I was looking to see if anyone else is having this issue I am having. I have had two different Incredibles. I have rooted each one multiple times and gone back to completely stock with the RUU file multiple times. I have noticed that when I am running completely stick with stock recovery neither phone will randomly reboot. As soon as I root with Unrevoked I start getting random reboots with the stock ROM. I do always install the same apps after I root so I don't know if it's one of the apps.
The only apps I install after root are:
ROM Manager
ShootMe
Wireless Tether
That's it. I noticed my phone generally runs a little slower also after rooting. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
Are you running a custom kernel? The only time I have had issues with random reboots was when I installed a kernel that my phone did not like. For instance, I can run hydrakernel 1.13, but if I try to overclock to 1.15, I tend to get random reboots. One other possibility would be to try a new kernel, that could help with the reboot issue.
Also, try running fix permissions in ROM Manager, or run it from recovery.

I know at least two of us here have this problem. With me it happens nearly every other reboot, when I boot to recovery or when I boot the phone. It just sticks at white HTC screen forever and I have to pull the battery.
It is more of an anoyyance than anything however I suppose it could be dangerous if it happened during radio update. Anyone else have the problem or some insight into what causes it?
I know mine started doing it before I even flashed a permanent recovery so that's not the problem.
Thanks.

I had this problem, but only on vanilla FroYo roms. It annoyed me and stopped a friend from getting one (even after a lengthy conversation about it being me rooting and the rom) but on sense no such problems.
Now on CM6 and I don't get the problem. So I myself have narrowed it down to vanilla FroYo.

I'm on cm6 and get it all the time. Had it on defrost too.
I'm using LeeDroids v1.3a sense Rom and I've never had a hang. To be honest I've never had froyo run this smoothly on any other Rom before. I've rebooted about 10 times and its fast and swift, with no hangs.

Defrost was the worst due it with me. Every other boot (if I was lucky!) would end up in a boot loop.

i think its to do with your ext not mounting so then it hangs. I had this issue on OD 1.6 and AdamG's Sense but it got sorted when I used Defrost's a2sd script.
Is there some sort of log i can pull to see what is going wrong when it hangs?
Any ideas on how to diagnose what is going wrong on boot?
I don't know if I understand what is the real problem, i'm spanish.
I understand that some ROM's are not booting well doing a bootloop. With my Desire I haven't got this issue but on my cousin Desire this problem occured with a ROM that are working well for me with same conditions and tested also with same SD card.
I try this:
Apply the PB99IMG.zip based on 1.23 from Virgin Mobile and working correctly.
Wipe from recovery, and bootloop.
Apply again de PB99IMG.zip
Flash a rooted version of this ROM without wipe, device boot well and its rooted.
I try to flash the MDC r5 Froyo with Sense and same problem ocurre but can't boot with or without wipe.
so, i previously had a rooted ROM. one of the stock rooted 2.2 roms that came out a while back. 2.09? and now the new rooted stock roms are out, 2.10? so i tried to install that. used rom manager and installed from SD and everything went well. but now i seem to have a problem with random reboots. haven't quite found a correlation between anything causing reboots yet. is there a way to log what happens to find out what may be causing the reboot?
or should i try flashing a new radio? i really don't see how radio's affect stability (came from winMo where it didn't), but i've seen reports about that here.
i have already tried restoring to my previous rom (via rom manager) and the random reboots are still there.
Well radio is how hardware communicates with software so I would guess it would be that.. in rom manager there is a rom download section.. click on NeoPhyTe and at the bottom there are radios so just flash one of them

1. hard reset. is it still doing it?
2. adb logcat. <- this logs what is happening with your phone. but without knowing what is causing it you could be watching your logs for a while
So was a cause found? Reason for asking is because quite a few of us are starting to get the same problem including myself .
I'm currently running Cyanogenmod 6.1.1 stable and every time I try to flash it the rom will at some point within the first 30 minutes of using it reboot. After that point it will start sporadicly rebooting. I've tried everything from flashing the stock rom and flashing back to even unrooting it and rerooting it but nothing has worked. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the rom itself though as I had these same problems running myn's twopointtwo rls4. The odd thing is though that when I run the most recent rooted stock rom I haven't seemed to have these problems. I could be mistaken about the stock one though because I haven't run it for very long. I'm going to try a few things with cyanogen and if I keep having problems I'll probably flash the stock one and see if they go away. But has anybody else had this problem and if so do they know how to fix it?
edit: turns out my battery has some sort of short in it because I replaced it with my spare and haven't had any problems.
Ladies and gents.
First, I realize Saturday is probably not the best day to have an issue, so I appreciate any input I can get.
First, I'm running a rooted (toast method) evo, currently on CM7.
For the longest time, I didn't change roms, and then updated to CM7 a couple of months ago (iirc).
Shortly thereafter, I began experiencing random reboots, my phone getting extremely hot, and sitting through bootloops upon startup.
After upgrading my radio, nothing was solved. I downloaded another CM7 clean and flashed it. Same issues.
I download a Fresh Rom, and was unable to even flash it after wiping continuously.
I nanroided back to my CM7, of course with the same instability issues.
Then I nandroided back to the ROM (damage control, iirc) I had (that was perfectly stable at the time for nearly 1 year) before CM7, and I barely got it booted all the way through before it reset and started looping.
I don't know if it's a hardware issue or a software issue, but I can't flash another ROM to find out.
I was going to unroot today and take it down to Sprint. Of course, I can't get the dadgum thing to restart in a stable manner, so I was going to move the PC36IMG file to my SD card via ClockwordMod recovery.
I get in to the bootloader and choose recovery. My phone resets like normal before entering recovery, except now it enters a bootloop.
Pulled the battery, tried again. Same result.
So if you have any thoughts on any of the issues above (in particular the CM7 stability issues or the recovery issue) I'd love to hear them.

Try running a RUU from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060
[Hint, don't run 4.24.651.1 or you'll lose root ]
Since you rooted using Toast's method, I doubt you ever ran unrevoked forever. So run the 3.70 RUU or lower. If you can get into recovery, I'd flash unrevoked forever just to be safe.
Unfortunately your issue sounds like a mixture of problems I've seen others have. If this is the case, worst case scenario is that you'll never be able to boot your phone again if the issues continue... you'll constantly loop regardless of running RUUs, etc. Best case scenario is that you'll always have the bootlooping/overheating issue and eventually have to get a replacement.
Again, these best/worse case scenarios are based on what I've seen others experience. Hopefully the RUU will fix your problems.
Good luck!

I guess I posted this in the wrong forum last time...sorry
Hi guys, I'm running this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1485722 and I'm having one major issue....recurrent bootloops from no where. I'll often check my phone after it having been in my pocket, and it will be bootlooping. Or I'll be using an application and it will happen...phone freezes, starts bootlooping.
A battery pull fixes the loop, but it happens time and time again. I tried fixing permissions in CWM but that didn't fix it. I love the rom and want to use it, but its unreliability is such a flaw that I simply cannot.
Tl;dr: I like the rom, want to fix random bootloops. If this is not possible, do you have any suggestions on either similar roms, or straight up better ones with reliability?
Thanks

Again, did you try wiping and reflashing? Are you overclocked
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
I will wipe and reflash tonight, thanks for the tip... hopefully it works =D
I've been having the same problem. The odd thing is that it seemed to only happened to sense roms. I tried Mikrunny, TSMtrinity, TSMvanilla, and Sabotage. I full wiped before each flash and didnt overclock. After a few minutes it would randomly reboot. I got frustrated and restored an old MIUI backup and it hasn't rebooted since.
Working thus far...thanks guys!
