[Q] Bypass Incredible request for Phone Number - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A friend gave me his used HTC Incredible. It is a Verizon phone however they are not my current carrier. I would like to be able to use this phone, with my WiFi connection, by trying out all of its features (those that don't use a data plan, etc of course).*
What has happened so far:
Got the phone and the power completely drained*
Recharged phone*
Upon starting up the phone listed 3 choices (I believe they were reformatting options)
I believe I chose "clear" or something similar, as I wanted my friend's info removed anyway
Phone now requests my (Verizon I assume) phone number before allowing me to access anything further. I noticed that there is a keyboard option when entering the phone number... Is there an access code that will bypass the phone's request for my number??*
Any other suggestions? Thank you, in advance, for your help with this. I'm baffled...

[Q] Phone access question - root or not.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. My brother is a military guy, redeployed, and he gave me his droid 2 since he wont need it for a year. I am considering switching over from my droid one which brings us to my question.
I would like to demo this phone out with all his apps and games(ex not hard resetting it) before I commit to losing my upgrade reward with verizon.
He has a screen lock on his phone(which I assume is the standard one) Ive tried all his usual passwords, with no avail. He didnt have usb debugging enabled, which Im not sure would help. So whenever I usb up nothing happens other than it showing "usb connected" on the phone.
It has no service, I cant enable wifi, I cant access it via usb (maybe). How do I access this phone?
Im running Karmic, xp, and 7.
Who has some ideas?

HTC One X - screen broke, access via MHL.

Hi guys!
This is definitely something weird and I can all but guarantee you havn't come across something like this before!!
Ok so, my friend broke his HTC One X, cracked the screen, but it still works. - he just wants the data off it.
Now, i have an MHL cable, plugged that in, rebooted the phone and went from there...the only issue is it boots in landscape. so when we pull the ring to unlock the device, because of poor software in the phone it just FILLS the whole screen with an "emergency call" massive button, but the emergency call text is skewered to the left hand side of the phone. Thus, we cannot enter his username and password into the input fields to give him his access back to his phone!!
Although funnily enough, the phone mysteriously loaded up once in portrait (so we could imagine the keyboard on the screen), but after 100 of attempts its not giving it us again, which means we cant enter his gmail user and pass in again!
Infact, when it did load up in portrait, we entered his gmail address and password, pressed sign in...PATIENTLY WAITED...and said the password was incorrect! FUUUUUU. Also, data is disabled on his phone (maybe why it fired the issue with it saying password was incorrect), and now we're back to square one, trying to get the phone to load up in portrait.
I recall, back when i had my Galaxy S2, that i once flashed a kernel to the device and it would mysteriously remove the password...the only issue we have with this is that the HTC One X, (if it does boot to recovery), doesn't display through MHL, so we can't flash anything to the phone anyway!! basically TOTAL lockout!
So guys...any assistance at all, because he's deeply upset the fact he's going to lose all of his files!!

If you're asking for a method to bypass security, and access an accounts information on a device, I am definitely NOT happy divulging any means to do so.
No-one should ever ask for, nor should anyone ever provide, the means of bypassing any security, logging into any accounts, or accessing device data.
No offence, but you could be anybody and this device could have been acquired by any means.

Im asking for a method to force the screen to display in portrait!
After doing a bit of research ive noticed a lot of people would come to this conclusion, any assistance at all in WHY the username and password for my friends gmail account allows us to sign in via google, but NOT on the ONE x, even though its the only email address in use on the phone!
is there any way at all in putting the phone into a recovery mode of sorts, maybe via the emergency dial pad?
Understandably there is a lot of confusion/anger towards this subject, but when it comes to 2 people trying to get into a device that is their own...any reasonable suggestion is welcome!!
You could always unlock the bootloader and use a custom recovery then mount the phones as mass storage there.
However this would void is warranty then again it depends how he broke the screen.
It maybe booting portrait as it thinks it's in a dock you tried without the cable?

Hey!!
Thanks for the idea but we can't tell if its booted in recovery even with the necessary key combo to get it into that mode...we're running out of ideas...im really annoyed that the user and pass for his gmail didnt actually let him in the phone...what other email address would google keep as a backup to confirm he is the owner of the phone?!
Also, the screen is completely destroyed, the digitizer however works lovely!
Alas, any more ideas? x

if you're connected to a network it should work fine with a gmail/pass however if you can't actually see how do you know what you're typing or even if you are typing?

Well I tried several display options but upon opening my Exs phone which she decided to stiff me on a 2 year contract and run over the phone with a car. The main board was broken and the digitizer and screen were broken... I had access to a working HTC one X so I took the motherboard, battery assembly reconnected into the working shell with the functional main board and voila! All info and in my case lies revealed... There is also a rainbow table available with an app on Git Hub that will circumvent any password on the phone using a Dual Mini Usb go cable I believe, it is demonstrated on the Hak5 show... Hope this helps!

