Hi guys. This is my first post! I recently created an account with XDA becasue i LOVE the work and information i get and how everyone gives each other a hand Hope this hasn't been posted befrore!... I recently downloaded the droid x multi touch keyboard on my evo. When i installed a message came up saying that the app can store passwords and credit card numbers Has anyone had any issues with this? Is this really an issue? I currently use it for texting and convert to stock keyboard when inputing personal information. I would like to use my new keyboard comfortably. Thanks!
Well you best bet would be to go into settings > application > apps, and find the app and look at all the permissions granted. Some require ridiculous things like phone book access, ect. Personally, if you're second guessing your info being compromised, I'd uninstall it, but again, that's just me.
that's a common warning in android when installing any 3rd party KB. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

double post, but it does the same thing when I enable wiimote control keyboard.

ya thats what android systems tells you when enabling a 3rd party keyboard. i confirmed this when i extracted, signed, and installed the htc sense kb like a 3rd party one and it gave me the same message. its because almost all half decent kb's have word prediction and autocorrect, so they store the data. if you were to, for example, type your bank pin in using the kb, and it would store it in the dictionary, it could possibly be extracted. there is nothing to worry about though. it doesnt say 'this=bank passcode' or anything. it would jsut save the sequence of numbers for its own future referance.
welcome to the xda.
Loving the fast responses! I think im going to stick with the keyboard. Didn't think it was that big of a deal. Thank you fellas
Now these responses are not to say that your phone security is not being compromised. With the growing support for Android and all the open source developing, the likelihood of attacks to your phone is greater. I'm not too concerned with it right now, but it is something to be mindful of.
I just read a blog the other day regarding this. But then again, I haven't heard of any cases where somebody extracted or remotely manipulated another person's phone.
Welcome to XDA!
Hi,
i am sure most of you know (and hate) Android`s Standart Text-to-Speech ENgine Pico...
I discovered a new TTS Engine that is free (until november 15th)
It`s called IVONA TTS (Market Link)
After a 200MB Download you get the best artificial voice i`ve ever heard of and it works for Navigation and everything else.
It`s available in German, English, Polish, Spanish and French.
I didn`t make this app so i cant answer questions but i just wanted to let you all know and finally let you enjoy Navigation on your Phones
BTW It's a Polish app, long ago was using it on my PC...
just installed and loving it! downloaded word player for it to so my books can be read to me.
Nice find mate!
deleted
i don´t know but i doubt it. This is a really high-class product and i will gladly pay for it
Nice, downloading and testing it out. 200mb is rather large though. :x
According to Market page:
"This Free beta version has full functionality and will work without any limitations till November 15th, 2011."
This pisses me off, I can install the engine fine which upon launching, sends me to a web page of voices I can install. Clicking on English Amy takes me to the Android market application but trying to install the English Amy app just results in the Market app just constantly trying to load.
Other languages seem to be fine.
I'm a massive fan of Android but the market is just buggy as hell. Applications telling me they have updates but don't show an update button or the update still showing even after installing the new version.

what you describe is a market update and not the app itself.
have you tried deleting data from the market app?
i imagine that most of us won't use this when the beta runs out... the prices they want to charge are CRAZY!!!! Over $50 for a voice is crazy talk, (see what i did there with that pun!)
I got a discount email from them for 50 euro off and they said it's 33% of the regular price = 75 euro for the real app. So i'll definitely pass this one, cause I hate TTS apps.
But I gotta admit, this one is INCREDIBLY good.
How does it compare to samsung tts? pico tts is absolute garbage but you can force apps to use samsung instead.
or is this really out of this world and so much better?

well since samsung engine is only avaiable for chinese and korean and you have to use pico otherwise there are worlds in between.
considering the hefty price tag of 50$ i have to say that i will not gladly pay for this anymore
If it was coupled with semi-A.I. I'd pay 100 for it right away.
well it works with our pre built in vlingo voice control. it only replaces half of the sentences though (i guess some of the standart commands are pre-recorded)
Tablets are a great way to use floating apps on, big screen which enhances multitasking.
I opened this thread so me and every (soon to be) nexus 7 owners can discover new floating apps that makes using a tablet more multitask-able, fun, and life savior.
I''m gonna start with a couple of apps that I think are great, give me feedback and app recommendations ( try to provide a link to the app if possible).

also, your links are all broken.
This is exactly what I'm trying accomplish with StandOut, which let's devs easily make floating apps.

There's already one app, DarkCalc, in Google Play that uses StandOut. Please check the thread and give all the developers some encouragement if you want more floating apps on the Nexus 7!

And the learned data is stored with your google account so it doesn't forget your typing styles everytime you flash a new ROM.
I agree I have paid and try virtually all the keyboards and 1

1)the prediction is the most accurate I have seen. It learns from your sms, Facebook, Gmail, twitter account. But the most amazing part, it learn your writing patterns and mistake on the keyboard. In other words, every time you quickly right a word doing a "position" mistake (which is often a mistake by proximity, it will know next time what you mean and predict the words accordingly. Also I am French canadien living in Québec right on the border of the Ontario province so my text are half French half English and this is by far applying both language at the same time without having to change language at all and prediction in my case are perfect even if 2 full dictionary applicable. I am sure that it would be even more perfect with only one language. I have been using it since my galaxy s then 2 s2 and now s3 and I did do good compares very objectives giving time, etc. I give this one a 9/10 and the other good ones are a big notch down this score.
Won't let me purchase it, say geographical restrictions. I am in Canada.
Swiftkey is still available on the play store for .99 also https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey&feature=apps_promotion_2012_08_27_SeasonEndSale#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLG51bGwsImNvbS50b3VjaHR5cGUuc3dpZnRrZXkiXQ..

