[Q] G2 GingerVillain ROM 1.4 > 1.5 - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, im new to the community.
I currently have GV 1.4 and trying to update to 1.5.
The problem is that when ever I try to install 1.5 it goes okay and boots up.
But when I go into Settings and About Phone it still says im on 1.4 help?
I've tried reinstalling 5+ times. Nothing changing
Help!
I cleared factory setting and cache too.
also is the download suspose to be named GingerVillian1.5.zip? or GingerVillian1.5-signed.zip like the 1.4?

You have to rename it to update.zip and then flash it.

Wait so I have to rename the GingerVillian1.5.zip to update.zip then install it?

I tried what you did, and it still did not work. =/.

From your recovery, try Advance -> Format system, then try again?

The easy way would be to use ROM manager, open rom manager, do "backup of current rom" first to back up this working rom in case you want to revert after flashing a new rom, next go to "download Rom" and choose a new rom to download (there are only currently three roms offered in rom manager CyanogenMod,Virtuous and CyanogenMod Nightlies but I dont recommend Nightlies for noobs could have lots of bugs) it will ask if you want to install it, remember to select wipe data/cache any time you switch roms, and let it install the rom.
Other wise you will have to download a rom install it to the root of your sd card, open ROM manager, select boot into recovery, wipe data, wipe cache, select install zip from sd, select choose zip from sd, choose the rom zip you installed and apply, when done reboot and finish. Remeber in either case do a backup in rom manager first.
Thank you so much, do you happen to know where i can find a sense 2.2 rom??

Thats Virtuous, its what I use, use rom manager and download Virtuous 0.8.1 full rom and install.
Remember to wipe when changing roms, you don't need to wipe when applying updates.

Anytime you install a fresh rom, it starts fresh, you can use the app titanium backup to make a backup of your apps, and info and reinstall them onto diffrent roms. I would suggest to start reading the diffrent threads in this form and start learning how you use your new rooted phone and all the options you now have. Remember there are some roms and radios you dont want to intall on your phone, like the ones made for the desire z. Also might want to check out gfree for your phone. That will give you radio s-off and a true permroot, but you have to use adb to do this. It will also unlock the carrier and carrier id for the phone(so you can use other carrier sim cards). Here is another video on how to set up adb on your computer and the driver needed for your phone.
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
Remember dont do anything unless your sure you understand the directions. Keep reading and searching, this is what is gonna help you understand diffrent aspects of modifying your phone, another good resource is youtube, look up videos on how to do diffrent things, have fun.
Alright thanks

[Q] Droid Incredible ROM fail install freeze on reboot

I have searched on google and through each droid forum site I have been sent to from google trying to fix the problem that i am having. I am currently trying to intall Incredible re imaginedv2.3 on my HTC Incredible. I have tried installing through both ROM manager and through the actual recovery. When I go through ROM manager it fails on the install reboots my phone and freezes at the HTC logo. The same thing happens with the actual recovery. Fails on install asks for the update and it cant find the update.zip file. It then freezes on reboot. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.
Sounds like a bad\corrupt download. Check your copy's MD5 with the ROM developers and make sure its not corrupt. Try downloading it again or download another ROM and try that.

its called incredibly reengineered actually lol
If youre trying it through revovery you need to "choose zip from sdcard" then scroll to downloads, using the update.zip is for something else

I have the zip on the root of my SD card. When ever I choose it it asks about the update.zip should I just hit no and ignore that step. I'm using the latest version of the clockworkmod. Version 3.0.5

Reengineered prefers. 92 HBOOT fwiw, but it will boot with an older version. That info is buried in the IncReEngineered thread. Plus, in recovery, you do NOT choose the option that says "apply update.zip", rather, you want the selection that lets you choose the zip file you want to apply.

i tired what you said and it just looped through the same steps. it repeatedly asks for the update.zip. i found something through google that said i should rename the ROM as update.zip and still no luck.

Are you sure your checking apply zip from SD card and not update.zip. if you have a recovery image you should restore it and flash the rom thru rom manager

^ that, and if not, flash back to CWM 2.5.1.2, try installing then. I had to do that when I installed that rom. I know he updated it to work with 3.0, but try anyway. If it works you just just upgrade to 3.0 after flashing the rom.

