When I first bought my universal I was terrified by the T-mobile-look, so I decided to buy me some tools to disassemble it and to change the colour. Has anyone experienece with this issue? I have the qtek-manual but I am not quiet sure if this plan really works. I want to revarnish my mda pro in more proper colours but I am afraid that the varnishment could disturb the connectivity.
Feel free to give me some comments or simply a url where I can buy a qtek-housing, I am not willing to keep this terrible t-mobile housing;-(
thx!
I would buy some more housing from ebay and modify that, and keep your original casing as a fall-back.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130070502699 is one example, you could take this and respray it and add a nice finish to it. There are others listed, including a jet black one (which I personally think is sexy) but it costs nearly double.
Hope this helps.

Urr problem with buying a housing is the hinge doesn't come with it ... silver hinge black everything else ... ew!
I am pretty picky when it comes to car mounts. I typically hate universal mounts because they are so bulky. So as i wait for for a sweet made-for-evo sexy solution, this is the next best thing that i have found. This thing folds up on itself when not in use. This video describes it way better than i can.
thanks to a nice member of the slickdeals forum, the coupon code WOOT brings the total to $5 per set (up to 3) plus $5 flat rate for shipping. Each set comes with one mounting arm and 2 buttons (for 2 devices i guess)
I have no clue how long the coupon lasts for but i snagged two, one for me and one for the wifes car so we can swap back and forth. The few reviews seem good and i figure its not that great of a risk for 15 bucks. I am going to stick on the little buttons to a case, not directly to the evo. If anyone is interested, i can post pics and stuff when it comes in.
Edit: I don't have enough posts to post links...
hmm, now i cant edit either. i am not trying to spam, just trying to share.
if you go to google and search "soundgate m2 wired for less" you will find the links to discussions of the deal on multiple sites. maybe a kind soul could post a link here too?
pretty slick...I do not like how ever that a "disc" is required that attaches it to the actual device. I wouldnt be putting it on my phone. So I would have to pick up another snap case and mod it...
But not a bad price and not a bad looking product.
It is interesting...I need something...and you can't beat $10
https://www.wiredforless.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SOUNDM2
exactly what i was thinking! i kinda wish i bought an extra one so i could have a little nerd dock at my desk.
I have these...and I use them for my iPad...yep! It works with the iPad. I am VERY happy with these. They came pretty fast too across the country. I recommend these very much. To be honest, I am NOT a fan of putting a disc on the back...but I have a skin on my iPad so if the skin comes off so does the disc so that made me feel better about it leaving marks...weird..I know...and it comes with extra discs.... the owner is a nice guy too. Very helpful.
Just my opinion...
pretty cool you can just put that disk on another case and slip your phone into that one when your in the car if you dont want to put it on the actual phone...
hey ken987,
How thick would you say those little disk thingies are? I already ordered it but i am a little curious if these things will be low profile enough to still slide in my pocket. I am planning on sticking it to the back of an innocase ii
Wow for 10 bucks this is a great find. Thanks
Cool find and great coupon code, thank you! I already have a mount for my phone, but I will use this for my girlfriend's car. I went ahead and ordered three.... just need to figure out what to do with the other two, maybe buy a tablet?
I would say as thick as a quarter......I don't think it would be a bother. I have 2 on the back of my ipad so I can do landscape or portrait and I barely notice them when I hold the iPad in the house.

Still works, I just tested it.
also if you put 1 button on the back of a phone case, can you choose if you want it in portrait or landscape after the install? In other words i am wondering if it only seats properly 1 way and you have to stick it on right or if you can swivel your phone back and forth. perhaps portrait for music time and landscape for gps?
I bought one and the spare disk kit. I was looking for a kit and this is not bulky will be out of the way but accessible. I thought about the extra re-installation kit. I will go to home depot for that if I ever need it but that disc for the device...you never know.
The video shows that you can rotate the base 90 degrees to put your device in landscape / portrait w/o having to use a different disc.
This is a great find. $40 off with the coupon code??? I ordered two as well. Thanks for sharing OP. I'll share my experiences with it when it comes in.
Thanks just ordered one too... Great!
Got this installed last night, works quite well. For those planning on using it mostly in landscape orientation I recommend putting the disc in the middle of the EVO, not higher up as they recommend. I put the disc right over the HTC logo and it tends to hang a bit crooked in landscape because it is out of balance.
This is a pretty decent car mount option though, the disc on the back is only mildly annoying. It's pretty easy to mount and unmount, although I still wish there was a custom mount option.
Thanks to the OP for the post and the coupon!
There is an issue with the Evo as it has a textured finish to the case. The disc has a tendency to fall off when turning to lock it.
Love the mount, this is top quality stuff and very small form factor. The disk is not noticeable on the phone (yet protects the camera)
Thanks for sharing it with us, for only $5 I figured I would get two and check 'em out. I don't want to put anything on my phone though, so I think I'll find a cheap case and use it that way. You really can't beat the price though!
I got a bunch of "goodies" for my epic touch.
first up is my beloved tough case. I really love this case. pics and video

