map the camera button to a hardware key - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Just like to be able to use a hardware key instead of a touchscreen button for the dhd, I'm on 2.2 on coredroid which I love, I like the normal HTC camera app but i loathe the lack of a hardware key dedicated to the camera (not good HTC)
So does anyone have any idea how I / we can map either up or down on the volume to the take a picture button?
Thanks and I hope someone can help, a zip or apk would be fantastic.
Cheers.

+1 for hardware button camera shots

so far i know, you can do this with cyanogen firmware.

You should go for Cm7 but its a non sense rom

Volume Control Issue

Ever since using custom ROMs i've been having issues with the volume buttons, they don't seem to continue increase/decrease the volume while I hold them down like they used to on the official ROM's from the HTC website.
I have to release and repress the button for it to further increase/decrease. I'm worried that that buttons will get damaged in this type of operation. The VolDown is already sounding spongy and stressed. I have tried various cabs(SetVolume 0.8, VolumeKeys-0.4.1 and Volume_Control 2.2) to no avail.
I really love these customs from all the kitchens, its a shame that the issue is causing me problems as I use my TP2 as a full time MP3 player.
I'm on the Energy ROM 20 JAN 21889 right now.
Try Valkyrie's volume fix. It seems to work well for me. However, the taskbar icon will look different (a glossy, black box).
That didnt work for me. Looking for the same as the OP

Didn't work, hmm reinstalled the WM 6.5 ROM from the HTC website and the volume controls work normally but reinstalled an Energy ROM and its back to single increments. Very odd.

Sorry guys; I just tried these myself on the ROM I have in my sig (I just loaded the ROM yesterday), and I also have the same "problem" (though it doesn't bother me that much). I was able to hold the volume buttons (with the increments moving during a hold of either button) using an old Dec.4 EnergyROM I had.
Again, sorry I couldn't solve this.
That "valkyrie htcvol.cab" posted worked for me in a jan energy rom but i had to install it, then remove it. Now on the energy feb 1st rom, the volume is normal. Now i am on the feb 4th and volume is back to multi touch. Tried to use this valkyrie htcvol.cab on it and it didnt work either way. Back to being stuck on the multi touch volume

I had this issue as well and figured out that it was caused by Rhodium Keyboard Controler (I think that's the name), you know, the app that allows you to remap the hardware buttons.
Dunno if that's your case as well, but do try to figure out if it's caused by an app causing a conflict of some sort.

question about when froyo is released

i have just fully rooted my htc evo 4g and i installed evolution 8 and i love this ROM but i was wondering when froyo is officially available for the evo it will have htc sense on it and i personally hate htc sense will it be possible to remove sense completely off the Evo using a custom ROM ? i love the stock android experience i think it is the best.
It will definitely be possible to use a custom rom to have sense free froyo goodness. I agree that stock android is proving a good experience. The only thing I cant figure out is how to make the keyboard disappear when its covering something. The sense keyboard has a simple button that hides the keyboard. I'm sure I'll figure it out.
A nice unsung feature of froyo is that more of the OS is landscape friendly. The apps list and some of the settings pages are not, but the recent tasks window is for example. I wish that everything would rotate even if it was crudely done, but I would settle for everything but the home screen rotating.
A legit froyo is the missing link, I suspect, in making ROMs like evolution perfect because they should bring us a proper kernel. Slap that ***** on this ROM and voila.. everything JUST WORKS

Hold down the menu button
i use swype on my evo, and that "keyboard down" button disappointed after installing it, i've found hitting the back button also works in hiding the keyboard
Supposedly in July, but honestly, what good is a speedup if there is a 30fps cap :? I mean sure it will be good for running tasks, but I want to see the fluidity, not 30fps bull ****.
I want to get scissors cut off the HDMI connection, and go yell at HTC and say:
"I have no hdmi anymore, 30fps cap gone now plz thx"

You can also just hit the done button below the return key. It will also do it for many of the areas you have to enter text.
The only thing I would like to see more than anything at his moment is a smarter way to edit your text or select it with better precision. I give that one to Apple and the Iphone.
We need something similiar.

[Q] Modded Hardware Keyboard layout

I'm using Virtous Sense ROM and i'm very pleased with it.
I find the user buttons on the hardware keyboard pretty useless.
Is there anybody here who modded these keys to be something else?
I'm mainly looking for someone who made button 1 a 'close' button. button 2 doesn't really matter to me.
Anyone out there who wants to share this?
(i tried to read into it myself but found i little bit out of my legeau)
Thanks in advance!

Quick question about ICS hardware and software buttons

I'm just curious from those of you who flashed, how is ICS implemented? There was some criticism of ICS replacing the 'menu' button and removing hardware buttons. Do the leaked rom builds use 'software' buttons also or are those functions coded to our hardware buttons (this is my assumption). Does the hardware menu button do anything (i.e. is it linked to 'menus' in apps still?)...how do you feel with the changes in 'search' button functionality in ICS?
I'm hoping to install the ROM myself soon and take a look but don't have the time now and was hoping someone could provide quick thoughts on these issues (I haven't found any reviews or discussions related to this...)
Thanks for any thoughts

Lol why don't you flash and find out =0 jk lol no the factory buttons are still in use I believe only new ICS phones from niw on will have on screen buttons everything as far as hardware buttons work normally only thing different is screenshot is home and volume down
Yeah, i tried to pre-empt that suggestion obviously thanks for feedback, i guess im just gonna have to try it and find out what software isnt working and how search and menu are integrated into the OS and apps. Im not really thrilled with what they did with the buttons going forward actually...we'll see. thanks

Request: Camera to take photos by pressing down the Power button

Can somebody make our camera to take a Snap when we press the power button, I'm looking for something like that for a long time but Can't find anything, and by any chance I want to use the original Camera just this mode nothing else.
Please if someone of the devs is capable of doing this I(and many others I guess) would appreciate it very much.
Just like a heads up the Camera version on i9100 on ICS is capable of doing this, but for some reason our devices don't have this option!
Thanks in advance!
Actually, I am using MS_Guru's CM9 and there is an option in settings called "Power Shutter" , which allows you to take a pic with the power button ...
AOKP has this option
Stock CM9 has the option also
