Hey all, I don't know if anyone has even noticed on their Evo's but on mine, the Android system usually eats most of the battery. I noticed there is a ton of processes under Android system that are running compared to like five on my Hero. I've never seen the core system processes take up more than maybe 15% of the battery, but right now, I'm at like 41% with 16m 6s of CPU total and 47s of CPU foreground. If anyone knows why this is or a way to fix it, please let me know. I'm on the first MR update. I've been able to get a lot of battery stuff figured out, if I can get the system to calm down, then I should be able to get even better battery life than my Hero.
I'm seeing the same thing, android system is at 96% battery use after letting the phone sit overnight. Never saw that on my nexus, this is strange.
Could be related to the fact that everything is syncing up, I just activated last night too.

Yeah, the system seems to have calmed down a bit today, though I also have the OC widget running to keep the processor lower during sleep. I'm guessing its helping, but I'm not sure if there is something else to get it down. I almost never even saw the System show up in usage on my Hero, now its one of the top contributers. I got used to having custom roms on the Hero, but so far all I need on the Evo is unrevoked. I know a lot of people around here don't like it, but I found I only needed a couple of apps that require root and so far love it. That OC widget really comes in handy.
maybe i can clear things up a little bit for you guys...what you see in the battery use section is distributed across 100% of the time since you last had it plugged in. if you notice all the percentage numbers add up to 100%.
if you plug your phone in and turn it on and off on you will see that android system is probably around the 90's thats because android system has used 90+ percent of the phone since you plugged it in....over time that number will lower, becuase other things will start using the battery power... what you see is a percentage based on time. not based on whats actually working RIGHT THEN AND THERE do you guys understand?

I mostly text message all day long due to work - make phone calls and recieve calls from work every hour. GPS on for no more than 15min all day long to get direction when my keymap book doesnt help.
4g off, bluetooth off, background data 15 min only (gps) than off, gps off when not in use, mobile network (3g) off when not in use.
I would have figured my screen being on would have drained my battery life since I check text message every 10-15mins for 8hrs...
So went to work at 9am, 100% life
got off work 6pm, 25% life

check your hardware version there is a thread about different types of evos and it seems like everyone who has the hardware revision 0001 has really bad battery life. i would exchange your device.
Yes we know, Freelancerx, or at least I do. But after over 8 hours and the system is still using more of the battery than anything else is a little disturbing. Never seen that on any other device. I have Hardware 0002.
I have this same issue with hardware version 0002. I run Fresh 1.0.1, i use Netarchy-toastmod kernal, have latest radio. I have also tried Damage Control (did get slightly better battery life out of DC but not amazingly different)
after 7 hrs since unplugged my andriod system is at 39%, cell standby 28% phone idle 20% display 9%.
i dont have bluetooth, wifi or 4g on. I use juicedefender+ultimate to turn off apn when screen is not on. I use set CPU to underclock when i am unplugged and go down to 128 when screen off and i am Stilll lucky if i make it all day with moderate usage.
Every day it is the same andrioid system is around 40% of the usage for the time it was unpluged.

Wonder if there is something to the android system on these (ie something not turning off that should) or if we are all just crazy and happen to get the same results.
I had a hardware 0002 model and often experienced the same thing with high system % usage.
My phone was replaced, due to a screen issue, and now I have the 0003 model and seems system % is much lower so far.
I haven't installed any system update yet, so I am on the first original release rom (not rooted yet).
Going to be testing it for a few days before I update and root, so I can make a fair comparison between the original and current oem's.

I think everyone here understands this. the question i think we are trying to figure out is why with similar usage and configurations some people get 40-60% android systems usage while others get 10% over the same period of time.

Yes but if it is configured in an optimal way then android system is always beneath cell standby and phone idle.
For example, today after 15h 28m 23s since unplugged I have...
Cell stanby 38%
Phone idle 37%
Android System.....12%
That is with background processing with auto syncing every hour or so.
I have a question regarding my battery life. Yesterday night at 10:00 pm i played +/- 40 minutes on games like Angry Birds and used my 3G connection for about 10 minutes. My battery dropped from 100% to 61%. When i didnt use my phone (just idle mode) @ 11:46 pm i wanted to check how much battery i had left today in the morning (10:00 am) ..... it whas completely dead 0% .... i have this phone since august but if i knew the battery life whas so crap i would have picked another device.
Is there a way to improve it ??? since i read in diffrent topics people can use their desire for 2 days without a recharge.