give it a few minutes to finish uploading and processing.
Hint. I took apart the infuse vehicle dock. very easy no damage to unit and EASY to extract a VERY tiny circuit board. (amazing they charged $50 for that little board since we know the dock itself is worth about $5
that board opens up insane possibilities. Think converting SPEAKER DOCKS to be full SII compatible. Think "custom" vehicle and desk docks "IN" your favorite case !!
Oh Yeah
in my example at least the dock connector REACHES and LINKS to the phone through the case (its "JUST" long enough) other cases you will have to try it though mine is about as "thick" as they come so it should fit with most.
I think I will finally have a reason to order some sugru.

Which car dock app is that in the video? It looks pretty sweet.
Ulysses Speedometer (VERY nice) Lite and Paid
also Gizmo's by same company (free) is also very nice.
BTW how do I "CHANGE" what it auto loads? I want it to auto load doggcatcher or something else I must have accidentally picked this when messing with the dock at the beginning.
Thanks for all the suggestions but I'd include the link where you bought it aswell.
That case you have is hideous and all I'm looking for is something as effective as my Otterbox Commuter Series for my GSI, which included a very good screen protector unlike the Invisishield which is nowhere near invisible. I seriously can't find a case I like I wish Otterbox would just make a case for the Sprint variant of the GSII...
I did just buy a USB jig from Hong Kong for less than $3.00 and free shipping. I'm guessing I'll see it in about a week or two.
I just recently had my phone sitting in my lap while driving then went to get out and forgot the phone was in my lap and it dinged all 4 corners of the phone. Since I have insurance I'll be getting it replaced. So I'll have to re-root my phone and all that after I get a case I like. My question to you is how do I get that awesome boot up screen you have which looks like a real pc and the sweet animated android logo matrix style(ish). I'm feeling a bit jealous here man.
On Custom roms such as calukin's you just replace the bootanimation.zip (I will find the link and post it here)
I am trying my hand at altering it so the information is applicable to the SII I hope to have it online later tonight as well if it works
I LOVE my case. I have giant hands and the one complaint I had with the SII was a very strange one. its too skinny. with this case it fits in my hand like a glove. I REALLY like it.
the only thing that irks the crap out of me is this same vendor makes the same style case for the Samsung Prevail in INSANE ORANGE and I want that orange color for the SII
I hear with minimal mods the OTTERBOX case for the other SII does fit the epic touch. not perfect but it works (there is another thread for that if I remember I will link it when I come back with the other links)
Ok Here is the modified animation I made from the other bios animation (attached)
I changed all the information to match the SII left the matrix droid intact. REMOVE the (SII) when copying it to your system/media if your rom supports that.
you might have to name it sanim.zip. on calukin's rom its just bootanimation.zip to system/media
I did not make the original. I have no idea who did. found it on google somewhere.
this guy made a similar one (also updated for the SII)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193456
I am attaching the original one I found (called (Original) make sure you remove that when copying)
The sound is just windows XP startup. (I always get a few head turns when people hear that though with this epic touch I almost never have to reboot (windows mobile 6.1 you reboot daily
OK would not let me add attachments to the original post so here is a reply with the original ie the boot ani you see in my video. the one in my first post is the same one redone to reflect all SII information.
First, I tried "SPH-D710_Zedomax_Kernel" ran into problems and the author wasn't responding then another author lended me a hand with a script he wrote called "e4gtauto" which works great. Even references Starcraft II while its doing it job which is awesome. It did remove the yellow triangle when I flashed a stock kernel of course and I was just trying to achieve root and remove carrieriq which I only managed to disable which is just as good for the most part.
I saw that thread where someone had an Otterbox for a different phone and things didn't quite match up and then the function buttons at the bottom were harder to hit or something. The case you love covers up your function buttons now that I think about it. It is an option, but I don't think I can bare having the 3.5mm audio jack or the camera flash not fully functional. Defeats the purpose of a *good* case in my opinion.
Thanks I'll go ahead and download them to keep them handy. I'll have to read up on caulkins don't want to run into another zedomax issue.
Looking through them now "Copyright - Screw Copyright" haha
How the hell did you create this? I'm noticing all the images so that tells me the memory read outs won't reflect what is really in there its really just a joke right?
Still awesome!
no it has 1gig of ram it has 1.6gig internal it has 16gig internal SD and I have a 32gig external sd
so for "my" system at least the numbers are real. but they are just PICTURES its not actually reading anything.
the memory test goes to 1gig (real) in the original it did this in 5 "steps" so I divided a gig by 5 and used that as my increment.
its just a ton of PNG files. if you UNZIP it you will have two folders and in each folder is bunch of PNG's
as long as you keep the number the same (not sure what happens if you change the number of files so I have not tried) and resave as PNG you can edit and play to your hearts content.
just repack as a ZIP NO compression (IE select "store" as compression option)
very easy. just tedious. took me over 3 hours to make this one and I did not even "make" it so much as modify an existing one.
I left the android anim as it was. for the otherpart I kept the blue and green logo everything else I remade. (was easier than editing)
I just used TERMANIL font size 8 and modified spacing slightly (using photoshop)
I worked backwards. I filled out the whole screen and then erased and saves each step as I played the original files in reverse order to make mine like the original.
got my new sound file. I ripped the old school hard disk spin up from that other video and added my windows start sound.
had to cut bits here and their as 10 seconds is about the max sound file (anything longer gets cut off) but got it love it

