Hi I'm having an issue with my Evo. It's rooted through unrevoked3 I tried flashing a file that was supposed to up the battery voltage to overclock the processor. Unfortunately I'm a noob and more than likely did this wrong now the phone won't load past the "HTC Evo 4g" loading screen. I can access the bootloader but anytime I choose recovery it goes to a sceen with a pic of the phone and a caution symbol over it. When I press the vol up + vol down + pwr it brings me to rexovery options. Last twist I swear, that screen only stays up for 2 or 3 seconds then blank screen and stuck on the "HTC Evo 4g" basically the only file I can seem to get to run on this is PC36IMG.zip unfortunately it doesn't seem to help. I would greatly appreciate any help in this matter, thanks
(FYI very new to this so any extra tips would be great as well)
Place on the root of your sdcard, do not rename or extract it, boot into bootloader, apply the update and reboot, reboot into the bootloader and go into recovery, and you'll be on amon_ra 2.3. That symbol you saw was you were trying to go into recovery, and you did, just no recovery image was loaded.
Thanks
thank you that worked and I can get to the recovery now. I hate to ask because im sure this is a noob question but kinda nervous about what rom to use in recovery to stop the boot loop... any suggestions?
Not a noob question, but bootlooping is typically caused by flashing and a proper wipe wasn't done. If you want AOSP, I recommend CM7/Destroyer [based off of CM7]. For sense, Myn, King's Ultra have high reps. Always wipe your cache, factory/data, and dalvik before installing a new rom.
Edit: having deja vu about reading and replying to this exact thread.
If Thas a noob question then I hate to see what they would say if they read my question I just posted...lol about ignoring nice loads etc...
Gees!!! Lol

Hi all. I do not post much on here and am relatively new with this so please bear with me if it is in the wrong forum and if I explain something that is worded incorrectly.
I rooted my phone following the 2 part video series I found on here and all was going well until I tried to place the following theme on it:
[THEME] MattedBlues - CM 6.0.0 and Sense 2.2 Versions *UPDATED 09/13/2010*
I rebooted after flashing it through the recovery screen and cannot get it to boot into the home screen at all. As stated in the title, I see the Sprint splash screen and then the 4G screen to start. It then sits there for a few seconds and then starts back at the Sprint splash screen again.
Any help would be appreciated as to what I can do to get back to where I was and also possibly tell me what I may have done wrong to cause this.
Thanks in advance!

You need to pull the batter hold down the volume button and hold the power boot into recovery. Go to USB mode copy over another ROM and reflash. OR restore the backup you should have performed before you flashed the theme being new I doubt you did this step.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Yes, you are right...being a noob I did not do the backup but believe me once I get this back up and running, that will be the first thing I do!
About your other suggestion, I tried to reflash with the unrevoked-forever and it still keeps doing the same thing. Should I wipe the cache out and reflash or is that not the problem here? Also, what other ROM would you suggest to be a good starter for someone new such as I am?
Thanks again!
Well, I decided to do a data wipe and reflash with a different Rom and it is now working.
Thanks!

