[XAP] LG MFG App & Q-Test - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

I wanted to find a LG MFG app, because my LG GW910 hasn't it (##634# doing nothing). I've downloaded optimus 7 rom and start working. I've succeed to dump rom (9 partitions), and wrote extract tool (see below).
This mfg also contains api, which allow to work with proximity sensor, magnitrometer (compass) etc. This app is already unlocked (unsigned), so just deploy it on your device.
Q-Test is just "Device Test" form the Factory Menu of the MFG (thanks fb401).
Extracted using this tool.
I almost done my build tool, i'll upload it soon.

Awesome work.
The Q-Test is pretty underwhelming as it's just "Device Test" from the Factory Menu of the MFG.
I hope we can document exactly what the capabilities of the MFG are. It seems as if my GW910 has HSDPA disabled and I can't figure out how to change that. Why do I think HSDPA is disabled?
Factory Menu -> 7.Engineering Menu -> 4.Modem Setting -> 1.Engineer Mode
Press Prev to see the HSDPA Module status.
STATUS: HSPDA_INACTIVE
How can I possibly change this.
Also, let us know what the registry dump looks like!

Hi i have lg gw910 also thanks for the tools ill see what i can find

Mb just there is no available HSDPA networks? I can't check it because my carrier (MTS) gives me only GPRS inside my house (outside UMTS works). Anyway category is 8, so speed will be 7.2 Mb/s, sweety!

Yesterday, i've released my extract tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=981513), so you can download any O7 & Q7 ROM and convert it to nb.

Hi I downloaded your zip files and tried to extract them but what's funny is I can see the .xap files in windows explorer and as well as winrar but once I extract them ... the destination folder is empty? I tried this on my windows 7 machine as well as an older win 2000 server machine ...
what utility did you use to zip the file? anychance that you can re-zip and post it again? Thanks!

Everything works well. Just use WinRAR, not Windows Explorer.

in windows it considers that extracted xap as a system file(of windows) and hides..so goto control panel>>folder options>>"view" tab>>select to show hidden files..ur mfg.xap will appear along with desktop.ini lol..

Very easy,
launch the executable from your pc without the ppc connected to the pc.
Activesync will be launched, it will try to connect to the device and will say that the application will be installed next time the ppc will connect.
Go into c:\program files\microsoft activesync\[application]
you will get your cab file
Then
go into registry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\AutoStartOnConnect
and remove the value : CEAppMgr
Cheers,

Since the executable is a PC application, I don't think you can except if you know exactly where the cab file begins and ends in the setup. I think the simpliest thing to do is what I mentioned.

CAB extract
you can also extract CAB files from EXEs using WinRar.
Just right click on the A.EXE file and you will see *extract* (if you don't see this option, then you can't extract the file - I had this problem with MS Voice Command 1.6)
Once the A.EXE has been extracted to your desired folder on the desktop PC, you can then find the CAB file and simply copy this to your PPC (without having to use anything like ActiveSync or installing any software on to your desktop PC). Run the CAB file on your PPC to install.
I hope the above helps!

or you can run the exe with the ppc connected ,make sure that you have a sd card in the device.the promp comes up asking were you want to install the app, do nothing,got start, file explorer and browse to; windows\appmgr [in the ppc] and your cab file will be there in a folder,simply copy to another location.then go back and cancel the installation
just a thought, the ppc application might be installed in its own folder in program files not necessarily the activesync folder so u'd find the cab file there..
I always extract files from a CAB file with WinCE CAB Manager to make the installation easier and make the application install to Whichever folder I want.But some files of the applications must be put into some folders,such as \Windows,\Appliction Data.And I will know what the installaion do to the registry.
I found it impossible to extract a CAB file from a windows .exe file on PPC,and extract files from a CAB file without installation on PPC is also impossible.