Ok, I seen that but in the last post you said you added a few things. So I thought that would be a different download.
Oh sorry no I mean I added vids of some more goodies I got. The boot anim is unchanged.
I plan to work on another one (I want to add an "avatar" flair to it) we shall see if I get up the will power to do it as it is a ton of work.
DEEP respect to the originator of this and others who make these things its not "hard" work but its long tedious mind numbing work. a Crap Ton of work

Just about everything I got I ordered off EBAY.
Just a very quick review of my Easecase E5 which arrived about a week ago.
You can see pictures of it by search eBay for "Easecase E5 galaxy note" (without quotes), there's one here : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/E5-EASECA..._MobilePhonesCasesPouches&hash=item5ae4059699
(I did get a bit of a shock when I saw that - that is my actual one - with my name on it, I was just searching for one at random)
Delivery time:
As mentioned in other parts of this forum, delivery times for Easecase are pretty woeful. I ordered on the 25th of November and, it arrived here a few days over a month later in Sweden. The problem seems to be largely that they ship via China Post which is quit slow - they dispatched it (with trackable* shipping) within about a week. I bought it through eBay, so I am not sure if they have another outlet, and, they make it very clear on their eBay items that they will take a looong time to ship, so, I can't take any points off them there.
Build quality:
It is beautifully put together. There's a slot running down the inner spine for the stylus, and my name is embossed on the front. I would characterise it as high quality.
Outside:
I opted for the magnetic clasp. It isn't a very strong magnet, but does the job.
Apart from the clasp, there's just the embossing on the outside, and, a neat seam around the edge.
Inside:
There are 2 bill pockets inside, both of which are *very* deep. They're about as deep as the note is high.
When it is fully opened, there are 5 credit card pockets on the left. Note that these seem to be individual pockets, separated from each other internally. Cards fit vertically into these pockets. The front of the pockets stretches a bit over 2 thirds of the way from the far left of the case to the spine. Behind the pockets is a sleeve about 1/3 wider than the short side of a credit card where you could fold bank notes* (remember this, I'll come back to it.
As I said, along the inner spine is slot for the stylus.
On the right is where the not goes. It slots in (quite snugly) from the top. The top is open, so you can get to the headphone port. There's a hole in the left for the volume control, a hole in the right for the power button, and, a hole in the bottom for access to the USB port.
Looking at the front, the home and hardware buttons are all accessible as part of the screen area. They've also neatly cut out around the top speaker and, the front camera.
Protection:
Very good. If the magnetic clasp doesn't come undone during a fall, then, it'd be very hard to break the screen. It is nice thick leather, and you might even be able to drop a brick on it when closed without breaking the screen.
It still won't help you if you drop it in the toilet as some poor chap here has apparently done.
Usage:
It is very bulky. Like one of those filofax jobs people used to (still?) have.
I'm used to big gadgets, so I cope, but you wouldn't get it into tight jeans pockets. I do squeeze it, with some discomfort into my front trousers pocket.
You don't want to talk on the phone with the cover on for more than brief calls, you look like an idiot. Most of the time I pull it out of the cover for calls, or, use a bluetooth headset.
Using the rear camera requires removing from the cover.
General browsing/emailing etc is fine with the cover on.
Fortunately removing the phone is a fairly quick procedure, as is putting it back it. I imagine it'll get easier still as the leather stretches a touch.
One annoyance is, as the leather reaches right to the top of the touch screen, if the phone slips up slightly, it can be difficult or impossible to pull down the notifications bar. When in landscape, this isn't an issue as the phone can't move left/right in the case.
Summary/thoughts:
I wish I'd bought the one without the bank note pockets. That'd reduce the bulk considerably and you could still stick notes behind your cards (see * above). You can also use the rear facing camera with the non-bank note version (E4).
On balance, I am pleased I bought it though, it is of high quality and, it is great having your phone and wallet all in the one thing - it also means you can ring your wallet to find it when you are in a hurry to head to work
If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
My recommendation for anyone thinking of getting one of these is to get the E4 and not this.
They don't seem to have any E4's on eBay at the moment for the note, but I am sure I have seen one there. Here's one for the Desire HD - I am sure it gets the point across.

