Might be getting a dinc. - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Moving from tmobile to verizon. A couple questions for you guys. How are the external speakers on the dinc? The one on my defy is super loud and i would hate to loose that. I got to play with one today in a verizon store, and i have to say i do love the phone. Just looking for a little input from the dinc community. Thanks guys.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

It's about as loud as my last 2 blackberrys. Not sure its as loud as the EVO, but my friend blew the one on his EVO. Frankly, this is the best phone ice ever owned. In my opinion, its the best on Verizon, STILL, after all this time. The Samsung is nice, but not as nice. (If I wanted an iFone, if just get one.) The only dInc down side is lousy battery life.... like most other HTC's, but custom ROMs and kernels help that a lot.

Out of those three phones, I'd definitely say the Incredible. I've never really had any problems with it that wasn't my fault. Solid build quality, awesome performance, and it's sexy as hell . Plus, theres a bunch of ROMs out for it with great developers backing them; it's a no brainer.

+1 trouble free inc
+1 the dinc out of the box is awesome even if you don't root and Rom.
Well I'll be getting the Thunderbolt, and there's really no advantage of the Inc over it. However if you cant wait, there really isn't a better phone for Verizon. Period.
I agree with everyone else, go with the Incredible.

Everyone I know that has gotten a Droid X has returned it and most of the time gotten the Incredible or went back to their previous phone and decided to wait for a different phone down the line.

I really would like to get the ThunderBolt myself, mainly for the 4G as my area's 3G has been lacking since they upgraded to 4G here. I'm not sure why, it just has been that way for me and other 3G users.
+1 for Inc..but I am bias

Love my dinc. its been out some time so there are tons of roms/mods
Agree. I love my Incredible. The only thing I don't like much is when I'm playing ROMs on my phone and have to use the on screen controls. But I'm hopefully going to order a gamepad thing for it here soon.
I did however have a problem with a battery of mine just recently. I think it was due to the millions of charge/discharge cycles I had put it through and the massive amounts of tethering which caused it to heat up.
What happened was that it swelled up to the point where the back cover wouldn't fit on anymore lol. So Verizon sent me a "like-new phone" (aka refurb) and since they didn't have a stock battery they're sending me an extended battery and battery cover.

I'm seeing a lot of droid incredible advertisements instead of thunderbolt, so something major is going on there.
+1 for incredible, works great out of the box and easy to mod
Sense is excellent, so I would recommend any HTC phone. Specifically, the Thunderbolt 4G or The Incredible.
THAT BEING SAID, I want the Droid Bionic when it drops this summer. It is simply the better phone.

Droid I2 or switch for upcoming Moto Droid 3

I am in a pickle..
On one hand, I have always loved HTC phones. I had the verizon VX6800 when it came out and love it for a long time. Then switched to some crap phone when I broke it.
When Motorola released the Droid, i paid for it out right. Loved it! treated that thing like gold. When they released the Droid 2, i was able to get it from Best Buy for free with a upgrade. I grabbed it, was able to sell my mint condition OG Droid too.
The Droid 2, I wasn't so impressed with. Yes it was just like the droid, but blur and the quality just wasn't there like the OG droid. Just a few weeks ago, I got Verizon to replace it for me with the Droid Incredible 2.
Back to HTC, I have to say im impressed. the lack of the Qwerty keyboard does put a cramp in my style that I have been used to for the past 2 years but nothing swype didn't fix.
So now, I see the droid 3 coming out in like a week. I could still return the Droid I2 for it. But I am unsure, with the DI2 getting Gingerbread soon and how well built the phone is. Also my bad run with the droid 2...
Any thoughts on what to do?

Honestly I'm willing to wait on the dual core...how much RAM does the d3 have? I mean the x2 is awesome but is bottlenecked by its RAM. This thing multi tasks awesomely because of its RAM. And the battery life can't be beat. I'm a heavy user and with the slightly larger battery I got 20 hours today with the screen on time of almost 5 hours...and I live in the middle of no where so I have cell service only half the time.