I am experiencing the same problem. using clockworkmod v2.0.2.3 how do you get to usb mode?
Hi all. First let me begin by saying I'm NOT new to rooting and I have a pretty good knowledge of what I'm doing.
Here is my problem. I WAS rooted before, and used Rom Manager/Clockwork to preform Nandroid backups etc.
I recently received a replacement EVO (cracked housing) and wanted to root again, which I have, with SU permissions and S-OFF using the latest version of unrEVOked. (this is after the December update to 3.70 with hboot 2.10) No problem with rooting, however when I want to do a nandriod back up, thru Rom Manager, (or alternative methods) I get stuck on the white EVO boot screen. I CAN NOT boot into recovery? Weird right?
EDIT: When I try to enter recovery in any fashion, it hangs on the white EVO screen...forever until I do a battery pull.
EDIT: Sorry, I CAN enter bootloader, however once there, I attempt to enter "recovery" and it bounces me back to the menu. This happens both via ROM Manager and the traditional way of "POWER" button and "Vol Down".
EDIT (again): Okay..I used Amon RA to preform a nandroid back up,(which worked) and now I'm stuck in a bootloop! Ugh! Trying to restore my Nanadroid backup using RA..hopefully that works and I can revert back to Clockwork.
Jesus...
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Let me know what you do to fix it. I'm just going to put the 3.7 RUU on sd card and restore to default? Here is the link. Hopefully this works.
http://goo-inside.me/evo/stock/RUU/
I have the exact same problem!!!! I cannot boot into recovery! It throws me back to the main hboot screen. It freezes when I try to do a recovery and I need to return this stupid phone because it keeps freezing and re-starting on it's own and I've tried flashing the oem rom many times already. I have "s-off" and Sprint will know I've rooted the phone ... please help!!
I just get stuck with the evo screen but like all of you i can not get to recovery... any ideas
Do you guys have working ROMs on your phones and just can't get into recovery? Or can you not boot up at all?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G with Tapatalk
Looks like your recovery didn't flash. Put this file on the root of your sdcard, boot into the bootloader and select yes to update, the reboot. This installs CWM 3.0+.
I'm in a similar situation after initially using Unrevoked, and I've tried flashing AmonRa and Clockwork from a PC36IMG.zip. Neither has gotten me a recovery screen.
Beyond that I can't seem to get a ROM to boot more than once. I can install ROMs with varying degrees of success, but invariably a reboot leads to the phone simply hanging at the white HTC EVO 4G screen. Flashing a new ROM generally works. Once. But then I'm constantly afraid of my phone rebooting for any reason, and I know it'll mean that I have to wipe the bastard and start all over again.
Any suggestions on the recovery issue? Perhaps fixing that will fix my reboot problems.

Try installing clean, wipe everything. With TB, backup the apps, ect. When you restore, restore only apps and data, not system settings.
Just to be sure I 'wipe everything' properly, which steps are you suggesting? Should I choose Clear Storage from the bootloader menu?
Just for clarification, I've tried to RUU several times and it has not fixed the issue.
I just used a modified HBOOT to allow me to erase my recovery, system, and userdata partitions via fastboot. After that, I flashed AmonRa 2.3 in Bootloader and it worked! I now have a working AmonRa recovery. I'm attempting to flash CM7 now, and I'll let you know if that works.
I can't take credit for thinking of this, I used someone else's guide, but I'll happily post the software and the steps if people are interested.
The fix was apparently temporary. The attempt to flash CM7 led to my Evo hanging at the white screen after rebooting.
The only way I've managed to boot into a ROM is pretty crazy... I flash the 3.70 RUU from a PC36IMG.zip version at bootloader, then I flash clockworkmod, then I flash SprintLover's ROM. If I flash in that sequence, I can get SprintLover's to work, but it will hang at the white evo 4g screen if I reboot. It's insane!
Anyone have any advice? This **** is bananas.

