB port.
Are you still within warranty? if not, and you're feeling up to it, it's not an expensive repair...

Note that each pin on the usb flex carries out a different function so its your choice if you want to change it.