Unlocked G2 w/ Max WiFi Users 1 + Questions

TLDR: Unlocked LG G2 was on Sprint, now on VIVA in Kuwait, Max WiFi users when running hotspot is 1 - I want to increase it to more.
Long version:
Hello! I am a military service member deployed to Kuwait. I have a Sprint LG G2 which is rooted and running the latest UltraPop ROM. Before I left the US, my phone was activated on the Sprint network and when I would use my WiFi hotspot, I had the ability to connect up to 10 users or something. When I got to Kuwait, I had to have my phone SIM unlocked for International use to make it work with the SIM cards provided by the carrier here (it's called VIVA). My phone was not on the Sprint network when I needed to unlock so when I did the UICC unlock it did an OTA over WiFi and then I was able to use my phone on their carrier. This is all well and good.
The problem is, I want to connect my laptop, my tablet and a few other items to my hot spot - thus the appeal of the hot spot, right? LOL. Anyway, several advanced options like the radio channel, frequency, etc. have now disappeared and in addition, the most important one - the amount of users able to connect to the hotspot, went from allowing 10 to 1. I am not sure why, except maybe something to do with the OTA update when I did the UICC unlock.
I did some reading and found this article: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2718682
Quickly I tried it and restarted my phone. No change. Then I noticed there was another hack for phones that had been activated on the Sprint network, which as I explained above, believe applies to me. This article has a more complicated procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2675280
I am afraid to try this method and screw things up. I suppose I could boot in TWRP and do a NANDROID back up before I try it but I am wondering if anyone thinks it will hose the only working Internet I have right now in Kuwait.
Any help is appreciated. Also, if anyone knows how to get the WiFi hotspot to allow devices to connect while running a VPN at the same time please enlighten me!
Thanks!!!
Sincerely, Lost & Confused...
OK, so I am going to resurrect my own thread here. I spent some time on and off dealing with the 1 client max for the hot spot in my Sprint LG G2. Lots of frustration. Anyway, digging deeper based on a tip another friend of mine gave, I discovered something that I thought would have helped, but no cigar.
Anyway, a variable called max_num_sta in the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant/hostapd.conf allows the access point to have only one client. The hostapd application on Android performs almost identical to an average Linux distro, so I figured by modifying this variable I would be able to allow more than 1 client to connect to my hotspot. However, even when changing the file manually, as soon as the hot spot is enabled thru the stock interface, only 1 client is able to connect and looking at the file again shows the value of the variable has been reset.
Next step on the list, was to run the hostapd manually from an Android terminal (something like hostapd -e/data/misc/wifi/entropy.bin -BK /data/misc/wifi/hostapd.conf). The command works at the hot spot functions, but again somehow resets to 1 freaking client again!
I would really like to be able to use my G2 to connect more than one device at a time to my hot spot while I am stuck in Kuwait. It is my only source of Internet. Anyway. Is there a way to disable the stock Wi-Fi Hot Spot interface using Titanium Back-up? Remove the APK? Modify the system? Something? I'd really like to figure this out. Any info or suggestion appreciated...

G3 locked out help

Edit: when the device has no internet the email used to unlock the phone is useless. The phone should keep the email and pass locally. So don't forget you pin or let anyone enter the wrong thing. I had to factory reset it however it still retained root. Strange? I wasn't able to obtain any data so far. I may try to dig deeper with a recovery program but right now I no longer need use of the device (my son has a new toy, lol).
This is my phone. Before anyone says it's not trust me it is and I can prove it via old cell bills. And that Google still has it attached to the account.
I need back into it for a few very important photos relating to an accident a few months ago.
This model was on the us cellular network. It is not an active phone. (No data). Here is my problem, not being able to connect to data or wifi networks I am locked out because my son played with the 4 digit pin. The phone now asks for my email and password. Of which I know but the phone will not accept it. Thinking that I might have updated my password since I was on the G3 last I have tried all passwords that I know I have used and still nothing. This phone is also rooted. With stock jellybean.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to avoid data loss. As I need the few images off the phone. After I get them off I really don't care what happens to the device.
march 16 per google was the last active date. From then till now it's only been a paperweight because I thought google backed up my images which isn't the case.
Does google keep passwords in a viewable manner in case I forgot one I used?
Edit: google doesn't save passes for viewing unless in your browser saved password section, however I wonder how it knows of a duplicate pass when changing the current one.