extract PPC CAB in Linux
It's not a 100% pure Linux solution, but this works for me. I have tested this on my Edgy Eft Ubuntu box. I don't know if it will be the same on Fedora, but it should be similar.
Get the latest Wine install from winehq.org. I got rid of my old .wine folder to make sure I was using a clean install, so you shouldn't have to do any additional installs or tweaks to wine.
Disclaimer: Don't expect this to work for actual syncing, only for getting the CAB files.
Get a copy of ActiveSync and install it under wine. I tried versions 3.0 and 4.2 and both worked. The version 4.2 installer failed at the end trying to update some USB drivers, but the files were all there and worked.
Again using wine, run your PPC installer program that you want the CAB from.
Like earlier posts in this thread pointed out, the CABS should end up in a subfolder of C:/Program Files/Microsoft ActiveSync. On my system, these are under my .wine/drive_c folder.
Good luck,
Andy
thank you Andy,
I will try in my fedora and post the result as well.
OK, I saw cab files it in ./wine/Microsoft Activesync folder. Thank again Andy.
extract .cab in linux -
synce.org , orange tools
gerisgame -- I'm glad it worked for you! If you don't mind compiling from source, the Orange tools kevit specified work without all the Wine/ActiveSync business.
kevit -- Thanks for your comment about Orange tools. I had been over at the synce.org but never saw them.
Once I had the right libraries, they built cleanly and work like a charm on the files I've tried.
Andy
Orange and synce
Thank you both Kevit and Andy, I will try that way. If it works, it is more straight and better way.
I try Orange tool in my fedora laptop, but it does not work, belows is my command line:
[[email protected] Pocket2005]$ orange pqdvd.exe

0 files
I can not find a documentation for orange tool, pls help. THX
I thought that pqDVD was a regular desktop application.
If so, orange tools probably won't help. pqDVD may install and run under wine, though.

Changing the Start Button Icon

I've seen a lot of people asking how folks have changed the Windows logo to the HTC one and so on. I am one of those people!
There's a thread over in the Diamond Forum here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437307, that discusses altering the taskbar icons.
I've had a read of that but it doesn't appear to discuss the start button. I've currently got a cab installed that gave me coloured icons on the taskbar but also the 3d MS Office style start button. I like the icons but not that start button.
Is there anyway someone could provide an idiot/noob style guide for altering that icon. I'd love to have the Vista start button on my HD (attached image) but have no idea how to go about it aside from I think it has something to with .dll files.
Can anyone explain this? Anyone? I know there would be a lot of people grateful for it! I've Googled and used the search but just cannot seem to find anything!
I've attached a mock-up of my ideal; I've got the coloured icons, just the start button to go!
I think....
the explanation is to edit the shellres.192.dll file here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2791169&postcount=3
using the process here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2791165&postcount=1
No?
EDIT: I am going to try myself this evening with your very nice icon...will let you know how it goes, if you don't beat me to it!
I believe you can do it with Wisbar.
Wisbar is not free.

...........
This is the thread I used to alter the Windows logo to a HTC logo among other things in this thread. It's dead easy,
1) Unsign the file using Unsigner linked to in the thread further up (on page 2 of the Unsigner thread there's a .bat file that I found gave a better idea of whether it had worked or not).
2) Open the file in Reshacker and go to Icon on the left hand side and click it to expand it. Go to number 292, click it and it will expand to show 1033. Click 1033 and it should be the start menu icon. Right click on 1033 and select Replace Resource. Select Open File With New Icon and find your new (resized) icon. Double click it and it will show a preview of new and old. Click Replace in the bottom right corner.
3) Save the newly modified file.
4) Sign the modified file using Ssigner linked to in the thread above. CHECK THE TEXT FILE IT CREATES TO MAKE SURE IT SIGNED OK. Don't forget this bit as it will mean a hard reset if you do (as I learnt).
5) If you've not installed SDKCert.cab some time in the past. download it from here, copy it to the phone and install it.
6) Copy the file to the Windows directory on the phone using Resco Explorer or Total Commander.
7) Reboot the phone.
how did you copy shellres.192.dll? it says "Acces denied" even with resco. No chance to renaming also
To get the file in the first place you need a program called ROM Extractor on the phone to get the file from ROM. There are also different varients of the ROM for different locales. There's a description in the link above.
thanks for your efforts but seems a little complicated TotalCommander did the trick, resco seems to have some security check problems
anyway, unsigner doesn't work so i'm stuck

Try the .bat file in the second page of the Unsigner thread. Copy Unsigner, the .bat file and the file you want to unlock to the same directory and double click the .bat file. Also, because the file is from ROM make sure it's not marked as Read Only when you get it to your PC before unsigning it. If it's from ROM they're usually Read Only for a start.

