[Q] Desktop Visualizer - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm hoping somebody can provide a little insight in regards to desktop visualizer. I'm looking for someone familiar with this app as I'm following the instructions line by line to create images as app shortcuts but everytime I try to do this, it says "Failed to create shortcut or widget".
I'm running MIUI on my Evo. I have tried using DV on top of launcher pro but I get the same error message. Could it be that DV is not compatible with MIUI???
It doesn't matter what size widget I try to create- 2x1, 4x2, 1x4... I first select an image (of the same size, of course), I select an action, and when I hit ok, it says "failed to create shortcut or widget".
Could someone PLEASE give me a little advice or personal insight here? Thanks everybody!!

I am running MIUI 1.3.5 and desktop visualizer works fine for me. It is compatible with MIUI, my guess is that it isn't working right with Launcher Pro for you. Try it with stock MIUI launcher and see if it works. Also, could possibly be the type of image file you are using.

I just tried it with launcher pro as a trouble shooting thing. Im running stock MIUI. I'm still on 1.1.28. I'm too lazy to reflash every week. The first version I flashed giving me a few issues so someone on xda told me to go with 1.1.28 as it hadn't given him any trouble. I assume you were still running DV then, yeah? Certainly that isn't it. And as far as the pics I'm using, they are icon packs straight out of xda.
I select which size I want to use out of the widget drawer, then click on the empty green rectangle, choose the image, then the action, then hit ok and boom- error message!! What am I missing???

That's odd, it is possible it is that version of Miui I guess, I didn't start using DS until this version of Miui. Any reason not to try out new Miui?

Nope, I suppose it is worth a try. Does 1.3.5 have the miui camera? Is it running pretty solid for you?
I'm not missing something, am I? Do I have to change something in settings? I just tried again with no luck. The only thing I can do is to open up the app from my homescreen and make a shortcut. For whatever reason, that works fine.
If there was some huge flaw with 1.1.28 not being compatible with DV, you would thing it would have been discussed. That's why I'm a little reluctant to think that is the problem. This is so damn frustrating!!!

Miui is running very solid for me, I switched to Tiamat Kernel and I am getting best battery life I have ever had too!
Good point you brought up though, miui cam is not available yet - hoping for it in the next couple of days. The camera still works great, just don't have front facing camera yet.
I agree that it seems odd that the rom version would be causing the issue, because you are right, I kind of doubt it is what is causing the problem. Wish I could be more help.

I got it to work. I downloaded the DVR image slice tool and when I select an image I go to add ons and select my pic through that. Weird, huh? But hey, it works. Thanks for your help though. I certainly appreciate the effort!

Thank you for putting this together! I'm downloading it right now! How did you make this one? Is it just a modded CM7 or Nexus S build, or is this a real AOSP build of Gingerbread?
That's what I've been lookin for is a complete AOSP build of GingerBread for the MT4G.
What Version clockwork do we need?
Can you post a link for it?
Thanks will give it a try.

I didn't change the GAPS, are you still able to go manually change the wallpaper to Nexus S live? I'm still working on getting the microbes wallpaper fixed I have it running but then freezing after a few times locking the screen. Hopefully I'll stumble across whatever it is causing the problems with the wallpapers.
im going to give this a shot im hoping it has alot of support im looking for a stock rom the cm7a has trackball wake/unlock working any chance of that being in your rom also this you can add this edit to your rom? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10339342&postcount=2671

[Q] Acer Launcher on G2

anyone here get acer launcher to install on the G2 on CM7?
if so, what apk did you use? does it FC on you all the time?

I don't have experience with it, but this was the only thread I was able to find on XDA through search (that had any sort of recent replies). Did a search in the thread so I wouldn't have to read through the 10 pages and it doesn't seem like there was anyone reporting in from the G2/Desire Z camp to give success or failure stories, so you'll have to test it out for yourself.
The only other alternative I can think of right now is mentioned by joe3681 above me in the Liquid Villain thread. I flashed the rom when it was first released and gave it a couple of minutes, but it was a drastic change and I missed the features/familiarity of CM7, so I went back. It definitely isn't CM7 if that's what you're looking to keep, but if the launcher is something that's really that important to you, then this may be your only option. The dev doesn't seem to be actively providing updates to it as it seems stable/nothing to update, but a gingerbread port does seem to be in the works/planned.
It should also be noted that there is now an option in CM7 to have the status/notification bar at the bottom (under tablet options in CM settings). This might give you a slight compromise.
Hope I helped a little bit.