Two quick thoughts:
1) When calling, can't you fold the case cover back 180 degrees?
2) Some launchers (adwlauncher does this) allow to swipe down anywhere to lower the notification bar, so you don't need to touch the very top.

No, the banknotes pockets kind of open so it gets more bulky and wants to spring back to about 180 degrees (where 0 is closed, 180 is wide open and 360 is the position you suggest), but I suspect you could with the E4 model.

Yes - I read about that setting a while back, but have never used it, thanks for reminding me - it is now enabled for the swipe down gesture (hide dock was annoying me anyway).
Hi, thanks for the review, i've been stuck deciding between the E5 and the E4, due to the E5 having the bill slot, which i would think is really good compared to folding the bills under the cards.
Can you take a picture of the case when it's fully loaded, both open and closed?
e.g. all card slots used, and the bills folded and slotted under the cards
That would probably help sway my decision, if that slot + cards do not bulk up the entire wallet.
More info // pics in my thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419678
I love those case, but it's sucks when they cost so much!
It's should be 10$ max.
peanuts and monkeys
i hope to order this case by the end of this month, i've emailed them some questions on customisation, hopefully it's permitted, then can go forward with this.
the E5 with wallet style slot is definitely too bulky. I bought one for my Desire HD with modified size to fit the DHD with Otterbox. After receiving it, tested once with DHD and sit in my drawer collecting dust ever since.

Ya know I thought the same thing at first, but I just got a pack of 3 extra batteries and I find I can put two of em in the wallet and also a cleaning cloth and everything fits great.
In terms of customizations I wonder if a small bit for some change could be added.
Its beautiful.
Easecase E5 looks good.
This is a genuine leather case, and very good quality construction. They also responded well to my customization request (I wanted a 65mm horizontal belt loop added to mine).
Only $10 max is out of the question. Worth 3 to 4 times that much. It includes branding of your own name as well. It's a very classy leather case/wallet.
Could you please share a photo were the Note is next to the case just to compare the size of the case?
Hey great review. I really love the customization of these cases and I recently bought a galaxy note us version from ATT so ive been doing some research for a quality wallet type case for my note (will arrive monday) I was just wondering, would this case or the E4 case which is what ill probably get be fine for the american ATT version. Im pretty sure the dimensions are about the same but im not so sure about the button placements or the charger placements.
The only thing I dont like is the shipping time but not much I can do about it but this case seems to be the best so far that ive found besides the vintage leather case but those dont come in black and have magnetic strips.
Any reply would be appreciated.
So just to recap - will my US ATT galaxy Note i717 be a good match with this case?

When I dealt with them, I found them quite responsive, I suggest asking them if it'll fit the i717 - odds on if it doesn't they'll have one that does even if they haven't advertised it yet.
Although I haven't seen it, I'd definitely recommend the E4 over the E5 - I find I don't really need the slots for notes (you can slip folded notes in the bit behind where credit cards go anyway) and, it the banknote pockets block the camera (by necessity) which drives me a bit mad.
I was wondering if anyone has an idea of where I could go about purchasing a transparent front and back replacement cover for my S3?
never heard of such thing..
Nor have I.
If you don't find it on eBay, amazon or Alibaba.com, it probably doesn't exist.
Any websites you know that are willing to do that?
You mean willing to custom make one?
I was looking for it a while back and found nada. I like the one they have for the iPhone but will never buy that phone

Yeah, I wish they had one for the S3, I'd be willing to disassemble it have a transparent phone.
It can be done.
It would cost about as much as the retail cost of the phone, but it could be done.
All that needs to be done is:
1. Disassemble the phone. (including separating the screen/lcd/digitizer from the face plate)
2. Make a mold from the case parts.
3. Inject clear acrylic into the mold.
4. Insert into a vacuum chamber to eliminate bubbles.
5. Pull parts from mold when set.
6. Trim and finish the parts.
7. Reassemble
Can use a computer scanning and 3D printing process as well.
Wouldn't want to trust a website, but I'm certain that you can find a company within reasonable distance. You'd have to do the disassembly /reassembly yourself, though, as they most likely wouldn't want to risk damage.
You'd have to want/need it really badly ...
The better question is, have you ever seen a display model with a clear case? Some companies have them made up for trade shows. Maybe Samsung would have some and be willing to part with one since the S3 is superseded.
