Hey folks,
I 've been using an unlocked at&t samsung focus in Brazil for quite some time and as any user from unsupported country i've been limited to free apps in marketplace. I dont know if marketplace changed policy or not but today i bought a gold subscription for my xbox live account (which is the same as the one i use in wp7 - US Live Account) and magically everything is working now. I bought monopoly ($4,99) and sound recorder ($0,99) from wp7 marketplace without a problem.
When you buy a gold subscription in xbox they just validate your credit card information without verifying the address so i used my credit card and an US address. Now wp7 seems to be using the same credit card info from xbox live for purchases.
Can anyone confirm this works or mktplace really changed policy and has nothing to do with xbox live?!
This sounds really interesting, please someone to test and report if this works. Regards
Are your Live account registered as an U.S. account too? Otherwise I don't think that you shouldn't have been able to even download free Apps. To register an account in another country is the "official" workaround, the problem is to get a creditcard validated since they seem to check which country it's registered in nowadays.
Nop.
Tried to register my credit card using the same profile that I've used with my PSN account (wich works perfectly). But here, when I try to register my credit card, it gives me error.
It's annoying; I need to buy some apps. That is annoying and non sense.
nop. thats the point i didn't registered any credit card on my live account. I can't... like any other person living in unsupported country. What i did was making my xbox account gold (which happens to be the same US live ID i use for wp7) and voilà! xbox website doesn't check your location, you can use your normal credit card and input any US address to become gold.
After this step they don't ask for a credit card in my live account anymore, it uses the one i have in my xbox account. Since then I'm able to buy apps.
in resume:
1. Get your US live account and register/convert it on xbox live at www.xbox.com. (The liveid must be the same primary account you use on wp7)
2. Go gold using the US page ($9.99/mo if i recall). (Will ask you for a credit card)
3. Try to buy something in wp7 marketplace.
That's what i did and surprisingly worked for me.
also make sure you are in /en-us at xbox.com. Check the address bar. Force en-US if it redirects to your country.
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/joinlive?xr=shellnav
Is here anyone who tested this and can say its woking?
Please somebody else has tried this? I need to know.
Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express
nope, not working
tried everything explained twice, showed up "give a correct credir card numbers"

My question is, will i be able to buy/download apps for a WP7 phone (lets say from the US[samsung focus]) in countries that don't have windows phone 7 yet?(lets say Israel)
Hard reset my phone and booted it up in airplane mode, market works just fine that way with wifi so I don't see why not.

if you can buy a windows phone there at present, then yes you shouldn't have a problem. if it isn't available there at the moment, you may have to do some dodgy things and make it think you're from US.
Works fine in Norway, but I'm not sure if I can get all programs available in the US or just a subset...Hard to tell, really
Unless the marketplace is available in that country no.
For instance, they sell WP7 phones in Sweden but they haven't launched the marketplace here yet. Which is idiotic.
You can get around it though by making a new windows live id that has the country set to a country with the marketplace available.
Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830701 for more information.
wow thats cool i just change my PC location to USA and i got my Zune Marketplace i never had before thats cool, i see the windows phone marketplace now...
is there a way i can make my pc think i have a windows phone phone conected so i can try to download free apps?
and for payed apps i have an AMEX card so i think im set.
You can download free apps if your Windows Live is set to a country with marketplace support. However, to buy apps you need to set your credit card details in Zune with an address in that country. I have a Netherlands Mastercard but put in my parents address in UK and its working great.
Hmm so I assume it will not NORMALLY work in Poland without setting another account which is set as UK?
I mean I use Hotmail for 12 years and probably it's set as polish, so...
Without this workarounds no chance?
On offical MS polish page they invite to buy 3 WP7 devices in polish stores....
So looks like official....
Any clue?

Which mastercard are you using. I have got one from ABN AMRO but it is not working. Only thing different is that I'm trying it with the US marketplace. I read somewhere it only worked a few days after launch day. I tried it btw on the zune desktop. Keep getting a error message saying that my creditcard details are wrong.
There is a service called global shop for AMEX card owners that gives u an address in the USA in Miami, so I can register to any us retail and give them the global shop Miami address that’s just cool
And as for changing the Live, takes only a sec to do and I have my account for like 5 years.
but i still wana be sure, so if any of you know of any virtual WP7, or if any one tried in a country that don't sell phones yet.
Setting up your WP7 device with a US live-id works fine, but you won't be able to buy apps without a US credit card also. Downloading free apps works fine, though, but when WP7 is launched with all services and the marketplace in your own country you will have to reset your device and set it up again with a local live-id to use these. Any apps downloaded from the US marketplace will then be lost.

So all that makes buying a WP7 device NOW nonsense.
Whether you don't have access to all the features or you're screwed later....
Discouraging.
at present, perhaps, but i think over time as they support more and more languages they'll open it up more.