I will try tomorrow. I have been meaning to give this s shot for a while now, and the icon you posted is what I have been looking for.

Do you have the cab to change the other icons? I had a quick look on the diamond thread but couldn't find the exact ones you have! Thanks.

True, but when I tried Unsigner on it's own it didn't give any feedback as to what it was doing (or if it did I missed it) so I changed 150+ icons only to find it hadn't been unsigned and therefore couldn't be resigned. At least with the batch file I can check it's been properly unsigned before making changes.
Does it give you any error messages when you try Unsigner?

that's the point: no errors from unsigner, but resourcehacker can't open my file (not valid bla bla bla)
In which case I'd say the file hasn't copied across properly from the phone. Reshacker should be able to open the file and allow editing even if it's still signed. I'd try ROM Extractor to copy the file from ROM to elsewhere on the phone and then copy that across to the PC.

uhm seems reasonable
but I don't want to extract all my whole rom for a stupid dll... I extracted with total commander, isn't supposed to work this way?
Nope, certain ROM files can't be copied using normal file copy programs. I've found that they try and copy, then say the "File already exists, do you wish to replace?" and then whatever you select you're left with a 0k file with nothing in it. The ROM extractor doesn't copy the whole ROM. When you launch it you get a list of all the ROM files. Double click the one you want to extract, give it a location (\ usually for the root directory of the phone) and a name and click Extract.
Ok, I will try. But how to replace when modified? If I can't even read it, how will I replace it?

For everyone with provxml not applying changes

Hello xda-developers
I'm not really sure if it's already mentioned here on the forums, but today I found out that provxml-files which where written as .rgu and translated by "rgu-2-xml" don't work for Windows Phone 7. The output file is saved as ANSI file. After updating to Mango I tried a "Developer Unlock.xml" file but it didn't work. Well, all the procedure back and again but now with a UNICODE file After right-clicking the (ANSI) xml-file, "edit" and re-saving it as UNICODE file I noticed that the size of the file increased I tried the provxml-Method again and it worked! Not sure if I'm the only one with this solution and like I already said: not sure if it's already said here Please let me know if it helped you

Ηow you will run provxml on omnia ...
I was under the impression that provxm works only with htc connection setup ...
And yes after the appl (connection setup) finish the 1rst run its deleting the provxml file.
You can also use it on Samsung devices Here is the thread where I found it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152422
Yes, with Connection Setup on HTC it will be deleted - but what about the GPRS Manager used for Samsung devices? After executing a command (xml-file) in the GPRS Manager, it's still there ^^ Even if I restart the app or the whole phone -> After opening the GPRS Manager again, all the entries seem to stay there
EDIT: Okay, tested it again and it seems like you can apply the xml's as often as you want with GPRS Manager I flashed a older ROM so my phone was on 7004 again I unlocked using ChevronWP7 and installed WP7 root tools. I created a file which switches the Internet Explorer's search provider to Google Well, after execution I first opened IE9, pressed search and yup.. google.com came up - then, just to be sure I opened WP7 root tools and took a look at the SearchScopes in registry. They were changed to Google, so the xml really worked. Then I manually wrote everything back to default. I opened the Internet Explorer, pressed the search button and Bing came up.. so everything's like before. I applied the "Google Search.xml" again and.. yes, it worked: Same effect like above: Registry was changed, IE9 search is now google.com
Well so at the end I can say that this is really useful for switches like in my example. I created several switches like "Enable instant resuming.xml", "Disable instant resuming.xml", "Enable lockscreen never option.xml", "Use Bing (default) search.xml", "Use Google search.xml", ... Wow, Mango with fast resuming apps is wonderful!