What I have done so far:
(the good):
#1 I used the "clear storage" from hboot and it works.
#2 I re-flashed "RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed" from my PC via USB and this works too! It gets the phone back to factory settings wiping out everything and booting up normally.
(the bad):
#1 The phone still freezes and turns off sporadicly.
#2 I have lost root BUT the HBOOT screen still shows security is off (S-OFF) so still I cannot return the phone to Sprint!
(the ugly):
#1 From the "HBOOT" screen I choose "FASTBOOT" which takes me to the "FASTBOOT" menu, from there I choose "BOOTLOADER" and it throws me back to the "FASTBOOT" menu creating an endless loop.
#2 From the "HBOOT" menu I choose "RECOVERY" and it re-starts but it than freezes at the white HTC EVO 4G screen. I then have to take the battery out to re-boot the phone. Again another loop!
Any Ideas or any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever Jump down to Q&A and download the S-ON tool. You need to load up a recovery image, CWM or amon_ra and flash that ^ then re-run the 3.70 RUU and you should be set.
i am new to the forum and i am looking for some help i have a htc desire unbranded and it is stuck on the htc splash screen it is on hboot 0.93 and i have tried downgrading but it keeps coming up main version is older i can get into fast boot but not recovery i have been reading a lot of threads but cannot figure it all out as there is so much information i'm chasing my tail tail lol if anybody can help me i will be very grateful.
Why are you trying to downgrade? You could use an RUU as a quick fix but it will wipe everything. You haven't given any details of what you tried to do or are wanting to do.
i believe i have to downgrade to hboot 0.83 to get the phone to work but im not sure i have tried a lot of ruu's but cant seem to find the right one i'm very confused by it all to be honest i'm stuck as to what to do
It would also be helpful, if you used a little bit more correct grammer (putting punctuation between each sentence) as much as possible. Some of us, can't understand what you're talking about. This isn't FB or an sms
Also, it would help. if you said exactly what you did, and how you got into this situation. Ie; flashes, etc.
For example, are you rooted? Were you trying to flash a custom ROM?
htc stuck on boot up
Sorry i am not the greatest writer. I was on 2.1 and upgraded ota to 2.2.then the phone started resetting itself. before not booting altogether.i am currently on rom image 2.29.405 hboot 0.93 .and thats as far as i know.
htc stuck on boot up
The phone just hangs on the white htc screen.and wont go into recovery.
First of all, you have a desire. Before running any update, you need to create a Gold Card. It's not specific to "all" desires. But, better safe than sorry.
http://www.droid-den.com/android-guides/android-guide-how-to-create-a-gold-card
To boot into recovery the manual way, turn phone off.
Hold volume down, and press the power button.
This should boot to recovery.
If you get the Triangle, with exclamation mark,
press Vol Up + Power
This will bring you to another recovery menu where you can : Reboot , Flash from sd , Wipe Data/factory ,Wipe Cache
If you can recover the system, I highly suggest creating the Gold Card.
And one more note, if you decide to flash to a stock RUU, I highly recommend wiping all cache memories before flashing. Yeah, I know they will tell you that it's not necessary, but hey, I believe in overkill.
htc stuck on boot up
That's the thing it wont go into recovery, I can go into boot loader and fast boot but when i press up and power it goes back to the htc screen and hangs there again, i have tried a ruu which seemed to be successfull but it still hangs on the htc screen and will go no further.
If you can't get into any type of recovery, just how are you able to flash?
Bear with my stupidity here.
Without a menu system in any type of recovery, I am at a loss.
However, I have heard, that, some people put their phones in the freezer for several minutes. And that the phone would boot. Enogh where they col=uld goto recovery, and fix what they messed up.
Now, I would suspect it;s because the processor was overheating during boot. Probably because cache memories weren't wiped before flashing, and crap got all messed up.
Normally, I would never suggest this. And you do this at your own risk. So if it's messed up beyond repair, please, do not blame me,
htc stuck on boot up
I went into fastboot usb then ran the 2.29.405 ruu which completed successfully,i even extracted the pb99img.zip file and updated that way but still no luck, ill throw it in the freezer for 5 and give it a whirl, who knows might work. and thank you
The freezer thing, is a last ditch effort. And it is only a temporary thing. 15 minutes max. Maybe enough to allow you to clear caches and flash.
I have run out of expertise. So, I have nothing more to offer...
So I flashed the "Synergy" rom and noticed that I didnt have the 3d carousel effect after letting the rom run for 2 days. I then noticed another download for the rom with the 3d effect. After flashing that rom I am now stuck on the splash screen. I can also no longer boot into recovery. I am able to access the bootloader but that's it. I cant access nothing on my phone.
Find it odd that you cannot get into Recovery. Are you pulling battery, then holding power and down key?
Yep... Ive pulled the battery several times, and tried accessing the recovery by holding power and the down button.. All it does is restart at the splash screen and stays..
Did you wipe prior to flashing ? Never had that issue so what happens when you click on recovery in the boot loader.
You said in the first post that you can access the boatloader, but in your next post, you say starting your phone with vol down and power takes you to your splash screen... this is an important piece of info for me/us to know in order to help, give advice.
If it goes to the boatloader, try reflashing a custom recovery. If it's going straight to your splash screen, that is a result of " fastboot" being enabled in the settings menu, and you're holding your phone wrong and have to wait longer ( up to 10 minutes) as it can take a while to build the dalvik cache and set up the symlinks.
Tower, this is SkyRaider requesting a fly-by...
Flash a custom recovery pc36img.zip in bootloader. When done boot into recovery and factory wipe. Then partition your sd with 1024mb ext2, move ext2 to ext3. Flash synergy and u should be good. Backup ur sdcard before partitioning it.

