I have a HTC Desire with HBOOT 0.93 rooted with unrevoked (I bought it with no branding) and now I want to unroot it. I tried several methods, but all of them failed, so I need you to recommend me a working one plese.
HTC Sync says "2.10.405.2 CL226611 release-keys"
I tried to install RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe, but it gives me an error:
Download this and try it:

Thanks, this worked.
I'm getting an Error 140: Booloader Version Error. I've tried using gold-card still no success. I'm on Hboot 0.93. I'm trying to flash it back to original to send in for warranty. Appreciate any help i can get.
Downgrade to 2.1 and then run the RUU you want again:

I have a branded (UK) Vodafone Desire that I loaded a stock Froyo ROM onto, now I need to get back to the branded Vodafone image (so I can return it for repair)
I have been trying to do this with the correct (Vodafone UK) RUU listed on thread 695667, but I keep getting a ERROR 140 : BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR.
I'm guessing this was because the HBOOT was 0.93, so I then successfully downgraded to Android 2.1 taking HBOOT back from 0.93 to 0.83 using the details in thread 768256.
My HBOOT is now 0.83 but the RUU still fails - same ERROR 140 : BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR.
So, is there a way to downgrade my HBOOT to 0.8 again (hoping that the RUU will work correctly with that version) ??
Or is there a way to extract the ROM image from the RUU exe and apply it using another method. ??
Thanks .. Ken
The problem is not HBOOT. Run the downgrade utility again, but -don't- install the downgrade in the bootloader (as described in the post), just select no, and then you can install the Vodafone RUU.
That worked a treat - thanks teppic74 !!
I have this strange problem.
I did the s-off using the alpharev. Once that was done, I experienced random reboots and phone lockups.
So, I decided to revert back and used the 2.29.405.2 ruu to get back to stock htc image.
Now, I am unable to root my desire using un-revoked. The phone freezes after doing the hboot and pre-boot sequence. I tried downgrading my hboot and I continue to experience the same problem.
Is there a way to get the phone to factory conditions ? I use a MAC. Can I use the RUU exe instead of the PB99IMG.zip ?
Has anyone faced a similar problem before ?
Any leads/pointers would be appreciated.
And yes, I am not a newbie and can find me way out through the adb forests !
Thanks
Shyam
bootloader should not change things about rooting.
have u checked hboot what does it tell now?
Thread moved to Q&A.
0.93.0001 S-ON is the hboot version that I get.
RUUs are Windows applications. You could just get the 2.29.405.5 PB99IMG and flash that to go back to the latest stock ROM
I am unable to root the stock 2.29.405.2 using unrevoked too !! The phone freezes after doing the pre-boot sequence.
Shyam
Are you using the current version of unrevoked or just some old version you found on your harddisk? Older versions could not root froyo based roms.
€: Perhaps they also patched something in 2.29.405.2 that prevents this rooting method.
I've had no issues with 2.29.405.2 using unrEVOked 3.22 - not tried since going back to 2.29.405.5
I have a Wildfire that I S-OFF'ed and rooted a while back. It originally had 3 UK firmware, although the phone was unlocked for all providers.
I remember having to downgrade the hboot to 1.01.0001 to get revolutionary to work. Unfortunately I cannot remember the exact steps I took to S-OFF and Root it, but they weren't anything out of the ordinary. I recently had to S-ON the phone and reflash the original firmware as I thought I'd have to return the phone to the shop.
Now, I'm trying to redo the whole process again, I want S-OFF and Root but I'm not having any luck. Currently, the phone is:
Hboot 1.01.001
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband 13.45.55.24H_3.35.15.31
Software V.1.37.405.1
Revolutionary won't do it, Unrevoked won't either. I've tried to both upgrade and downgrade the roms with RUU exe's but its unsuccessful. I've used both Windows and Linux so it's definitely not a driver issue; the phones are recognised. I can flash ClockWorkRecovery, but am getting a failed NAND flash error at times.
I'm sure I'm missing something as it was a real breeze last time. I'm really frustrated, especially as I'm lumbered with this crap firmware. I want my CyanogenMod back!!!!
Something that caught my eye was the firmware version: "2.1-update1". Is this the same as 2.1?

You can give my guide a go, it's in my sig. I've included very detailed steps.
Edit - I have managed to gain s-off once again, make sure to use the latest ruu
problems I had where revolutionary failed at zerging cmd
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035 the buzzdowngrade pack from here did not s-off
I ended up restoring from a different ruu instead of the tesco rom, from where the phone was from
RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed
Then revolutionary worked perfectly.
Hey guys,
I got a problem, that I can't root my Desire again, and I don't know why.
My Desire was once rooted, but I unrooted after installing the original RUU 2.2. version of android, After that, I installed 2,3,3 version, but I can't boot it. It shows me some black screen on boot.
I updated to HBOOT 1.0.3.003 with the official ruu upgrades. Now I can't get back on track and root it again with revolutionary (cause it supports only 2 older hboot versions).
Tried with unlocking the bootloader from htcdev, not completing the final step with copying the code because it showed no one at cmd prompt.
My phone is now *** LOCKED (OOW) *** in the bootloader.
I'm stuck at rooting process, want to install some great ROMs, but I can't. PLEASE HELP GUYS, i really appreciate you!!!
Search for how to downgrade hboot 1.03, tutorial out there somewhere
Then try revolutionary again

I found some tutorials about downgrading hboot 1.03, but it was with creating a golden card to my sd. Is there any way that creating gcard is not necessary ?
Hi all,
I am trying to root my stock HTC desire HD phone using the HTC easy unlock bootloader tool (also tried directly from HTCdev and easy ace root tool).
I get stucked right in the beginning: when trying to get my unlock token i get an error:
[ERR] Command error
I am on build 3.12.405.2
I am on HBOOT 2.00.0027
While searching for a solution I found out that there might be a problem with the HBOOT version (although version above 2.00. should be working, isnt't?), so I tried to update HBOOT. Tried updating with RUU, which gave an error that i was on version 3.12.405.2, while i should have been on version 3.12.405.1, so than I extracted PD98IMG.zip from the .exe and have put it on the root of my SD card, booted in Bootloader, but no update occured.
Now I am stucked and have no idea what to do next,
- should i still update my HBOOT and if so, how??
- is HBOOT not the problem and is there another solution?
Please help, thanks a lot,
xx LittleGirl

The best is to create a goldcard and flash a RUU with a main version supported by HTCDEV. Then update the hboot and finally unlock the bootloader.

Hi All,
finally figured it out:
Fist update your HBOOT 2.00.0027 to 2.00.0029 following the small part in this link: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f66...-os-s-off-change-imei-cid-hxc-dongle-1548982/
after that: you can continue with unlocking trough HCTdev, than flash clockworkmod recovery, than activate superuser and than go on however you want! (i installed the rom manager app)
xx

thanks a lot Glevitan, i was hoping a would get an answer from you . Eventually i didn't need to create a goldcard, just updating HBOOT using the link in my post above was enough to be able to continue!

That is just fine. But not for everyone..you gain tempo root to downgrade the main version and then flash GB rom. That is a nice move.
