Atrix rom port to Evo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wouldn't it be awesome to be able to have the same features of the Atrix on the Evo? Plug your HDMI cord into any monitor and connect a keyboard to your Evo and pretty much have a full computer in a very small package.
Would it be possible to port the rom or at least that feature? What would need to be done?
Just wanted to see if it could be possible.
Sent from my CM7 Evo

Correct me if I am wrong but cm 7 can already have keyboard and mouse. So all you need is an hdmi program, there are two such products one is currently on the market and the other is in a beta, won't name either as it brings drama, however I would recommend you use a hdmi kernel with what ever app u go with as I think it runs much smoother
I run sense and haven't used any of the hdmi offerings on a cm rom yet as my cm test device (coworker) is on vacation

Switching from captivate to desire.

Ok so I'm switching carriers and have to select a new phone. I'm absolutely in love with my captivate on 2.2 and am hopeful that the desire will be an acceptable substitute since the new carriers selection just sucks for android (hero, milestone, desire) But before I bite the bullet theres a couple questions I was hoping to get answered.
Wifi tether: I used the wifi tether app that you can sideload and hated it. Have since switched to a new rom that includes the native mobileap app and it works flawlessly. Does the desire have a similar native app that can be loaded with a custom rom?
Apps. I am an iphone convert and haven't had anything but the captivate. Are all my apps tied to my device or google info? Ie: will I have to rebuy apps when I get a new phone

first of all the desire ****s on the captivate as far as tethering goes, the desire comes with an app called wifi hotspot, this lets you turn your desire into a portable hotspot, you can then connect to it using a laptop/pc, and share the devices internet connection, ive even used my desire to connect to xbox live lol as long as you use the same gmail ID, you can download all the apps you bought on your last phone and use them on your new one
I promise, not disagreeing or being a fanboy. But in what way is the desire better? On paper, the captivate has the larger, better quality screen, better gpu, and just generally faster specs. Is it Sense? Because I do love sense (used an aria for a few days on loan from AT&T) but I hear a lot of people gripe about the speed hit you take (similar to touchwiz does on captivate).
Also, it will not be on vzw it will be on a local carrier that has em. Will custom rooms still work or will it require modification on my part?
The custom rom part is important.because the rom that comes on it is 2.1
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
The captivate also has a better screen without any multitouch bugs too. But I'd prefer the Desire because of sense. If the desire you get is unbranded FroYo is already out for it, but if it's not you can root it and put custom roms on it. Or you can debrand it if you want official froyo.
As long as you dont need so much fps in games, the Desire owns the captivate. Roms are available everywhere and you can get alot of them in the dev section! you won't regret
Thanks guys! A little less worried now about it. I despise going to a local carrier vs. national but can't justify the cost of staying on att

HDMI output, help?

Hey guys, I am interested in getting HDMI out to work, I bought a generic mhl USB to HDMI cable, I am on TLS 10/15 4.1.2 rom (cm10) and I have a 55" led 3d lg smart TV.. I connect everything accordingly, main to phone - power to mini USB input on mhl, and out to HDMI on TV, change to the proper input on television and I get nothing, but occasionally my phone goes into dock(clock) mode....? No visual output on TV ever tho... oh and my phone charges as well.... does anyone out there use HDMI out? Is there something that I am missing, setting , apps, option in ROM?.... thanks in advance.

Most likely its the adapter. I bought the Samsung branded adapter and it was a POS. A lot of he adapters are finicky. Id suggest ordering a different adapter and if that doesn't work you can rule it out, return it, and look elsewhere for problems.
I've had great success with this one. It's got an extra long cord which is nice also.