I never thought a MOTO phone would be the more open choice, but if you want to root don't go with the inc2. It is one of the most locked down phones ever released. The only known stable root method costs a costs over a 100 dollars. There are some who claim they have a software root, but in my professional opinion a stable version of it will never be released. If you want to lock yourself into a 2 year contract on what is probably an empty promise, that is your choice, but I wouldn't.
Now if you don't care about root, the inc2 is a great phone.

Its sad that some people keep talking bad about phones/devs cuz they "think" they are smart. Have you exploited root? No. Have you made a rom? No. Did your mom dress you this morning? Yes. If you don't care about reality, this is a great post.
As it stands, a quick browse of this users posting history should reveal just how worthless his posts are. (Edit: It seems the majority of his posts have been removed by moderators. Understandable, it's just too bad most of the evidence of his stupidity has been deleted.)
As for the phones, my preference would be the Dinc2 because I don't need a QWERTY, but if that's your thing then the Droid 3 might be for you. If I were you I'd spend some time in the store playing with the D3 to determine if you prefer the "feel".
I would guess you'd be disappointed if you switched. I've rooted tons of phones, the Inc2 is by far the best android device i've touched to date. My phone turns circles around a DX2 with it's dual core.
Give swiftkey a try for a keyboard if you're coming from a physical one, it's awesome.
After the issues I have and had with my DROID 2 Global, Motorola would have to do a lot to earn my business again. I mean, it is nice having a stable phone, which the D2G is NOT!

This. Of all the phones in my possession at the moment, the only one I truly dislike is the D2G. Its just awful. Having owned a Droid X and Droid 1, the only way Motorola could win me back is if they just ditched blur entirely and made a quality, open phone like the Droid 1 was. If people keep buying the garbage they produce, nothing will ever change.

I'd urge caution for the D3. Head into the store and check it out first. It uses the same PenTile qHD display which some people (myself included) think is painfully grainy looking. I won't even pull a DX2 off the shelf unless people specifically ask for it because I'm so embarrassed to show them the display if they're coming from a OG Droid or something with a much better looking display. If I hold a DX2 up next to a Samsung Charge, it's glaringly obvious what the difference between Super AMOLED+ and qHD is. qHD does not fare well in that comparison.

well, I had the original incredible and even though it was a struggle with my big hands, it was still a great phone. I ended up getting the thunderbolt awhile back and yes, the bigger size was a plus for me, but the phone had some issues(including terrible battery life even with extended battery). I had 30 days to bring it back through best buy and in the last week the droid charge & incredible 2 were supposed to come out. originally I was thinking the charge, but then it got delayed so I just got the incredible 2. at first I was a bit bummed about the no 4G thing but other then that this has been a pretty solid phone.

Fascinate to DInc2-good idea?

So here's my story. I have the fascinate now, got it when it came out & have another year to go to upgrade. The froyo update has created pretty significant missed call issues that vzw is addressing by offering a switch to the DInc2 or the X2. My wife has the Dinc1 & I had the eris before so I'm familiar with sense ui. How does this phone compare to them or to the X2? I'm looking for input before I make my choice.

