[Q] Deleted Rosie.apk and would like it back - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I wanted rid of the surplus bumf on my DHD so I installed Visionary+ and Titanium Backup to do so.
the usuall stuff went, Stocks, Facebook and then I saw something called com.HTC.Rosie.
It wasn't until I wanted to add a widget and some Googling that I found out what I did.
I managed to find the Rosie.apk file on my DHD and have tried various methods to reinstall it but to no avail.
I doubt anyone apart from me has been so fullish but can you point me in the right direction in how to get it reinstalled ??

Rosie is the sence launcher lol ok try this, put your device into recovery mode and connect it to your pc, copy rosie.apk to the same folder as adb (tools or platform-tools). Now use adb and type the following commands:
Adb shell
Mount /system
Exit
Adb push rosie.apk /system/app/
Exit
Now wipe the dalvik cache and reboot.

Cheers AndroHero, thanks for your time
Done and dusted.

Removing pre-installed applications (Bell HTC Desire Z)

Hi guys, Basically I'm sick of all the trialware that Bell has put on the thing and would like to get rid of it. I have root and root explorer installed. I don't really want to reflash my phone and follow the debranding procedure. So is there any way I can achieve this ?
I have tried deleting the .apk files from the system/app folder as well. The applications just reappear after a couple of minutes.

Pretty sure there are quite a few questions/guides about this out there already if you do a search...
In short, you can delete the appropriate APK from your /system/app directory (or use the "pm uninstall" command in terminal). Alternatively, you can simply disable the app with a "pm disable" command (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809231). This is usually the safer route---disable the app, make sure your phone is still running properly, then uninstall it if you still want to. If you want a nicer interface for doing all this, you can download TitaniumBackup from the Market (I believe the free version allows both uninstalling and freezing/disabling apps).

Uninstalling in Titanium Backup didn't work either. Freezing however did. I'll keep it this way till I put some Cyanogen magic on it. Thank you kind sir!

Interesting that Titanium Backup didn't work either (or that deleting the apk from /system/app failed as well). Be sure in your Titanium Backup preferences, you select "Chuck Norris" mode if you didn't already.

Constant sync, reinstall friendstream????

So I am rooted and running the latest skyraider. I removed friendstream and the widget from my phone a while ago. I also still have the facebook still synced to my phone. I have been researching this a lot and still haven't figured out what I need to do. What I can tell is i have this constant sync icon in my notification status bar practically all the time. When I go into accounts & sync nothing in there is actually syncing. I can click on "cancel sync" and the sync icon will go away for a few minutes then it is right back there again a little while later. When I go into accounts, running services there is "Facebooksyncstreamservice" at the bottom which when I click it to stop it brings me directly to the accounts and sync settings menu. I click cancel sync and again it stops for only a short period of time.
After reading a lot on the internet and forums it seems like if you are using FB on your phone you should also keep friendstream installed as well otherwise you could get this constant sync icon which I seem to be receiving as a result of removing friendstream.
So i found the friendstream apk on line and downloaded it to the computer to install on my phone. Hooked up the phone via the usb cable installed the apk to my sd card then tried to install it via OI file manager. Says it begins to install then just aborts the install and says "File not installed" or something to that nature.
I have also read that you can only install this by using adb push which I have no idea how to do. I have searched but have come up empty with a step by step guide at using adb push method.
I have also found another write up where someone describes using root explorer to move the apk to the system>app folder then install through there which results in the same "File not installed" message once completed.
Basically I have no other recourse but to turn to the infinite knowledge base of XDA to possibly ask for help on either 1. finding a way to deactivate this constant sync icon or 2. reinstall the friendstream apk which I believe will stop this constant sync icon (fingers crossed).
Any help would be appreciated and thank you in advance for anyone that can offer some help or incite. If anyone is going to respond to this thread with negative comments and remarks, please refrain as I am only looking for assistance and not useless time wasting comments. Thanks
Any ideas here??
I am also very interested in the outcome of this question, I have done the same deed as you but on a stock thunderbolt rom. If you find out any ways to fix this please do inform me.
Take the friendstream apk and use root explorer to move it to the /system/app folder. Then long press on it and give it the same pernissions as the other apks rw-r--r-- and then long press the file again and change the owner and group to root. Do not try to install it just reboot the phone and it will install it self. You should also restore the widget the same way.