Question Hacked pixel 6

Can anyone help me carrier unlock my Verizon phone? My phone has been hacked and I hope being able to flash it will help me to get rid of whatever they have done to it. Can anyone tell me why I get this message when I reset my phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated
there is no carrier unlock for VZW models. if you can boot into recovery, sideload the OTA version that was last on your device.
What did you do that resulted in the phone being hacked? With the sectors being wiped that are shown in the images, it looks like you have provided total device access to something whilst having an unlocked bootloader or something similar. If you let us know what happened, it might help us to figure out what options you may still have.
But definitely see if you can do what @uicnren mentioned first.
Im not sure who or how they wiped anything. It happened one day after connecting to my girlfriends wifi. I got ahold of Verizon and they sent me a new phone and as soon as I started it the same thing happened to it also
How do I find what OTA version was used on my phone?
Nothing hacked here... this is an error when wiping the Secure Element (the trusted secure module).
(https://android-review.linaro.org/p...cure_element/1.0/SecureElementHalCallback.cpp line #66)
Are you initiating the wipe from the recovery? If so, that's likely the reason. If there is an account attached to the device, a wipe must first be initiated from within Android (Settings)

what symptoms were you seeing that made you think you were hacked?
Those errors are normal in Recovery Mode. I see them all the time, sometimes they don't appear, usually they do.
Did you remove your google accounts from settings, do a factory reset from the reset menu and lastly in recovery mode where you posted the screenshots from.
Your Account might be hacked but the phone is unlikely hacked. You would get a message at boot telling you that the device has been modified. With a locked bootloader its extremely unlikely (unless NSO Group is targeting you).

Did you unlock the bootloader? Have custom firmware/kernel installed?
A "hacker" wins nothing by resetting/wiping your phone. They want data, and that only works if the phone can turn on and works. This looks like a wipe/factory reset gone wrong, which spells user error or software error and less likely a "hacker" attack. Most hacks you will never notice. A hacker that makes you notice that something went wrong, is either an amateur or did it on purpose. Ergo, he wants you to know that something went wrong, which usually only happens in order to extort you. If there is no extortion, then an obvious act by a hacker is highly unlikely.
We need some more information. What firmware had you installed? What happened exactly when. Did you install any new apps recently? What did you do prior to something going wrong? All the information that could help us troubleshoot your issue.
You said your phone wiped itself a day after connecting to your girlfriends wifi, and that a replacement device that you got sent by your carrier, did the same. Did you check your Google account? Do you have two factor authentication activated? It sounds like your phone got wiped over wifi, which would require access to your Google account. It's just odd that you get errors, which normally shouldn't happen if someone would use the erase a lost Android device function.
It's also possible that your backup from your GAccount is simply corrupted (many people had issues with random reboots). You should try and set up your (replacement) phone anew without any backup, maybe that can fix your issue.
Beyond that Google account thing-y, anything else is highly unlikely. Even specialized companies have serious issues getting into a modern smartphone, lest alone an Android 12 phone with a Google Server grade Titan m2 chip. The newer the firmware, the less likely the chance that someone from the outside could get in, especially with a phone like a Pixel that isn't very common. Most security firms/govermental agencies can only abuse older, known security loopholes. It's more likely that very popular phones like a Samsung or IPhone are targets from "the bad guys", since there will be bigger payoff for breaking the security of those phones, since there is a greater pool of users to target. Most hacks I've witnessed weren't random, they were targeted. Ask yourself: Am I worth the trouble of getting hacked? Do you have anything of interest on your phone that would warrant an excessive use of resources? Managing to hack a Pixel is not only unlikely in terms of the security you need to breach, but also in terms of the potential payoff in relation to the necessary knowhow and resources. It's just "not worth it".
What you should do immediately, just in case, is secure your Google account. Change your password. Maybe even change your two-factor authentication, if you have one (sms is not secure, use a token generating software/device). Change the wifi password from your girlfriend and check the list of connected devices. make a list of these connected devices + history (find that in the rooter software) and check them against the devices you know of. Also check the list of connected devices to your GAccount. Use the option to log out ALL devices from your Google account, so only your device is connected.
Do any other people have access to your phone? Do any other people know your passwords? Does your girlfriend has access? Do any other people have biometric security saved on your phone? Do you trust your girlfriend completely?
Make sure you use a special, new password for your GAccount, never reuse old ones that you have used somewhere else. Also check your emails on https://haveibeenpwned.com/
Beyond that, if you are not doing already, use a password manager.

This, among many other things, is one of the reasons I use GrapheneOS and NO gooble services (despite all the attention they give to sandboxed gooble services).

your google address was found on that site for another service and you used the same password for both services, correct?
despite what some believe, your google account will not get hacked unless your password is insecure (ie. leaked or insufficient with 2FA). anything less and your asking for trouble (also using GrapheneOS).
