If the phone is off, and you hold vol- & pwr, do you get into the bootloader?
If so download this file
http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/stockstuff/PB31IMG_3.26.605.1_RUU.zip - 2.2
Rename it to PB31IMG.zip, put it on the root of the SD card, boot into the bootloader, let it run the update, and you will be back to a stock, unrooted 2.2. From there you can root again and do as you please.
And I see you said you were trying to downgrade to 2.1, why are you doing that? And if you want that instead of 2.2 here you go.
http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/stockstuff/PB31IMG-77-1.00-2.1.zip - 2.1

thanks
hey guys thanks for the replys.
i downloaded the 2.2 file.
remember i cant see the screen because my stupidity i know that if i get it to install it will work.
so my question is what exactly do i press to get it to update in hboot?
hboot shows up on the comp to i know its there so what do i have to do to get it to update?

Power+volume down to getin hboot. To apply update in hboot press volume up

[Q] Can't boot up after rom update on Evo went bad. Help!!

I was trying to update to the latest Myn Rom (RLS5) and I guess it went wrong because now when I boot up it loads up for a minute but then goes to black and then has 5 quick vibrations. then it just stays on black and blinks the green led. And that's it.
I can get to h-boot, but not recovery. I have:
S-On
Hboot: 0.93.0000
Radio 2.15.00.07.28
Since S-Off, it will need a signed PC36IMG.zip or something? I really don't know what to do here.
Thanks in advance for the help, you guys are great!
I would try flashing RA via bootloader as a PC36IMG.zip. If that doesnt work you could always run an RUU.

Does you have s-on or s-off? If S-ON then your nand is locked and you are not rooted
So I should be able to rename the De-odexed in this thread to PC36IMG.zip and go that route?

S-On. and I could have sworn that I had s-Off before the botched update. I have been using programs that require root such as wi-fi tether, root explorer, cpu tuner, etc.

I assume you mean RA the recovery. Which file should I use to download and change the name? I've only used .img files to flash it as an alternate recovery.
Thanks in advance.

Download the .zip file and just right click on it and select rename. Make sure its PC36IMG.zip exactly. Otherwise bootloader won't recognize it.

I did that just now. downloaded the latest from the forum post in your signature, renamed it exactly, put it on the root, held power and volume down, it read the file and said "Checking File" for a couple seconds then just went back to the regular menu. never asked me "Yes" or "No".

Sounds like you lost root somehow. I just noticed in ur earlier post that you have s-on. You most likely have to root again.

If you have a custom recovery still flash unrevoked forever, that well unlock your nand. Once that is unlocked you should be ok to continue.
Dots that update the hboot as well? If so that is probably what did it, otherwise you may have had an incomplete unrevoked root.

Is there a way to root without being able to get into the rom? I only have the hboot menu as an option of interacting with the system right now.
Still stuck here. I tried running Unrevoked3 again and there wasn't enough time for it to recognize the phone before it did the 5 vibrations and went to black and cut off the usb connection. I tried renaming the latest RUU from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874091 to PC36IMG.zip and it did the same thing as before, the blue vertical progress bar reached the top, it said "Checking" and then after a minute or so it just went back to the regular first menu.
It sounds like the solution would be to get it rooted, but I need to find a way to do that without being into the rom or recovery.
You guys are a lot smarter then me when it comes to Android and fixing borked installs and updates. I know you guys can come up with a solution here, so thanks in advance.

The link in my sig has 3.29.651 in RUU and PC36IMG.zip form, you can use one of those to get a working rom. Afterward you should be able to use the quick method to get rooted and flash a recovery again

When you renamed the file, did you actually add the ".zip" to the name? If so, the file is called PC36IMG.zip.zip and the bootloader won't see it. Just name it to PC36IMG and the .zip is added automatically.

So, I got the stock rom loaded, however I can't mount either of my microSd cards. and also when I try and install the OTA update from Sprint, it goes to black and does the 5 vibrations again. Also, unrevoked3 isn't working. Also, when I plug it into my computer it won't let me mount as a storage device.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks.

Is there another RUU I could try or another way to root that would get me access to recovery? Really not sure what to do but I'd hate to take it to Sprint and have to get a new one for this.

Root method

Maybe a dumb question, but when I rooted my Evo back in April, I can't for the life of me remember what root method I used, thus making it difficult to know how to unroot, I think? I can't reference the files on my pc I used to do it cause that one died. How do I tell what unroot method I need to use? I am rooted running Fresh and am currently s-off.
Thanks!
The rooting only work for 2.2, as no root for 2.3, and unrooting, it works, but you need to be on the 2.15.00.11.19 radio.
Rooting
1. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.p...driver_install ; Download the hboot drivers needed for rooting. The instructions are also there of how to install them, straight forward.
2. Download unrevoked3 > http://unrevoked.com/recovery/ ; It will show up as reflash_package on your desktop; leave it alone for now
3. On your phone from a home screen: menu > settings > applications > development and make sure usb debugging is checked; needed so that unrevoked can find the phone; never turn this off
4. http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/ ; Download htc sync and install it. After that, uninstall the program from your computer ; you only need the drivers from it.
5. On your phone, connect the to the pc in CHARGE ONLY, do not mount as a disk, ect, has to be charge only
6. On the desktop, run unrevoked [reflash_package], accept the disclaimer, blah blah
7. Just sit your phone down and let it do its thing. It'll take about 5 minutes, and the phone will reboot twice. Once its done, it'll say done. You can open your app drawer and you'll see an app that says superuser, and then you're done.
IF unrevoked tells you 'is your firmware too new?' boot into the bootloader [while turning the phone on, hold vol+down till you see a white screen with androids skateboarding.] Use the volume keys to navigate after the scan completes to clear storage [a factory reset, data will be lost] and then use the power button to select it, then repeat step #6.
To tether, you can flash a custom rom of your choosing after you've browsed, and then use the built in hot spot, or download wireless tether from the market, more later after you root.
Unrooting
1. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever ; Scroll down to the FAQs, then download the unrevoked s-on zip. This places the security back on your phone, because rooting makes it s-off, and if s-on, quickest way to tell your phone was rooted.
2. Flash that file from recovery, then boot back into the bootloader [vol+down while turning phone on] and verify until its s-on.
3. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/3.70 RUU Zip.zip ; rename that file to PC36IMG, place on the root of your sdcard [not in a folder] then flash it in the bootloader. When the scan that normally does nothing, it'll detect that file. Apply the update then reboot. That's a stock 3.70 firmware file, it'll take you back to stock, unrooted, s-on.
Awesome! Thanks a million! About how long does it take to run through everything? My phone has been randomly shuttting off and I don't want to risk bricking it.

