Hi, I was on Leedroid of last years build so I thought I'd give a go at a HD rom.
I installed CoolHD and I love new sense features but I'm having problem with adfree.
I doesn't block ads. I tried updating, reinstalling but I still get ads on my apps.
I searched on google and forum and CoolHD post but I don't see any information on this.
Thanks
I think I found my problem. S-on seems to cause Adfree not to work although on Leedroid it didn't have problem. Trying to get S-off now.
Edit: Nop, that wasn't it. Not fixed. Any help will be appreciated!
Flashy flashy
Just tried adblock. I get
"E:Failure at line3:
copy_dir Package:system Sytem:
Installation aborted"
I still don't get why adfree doesn't work.
If you have s-off, try this. Use something like Root Explorer, go to /system/etc and delete the hosts file or its symlink. Then run Adfree and update the hosts file. Make sure the symlink check-box is unchecked.
I'll give that a go when I restore rom just to see if that fixes it next time I flash new rom.
I changed to InserCoin Z and adfree works now.
I am using REDUX 1.0.1 and my adfree aint working either, and friend of mine has GSG on Darkys ROM and adfree working charmingly... it seems something in the ROM

Have been unable to get the calibration tool to work with this.
Currently, I am using a theme generated version which works great, but I need to calibrate it to better for how I type.
Using Calibrate FC on me.
I attempted to update the clicker.apk but it won't load.
Anyone run into this, have a fix.

If your rooted and nand unlock, use rootexplorer to move the clicker_hi.apk to /system/app/ make sure you set permissions and reboot your phone, the calibration tool should work.
Did something similar to that... I moved the clicker*.apk (there were two of them) files to and oldapp directory and then I was able to install the new one. No reboot was needed.
Now the keyboard is calibrated to my typing reach and is back to what it was like before the 2.2 update.

Sitting here for hours trying to figure out how to regain my old DINC 2.1 HTC_IME keyboard, without any success. Rooted, w/S-OFF, Froyo (2.2) under Virtuous 2.6. Edit_01: Then, not sure what I did that was different, but I was able to update my HTC_IME keyboard with a "new" version that I created at the gimpsta.com site. So, my DINC (Rooted, w/S-OFF, Froyo (2.2) under Virtuous 2.6) is working without issue.
Before I was successful in loading a new keyboard, and during my research using Root Explorer (RE), I saw that there were a couple of HTC_IME files in the system and cache directories, but RE said they were read only and would not allow me to move or delete them. Krelvinaz, what was your secret? I saw a clicker.apk and HTC_IME.apk files under the phone data and system folders, even though the apps had been uninstalled in Astro Manager and no longer show(ed) in the Language and Keyboard or in the Applications/Manage Applications settings section. There was only one program called HME IME Test listed in Manage Apps during my troubleshooting searches.
At one time, I did try to load a current version of the clicker.apk, but I got an error message. Is there a clicker calibration utility, for the keyboard and how do I load it.

While I did stumble into a successful keyboard installation, I have spent yet more time to figure out how to change permissions in Root Explorer(RE). Not wanting to complicate a working HTC_IME, I tested my RE ability and changed the startup boot mp3 sound in the system directory. So far, so good. However, I am reluctant to delete the clicker.apk, at this time, hoping I might get some knowledgeable feedback about my question on whether there is a calibration utility, for this keyboard. I cannot remember if I actually ran the clicker.apk, way back when I got the phone. I was unable to install it today, because it already exists in the system, and I would need to remove it first. Still hopeful someone might expand on the keyboard and the clicker.apk.
Hey Guys
Im trying to get rid of these annoying ads from pingchat or angry birds and even though the adfree is installed downloaded the hosts files etc and rebooted it still shows the ads, did Google blocked adfree in Froyo roms?
thanks
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall adfree ? I had this issue before and that fixed the problem.
Must admit I'm having trouble with it at the moment too, been the last week or so maybe?
When I first rooted my phone (about 3 weeks ago) it was fine, but more recently it refuses to work. App itself is happy, just that it doesn't block ads.
Yeh well just reinstalled adfree and still nothing :/ hmm any ideas appreciated

Try Redux RC6 ROM, it seems to have adblocking built in (and is also a generally fantastic ROM) - its working well for me right now.
Also try Gingervillain 0.9 - once you're running it, you can install an adblocking zip from the villain setup app which is built in to the ROM. GV 1.0 is now available, but general feedback seems to suggest that it is buggy compared to 0.9, so go for 0.9 - I used to use this and it was fine, plus adblocking worked!!
I've always found setup to successfully run it to be different with every other ROM I tried - even across versions of the same ROM (which is a PITA). Mainly because of the variance in ROM structures. Right now for instance, I'm debugging the same issue on RCMixHD v3.0 D2W and I still can't manage to get it working.