So comparing battery life is impossible.
You can get a battery life of a mobile phone/week if you use it like a mobile phone: No GPS, no data, no playing games, no surfing, just occasional talking. So the battery life is normal and good, compared to mobile phones.
But normally you use it like a smartphone, thus you use it daily, play some games, ... which results in a battery life of a few hours (navigation) up to two or three days (moderate use), with an average battery life of a day (heavy use).
However, one thing for sure: Something is wrong with your phone.
This dosen't mean something is broken, rather you use an app/setting, which causes the battery drain, so you did something wrong, you're the failure, not the device!
Playing a game drains the battery fast. The display is on, probably max. brightness and the CPU and GPU is working like hell. It also gets warm, so you can feel the increased power consumption.
In sleep mode however, it should consume much less than it did for you. Maybe 2% each hour.
So to find what app you've installed or what app you keep in the background running, install a program like Android System Info and take a look at the task list, CPU load should be around 10% if you wait a few seconds and do nothing.
Take a look at the running services (android settings, applications, ...) and check if you really need all of them or if an app is active which you don't use. Then don't force close it, only idiots do this, rather open the app and deactivate the service (like automatic updating)
Next option: Test the battery life again. Maybe an app crashed and caused the increased power draw and now everything is working fine again and battery life is normal again. Then it's impossible to find a culprit with Android System Info.
Also tell us what settings you've activated: GPS/Wifi/Data/BT/...
This is happening because, some process not letting your device to sleep..!!
All you need to do is type *#*#4636#*#*
and check the battery history ,you'll get to know which process is using your battery, and remove that application.

Brightness is already said to medium, i also turned of those life wallpapers and it still drains like ****. When i look at the battery status it says battery life is good. Maybe a application that is running i dont know, ill try to find it out. So far i have a few apps installed which i rarely use.

Thanks will check it out and see what it does now in idle mode.
Idle mode 01:28 pm starts now, will post results in a few hours.
Edit: It's 02:00 pm here and i already lost 4% battery, its 96% now , i did *#*#4636#*#* and checked battery status and it seems wifi is in full use 99.7%. I will turn this off but what about the 3G connection
Edit2: It's 2:24 pm here and the battery status is 92% now, i reveived +/- 4 emails in that time. I checked the status in battery indicator pro and this is what it says

nothing else......i am really lost now.
Is my battery damaged/broken ? .... how can i reset/callibrate the battery ? or should i contact the shop where i got this phone from for a new battery ?
don't worry, lots of people are having bad battery lifes, and angry bird drain your battery really quickly, so it is quite normal, especially on AMOLED desires.

Yeah i have AMOLED
PS: After 30 minutes without touching it the battery is still 92%.
you could install setcpu and set profiles to save battry life
Might try that.....but after 1 hour the battery is still 92%.....i guess wifi drained my stuff down all the way as i am pretty sure i turned that thing of last time.
i will do some more tests later....
Edit: After 1 and half hour the battery is still 92%, guess the stock rom isnt that bad .

Its not 5:09 pm here and the battery is now 91% (idle, not touched)....guess wifi what the bad thing on my phone.
Tested the battery last night and must say i am happy with the results
10:00 pm yesterday the battery whas 60%, today i looked back @ 11:24 am and the battery just dropped with 10% (3G is on), i didn't touch the phone since then.

I wrote HTC about the battery and they just sent me a brand new one So now I have 2 batteries and I think I'm happy DD
You can check your battery usage with a widget called "currentwidget" (search for it on this forum)
Usually on SBY with radio ON my phone drains from 3 to 4 Ma and 2ma in plane mode. (sounds good with a 1400mah battery)
In heavy usage, it can go anything from 150 to 500ma (ie: playing game with wifi ON)!!
For nice graphics, try to install "battery snap" too.
From HTC themself:
“To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly:
1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more
2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour

