Why does my gps icon keeps flashing? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The gps icon on my DHD keeps flashing, even if I close (or kill) all applications using gps. I suppose that this uses battery power. Does anyone have a solution?

If you have it always on, locations uses it for weather data. Just turn it off in settings, and activate when needed

its flashing cause its trying to get a lock. YEh just shut it off untill you want to use it

alternatively, do you have HTCSENSE running in the background?? if yes, then it may be trying to locate you for syncing purposes.

Desire Network Connection

Hi
i would like to know if its possible to turn off the gprs connection and only use it when weather app needs it and then switch it off again
i have seen a few settings but cant understand them properly
one is always on and the other is mobile network(or somthing simular).
i have turned always on to off and left the other on.
also the pre installed weather app doesnt save my setting to update automatically, is this a bug, manual update doesnt work at all unless using wifi.
thanks
anyone messed around with my issue
Temporary fix. I don't even have my Desire yet but I've seen on pretty much all Android phones a widget which will let you turn on and off each of the radio's (WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS... etc.) by hitting the corresponding button, much faster than going into settings and turning them all off manually...

[Q] Best APP to turn on WIFI based on location

Does anyone know what app is the best for turning on WIFI based on your location?
I don't know about best, but I've been playing around lately with Profile Valet. It's free, and you can setup different profiles using all kinds of different qualifications. You can set it up using locations as well.
I'm sure someone will suggest Tasker but it would be overkill if this is all you're wanting to do. I used to use Wapdroid for turning wifi on and off and it worked really well for me.
Totally gonna give Profile Valet a try.
Locale.....
here is a question:
why have an app/service running in the background, with access to (i.e. enabling) GPS for location, to do what you can do in a second by using the power control widgets?
100% of the time I turn wifi on and off by location, as you want the app to do. except i do it myself, all i have to do is drop my notification bar down and press one button...simple, and nothing running in the background or gps eating away at your battery
profile valet has a lot of potential but it didn't work that well for me.
I have not used it in a while but it may have gotten better

Because I don't want to do it myself. When I walk into my office (which has crappy Sprint coverage and a locked down WiFi network) my WiFi shuts off, my roaming kicks over to Verizon, and my ringer drops to vibrate. The moment I walk out of my office my ringer comes back to life, my WiFi restores, and I jump back on the Sprint network.
Yes, I could do that myself with a few clicks... but why bother when a program exists which can do it for me.
I've used Y5 for quite a while. It's free in the market, does exactly what you want, and it works very well.

[Q] How do I get the damn GPS to work on a mate's Desire Z?

Hey all. I have a mate who bought a HTC Desire Z (S-OFF,already rooted, running CWM at the time, and an updated ROM), and I have just about tried everything to get the GPS to work. I have flashed the latest TMoUS G2 radio/rcdata (26.13.04.19), wiped the EFS, put the Andromadus GPS fix on there, installed Andromadus Mimicry ROM – version 1.5.0, installed the Engineering HBOOT, reinstalled the ROM, and still the stupid GPS still won't lock onto a single satellite. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance
Do you have a data plan or/and a wifi connection, with your DZ?
The A-GPS is much more quick to fix in this case, otherwise it can take several minutes...

I currently have no SIM for the phone, but I am using my home wifi for net connection. I left the phone out about 10 minutes, but it still is searching for a GPS signal.
You've probably tried that already, but still...
Install "GPS Status" app from store, it' free. Disable data connection. Power down the phone and take battery out. Next get into open area, put battery back in and power it on. Then launch GPS Status and let it work for some time, may take a while - 10 to 20 minutes. There is an option in this app settings to keep screen on, use that.
And make note of what happens on the screen, after some time green points should start appearing, those are sattelites.
If that won't work - try again with data connection on.

Problems with GPS and navigation

I have been flashing ROMs on my SGS3 for about 3 months now and I have recently ran into an issue where I can't get my GPS to lock on when I use navigation or anything for that matter. I want to fix this but I don't know where to start. I tried some things that others have told me like: like flashing back to stock, unrooting, and using GPS status to fix it but it still won't work. If someone could help, I'd appreciate it, thanks.

i had the same problem with gps. go to settings - location access- and make sure its on, gps satellites and wifi/mobile network are checked . GPS source should be "use internal GPS". after that stay in settings and go to accounts- google-location settings- "let Google apps access your location" set to on. i hope this helps

Is there a way to check what app is trying to use gps?

Up until last week my gps would lock quickly and would not show up in the notification bar unless I was running an app that requires location services
Now gps is constantly searching for a gps signal and it takes a lot longer for the gps to lock
Is there anything I can use to see what is trying to use a gps signal? I've tried closing out of my process but it keeps going. I've tried restarting my phone and while it seems to work a few minutes later it's back

try this:
In settings, turn developer options off if it's on
Turn GPS and everything is location and services (in settings) off
Go into google services framework in applications, settings, and clear data
Go into maps, delete updates if any and clear data aswell
Reboot the phone
Update google maps (very important)
Reboot
Turn on GPS and everything in location and services in settings
what version of android are you running? recently update to JB?
Sometimes GPS status app works for me or try the above posted method as it almost always works