I cannot speak for the DX2, but I for one love my DInc2. It's the perfect size, and has the perfect feel for the hand. The processor is lightning quick; keep in mind that this is the next generation Snapdragon. Even though it's not Dual Core, it's still really fast!
You get a great camera, still a good screen, and a front facing camera which you do not have on the DX2. The DX2 has a qHD display, but from what I've heard, and this is hearsay and opinion, it's not that great. I don't like Blur, and I came from a Stock Android OG Droid, so Sense was the better choice for me.
Battery life isn't the best I've seen, but it's also not the worst. Depends on usage, but I can get through most of the day with it. Gingerbread helps here, and also makes the phone even faster than it was with Froyo. I would recommend the DInc2. Good luck!
i came from the fascinate, as did my wife, and i can tell you we're absolutely happy with the dinc2. i'm on CM7 nightly, she's running gingersense (she doesn't know that, she thinks she's full stock. shhhh.) it's so much better than the fascinate in every way.
if you liked the fascinate's screen, then the DX2 won't be good enough. the incredible 2's screen is pretty comparable.
Bro as much as I loved my fascinate, I had the same issues with missed calls. Took 3 replacements to finally get offered something else. Dinc2 or the x2. I'm not a fan of the x's so I chose the dinc 2. This phone literally ****s on the fassy. I have not experienced any bugs. Now that it's rootable it's even more beast. The screen isn't super amoled . But, it looks great. The difference in screens really seems to be black. It looked better on the fassy but every other color looks better on dinc 2
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
I'm in the same boat as everyone here....I had the fassy and couldn't handle the missed calls so when I called it was this or the droid x (not x2) for free or I could upgrade early and sign a new 2yr contact. which I thought about cuz I too have a yr left on my current contact. (really thought I wanted the droid charge) I have never been happier that I picked the inc 2.
When I first started looking into the support for this phone I thought I made a mistake as it seemed like there was none and as you know the fascinate community was full of ppl and devs. But now that we have root this is by far the best phone out (imo) and has plenty of amazing devs who have really brought out its potentially.

Wish I could've seen that where I live but every dinc2 I saw at the vzw stores had the same -dbm (or close) as my fascinate showing only 2 bars. Moving on from the fascinate!

Dinc2 should be here on Friday! I miss my dinc the fascinate is a good phone but the time with the Inc people is greatly missed.

I'm in the same boat...
I'm migrating over from the fascinate after dealing with far too many missed call, 3g data, and GPS bugs. I know nitsuj17 is coming over too, so hopefully that results in some great continuity from our old community. Anything you guys was recommend to some users just starting out on the inc2?
I came from the fascinate also and was sad to make the switch, but after you root this phone it is amazing.
The community is building and I am on a very stable Gb rom. As for the bad things.....the biggest for me is the audio it is pretty quite (I miss voodoo sound do bad). Then there is the screen while it is pretty close to the fassy it is not the same.
The last bad news I can tell you is if your phones come updated to Gb then the only way for you to root st this point is to buy a clip. But if you got your phone with froyo the you can use alpharevx's root method.
Hope this helps!

my sister has been trying to get out of her fascinate as well (my wife and i came here by way of the fascinate) and last night i called verizon on her behalf. got them to swap her out too since they'd already swapped her phone for a replacement fascinate, and the tech let slip that there is a known software issue with them, meaning pretty much anyone who asks and says the right thing is gonna get out of that crapfest phone.

Re-Invigorate (From Inc2 to X2)

I just wanted to bring up this discussion again and get some people's thought on changing from inc2 to X2. Especially since the root on 2.3.3 is taking a long time.
My brother has the X2, and given that it has root, unlike my inc2 with 2.3.3, I've been highly tempted to switch; Then, I noticed something that really makes me want to make the switch:
His reception is continuously a few bars higher than mine- given the better reception, available root (I just rooted his phone for him this morning), dual core, and better resolution- I am highly tempted... What are your thoughts? I know it has less ram, but he's never had any problems with it...
I also like the dedicated buttons for home and such- you can actually hold the phone slightly differently than the Inc2 because of this, and its kinda nice.. Although, I do like the ease of the HTC touch buttons...
I'm not trying to hate- I've been an loyal HTC user since the XV-6800.
So how about it community of awesomeness- Would you make the change if given the opportunity to do it for free?
motorola products are well built...but u will be the running the stock kernel until the end of time, regardless of 2nd init