Still no luck I still get the status 7 error, and it aborts the install. I even downgraded to 2.5.1.2 and it still fails. I am starting to think that i should stay with the one that I am running for a while before i try it again.
I did some quick searching for status 7 and found alot of solutions. Not sure which direction to point you but some common themes were hboot, radio, and permission (make sure read write).... with a specific error u should be able to figure this out. Also a major problem lies with all zips in their scripting since CW recovery update(cwr3 uses edify). Incredibly reengineered zip may need to be updated to be compatible but u think it'd be more common problem if this was the case.
Ok. I will look into all of them and see witch one works. Thank you for all the help.

You sure you have s-off? Check this out.....also make sure SD formatted fat32. I've seen it recommended to wipe twice without leaving recovery(worked for some)....if you try all you can and are still stuck pm koush. He'll set you straight
Is the SD card formatted as FAT32?
Does the SD card have ample free space?
Is the radio (baseband) version on your device at least 2.x?

I reformatted my sd card to FAT32 and it fixed the error. the only thing that i ran into this time is that it failed copying over at a certain line is that because i need more space on my sd card?

[Q] Can't upgrade clockwork mod from 2.5

Okay, so I was trying to upgrade to the latest nightly for my mother, since she loves gingerbread now. So here is my issue, I know that I need clockwork mod 3.0 or higher to get the nightlies to work, I have gotten #14 to install with the old recovery she has on there now. But when I try to update the recovery it will either not upgrade or revert back to 2.5 upon reboot. For example:
If I try using fastboot to install, I get an error. I don't remember exact error, but its a long the lines of it can't install.
If I try using the PB31IMG.zip method, but it just detects the zip and wont install or anything.
If I install the recovery via the recovery, it will work for the one time it loads, then upon reboot it reverts to old one.
I tried installing the newest nightly with the old recovery, but it will just load and then soft boot and repeat forever till I pull battery.
I rooted the phone with the unrevokr root and recovery method, so I don't know if that has anything to do with my problems.
Any help would be appreciated.

I really need some help. I have no idea what has happened to my phone. Anything I d/l from the market or from the computer fc on my phone. I can't use anything. I tried flashing other roms but any ROM I flash just keeps looping the boot image over n over. Even when I try to restore one of my back ups from recovery it does the same it says error while formating data. Then Wen I reboot it just loops the boot image as well. I've tried everything I can think of. If this has happened to anyone please let me know.

By boot image do you mean "splash screen" and "boot animation?" Can you get back to recovery? If so, which recovery and version? If clockworkmos, make sure it's at least 3.0.0.7 or later if your Inc has an amoled screen, 3.0.0.8 if it's SLCD.
If you can get to recovery, power off the phone. Pull the sd card and check that your computer can read it and it's formatted FAT32.
If so, put a clean copy of a ROM on the root of the SD card. Reinsert it in the phone. Boot to hboot (you are running hboot 0.92 right!?) and then to recovery.
In recovery, factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik, then flash the ROM.
If you're running an older hboot and/or older recovery, see elsewhere on XDA how to update those first.

Have you tried flashing stock froyo and then doing a factory reset from hboot? And by stock froyo i mean the official ruu with stock recovery.
Next time you try to do a wipe, also go into mounts and storage and format boot, data, system, and cache. This happened to me once and this seemed to fix my problem. Now I do it every time.
Tried a different sd card?

X crashes all processes upon startup

Hi Xda,
I was working on putting a custom ROM on my one x as a result of it being slow.
everything started out fine, bootloader was unlocked fairly easy, gaining perm root as well.
however after a couple of tries I haven't been able to get a custom rom working properly. it will start up the system, passed the startup, then as soon as the first start screen opens up, every possible process starts crashing. (the only really visible crash is com.android.phone, however as soon as I click "ok" it will pop-up again within a second)
I've done the following:
Remove lock,
gain root access,
install CWM
downloaded ROM and Gapps (put it on the SD card)
performed a full wipe (Dalvik Cache, factory Reset)
install ROM and Gapps.
after this the problems started occurring.
a few solutions i tried:
1. I've retried the above process and included the boot.img loading using fastboot, then clearing the cache again.
2. I've wiped all possible data using the "superwipescript"
3. tried a different ROM which gave me the exact same errors.
atm i'm getting desperate because I've run out of options.
Is there a workaround for this problem?
Thanks in Advance!

felt only happy for a while, but back to problems now.
the ROM takes an hour to boot on average and won´t let me make any calls. besides the settings menu will crash as soon as I try to open anything.