Thanks for this, I just used one of my CWM's and ran TiBu to restore everything bc I had a little time on my hands, but this would have been much easier and less time consuming!

[Q] Deleting stock broswer

Is it possible to delete the stock browser with a custom ROM? At the moment if I try and do it from the Manage applications view it doesn't give me the option. But I was wondering if I could manually locate it and delete it without causing any stability issues?
Thanks
You can. ADB from recovery (S-ON), Root explorer (S-OFF).
But I don't know if it causes stability issues - never tried it.
It can be done and has no bearing on anything - just means you can't browse until you get one from the Market
Yes, can confirm that! I'm using Dolphin HD - so removed the stock about an hour ago. No problems.
I can add stock email, news/weather & chat apps to this list - no effect on other apps performing these functions, at least on Oxygen 2.0.1 anyway...
Brilliant, next question. Where is the stock app stored, as I will manually have to remove it.

For me it was system/app/Browser.apk
Removed with Root Explorer.
Sent from my customized HTC Desire using TTP
Ah yeah got to that file using Astro but it's only 684KB, yet when I look in Manage Applications it says that the Internet is 13.76MB.
Unless this includes other data rather than just the Browser, but I'm not so sure?
It surely includes other data (like history, cache etc.)
Probably cache and some settings. In manage applications, clear the data (if that's possible), then remove the .apk
in my opinion the best way to remove system apps is to install Titanium Backup (have the phone rooted), then go to apps in titanium backup then hold your finger on it , the menu appears, slide down and click on remove(using recovery bug)...
I have Titanium Backup but I can't seem to find the stock Browser under the Backup/ Restore tab the only thing I have which is remotely like that is:
[BOOKMARKS] Internet 2.2
Am I looking in the correct place?
Only you can remove it, if you have S-OFFed your phone. And I cant help you with that,I have it deleted already. But should be over there somewhere.
I've rooted my phone using the Unrevoked method and have CWM. But when I've checked the H-Boot screen it says I have S-ON, how do I get it Off?
S-OFF tutorial
Also, I forgot to mention, you can remove files via ADB from CWM/AmonRA. Guide here.
Thanks for this I think I'm going to try the ADB method as it looks a little easier. Plus I did read someone if you remove S-Off it can be permanent and effect warranty.

Apps are stored in /system/apps (may vary with rom?). There are a couple of options:
Titanium backup is free from market and will permanently remove any apps - you need root and s-off for this. Root explorer can be used for the same - just delete the .apk file.
You can also do it via cmd prompt and adb, look for detailed threads about this in these forums!
OK I now have S-Off on my phone and its also now obviously rooted but I still cannot delete my stock browser. I've tried using Titanium Backup but I can't locate it to delete it, I've also tried Root Explorer but when I try to delete the Browser.apk it comes up with the following message:
Browser.apk cannot be deleted because the file system is read only.
Also I've wiped data and deleted many of the stock HTC apps & widgets but I don't seem to be freeing up much if any space. My Low on Space indicator has been on throughout even though I have got rid of the following:
Footprints,
Footprints Widget,
Friend Stream,
Friend Stream Widget,
Music,
Music Widget,
News and Weather,
Peep,
Photo Widget,
Stocks,
Stocks Widget,
Teeter,
Twitter Widget,
Weather Widget.
Does it actually free up much space un-installing these?
Can anyone please help with these issues?
Root explorer fix
Hi
The reason Root Explorer comes with that error is because the system folder is mounted ass read only (you can't edit anything on it)
Fix:
1. Browse to system/app
2. In the upper right corner there is a mount R/W button, press it
3. Now you can read and write and therefore also delete the browser.apk
4. Remember to mount as R/O when done
It doesn't free up space as they are located in /system and regular apps are installed in /data.