Not including the time to download the files, it takes probaly ~5 minutes to run through rooting and unrooting each.

What's your bootloader version, because you'll have to use a different RUU file then.
I am currently running Fresh Rom which I believe is based on 3.70, my bootloader says 2.10.0001.

[Q] Help.. root question

So I have the Evo, I have had it rooted for a while now, and somehow I have updated my software to the 2.3.3, but my hboot is still 2.10.0001. i am rooted, but cannot get S-off and update the rest of the hardware. everytime I go to root i have an issue with my hardware being to updated or my hboot being to out of date... could someone help me out and give the a good direction on where to look for this info on how to fix this... anything would help... Thanks
You should try to bring everything up to date first, and then reroot.
You can download the latest update (PC36IMG) from:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38127313/PC36IMG.zip
Place it on the root of your SD card, then run and accept the update through your bootloader (power off, then volume down + power buttons at the same time).
If that works out, then you can find instructions on the latest root method (Revolutionary) at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218141&highlight=revolutionary+root

The first thing, you are not rooted,in hboot you will see S-Off if you are rooted, the other thing is,you need a SD card. When you get the SD card, insert it and follow these directions....
1: Download and install HTC drivers HTC drivers
2: Download the rooting tool/program revolutionary Revolutionary, downloads are at the bottom of the page. You will need to enter in your Evo's serial number (under the battery) and be sure to save the beta key. You'll need it later..(best thing to do is copy and paste the beta key into command box).
3: Enable USB debugging (settings>applications>development>turn on USB debugging) and connect the evo to your PC as charge only
4: Un-zip the S-OFF tool and run the program, making sure to install the custom recovery when prompted. (unless you already know what you're doing and want to put Amon_Ra or TWRP recovery on there)You will need a recovery, here is Amon RA Style
5: Download SuperUser and boot into recovery. To enter recovery: power off completely, yes battery pull while off too be sure, then hold volume down+power and from there go to recovery and confirm.
6: install superuser from recovery (you must put the Superuser zip on the SD card first, before booting into recovery. Or mount your SD card while in recovery to take it too your Evo. OR, download it too your phone before booting into recovery )
YOU ARE NOW ROOTED.
7: (optional but highly recommended) Make a nandroid backup via recovery and then put it on the PC just to be sure nothing will happen too it.
This is not my tool,i'm just posting this for you.You will need a rom to install, you can get them here .
He's on Hboot 097. He can root with unrEVOked, I'm pretty sure
Which is better revolutionary or unrevoked? Which is easier?
Also will this fix my issue. I dont care if im rooted or not. Sure it would be nice. But my main worry is fixing this issue first. Than rooting. But if I can "kill two birds with one stone" than even better.

First off, you're going to need an SD card. Onto that SD Card, download this file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9362091/PC3...15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.zip
Rename the file to just PC36IMG.zip, and put it on the root of the SD Card. Put the SD Card into the device, and boot into HBOOT. It should recognize the file, take a while to load it, and then ask if you want to update. Choose "yes" by pressing the Volume up button. This part will take a while - it'll reboot into bootloader once during the update process, so don't be alarmed by that, and by all means, don't touch it while it's updating. Once it's done, it'll ask you if you want to reboot. Choose yes, and then we'll see if it'll boot up. If it does, then you can proceed to root it using unrevoked3. If it doesn't, then you got a raw deal and you should get your money back (I hope you used PayPal!).

Sounds like someone sold you a semi-bricked phone. Does it still get stuck when you try booting it up? If it can't update the radio partition, then that means it's corrupt, and the phone is unusable.
it wasnt unrevoked its the pc36img that gave that error. everything else was ok.

A PC36IMG.zip is just a ROM file set up to flash in the bootloader. If that won't completely flash (especially if the radio update is failing), you might be stuck. I can give you a newer one to try, but then you'll have to use a different rooting method, if you get it to successfully update.
I don't see why it would work, though.
ill try another img file. what other way to root? isnt the way where you gotta save serial number or what not the easiest way!?

Some1 sold you a phone that was bricked. The radio update is failing cuz that's how it got bricked in the first place...bad radio updates. That is the most common way bricks happen. Get your money back asap. End of story.

Download it to your sdcard and rename it PG32IMG.zip. Turn phone off, pull battery, re-insert battery, hold vol down and power to get to bootloader and it should recognize the update file and press vol up to flash.