A known problem with the new update of the HTC Desire to Android 2.2 Froyo is battery life. How users have experienced the change is highly variable. Several said that battery life has improved, some even talk about a major improvement. The others have had problems that the phone charges from a fully charged battery several times in one day. If you have experienced such problems, there are measures, some simple, others more complicated and time consuming. Below I list things you can try, the lightest at the top.
# 1 Look what it's drawing power. Go to Settings> About phone> Battery> Battery usage or enter * # * # 4636 # * # * on the keypad and look around a bit. Is there anything that seems abnormal, or any program that seems to be the culprit, uninstall simply the application and see if that helps. While you can uninstall applications you believe is in the background and drag the cream from the phone's battery. Some applications may slip into the "Android System" in your battery history.
# 2 Uninstall system control and task killers. Advanced Task Killer and similar programs do more harm than they help. It is unfortunately only to realize this and stop using them. Android is an OS made for having many applications driving on the background. The operating system puts himself applications you do not use the idle to conserve battery power. Hey, about 2 weeks ago I noticed weird behavior from my battery.
When phone is locked battery drain is too fast.
It seems that the "android system" keep the phone awake for long periods,
And that the "android os" keep using the cpu.
I've been trying many thing - wifi, location, sync etc but nothing helped.
Used system panel to monitor my battery life,
Here are the results from the last 8 hours (100% at morning till now)
Attached photos - Overall battery usage, Screen on, Android System, Android OS, System Panel and More detailed system processes,
In the first 3 system processes there is high cpu usage even when screen is off..

I know the overall battery using seems to be good,
But it's only because I've been using the phone the whole day.
The problem is when I'm not using it - it drain very fast with no reason.
I don't remember any change I've done (didn't update the software, maybe an app),
And before that the battery life was great (and so they are now if I'm using the phone continuously without "putting it in my pocket".)
Any help?
I have a brand new lg g3 d855 successfully updated to lollipop. The reason is still unknown i was having the same problem. But then in a video at youtube i saw an app known as "qualcommn snapdragon guru" download it use its feature to stop apps and all that stuff and battery will be very improved.
Well if i look at your screenshot i could say it was normal, the one that draining your battery is your screen (based on your ss). But in other way you can download some apps to control your kernel (e.g kernel auditor) and swipe to "kernel samepage merging" tab, look if its on or off, if on just turn it off and see your battery life then, it happen to me sometimes.

I bought a G3 phone just a month ago and, apparently, the battery was lasting almost a whole day in the first two weeks, but, after that, the battery became to last less than half day. Of course I've installed some applications since then, but it's very strange because the Android doesn't report any abnormal processing load of any application, so I'm presuming the OS is causing the high battery consumption. After I bought the phone, I upgraded the OS to Lollipop almost forthwith. I'd like to know if it's a known issue of G3 with L version and there is something I can do to increase the battery life.
I've installed some applications that utilize the location services, but Android doesn't claim those applications are draining the battery. According to what Android reports, the screen and the OS are main things that are consuming more battery ( 24% for screen and 16% for OS )

You should root your LG G3, then install xposed, greenify amplify and powernap. Those apps will control your wakelocks and alarms. This will also improve your battery life.
May I also suggest to reduce screen DPI. Reduced mine from 640 to 534, added about 45-60 mins of SOT
Are you talking screen on time? Or idle battery drain. Because these are two very different things. Quite often it is the way you are using your phone and the applications installed that will cause your battery life to become worse.
Of course you have the obvious things such as disabling data when you aren't using it and wifi and so on. Through my experience I have found amplify to be of little use if you are generally cautious about the apps you install. Facebooks apps are terrible. Any instant messager will be causing some sort of drain. The problem definitely arrises from these things and while you can install many other apps to limit these things. I often find it is best to address the problem at the source. Perform a factory reset. Then begin installing your apps one by one and seeing when the hit comes. Thats my advice. Then find an alternative to the problematic app. That or BBS to find what is causing wakelocks. Remember, if you are gaming the processor is going to eat battery.
To follow up on orcam he is in the perfect rite direction as for reducing the dpi its a placebo effect you can read up on it on many threads and sot is in most case 7 to 12 min longer reduce britghness get rid of carrier iq is a big battery hog debloat the system apps like facebook and all the other bloat that lg uses is bad on battery life
The best way to get better battery:
1. Root
2. Debloat - delete useless app's and files from root directory!
3. 3845*#855# (855 its international model, put your model: 851, 852, etc) and search for Thermal Daemon Mitigation OFF, then click and enable it, and search Fast Dormancy and turn off, and in High Temperature Property OFF enable it too and turn off your phone for atleast 40 seconds, turn on and wait 1 minute with screen on to update those things.
4. Xposed with Greenify
5. TricksterMOD and set the CPU freq. to min. 300Mhz and max to 1.540MHz (if you use the phone normally, and dont play games).
6. in TricksterMOD set the GPU to 330Mhz for powersave.
7. Developer Options active the "Force GPU to 2D graphics"
8. Use brightness according with your needs, not only keep it in 100% (i know in 100% looks beautyful but screen is a battery beast).
This is what i have in mine and i can guarantee if you use moderate it can go up to 3 day's, mine got 5 hours and 20 minuts in On Screen Time so...