I turned it on using ROM Toolbox build.prop editor: add an entry with property name "ro.hdmi.enable" and set the property value to "true", reboot, and it works. I copied this setting from a flashable zip from another forum.
But both on CM10 nightly 10/17/2012, and AOKP nightly 10/15/2012, I found that after disconnecting the cable my phone often has a reboot (not exactly a Random one in this case), as if it had been destabilized, had a memory leak, or some such. So my guess is that the developers have left this setting out to avoid the issue until other issues get fixed. The video and audio quality were fine, however, so the basics are there.
Jack
Edit 10/25/2012: both current AOKP build 5 and CM10 nightlies still reboot after using HDMI in this fashion, in my experience within the first minute after detaching the micro-USB/hdmi connection (I am using the Samsung on, but the same occurred with the Menotek one) the Hercules will simply reboot. So this is an instability which occurs with both ROMs, and it also persists with the kernel from the King Kangers AT&T Thread, which otherwise works well: [Kernel]3.0.43[JellyBean]AOSP/ETC | King Kangers One | .11 |SKYROCKET Edition|
Besides making use of HDMI less useful (though I haven't seen it reboot while actually watching video that way, using Youtube or local video), it seems to betray an underlying bug in the kernel or in both ROMs.

Ahh. Gotcha.
Backup and flash a diff ROM to see.
Keep an eye on the adapter though. I had a Samsung official MHL adapter and it died on me for no reason.

[Q] MHL adapter incompatibility

I'm having some issues getting my MHL adapter to behave properly. I have my E4GT running ICS MIUI, and I also have my work phone which is a sensation 4G running stock ICS, unrooted.
I ordered 2 different types of MHL adapter, a menotek and an official Samsung, and have been trying different combinations to get it to work on my 1080p TV.
1. MHL will work with both my E4GT and my work phone is they are running Froyo, but with no gamepad compatibility this is a dealbreaker.
2. No ICS roms I have tried will mirror over MHL. Mijz goodness just shows a black screen on the TV, whereas MIUI won't even show that (but it will change to landscape and lock rotation on the phone).
3. My work phone works 100% mirroring. This isn't ideal since my wish of MHL mirroring and gamepad compatibility is for my personal phone with all of my games on it.
4. Any combination of connecting the MHL power, HDMI cable, or connecting to the phone (Since I read the order *might* have an effect) is fruitless when running ICS builds of Mijz goodness, Viper, Recalked, or MIUI, on both adapters.
5. Searching the forums is fruitless, since most threads point back to threads with people either saying it should work out of the box, or no, it will never work since the source code for mirroring isn't released yet.
6. Both adapters are verified working with my work phone.
So the question is, what am I doing wrong? I noticed an HDMI mirroring notification comes up on my Sensation when mirroring, but nothing comes up on my personal phone. Is it missing a key program?
sounds wierd.. to answer some of your questions.. mhl support doesnt work with any aosp ics or jb rom that im aware of.. only tw based roms.. i havent had any issues with any tw based ics rom. i usually have hdmi to the adapter, then plug power to the adapter, then plug into the phone.

Well, I went back to the stock rom and sure enough MHL works. I haven't had luck with any other rom so far, even TW based roms.
It could be my TV, adapter, or any combination of things. I know stock works and I'm happy.

stock 4.0.4. I needed it to be ICS for gamepad compatibility. I flashed a couple of kernels and MHL mirroring is not kernel dependant, unlike when HDMI mirroring was implemented on EVO 4g.

Thanks for your response. I'm also on stock 4.0.4 (FI27), but unable to get MHL working. I posted about it here.. Which adapter are you using? I don't really need it, but it's not the first time I've made a foolish purchase. Maybe I'll get another one.

I just tested it on my menotek adapter. It doesn't work, but it does with the OEM samsung adapter. They're $9 now.
The more recent versions of touchwiz broke compatibility with the Menotek adapters.
You might be able to get them to work in DVI mode, but they fail HDMI initialization.

That's a great price. Any chance you have a link? My search finds them for $12+.
I'm also finding this one at Monoprice, which seems like a decent price ($10.20).
Menotek works with FK23.