I've managed to get it working again by finding my "hosts" file and deleting it and letting adfree to regenerate it again. Somewhere in "etc" folder.
Hope this helps.

what directory?
and btw I am not willing to change my rom until gingerbread for nexus is released and ported
Its straight in system/etc.
I also just had this link suggested. Flash via recovery for hosts update, host listing updated weekly so just reflash if you start getting ads.
Just removed adfree and flashed this and can confirm it works.

I've searched high and low for a solution to this that works for me, both here and everywhere else Google would point me, but I have yet to find one that works, so I hope someone can help me.
I've an original Desire running a rooted Froyo ROM, which was rooted using unrevoked ages ago (probably a year or so no). When I originally rooted it, everything worked perfectly. A few months ago I ran the newest version of unrevoked over it again to update the recovery to the latest clockwork and it appeared to work fine, but ever since I did this the superuser app will continually pop up asking for permissions every time any app that needs root is run (sometimes MANY times, as when Titanium backup is run).
I've tried different things to see if I could fix it - clearing the data for the Superuser app, clearing the Dalvik cache, even reflashing the older clockwork recovery back onto my phone with the older version of unrevoked which originally worked, but with no luck. The phone is still S-ON, but I don't see why that would matter when I had no problems with the original rooting of the phone.
I'm stuck and am not sure where to go from here, so any advice would be very appreciated.

When you're on Superuser app, do you see your apps with green button on the rigth ?
Witch version of Superuser app do you use ? Mine is v2.3.6.3 with cmd su v2.3.1-ef
Also, when being asked for permission, is "Remember" checked?
why not just re-root?

Yes you should have a list of allowed apps on opening the su app itself - click apps on top left. The allowed apps shouldn't keep requesting permission each time.
You coukkd uninstall su app then reinstall from market?
Nandroid backup first!
Thanks for the all the replies, much appreciated!
@punky.mtp & @stringer7: Yes, I can see the apps I've granted permissions to in the Superuser app, each has a green button against it. I'm not sure of the current version of SU I'm running, but I know it's not the latest version. I've tried to update it from the Market but it won't over-write the existing installed SU. I'm doing a nandroid as I type and will try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if that helps.
@HiVoltage85: Yes, I've set the remember checkbox as well for each app when granting permission.
@BigMrB: I've already re-rooted with different versions of unrevoked, several times, which hasn't fixed the problem.
I'll let you know how I go.
Sorry, I'm giving away my ignorance, but how do I uninstall my current Superuser app? The uninstall button is disabled in the manage applications part of the phone's setup.
Edit - Never mind, I found how to do it.
Looks like I have it fixed. I was able to remove the old Superuser app and install a new one from recovery (v2.3.6.3) which works properly and doesn't keep asking for permissions repeatedly. Thanks for the suggestions and help!
Hey Guys,
I looked for a specific post relating to my issue, but I couldn't find one. I just installed MIUI 111250 on my Verizon Droid Incredible. I've been rooted since day one, and up until now I have been on skyraider with NO problems. I used rom manager to move over, and I cleared all the data. The ROM installed with no issues, but I cannot access root with any of my apps. They are requesting permission, and I have granted them permission, but no luck. I've checked the SU app, and everything is enabled (including manage permissions). Has anyone else had this problem. Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions.

Do you have Busy Box installed? I have had this similar issue before and installing busy box off the market cleared it up for me.
RE:
I've tried installing busybox, but it will not let me. I actually tried both installers with no success. Any other ideas?
You can RUU to stock and re-root using unrevoked. Just make sure you use the Froyo RUU. After that try installing MIUI again...
RE: RUU
A little more info..... I downloaded "Root Checker", and it is telling me that I have root. This seems really weird to me! I am going to try flashing CM7 to see if I have root with that ROM. I will keep let you guys know how it goes.
RE: RUU
Is there a specific way you recommend to RUU? I tried using ADB shell, but I get permission denied when I do CHMOD. Do you have a better idea? Isn't there an exe out there that will do this for me? Thanks!
Check out pvillecomp.com I think the froyo ruu is there. I'm not by a pc right now otherwise id be able to point you in the right direction. Make sure you use the froyo ruu so that you can root with unrevoked.