[Q] Removing/Uninstalling integrated/rom apps

OK, so I'm using my HTC Desire with a custom rom.
It still has the News & Weather app built in, which I really don't like to have on my system, since I use alternatives instead of those.
The news & weather app I want to get rid of came with Ginger Villain 2.* rom and I've tried to find its services/executables, but to no avail.
Uninstalling is not an option when I go the normal route.
I'd like to know the best way to entirely remove some services and apps from the OS. Perhaps I need to edit some files as root in the /etc/init.d folder, which is fine by me, as long as I can erase the binaries that are used for the apps as well.
Where on the HTC Desire storage are these applications located? And why are they not simply uninstallable the normal way?
Thanks in advance for any and all info regarding this.

I see that you are s-off so this is easy to do. Navigate to /system /app and you will see an apk file for each app. Delete. Done!
I find root explorer the best app for this work - some other explorers won't display thus location or delete the files.
Easiest way would be Titanium Backup. Can disable apps and even better uninstall them from system if you're s-off.
You could also delete them in recovery using adb.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Also if you're s-off you can use Android Commander:
- reboot to recovery
-mount /system
- plug USB and start Android Commander
-delete anything you want
- reboot to system
Of course make a backup first

[Q] Pushing Scores and stuff to phone.

Hey y'all!
Got myself into trouble today when I was trying to change to manu kernel.
Was sittning on GV3.3 and phone got into bootloop. Silly as I am, I didnt make a nandroid backup before. But afterwards i got into recovery and made one. The i recovered from a really old nandroidbackup. So right now im back in april appwise and scorewise(fruit ninja, the three angrybirds etc.)
Have updated all my apps and is once again back at gv3.3.
I have extracted the data file from my nandroidbackup i made after i got into bootloop and now want to push back the appdata/saves to some of my apps.
How do i do it? Never pushed anything before so im at total newbie on that one.
What do i need, can do it on my pc or my macbook.
If anyone could help me it would mean the world to me!
Kind Regards
HÃ¥kan
you can either adb push them whilst in recovery if you are s-on or you can use root explorer and put them in thbe right place with s-off.
Theres an adb and fastboot faq in my signature.
Dont bother with the fastboot stuff as that wont help you here.
Managed to get some things to work. Like Angry Birds and Angry Birds Rio. Angry Birds Seasons refuses to use the files that seems to have been pushed.
Also sms/mms pushing do nothing.
Been trying this :
adb push c:\backup\mmssms.db /data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/
+
adb push c:\backup\.(all flies from app_parts is then in that folder) /data/com.android.telephony/app_parts)
Do i forget something? Have put my desire in recovery mode with update.zip and it mounts fine from my computer. Do I have to mount it in the telephone as well?
I would do this Whilst in recovery from a terminal:
Code:
adb shell
mount /data
exit
adb push c:\backup\mmssms.db /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
managed to get angry birds seasons score now.
But not my texts. Must i do something to restore them or will they be there automaticly when i reboot the phone?
This time i tried to rm the mmssms.db and all the files in app_parts. Then pushed the backups to their place. When I use ls i. /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/ and /app_parts/ all the files i pushed there are at their place. But still nothing shows up in the phone
can you push the entire contents of com.android.providers.telephony? After removing the entire contents of whats there?
when i pull it, it still there it seems. Pull only copies it?
So how do i remove a whole folder? And how do i push the folder back?

No dont pull it.
Code:
adb shell
mount /data
cd /data/data
rm /com.android.providers.telephony/*
Wooah! Somehow that didnt work, so i added -rf after rm. And it deleted the whole data folder. Trying to push the full content of data to /data/data/ know. Rebooting...
Didnt work. Lots of apps were FC. Recovered from nandroid. And tried it again. Was succesful in removing the /com.android.providers.telephony/ from phone. Adb pushed the other one i have on my computer but still no luck. Rom runs without problem but sms/mms is still empty when i check.
You sure i dont have to activate them or something? When i notepad the mmssms.db it sure is all of my texts. And now the whole folder is replaced with the one from my computer... Strange strange.
It should work. Odd. What about wipe of dalvik cache?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Will try it, ill be back
Got dammit! Didnt work that either.
I honestly don't know why this isn't working. It works for others. What about trying it straight from a factory reset?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Its not that I have to do something with chown radio.radio or chmod -r 775 or something like that from shell?