[Q] MHL-HDMI Output

Hi guys
I want to use my t989 as SNES/PSX console with HDMI output+PS3 controller, or just use my TV for see my series, videos and photos without DLNA of connect it via USB cable. It's a feature I want
A friend of mine borrow me a MHL-HDMI cable (I ordered mine already) and I tried with stock and other ROM's, I have output once with CM10.1 but can't have it anymore and according to docs and IRC chat that functionality is undocumented and will never work. Only touchwiz based ROM's have TV-OUT, do you know which ones support that? Is there any chance to get this for CM or others?
Thanks in advance
---EDIT 2013-03-02
List of ROM's supporting MHL-HDMI
- Slimbean 4.1
- Liquid smooth rc9 (according to thread pointed out by nreaction)

I thought, I would never say this but at least try and use the search function, all i typed was "mhl" search in general section. Here is the thread your looking for though. I can confirm it works for cm10, but haven't tested with cm10.1.

In my experience with the MHL adapter it will drain your batter to basically nothing while using it even though it is plugged into a power source. When you get done playing you're going to have to charge your phone back up .

There is an app that will turn your phone screen off but keep your MHL connection live and then your battery problems are solved. I just can't for the life of me remember the name of it. I have used it and it works great though.
Well I just ordered one so if you think of the name of the app please let me know. Thanks

MHL won't work on stock rom cause this phone use slimport by default.
I'm running CM10.1 (one of the latest nightlies) and the MHL is fully functional via HDMI cable.
Remember that you have to connect power supply to the converter in order to make it work.
Tried on latest cm10.1 stable and it works great.

RootBox supports MHL. And I've successfully used an MHL-to-HDMI converter from monoprice.com to show/play local pics, local videos, local music, and YouTube on our HDTV.
Haven't tried MHL on any other ROMs.

Confirm to work on stock JB 10D rom. I bought my MHL adapter almost 2 years ago, from dealxtreme.com,for my old galaxy s2. I sold the phone, but i kept the adapter for my next phones. It seems to be working ok. It's a cheap adapter, paid 10bucs for it.They even gave me an USB OTG adapter with it .
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try connect this again tonight. I've updated to Liquid smooth rom (this should also function as with the raw CM 10.1). I'll post my result by then. thanks.
I tried to plug it again but no progress. It still doesn't recognize the connection. I'm now using RootBox rom.

As i used it on cm10.1there were no notifications about connected in notification bar or in phone itself.
But its surely working, just plug the micro USB to your phone, the HDMI to your TV and charger to socket and change the channel in tv to hdmi1 or hdmi2..... depends on where you have pluged in your HDMI. And you should See your phone in TV.
And again, you will get no notifications that it is connected to phone or tv, on mine was the same, but works 100%. Just plug everything together and choose right channel.

Which build of RootBox? MHL was only added in the middle of June, I believe. Defintely works on the June 21 build, haven't checked the June 24 build that I'm currently running, but it should work.
Which MHL adapter are you using? Does it has a full-sized USB plug as well as the micro-USB and HDMI? Is the USB plugged into anything?
I found the one I have won't work unless the full-sized USB plug is connected to the TV as well as the HDMI plug (needs it for power).
RootBox Rom June26 build. I was using a Samsung brand MHL to HDMI adapter. It was working with the stock rom. looks like this one :
http://mag.divineo.cn/magento/mc-mhla.html
The resolution of mhl on cm10.1 is 1080p and cannot be changed.
If your TV is not FullHD, you may get no signal.

Could you guys direct me to an adapter that will work with LG OG? I'm looking to buy one, but am a little confused. Some say Samsung adapters will work, but I've read online that there are different versions (difference in PIN's?). Which version should I buy 5 pin or 11 pin. Does th MHL version matters, 1.0 or 2.0 ?
11 pin is for Samsung, will not work.
Mine actually is from Energizer brand (brings a 11 pin adapter too) , I had another one before.
I think that every MHL 5 pin will work.

Thanks!