All of my rgu's that I've converted using xboxmods tool rgu2xml have worked just fine on my hd7.
It does kinda suck that HTC connection setup deletes the provxml everytime
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Hm.. yes, maybe on HTC (with HTC connection setup) it's enough to convert them. On my Omnia 7 i had to open the provxml files, and resave them as UNICODE ".xml" files It's nice that GPRS Manager on Samsung devices doesn't delete the .xml files
Thank you for this! I was wondering why Connection Setup-applied ProvXML wasn't working. This will hopefully do it.
I've come up with a way to chain provxml files. I don't yet know if it works - it depends on how the deletion after processing the CustClear file is implemented - but it has the potential to allow you to store a "working copy" ProvXML file in My Documents as a txt file (which you can open and edit with Word), and then every time you use Connection Setup, it copies your "working copy" file to \Windows, renaming it as it does. This should make further modifications easier; just copy the XML from a website or app, paste it into Word, and run Connection Setup twice (once to copy your edited file, once to process it).
If it works, I'll post the file.
OK, I couldn't get the chaining to work. It's still in the file, just commented out, in case anybody else wants to experiment.
Oh, and I added some very convenient (if you deal with things like I do all day) registry tweaks. Open .LOG files as though they were .txt (great for attachments) and add an expansion for the , key similar to the one that the . key has.
THis really help me, That's the reason why my unlock.xml didn't worked in 7712 back then. I thought it was the 7712.

I'm trying to keep my HD7 unlock after updating to 7712 but the many times I tried, the Connection Setup will not run after 7712 update. If you can share the file and method with steps you used, that would be appreciated.
I don't know why your HTC connection setup didn't start after the update But maybe you did something wrong.. Okay, let's go through the steps together
Well, for Samsung devices you need a .xml file (GPRS connection manager handles with .xml files).
And on your HD7 you need an .provxml file (HTC connection setup handles with .provxml files).
Okay, first step is to be developer unlocked on NoDo - I think you are, right? [If you want to test it: Just try to sideload an app. If it works your phone is unlocked.. else it's not.]
Now uninstall HTC connection setup and install it again. Do not sideload any app found in the internet - just install the official app from the marketplace.
The next step is to get the right .provxml file. You don't need to do the following steps: I've already attached one which works. But just that you can follow me: Basically the file has to apply the following changes:
1) Developer unlock
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\LVMod]
"DeveloperUnlockState"=dword:1
2) Prevent from relock
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg]
"PortalUrlProd"=""
"PortalUrlInt"=""
3) Maximum sideloaded apps
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install]
"MaxUnsignedApp"=dword:7fffffff
And to create a this file we need to open Notepad:
Code:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\LVMod]
"DeveloperUnlockState"=dword:1
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg]
"PortalUrlProd"=""
"PortalUrlInt"=""
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install]
"MaxUnsignedApp"=dword:7fffffff
Simply save this file as a .rgu file.
Then you need the tool "rgu-2-xml.exe" which converts the .rgu to a .provxml file. I've also attached this tool.
Okay, the generated file has now to be in the "Windows" directory of your phone. You can use the "WP7 mass storage" trick to get the file to your device - just search here on xda-developers. After you've copied the file to your device it will be stored in "\My Documents\Zune\Content\0400\...". Now you need a file explorer for HD7. I'm not sure if you're already using a tool but TouchXplorer should do the job. Open your tool on the phone and navigate to the folder above. There should be several folders.. just browse through them and look for a file which has got a short name and another file ending as our file (CustClear.provxml). Check the file size - it has to be the same on PC and your phone. If it's the same file rename it to "CustClear.provxml" again. Then move the file to the "Windows" folder on your HD7. The file has got the right name and is on the right place.. let's go on:
Now don't start the HTC connection setup!
Be sure to update to the highest build available at the moment. It's Mango v7720. There are tutorials here on xda-developers.com on how to update to v7720 Run HTC connection setup only if you can see that your phone is running v7720. You can see this under settings > about > more information.
Then you should be developer unlocked and sideloading apps should work again.
If anyone finds a mistake in those instructions please tell me! Thanks
And please tell me if it worked
Thanks for this but I don't need it now as as I had solved my problem.
After 7403 update, I uninstalled Connection Setup and re-installed again.
Nonetheless, I will PDF your instructions and download the 3 files to try out and learn this. Thank you very much for providing the detailed instructions. I'm sure it might be useful for some others.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\LVMod]
"DeveloperUnlockState"=dword:1