Not sure if it will work for you. I have paid full price for it long time ago. But often when I cannot download apps, I just use a regular computer. Google *android play store". Enter your Gmail and password. Search the app. Buy it. It's basically the same as if you were on your phone. But from a pc connection. It may let you buy it and will push it to your phone within a few seconds. Before doing so I would uncheck every options under settings /location from your s3. If this doesn't work, pm me.
I do have trouble getting it to learn my cuss words and anything that has just two letters.

Got it for free from Amazon App of the Day last year. It is the best keyboard yet that supports (I can make them work from its menu) other languages
This really sucks, I just paid full price from the play store for this last week... fml.
I currently use Swype Beta and really like it. What is Swiftkey like?

Doesn't S3 has swype built in into the default Samsung keyboard? Mine does
Maybe they have a free trial for you to check it out or you could check out http://www.swiftkey.net/
I never noticed a Samsung version of Swype previous to me actually installing Swype. The GS3 standard keyboard wasn't that great in my opinion.
I love this keyboard and the trial ran out for me just the other day. Seeing that $0.99 price tag made me
Hi,
Is there a way to tell if a play store app is native to Android TV?
In addition to the great list posted in the forum.
Otherwise you can confirm if the emulator MD.EMU (payment) and My Oldboy! (payment).
Or Is File Explorer Manager PRO (paid) supported? The free is but I have read that it is not the case of the payment.
Thank you!
Android TV devices are certified devices that come with a special version of play store, that only work in android tv devices.
If the apps you mention are found there it means they are compatible.
There are apps that work and support both handheld and tv modes, but there are others that only have leanback code in them and the rest are handheld only which dont have the leanback interface.
If you cant find those apps in official play store for Android TV you can sideload them or install a 3rth party market app to download them, but the apps may or may not work properly due to the lack of some permissions in Android TV OS, and also if the apps are not properly updated to work in nougat in first place.
You also have another alternative to Android TV , check my signature.

Not so sure about the Oldboy App, as I have not heard of it. But, there are plenty of pay for Emus, including MD.EMU if that's your thing. The only pay for Emu I personally went for was the Real3DOPlayer, and that was only 'Cause I couldn't get it to work under RetroArch. Which is really, the only Emulator you'd ever need.
Besides, ouYabuse (Saturn), or Dolphin (GameCube, Wii), alas that Emu still needs some Work though.
But, on the whole of it as far as Emulation goes, as long as you keep it realistic. (e.g. pre-PS2 epoch), the sky is pretty much have the limit. Granted RetoArch is great for about 90-ish% of your needs. Otherwise there are plenty of bespoke paid apps to cover the last 10%, or so.
As someone who has ES File Explorer Pro. It's a funny case. It seems that the TV App Store has a major hardon for the Malware version of this, and not the Pro. So its very hard to get it to find it. I generally tend to just sideload the off an SD Card. Which isn't a problem as it's licenced to my account, and it works just fine with the Remote.

Thanks for the reply.
My OldBoy It is an emulator for GB / GBC that at least normal Android is going great.
I was wondering if anyone had been able to look at it, since I do not have a Shield by hand, I would arrive in a week.
And regarding the File Explorer PRO I found it curious to read in the forum Geforce that only supported the version with malware and instead the payment was not.

Yeah I kinda gathered that Oldboy, might have had something to do with the Gameboy etc... Alas pretty much anything pre-NDS-3D, is so well covered under RetroArch. I never saw much use in it. It's the stuff that should work under RetroArch... e.g. 3DO, and Saturn emulation, which don't under the Shield TV. That has driven me to support the pay for options.
I think the difference between the free, and the Pro version of ES-FE Pro. Is that the Pro version does not automatically pop into the AndroidTV PlayStore. In fact before you even go any further. Let us be very clear on this one point.
AndroidTV (PlayStore), ≠ Android (PlayStore). Blame Google! Because of that it's like >90% emptier than ye old Phablet Edition. This is due to those Apps being built with Phablets (i.e Touch), in mind. AndroidTV has made all touchy-feelly Apps VERBOTEN on the AndroidTV platform. Such as they no longer show up.
So I suspect that's kinda what's going on with ES-FE where the Developer never flagged it as compatible with AndroidTV. Leaving the ever Ad spewing (and perpetually Money maker) on the PlayStore. 'Cause they've already had my Money for Pro, for nearly Two Years now, and I'm not about to fund 'em some more. Probably answers why Google aren't including it in the ATV-PS.
It's like most of the Amazon Underground stuff. You can sideload that as well, and install a few Games. But, outside of the Goat Sims, Alto, and Riptide GT. A lot of those Games don't work correctly with the Shield Controller either. Best example, would be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
So if you have that One app you just have to test it out by sideloading it first.
P.s. I'm starting to suspect that your "My Old Boy" App might be one of these Apps. As it is not showing up inside the ATV-PS. It seems to prefer Robert Broglia's Emulators instead. Now that may be 'cause he went back and compiled a specific ATV version of them. You might want to contact the Dev of My Old Boy, and request an AndroidTV version, which you can install off the PlayStore. Or, you can copy the *.apk off of your Phablet, and transfer it to the Shield TV. In which case you will also need to install something called Sideload Launcher. As most Sideloaded Apps do NOT tend to be displayed under Leanback Launcher.
I also have ex file explorer pro, but I found "xplorer" are easier to use with remote on Android TV, give it a try.