ING Mastercard (Netherlands), In Zune add credit card UK address with Netherlands card number, Windows Live UK account.
I did this two days ago and already bought some apps. I also read somewhere this is the official method endorsed by Microsoft Netherlands so maybe give them a call if its not working?
So Zune pass finally have came to Australia and i am not to sure how to get it to work on my phone. I am able to transfer music from Zune to my WP7 and it plays fine but when i open Music + Video App on my WP7 there is no zune option to search.
On there site it says if you go to new and click zune it works but it simply takes me to a webpage. Anyhelp would be great.
Same with me. I have no trace of it on my phone yet
Guys, it took us Canada guys a week for it to show up. Hold up there and it'll show eventually.
Same deal here, no Zune marketplace on Omnia7 (Optus) even though I have a Zune Pass.
You need to try this method by Chris Walsh.
If it works dont forget to thank me

From the looks of it it seems to be for the Zune desktop client but not for phones?
Ah yes. Forgot to mention. On Phone it will be almost impossible unless somebody is really good with Registry stuff
Still no Zune Pass on my phone. I assume it will come eventually i wonder if we will now have access to the music search function in bing ? P.S who is trying the free 14 day trial as well ?
Just saw this from @ZuneSupport on Twitter:
The marketplace may not show up right away on your WP7. Let us know if it doesn't show up by this time next week. ^SM
You can get most of the new Zune features by doing a hard reset. Unfortunately though, it doesn't look like Bing Audio works just yet (it does when you access Bing for the first time, but exiting and entering the app again the music icon will disappear).
If you're willing to reinstall your apps, resync your music and start your games again then go for gold.
I confirm this works. I just reset my WP7 (HTC Mozart). It took a couple of minutes but the music marketplace is now available on my device. I am using Telstra Prepaid.
I have had a Zune pass for years in Australia using the US address trick and setting the computer to location US. I have a hotmail email address that is registered to the US and now that Zune pass has finally come to Australia I would like to use it here....... the question is can I transfer my details to australia as I have purchased heaps of apps under the US windows lie account? If I use my Australian windows live account I will have to buy all the apps again. Has anyone been able to transfer purchases to another live account.
What if you moved from the US to Australia, would you have to loose all the purchased music and apps?
Why not keep your old one? I mean the $15 music pass you get to keep 10 songs don't you?
I had already changed my plan to the new one as I never used my free songs. I have paid up for a year on the US zune pass so its not an option to restart again in Australia.
I found a little info on we should see market place on our phones. Should be 24 - 48 hours from the 16 Nov

I did a hard reset and it all works bing music and all
I talked to Microsoft and they said there was no way to change regions. So I cancelled my Zune subscription and they credited the remaining two months and said I will not be charged for the year subscription that was order as the zune pass has been cancelled.
I have created a new Zune pass for Australia and I have to reset my WP7 phones and enter the new Australian windows live on startup and I loose all the bought apps that I bought on the US Live ID. Microsoft said that they would ask the senior team to look into giving me a credit on all the apps I bought on the US Live ID, I will let you know if that happens.

Has anyone managed to top up Google Wallet in the UK or anywhere outside of the USA? I've used my free $10 and it worked like a charm in McDonalds and it would be great if we could figure out a way to get it topped up without having to have a friend in the USA etc...
There's a method listed here:

Thanks for the reply however I cannot see any info in that forum with regards to topping up outside of the USA. Could you point me in the direction of which page it is?
Thanks again.
From that link...
"Topping Up
So you've installed the APK and spent your initial $10 at Greggs or maybe Mcdonalds. Healthy. Now you need to top up... there's a problem!
Google Wallet only allows you to load the prepaid card using a US card, which most of us accessing Wallet this way don't have! The card that you use needs to support AVS (address verification) with a US address, something that also excludes a number of US cards. I'm hoping that we as a community can collaborate to work out the best way to do this, but i've tried a few methods and i've chronicled them below. I'll update this post as more methods / information surfaces. I'm hoping we can find a low cost disposable Visa solution or similar that makes the process easy. Getting a US address is easy enough to associate with a card, just sign up (free) for US Unlocked.
BFPS- Virtual credit card in various denominations, configurable AVS address, use coupon 'modaco' for 5% discount - WORKING
EntroPay - Virtual credit card, turns out to be Malta registered and doesn't support AVS - FAILED
US Unlocked card - Virtual credit card, currently untested - UNKNOWN"
I found that extremely expensive. A virtual-card of US$50 for US$69 ? they are charging like 20% for the service alone.
This is so far what I've done.
-Went to Borderlinx to get an U.S. based address (borderlinx.com)
-I received an email with such address
-Went to EntroPay (entropay.com) to get a Virtual debit card using my UK details.
-Then after the card was set up and topped, I went to Google Wallet directly (wallet.google.com) and added the card using the Borderlinx address details.
-I tested the card in play.google.com, buying a game (where's my perry) and even though my account is UK based, I decided to make the EntroPay card my default and it charged me in US$ ($0.99 instead of £0.69). Checked in Wallet and the transaction was successful.
Next thing to do:
-Try to pay using Google Wallet in my Galaxy S3 in any Paypass vendor (Greggs, McDonalds, you name it). Since the card was accepted in Google Play, I guess it will be OK when I try to pay using the card in Greggs.
Keep in mind I'm using the latest version, the one that allows to use any card and pulls the cards you have used in Google Play.
Fingers crossed!
Seeing as they now accept Visa Debit and Mastercard it should be easier now
This is really a JFYI thread as couldn't see one, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810118 has the latest wallet api, and guide. All seems to be working here for me, so might be worth a go for those wanting to try.
Even got a UK visa debit card registered with the system, althought to be fair, not tried to use it yet (McD for breaky)
http://p.twimg.com/AzVWyttCUAAfgjX.png
Quick notes, remember to have NFC enabled, and to change the build.prop and then reboot before running the app for the first time.ni just used es file in root mode for everything, bu use whatever apps you feel comfy with I suppose.
even though it recognizes our cards, being in the UK doesnt allow us to complete the setup process using these cards... hopefully Google address this in the near future.