It's one of two things... bad wipe or user is just impatient and isn't used to the longer initial boot time of the sense 3.0 roms, so panic sets in after 2 minutes of boot

Ok here's my process fellas and this is whats happening (or not happening). Phone is stuck on the SPLASH screen. I can hold the volume down button and power and get into the bootloader. Here's what Ive tried so far thats not working for me. Trying to go into recovery through the bootloader takes me back to a stuck SPLASH screen. Ive installed a PC36IMG.zip (Custom recovery) and when the HBoot looks for the file it doesnt see it. The file doesnt have zip.zip as the extension and the MD5checksum was good on the file. When I installed the rom I did do a full wipe and when i hit restore it took me to my SPLASH screen and stayed there longer than 10 minutes. I flashed plenty of roms and this is the 1st time ive been at this point where im unable to boot my phone. I suspect the recovery is broken
and as of now, there is no other way (that i know of now) for me to load a custom one into my phone.
I also tried to push the file via adb and when entering the command adb shell, i get a device cannot be found message.
Hope this helps you guys help me.
I'm now having the same problem with my Thunderbolt. I need some major help. I can boot into bootloader, but not recovery because I have a p50IMG.zip on my sd card...so it just scans it and asks to install...how do I get it off of the card?
I used the GN Toolkit V2.2 to unlock the bootloader, after installing the adb drivers via PDANet. I flashed Clockwork Mod on as well, and was going to install the Android Revolution ROM. I thought I had already copied the zip file to the internal storage, but when I tried to flash it from inside CWM, it said no files were found. (May have copied it before wiping device, I can't remember). So I restarted so I could copy the zip file again and then flash it. However when starting, it seemed to be stuck on the startup screen, with all the flashing blocks of color fading in and out. After a while stuck on there I couldn't do anything so I did a battery pull to restart. At this point, I can start normally or into recovery mode. If I try to start normally, (or go into recovery mode and choose restart from the submenu), it shows the black screen with the white Google logo, and the unlocked icon, stalls for a few seconds, then does a short vibrate and reloads the logo again. It will keep doing this and not go any further. I tried doing an additional data wipe from recovery mode but that didn't help, and I tried to do USB mount from recovery mode, hoping to copy the Revolution zip file and flash it over, but it couldn't mount. I'm starting to panic a little bit, did I brick or otherwise mess my phone up? What can I do? Any help is REALLY appreciated.
Thanks so much and I hope this is the right forum.
I dont have the answer but I wanted to post to calm you. This happens a lot.....multiple times to me on my android devices. You live and learn next time, do a backup in cwm before wiping data and flashing new stuff
Im sure someone will post shortly to solve your problem
Well ok that is reassuring thanks. I downloaded the Google factory ROM from the code.google.com and was able to flash that on my phone with GN Toolkit. It is trying to boot right now, still on the colorful screen. I think maybe I didn't give it enough time last time around? At least I'm past the black and white logo screen. So I'll let it sit for a few minutes and see what happens.
Edit: I let it run for a couple minutes, and it blacked the screen for a sec, showed the white Google logo again, and then went into the colorful startup screen again. I think it's working now so that's a relief.
If someone finds this thread in the future with a similar issue: Don't battery pull during start up and be patient if you don't want to freak yourself out haha. But as spitefulcheerio said, it will be okay so just don't panic. Thanks again.
Make sure you do a Factory Reset in STOCK recovery after unlocking the bootloader. THEN install CWM. learned that one the hard way. skipped a step after doing the oem unlock.
Yes, first time will take awhile on the boot animation.
And, as long as you see the google logo, you are ok, even if it freezes on that. They designed this phone to be easy

To provide some technical details on why it takes longer the first boot and appears to "hang" at boot animation ...
During the boot animation, the /data/dalvik-cache directory is built up for each application loaded on the device. This occurs during the very first boot. If the /data partition is wiped, the dalvik-cache directory is also wiped and will have to be rebuilt on the first boot. All subsequent boots will be quicker as this directory has already been populated.
Whenever loading a new ROM or performing the fastboot oem unlock command, the /data partition is generally wiped which takes with it dalvik-cache and results in the delayed initial boot time while the dalvik-cache directory is re-populated.
Hope that makes sense and fills in a few blanks on the why Android appears to "hang" at the boot animation during first boot after the /data partition is erased or the /data/dalvik-cache directory is erased.