yea it does say not installed if you try to use the apk to install it. im guessing there is a compatibility issue
Launchers aren't typically listed in the app drawer. Once it's installed, push the home softkey and it will ask you what you want to use to complete the action. Set it to use the launcher of your choice as default. The same goes for ADW, LauncherPro, Go Launcher, and more I'm sure. Go Launcher does have an icon I believe though.
Or are you saying that the apk fails to install altogether?
Yes I am saying it does not install at all

Go Launcher Icon Effects

Not sure if anyone has the same problem but i can't seem to figuire this one out.
I apologise if this has been talked about before, But have searched extensively without luck.
The problem is that when i go to change the App drawer Icon effect, The option is completely shaded out and I'm not allowed to pick one.
I reinstalled it but that didn't change anything.
Anyone know of this issue and have a solution!
Thanks in advance!
Im using GO Launcher EX and it works fine for me.
What effect is it currently stuck on?
Did the launcher come with a Custom ROM? or have you installed it yourself on a standard ROM?

The only serious issue I'm having with this ROM is the dialer. Usually when I type the first few letters of someone's name, it pops up. On this dialer, all I get is numbers. Am I missing a setting/option somewhere to change this?

I don' recall AOSP dialer ever doing that, but I could be wrong. To view contacts you just select the contacts tab. I know the Sense dialer does that.
I've been running this ROM for a couple days now, it's great. The only bug I've found is the normal reversed compass orientation, which is a bit annoying but doesn't effect driving navigation at all.
Other than that, everything else (MMS, etc) is working fine. For users wondering what it's like, think CM7 running LauncherPro instead of ADW, and you're pretty close.

Sounds to me like you're used to using the Sense dialer. I don't think the stock AOSP dialer does that.
I replaced the default dialer with "DialerOne", which is free on the market. Take a look if you like this ROM but want to maintain your Sense dialer functionality.

Best ICS Rom

PreludeDrew, Kush Deck or JaredTheGreat? Wondering what people are running out of the three ICS roms.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I installed Team Blaze's (Jared) newest ICS last night and was running Drew's prior to. I would say at this point they are almost the same... each one is making improvements... As for my experience... Jared's is solid and I haven't ran into anything broken. There are some things a little buggy (like TTS errors when opening Navigation, but TTS working just fine) but I haven't found anything broken. They are all working on making the camera better and it works on Jareds. These aren't final releases so I am good with what I have! Can't wait until these things get smoothed out as ICS is tight.
Jared The Great all the way baby.
ICS Question
I have been following these ROMS.
At least on the home screen they appear to be still pretty buggy.
I don't know if the MMS is working, the camera, all that stuff.
Just curious if someone can tell me what I need to expect after installing.
I am currently using Synergy non-god mode and hate it. It is SO LAGGY. It takes a good 15 seconds to get the icons to populate my home screen. I need a new rom and was wondering if these were worth switching too.
Thanks all.

He was asking about ICS not MIUI if I'm reading the first post correctly. MIUI fanboys are as bad as apple fanboys...
I'm running Deck's alpha 5 and it's really solid. Trebuchet is buggy but that's a known issue and the solution is to run Nova instead. It's definitely worth flashing an ICS ROM to get a feel for how they are.
james
I have run both Jared's and Drew's. Both solid build... both buggy as hell. They are still working on them. To be honest... the best one right now will probably be the one with the latest release.
Decks Alpha 5 for me with CoD tweaks. I haven't tried any of the other ones but this one is rock solid for me. There are quirks but any rom has those. Honestly I have better battery life on this then I ever have had before.

MIUI is actually different in looks as well as useability. And Im not a fanboy. It just is the best all around rom. Alot of people dont like the iphone like no app drawer as do i. But once u have one in miui it is by far the best rom available. For sure it is the least laggiest evo rom. And by the way these are facts. And if u disagree u must be a ics fanboy or just a straight up MIUI hater. Bu bye!

Gentlemen, best is predetermined to be biased upon your own preferences; there is no right answer here. Yes, ICS does have some nice features, like improved voice commands, better folder management, ect. And for MIUI yes it is a lil 'iphone' like in essence, but different from all the rest. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you change the launcher, you fix the 'no app drawer' issue, which some people tend not to like.
