Is there any ROM out there that unlocks the FM radio for the epic. I read that it is either hardware or software locked by the stock build. Any app for it as well?

Try Tune-In Radio App. It's free and has most stations AM and FM. It doesn't have the stations that the crappy Iheart Radio has the rights to but it has most of them and works great!

I believe he's looking for the fm tuner, not software to stream radio off the internet.
As far as OP:
Not yet, someone had been working on trying to get it working on 2.1 kernels but so far no luck. Hopefully somone will take up that torch with 2.2+ eventually.

Yes, I was speaking about the FM tuner. Sorry for not clarifying. I used this feature often when I had my EVO and read that the EVO and EPIC share the same radio (chip). This would be a great if a dev could get this working.
i like to stream since i dont get the silly am or fm static or noise if you will. I had an evo and used the fm radio from time to time but it really needs the am band as well for us talk radio folks. I love talk radio on my Epic 4g and usually use wunder Radio or Tune in Radio or CBS Radio or i just use a pod cast player like mediafly or .podcast
bumping this instead of creating a new thread.
anyone know what the deal is? hardware disabled or not? sparked my curiousity since there are options in the voodoo sound control app...
I had an app from the european Galaxy S that would launch the widget, but it would report the FM Radio as off, and would not scan for stations until the radio was turned on
At one point I thought I saw a 2.1 settings APK that had the turn on fm radio option, but have never been able to find it again.
Whats the point of disabling something that they can sell as a feature???? i m not doubting..just curious as to why is samsung doing that...
i dont think their is an built in fm radio like their is on the htc evo. I know congress want to make it a law to include a fm radio but why bother when you can stream the stations. I also say forget fm and also include an AM radio band as i love talk radio.....

I'm a bit confused as to whether there is an fm radio on this device (still product researching). From what I understand the specs at various location indicate it has a fm radio; the user manual talks about the sprint fm radio (which is radio over inet) and there is no default radio application installed.

Does anyone know if there is actually an fm radio and if you installed an fm app does it work ?
No and the gs2 radio app wont turn on fm so they might have left fm out

Rayglobe ROM for LS980 which is on ZV8 runs FM Radio flawlessly. This makes it certain that Sprint LS980 is capable of FM Radio.
However, even after porting the application and relevant lib files, I've not been able to make FM Radio work on Sprint LS980 ZVC stock ROM.
I even tried Spirit 2 but in vain.
Has anyone been able to make this work?
The FM Radio works fine for me on stock ZVC unrooted. I use the NextRadio app.
Thanks for the heads up with NextRadio.
It works and works well. But the problem is NextRadio's interface does not come that well, worst it does not allows even frequencies by only odd. Example: You cannot tune into 102.8 but you can to 102.7 and 102.9
I have made Spirit 2 work, but even its not that stable.
I'll try making the Stock FMRadio app work on Sprint LS980.
Edit - my apology. I misunderstood what you wrote. I see what you are saying now.
Why you can't tune even bands

Radio stations in the Americas don't broadcast on even bands.
See the Wikipedia FM article on Broadcasting, specifically the section on Broadcast Bands, for more details.
I can't post a link, because spammers ruin everything for the rest of us, but it's a pretty easy article to find.
Hi, first of all i'm sorry for my english.
Someone knows a good Radio FM app?
i've tried spirit (all people say that is the best), and seems to find the radio stations but no sound, and spirit2 keeps all time starting but don't work. Of course i've not tried to pay the program in store because i don't wan't to pay 5€ for a non working app...
I'm using a Xperia S lt26i with CM10.1.
Thanks!!
From what i've read AT&t disables the FM Radio... Would anyone have an idea about getting FM Radio to work?
I flashed Spartaxx's ROM last night and i seen the FM Radio app installed, after i plugg in my headphones i come to find out that FM Radio doesn't work. The app launches, but i cant turn on the radio and scan.

I believe this has been done by AT & T at Hardware level, so no Software will enable FM Radio. This is to make you use your Data allowance on Internet Radio, etc.

Except for Sprint, any G3 from an American carrier has the FM radio disabled at the hw level. IIRC it's done by shorting the radio out by connecting the negative to the ground.
Hi,
F3 seems to support FM Radio. But i cant find a app for radio.
Where is it?
Thx
Edit: oh.. seems we don't have FM Radio :/
Since when? It says everywhere that there is no radio app.

Licencing/certification and similar aside, I guess devices without standard 3.5mm socket cannot have headphones to use it as an fm radio antenna.
This maybe can help
fmradio.apk
No. Radio chip inside