I doubt an RUU is necessary in this situation, it sounds like an issue with superuser. Try downloading "superuser update fixer" from the market and see if that fixes your problem. This isn't a rom issue, it's a SU issue. Did you update SU through the market?
Fixed it....
I am not sure what the problem was, but I am leaning towards it being a SU issue. Whatever the case, I reflashed the rom (this time from clockwork directly instead of ROM manager). This did the trick! Thank you guys for all of your help.
So I was trying to downgrade my busybox to use the v6 Supercharger script. I had 1.19.3 installed. Was trying to go down to 1.18.3 I believe.
I used BusyBoxInstaller from the market to install the older one, and when it tried to download and install it said it didn't have the permissions and failed even though Superuser was allowing the app.
I figured it might of installed regardless so I went to ScriptManager and that wouldn't open, just FC. So I went back to BustBoxInstaller, and it started stating that my phone wasn't rooted and wouldn't open. I went to RootExplorer and that just hangs and then FC's. Restarted the phone, same issues. Tried a different busy box installer (BusyBox from the market) and it states some files are missing and it won't install either.
I used EsFile Explorer and I go into System/Xbin and it shows a busyBox file there, but I can't even mess with that. It can't be moved, renamed or anything. Not sure if it should even be messed with.
I tried searching this issue up around XDA, couldn't find anything similar.
Anyhow, did I just mess up pretty good and do I need to reflash my ROM? or is there a quick fix without all the mess?
I think I would reflash the ROM, then use the busybox installer on a fresh flash, before you restore anything, to install the version of busybox that you want
There are two busybox installers that I'm aware of, have you tried both? I prefer the newer one on the market - I think it's by jrummy. Also make sure the install location is correct.
If you've somehow reverted to s-on then the file won't install either. I doubt this is the case but I remember one case of someone having issues with something to do with a file in system and after trying everything they finally realized they were somehow s-on.

This is true quoted for truth!
I checked and I'm s-off. I used both busybox apps. The one from rummy won't even open. It states I'm not rooted and then closes. The other app (just called busybox) opens but when I hit install it basically states the same thing. I can't choose the install location on that one either. I saw something about pushing it with ABD tool. Just not at home to try that out. Thanks for the help guys. Probably gonna have to wipe and start over.

I have this same issue. Ever since the busybody updated I cannot do anything. I can't go into root explorer, install any apks will not connect to wifi or wimax
Want to point out a few things, if your running scripts use Busybox 1.18.2. Secondly, the app in the market, Busynox Installer works wonder, however, sometimes when you change the version number it doesn't stick. Today, I had to cycle through installing 1.18.2 four times until it stuck. After installing another version, use root check to verify the version of busybox installed before proceeding to using any scripts. Also, check with the rom your using and make sure theres no issues. Each rom behaves differently.

Thanks for the help. Again though I can't get into BusyBox Installer or BusyBox app (both from the market) So I really don't have a choice to get it to stick or to pick where it installs. I wound up having to just go back and recover off an old ROM backup I had.
I did try go back to 1.18.2 but BusyBox Installer (the one by Rummy) for some reason it wouldn't install. It kept saying that I didn't have permission and then another pop-up would come saying "superuser access permitted" or something like that. I hit install a few times, and kept getting the same error. I figured it was just a bug in the app. I tried going into the Script manager but it would FC without opening. I then tried going back into BusyBox installer which then claimed that I wasn't rooted (even though I show S-Off) and then would close. I then tried going into RootExplorer to delete the script thinking that might be the issue. Root Explorer would just hang. It'd stay on a black screen..say "this is taking longer then normal. Force close or wait" I hit wait 3 times, and no luck. Tried restarting multiple times, same issues.
Earlier today it stared effecting my connectivity or so I assume because all of a sudden I'd be roaming, the not, then I would be again..on and off all day. I never had that issue on that ROM before this whole busybox issue.
Anyhow. Again, I just reverted back to the old ROM I had and am going to sit on it for a bit.
Thanks to everyone for the help, ideas, tips, etc. It's greatly appreciated.
