[Q] Anyone know how to create a private file? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do you create a private folder on your phone for things such as for photos and numbers and serial keys you dont want everyone seeing?

For my private photos i use folders with dot in front of the name (etc folder photos is .photos). That way folder is hiden and visable just thru some apps (bluetooth file transfer or root explorer)

So it wont show up under your gallery section? Just wondering cause it gets annoying when you try to show somone a photo you took a family pic and there is some photos that you dont want your grandmother to seee lol.

No it wont. All folders with dot and files inside them are hiden. May be required to restart your phone after creation of folder but that it. This also may depend on wich rom are you using. Test it.

Currently running urban regeneration and quick pic. Us it possible to eery remove gallery completely? If so, is that accomplished by using a file explorer?

I guess this question is sort of related to this so I'll ask it here. In Gallery is there any way that anyone knows of to NOT display every single folder that has an image in it? It's a little annoying going to the gallery and having folders for music album folders, certain apps, themes etc. I just want to see what in my DCIM folder and sub folders

In the folder you wish to hide, create a .nomedia file in it. That will hide the folder from appearing in gallery.
So I have root explorer, but where do I go to to delete Gallery?

I do that and it tells me,
"Gallery3D.apk cannot be deleted because the files system is read only."
I am running Random Rom Osprey, with EG22.

Thanks I will give it a try.
It depends on what app you use or if you're using a built in feature in a rom. For example ShootMe puts them in the ShootMe folder on your SD card.
Volume down + menu on MIUI puts them in MIUI/screen_cap.
Don't know about other methods/apps.

I used to use an app that put them in the data folder. Check the settings for whatever app you are using. It should tell you, and sometimes give you an option to change, the destination folder.

How to stop gallery from showing EVERY picture it finds.

Tiresome sifting through pages upon pages of pictures from apps and such to find my personal media. Thanks

Should be able to move the pics to a new folder titled ".nomedia"
Shouldn't scan that folder.
actually, I think all you need to do is create a file called .nomedia and place it into the folders you don't want the media scanner to scan.
Works great to keep the gallery from adding all of the images that Touchdown (my corporate email program) caches on the phone.
Is there a method to include folders rather than exclude -because I have way too many files from wherever that I would have to exclude with that method. Thanks

Bump. What does "bump" mean? Does it mean 'no one is looking at my thread, hey you, will you look at my thread? Either way, hey you... kidding, but please, does anyone know of a way to choose folders for the gallery rather than choose to exclude which as I mentioned would be way to cumbersome? Thanks

Put your pics you want private in a desperate folder. Rename the folder to anything with a period in the beginning and voila!

Hiding private media isn't the issue.

If you don't mind a 3rd party solution, get QuickPic. I seriously haven't used my stock gallery in over a year. It has the option to exclude certain folders ( and thus scan the rest of the SD card ), or include folders instead ( only scans the folders you choose ).
Russian smashed across the interwebz from my Galaxy SII.

You could also make a text file and rename it to .nomedia no name with that file extension and it will not show up, which is what quickpic does for you.

thanks. that's the solution.
edit: actually no, gallery still finds private media and now the folder just renamed with a dot in front has now disappeared.
edit: actually, there is a setting in astro to display such files, BUT then now the gallery app will display contents of private but visible folder so...

Well your files are located in SD Card>SystemAndroid>Data>MTUwOTQ0Mg== (Or some randomly named folder like that). But unfortunately they have a .bin extension and seem to be really encrypted. Just changing the .bin to .jpg doesn't work. Previous picture hiding software used to just bluff the system into not scanning the pictures by renaming their extensions, but this one seems to be actually encrypting them. Maybe you can contact the developer support of the app and ask them if there's a way to get them back.

help to recover password for a application installed

a friend of mine installed keep safe in mobile and secured some photos with it...but now he forgot the passsword and is not able to get back those photos...is there any method to recover them..pls help
How much is your friends ransom/blackmail?
Sent from my GT-N7100
its not ransom or blackmail....its a serious issue he has some family photos which he use to keep safe because his mobile was used by many peoples.
It probably just hides them somewhere in the internal memory, download es file explorer, enable show hidden files/folders in the settings, then look through the folders beginning with a "."
I'll download and try keep safe (if it's free) soon to test this myself.
Edit: confirmed, they're in ".keepsafe" the and they have ".hid2" added as a file extension. Just move them out of there and delete the ".hid2" from the name and it should be fine.

Highly recommend your friend use Dropbox or equivalent for this. This is one of the few things cloud excels in. Automatic upload of pictures.