I just rooted an X2 and upgraded it to a zipaligned deodexed and debloated 2.3.3.
The thing wasn't even close to my inc2 in speed, not even in the same zipcode.
Unless you need root desperately, i'd wait. The specs on the motorola may look strong, but you stick the 2 phones together and rooted inc2 with a good rom is going to smoke that thing to pieces any day.
I've hated every Moto I've had the misfortune of owning. That includes the X. Since you're asking for opinion I'd say hell no. No Moto is as good as the Inc2 right now. The dual core will be crap compared to the 1.5 dual snapdragon anyway
I switched from the X2 to the INC2. That stock X2 had more bugs than than the amazon rainforest! I couldn't even play an MP3 without it skipping when trying to run another app. IMHO, there is nowhere near enough RAM on the X2, especially for a dual core. With light use, the available RAM was well below 100MB. On many occasions, the available RAM was below 50Mbs. I would advise anyone to run, not walk, from the X2 as quick as possible. The users with bad experiences far out number those with good. And those with good experiences, I think have just become complacent with a sub-par device. That's my 2 cents. Having used both phones, I can honestly say the INC2 will run circles around the X2. All the tweaks in the world won't give the X2 more RAM.
These posts have been very insightful. I suppose I will wait for the root on the Inc2- At least we can do WiFi sharing, that's one of the major things I wanted to get out of a root anyhow. I just wish we could get rid of all that VZW crap
Thanks again community- ya never fail
A deblurred, deodexed, debloated, zipalinged Droid X2 wouldn't be bad. But IMO we shouldn't have to do all of that to make a phone function like the DInc2.

I work for Big Red and from my sales experience I would not take a X2 if it was a gift. From the X to the X2 has been a constant headache. The Dinc2 is like a zippy exotic sports car and the MOTO X is like a Chevy Camaro with a supercharged engine but only has a 5 gallon gas tank.
I believe it was Phonescoop that did a great write up on the Dinc2. In short they said: The HTC Droid Incredible 2 is a fluid machine with updates to 2.3.3 but like its older brother the Droid Incredible it will be in the shadows of the other phones launching. The 4g line and X2 will hog up air time and billboard space. While the Dinc2 will only be seen as the red headed step child.
Ok that is my take on what they said but it is true.

One of my inlaws has an X2, and it does indeed get a considerably stronger signal than the Inc2, but personally, I can't stand everything else about it - the size, the crazy shape, the locked boot loader, the physical buttons and the widly reported bugs.
Yeah- it is rather square- actually, I'm pretty sure I would really regret going from an uber sexy phone to the X2. The decision has been made, I'm getting asurion to send me another Inc2.
Today my sister had a problem with her Inc2, it randomly went into global mode and she had to do a hard reset to get it back on the CDMA network- anyone else have this problem? I've had my inc2 do it to me a couple times which is why I am having asurion send me another new device...

Glad you decided to stay! Because rooting just became possible! See what patience can do?
After alot of problems with a d2g I got vz to replace it with a dinc2(not here yet). So I've done alot of research today and saw a crapload of videos reviews mostly and I have to say that the software on the dinc2 will be better then motos. Haven't used it but I Already know that based on what i've seen. I started out my droid journey with an eris and let's be honest that phone stunk. So with that had a bad taste in my mouth with htc and sense. I got a dx and never considered an htc device again until I actually took a look at the inc2. I'm happy with my d3 don't get me wrong but I may have went with it. Prior to actually checking the phones out they seemed kinda feminine with their rainbow wallpapers but after seeing its capabilities I may give my old lady the d3 and keep the inc2

Root now available? Absolutely amazing! Those guys over at revolutionary are truly amazing. I'm glad I didn't buy an xtc clip today like I was planning on doing.
I had the inc1 and gore insurance to upgrade me to the inc2 for free- I am very pleased. It is quite a bit more zippy than the inc1 and when I talked to the guy at asurion, he said the inc2 was the phone that worked the best; that is, he almost never got a call about problema on the inc2.
I can't wait to see what this phone can do now that the bulk of inc2 users can finally root! The developers on this site are truly amazing.