WiFi and Bluetooth are turned off. I don't have a SIM card installed yet, but even with a "Aeroplane mode" activated, I get the same consumption.
Is that consumption normal?
What irritates me is that in the beginning I saw horizontal lines in the "Battery usage" chart, indicating close to zero battery consumption when the phone was turned off. I don't get these horizontal segments anymore.
I installed GSam Battery Monitor and it shows 100% time spent in Deep sleep (but shows a "5% / 5%" for "Discharge Screen Off"). In the "OTHERS" chart, "Doze" is a continuous line but "Active" shows a lot of interrupted small blocks ("Screen" is obviously completely absent). "Wifi" is shown as always on, but I believe that is a bug because I turned off the location-based features that turn on Wifi automatically, turned on Aeroplane mode, etc. After a restart, the "Wifi" bar was correctly absent for a while but briefly turning Wifi on, got it back to "always on". I'm 99.9% sure this is a GSam bug.
I have double confirmed with "DevCheck" that the CPU goes to "Deep sleep" and spends pretty much all the time in that state.
I get about "5m" combined App Wakelocks in 48h.
The biggest battery consumer is "Kernel (Android OS) 7.5%", followed by "System (*wakelock*) 2.3%", "Google Play services 1.6%". These figures are from a 14 day period in which I used the phone for 3h to play a game (6.7% consumption) and otherwise only turned it on to check the battery. I currently don't have access to the percentage figures during pure sleeping since I plugged in the phone for charging.
Using GSam Battery Monitor, I don't see any app wasting battery life in the background. It's the kernel that consumes the vast majority of the battery life, if the phone is idle. The Android/Asus Battery usage stats show "Phone idle" with 54.7% for that 14 day period. The next one is the game with 3.8% (played for 3h) and then there is "Screen" with 1.9%.
I'd understand this kind of idle figure if the phone had a SIM card installed and bad reception but as I said before there is no card in the phone yet and the consumption is the same if I put it in Aeroplane mode.
I'm running Android 12, build 32.2810.2212.241.
The battery "system mode" is "Dynamic". The refresh rate is set to "60Hz" (not that it should matter with the screen turned off all the time). "Battery Saver" in the "Developer options" is turned "on".
I'd be grateful if someone could comment on the 5% battery life loss within 24h. I realize that many will not be able to compare this with their figures, as they'll have a cell phone service running, but perhaps those who turns on Aeroplane mode, should have comparable figures, for an 8h period, or so.
My Huawei Mate 20 (running Android 10) shows pretty much no consumption at all over night via the battery stats, when I turn on Aeroplane mode. Perhaps it loses 1% or at most 2%, I'll check again. Should the ROG Phone 6 behave the same, or is this difference to be expected?
Again, I'm irritated that I definitely saw multiple horizontal (no usage) periods in the battery usage chart in the beginning. I'm pretty sure these appeared before I had given the phone a full charge yet, so perhaps they weren't really indicative of close to zero consumption due to a lack of battery capacity calibration.