Works fine for me... UK Card registered and enabled just fine!
However it's worth noting that McDonalds wouldn't accept it, payment declined, perhaps because Google wasn't allowed to debit the card. oh well...
Also using the same details to add funds to the Google Card does not work either.

Had a thought (well someone else did), you can go and change the address to a UK one by going into wallet.google.com and changing it there.
Done it, will try later. Unless I'm beaten to it...
Ok this works...didn't try adding a card though. It detected the card I had associated with my Google Account but I need a US address to activate it. So...bummer.
At least I can use the Google Prepaid Card.
do i need to create an account on the aftv and choose the USA region to be able to watch programs from the USA , because it asks for my credit card detals if i select USA , is it safe to put card details in ? or do i just de-register and re- register and choose united kingdom ? thanks

I doubt you can get us content with the us credit card and amazon location change. With these tricks, you can download the apps but they won't work for example sling. To make sling or netflix work, you will have to use the service like unotelly dns etc which costs about $4 a month.
Hi thanks , im using unblockr dns service and have changed my dns settings , i downloaded Hulu plus from amazon for free , so i think it should work , if i choose a film to watch , it plays an ad for about 1 minute , then just get a black screen , do i nee to change anything in amazon account or aftv ? thanks

To get Hulu in the UK, you need a DNS service that can "trick" apps into thinking you are in US, which you have already, and you need to set up your fire tv with an Amazon.com US account. Once you download the app, you can set it back to Amazon.co.uk or any other region you like.
But the key sticking point is that you need a US registered credit card to open a Hulu subscription. Even if you select US when registering and put in a UK credit card, it won't work.
There are services that let you register for a virtual US credit card, but they do require a leap of faith in terms of how much you trust them. I have been using http://www.usunlocked.com/ for a few years now (not to be confused with Unblock-US, the DNS service provider). As I say though, I have had no issues, but I can't guarantee anyone else won't. You have to send quite sensitive info to prove your ID before they can open an account on your behalf (US law).
And their commission can be expensive so you need to factor that in. I used to use it mainly for Netflix and Hulu subs (before Netflix came to UK) and to rent movies from VUDU (app not available on Fire tv sadly). I hardly use it these days to be honest but if you want Hulu, you will need a US credit card.
Or if you know a trusted family member/friend in the US and work out something with them.
iii have a username and password for Hulu plus so should it work with unblockr dns service , it loads ok and plays an ad if i select a film but then get black screen , i set up an amazon.com account and selected USA but i got a warning triangle on my amazon.co.uk account saying that i had a device listed on the .com site , so i have cancelled the account .
Do i need to not open a .co.uk account and open a .com account and register the aftv , then download the app (netflix or hulu) from the .com site to the aftv ? then open a .co.uk account if i wish ? thanks
try some free VPN service maybe DNS is not enough? securitykiss.com offers free 500 MB a day has usa server so you can test it.
Also you gotta have root or router that can change settings and use VPN.

Apologies didn't realise you already have an active plus account.
I have no experience with Unblockr, but try it on a PC or Mac (change you dns there) and go to hulu.com. If you can play videos (not just the free ones) then there is something wrong with hulu app on fire tv and Unblockr. If you can't play videos, then there is something wrong with your account and/or with Unblockr.
I'm fairly certain that it shouldn't matter what Amazon account you have on your fire tv (US or UK), at least not for hulu. I have a US account and a UK account and any US only apps I downloaded from my US account work when I switch back to my UK account.
Also try patt2k suggestion of a free US VPN just to test if it's Unblockr's fault or not. Also make sure you change your dns to something like 8.8.8.8 (google's dns) before testing as sometimes VPNs and DNS services conflict with each other.

Actually apologies I should have been clearer. I do have 2 accounts, US and UK, with different emails, BUT to get a US apps on my UK account I just change my region on Amazon.co.uk to USA. Then I have access to US apps, download what I need, sync it, then switch it back to UK region. This is all done under the same account, with the same emails. When switching to US region, you need a US address, but you can one from google. Doesn't have to be a legit one and it's only temporary.
There is a guide here: http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-geographically-restricted-apps-from-amazon/
I was having a hard time paying for Hulu tho and got Unblockr. If It worked but I forgot to pay and since its for US I had to search for a long time to find a place that has Hulu gift cards that ship outside of the US and I found this site that ships outside of US with Hulu cards from giftcards2u .com . Im glad I searched this up and thanks for the advice here!