"PortalUrlProd"=""
"PortalUrlInt"=""
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install]
"MaxUnsignedApp"=dword:7fffffff

Is it possible to enable a custom notification sound via a reg edit in the omnia 7 running 7720 chevron unlocked? Maybe someone can make a prov file and instructions...
Well, maybe it's possible but I'm not really sure what you mean But I'm aware of provxml's capabilities, how to build them and how to set up the phone, so maybe I can help you
Thanks... I read somewhere that with a registry key we can change the path of the notification sound... This way we dont need to overwrite the original .wav... I believe this might be the only way to do it in mango since homebrew is blocked...
Need to check the registry key thread for this one, since i dont really know much about this...
Dehydration Hack
I have used this method to unlock and remove the side load limit on my HD7 and it works great. I am unsure how to create a file to turn the dehydration hack on and then off again after I have updated all the way to 7720. I used the HTC Connection setup once I fully updated, I have touch explorer I just have no clue what to do for the dehydration can anybody help me?
On HTC devices you can't create a simple switch to enable / disable the dehydration hack because once you've ran the HTC connection setup the provxml files will be deleted. But if you don't want to switch that often between on / off you can use this tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907971
You'll have to create two .rgu files:
First one contains this:
Code:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\TaskHost]
"DehydrateOnPause"=dword:0
Second one contains this:
Code:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\TaskHost]
"DehydrateOnPause"=dword:3
Then you have to convert them to .provxml files. Put the first one in a folder called "Enable dehydration hack" and the second one into a folder called "Disable dehydration hack". This way you can't mess it up
Then use the tool mentioned above to deploy the .provxml which contains the setting you want to have on your phone - then finally run the HTC connection setup
For example you've enabled the dehydration: To disable it again you have to put the CustClear.provxml from "Disable dehydration hack" into the XAP file from xboxmod and deploy this XAP to your device. Then run HTC connection setup again and the changes will be applied - Dehydration hack will be turned off
Please tell me if it worked for you / helped you,

How to install xap/appx/appxbundle without PC

file explorer does nothing whenever i click install option to install app
Is there anything i am missing or
There is some other tool/app to do so
you cant do this... not possible
not all apps can be installed by the file manager
I think only signed apps.
Is there any tool to install apps (without help of file explorer).

YESSSS ... read search on this great forum. https://www.google.com/url?q=http:/...ds-cse&usg=AFQjCNGJKSp4_X0JBgeAGCN8TEvpZuiFiQ
You can deploy appx and appxbundles without PC, go to Developer Settings and turn on Device Portal. Then tap Pair and memorize the password or just leave it there in the background. Now go to Edge and navigate to http://127.0.0.1/ and enter the password. I suggest to also check the Remember box. Now you can deploy appx packages on the Apps page. This does not work for XAP.
My edge didnt ask for password.
On developer mode on device portal set off ask for password.
It won't install unsigned packages though. That sort of defeats the purpose of being a Developer option doesn't it?

Open interop tool & goto application
Select developer option then slide to register a package
Browse AppxManifest.xml (not WMAppManifest.xml) from the unpacked xap

i have collection of xaps and all install without problems... just need right xap file and good interop unlock... btw why you need PFD on W10M????
Just to check the interop and some tweaks...
I use the xap deployer and lite sdk from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/wi.../tutorial-deploy-xaps-easily-wpv-xap-t3263968
Do you have a better method?
Do we have fs access for lumia 950 yet or not?
I guess I have to wait a bit for Heathcliff74...