The Android/Asus Battery usage stats show "Phone idle" with 54.7% for that 14 day period. The next one is the game with 3.8% (played for 3h) and then there is "Screen" with 1.9%.
I'd understand this kind of idle figure if the phone had a SIM card installed and bad reception but as I said before there is no card in the phone yet and the consumption is the same if I put it in Aeroplane mode.
I'm running Android 12, build 32.2810.2212.241.
The battery "system mode" is "Dynamic". The refresh rate is set to "60Hz" (not that it should matter with the screen turned off all the time). "Battery Saver" in the "Developer options" is turned "on".
I'd be grateful if someone could comment on the 5% battery life loss within 24h. I realize that many will not be able to compare this with their figures, as they'll have a cell phone service running, but perhaps those who turns on Aeroplane mode, should have comparable figures, for an 8h period, or so.
My Huawei Mate 20 (running Android 10) shows pretty much no consumption at all over night via the battery stats, when I turn on Aeroplane mode. Perhaps it loses 1% or at most 2%, I'll check again. Should the ROG Phone 6 behave the same, or is this difference to be expected?
Again, I'm irritated that I definitely saw multiple horizontal (no usage) periods in the battery usage chart in the beginning. I'm pretty sure these appeared before I had given the phone a full charge yet, so perhaps they weren't really indicative of close to zero consumption due to a lack of battery capacity calibration.

I'm not so sure.
First, remember that this figure is without any cell phone service drawing current.
Second, I initially saw segments of the battery consumption graph that were horizontal, but no longer do.
Third, look at what Thanos88 reported.
I've seen other posts about unusually high idle consumption of the ROG Phone 6. I believe most users will not even notice because they don't shut down their phones fully and the idle consumption disappears as noise under the all the higher normal consumption. Perhaps other users don't complain, because they don't suffer from the issue I seem to be having. I don't know.

I note that you are not on the latest version (.241). That could explain the difference. Perhaps I saw the near to zero consumption before I accepted the update to .241? That is quite possible.
I've done a lot of app debloating as well, removing Facebook, etc., but as I mentioned before, there are no apps that cause any noteworthy battery consumption. Did you do anything out of the ordinary? I first just uninstalled and/or disabled some apps/services that I did not need and later even uninstalled some via ADB. The latter made no difference regarding battery consumption.

Would the latter be safe regarding warranty, etc.?
I don't want to root the phone or anything like that, I just would like to avoid unnecessary battery consumption.

Try to force stop and clear data & clear cache of Google play services , then reboot your device , charge to full and then see what happens

I would say Google play services is causing the issue. Also I forgot to mention, make sure you force stop, then click "uninstall updates" on Google play services, then clear cache , then Clear data then reboot your phone.
If that doesn't help, I highly recommend you dow load BBS (Better battery stats) , give it adb permissions, and monitor your battery life/wakelocks with that app

I followed the steps you described (including the "uninstall updates") and will report results, once the phone has fully charged and has idled for 24h. If there is no change, I'll uninstall GSam and install BBS.

Sadly, clearing the data&cache of Google Play services and downgrading it, did not help, at least it does not look like it helped right now.
This time, the battery lost 6% in 30h (went from 100% to 94%).
The last few hours showed very little battery consumption, though. Perhaps there was some book keeping to do after reboot which caused some consumption up until very recently.
I'll let the phone idle for another 24h and see whether the flat period continues. It would be awesome if it did.

I would have thought that if Google Play services were at fault, GSam Battery Monitor would have showed that. But perhaps not. I'll see whether BBS will provide any better clues. I could also try to disable Google Play services (just for diagnosing purposes), but I'm not sure that would result in any useful data, as many apps complain, if one disables Google Play services completely.
I suspect the difference between your idle consumption and mine is the firmware version. I've disabled/restricted so many apps/services, I doubt the phone would run normally now. So far, no culprit has been identified.

It's going to be the firmware then, or maybe even an app you've installed. I'm currently on 44% battery, with 9 hours 41 mins SOT, 1 days 2 hours off charge

I think I can exclude any user apps, since,
1. The issue is the same if I start the phone in "Safe mode" (disables all user apps).
2. GSam Battery Monitor would have reported high usage by an app.
The battery consumers are the OS and motion sensors.
I turned off "Lift phone to check" (or similar) and the phone indeed does not activate the lock screen when I move it while the screen is dark. The phone stills faintly shows the fingerprint area if I move it, so some motion detection must be going on. I don't think this behaviour can be disabled, or can it?

The fingerprint motion can be switched off in the settings however, it's probably the firmware that's causing the main issue imo

Not sure if it's just me or they've removed that option looks like it can't be removed but I surely that motion can't be the battery culprit. It has to be the firmware
