I changed my HTC device with an Apple Iphone..the major thing I miss is the XDA developers forum ... In the future can we (about 5000k people..) at least hope to have one ? cheers....
probably not, this forum is for ms pda's (mainly htc), notice not much talk of palm devices either you'll probably have to find other forums that discuss the iphone cuz ive noticed not many people on this forum even like the word iphone unless its getting bashed. so good luck but i wouldnt look forward to it
I heard Apple is releasing the dev kit for the iPhone...so people can start writing their own apps for the phone. Also heard something about being able to run webapps offline.
I'm sure the iPhone forums will take off as soon as people start developing for the iPhone.
yeah it's true. tomorrow for the devkit !
If it's not made by HTC you won't get it through the door. There'll be sites-a-pleanty once a devkit is out but probably none as good as this. I wonder if Apple will set about having them shut down? You can't have people using their own property for anything they want you know.....
another issue is that apple use objectC rather then c++ or c# or even old c or poorly VB
and objectC is a world apart from the other languages

This is really an HTC only forum.
Sorry to plug, but forums.macrumors.com has a pretty good iPhone/iPhone Hacking Community.
Hey!
A little Definion about "XDA":
"The [O2] Xda brand is a range of O2-branded Windows Mobile PDA phones, produced by multiple manufacturers (mainly HTC, Quanta and Erima). The first model was released in June 2002. The "X" represents convergence of voice and information/data within one product; the "da" stands for "digital assistant", as in PDA."
I think this forum should be specified in Windows Mobile. The iPhone isn't a productively device on the market! And the people who buy this expensive "Fun-Gadget" doesn't use it to develop something on it.
"The iPhone is a dust-bin: It can look beautiful, but the contents are rubbish."

What part of the contents are rubbish? Just wondering becuase I just got a good deal on a 16gb and I cant find flaws. BTW, I purchased it to resell it becuase it was way too cheap. Not to mention, it would give me a chance to see what all the hype was about. Let me tell you...I know why so many devs on xda are trying to emulate some of the features and charecteristics of the iphone. Bcuase it is the best phone/handheld device that I have ever played with.
In my idea, not to go into all of the greatness of the iphone in my opinion, but if I can buy a 16gb for $400 (unlocked to use with any gsm carrier), $5.99 T-ZOne hack and many other cool things like SNES, NES with each having about 100 or so games etc. and the abilty to add 12 movies and over 700 songs and still have over 7gb to play with and still running like lightning.......my mind is made up.
DOnt let me forget about the accelorometer and the games that are available that utilize the accelorometer.
Please tell me where the rubbish is.
Oh and BTW, I am locked in my Verizon contract for another couple of months on my 6700 so I cant %100 test the calling capabilities yet as I have not hooked this one up.

Damn, Craigslist here I come. The HD2 is awesome.
This is amazing... Only thing that would scare me is Microsoft finding out. We've seen how strict they can be with their policies, especially taking actions towards your Live account on Xbox... So I'd hate for this to lead to some accounts becoming suspended or penalized for using "hacked consoles" in a way...
Other than that, this is great... This is why I keep my older phones... Of course this is no use to me, but it gives HD2 users new life... Let's see how many of them stop bashing WP7 now that they have it

They can't touch you if you have Android on it. That's one reason I want to go with Android on my HD7 rather than do temporary hacks on it. But having a WP7 device, I have no desire to use it on my HD2. It just isn't that good to me now that the newness has work off.
I hope microsoft finds a way to block this quickly, just gonna lead to more hacking, then comes free paid apps, then comes a lack of good developers due to no financial plus-side, then comes the OS being just a prettier version of android....

Be careful, don't say this too loud, I was just attacked by some very close-minded users in another thread about it... People just don't understand, Microsoft doesn't have Apples marketing ability to overcome the blast that will come from all of these hacks. Even if you were being sarcastic, couldn't tell.
But I do think this is good for the HD2 users, at least it gives them hope for the expensive device some of them are bound to.
Nah, I'm 100 percent serious. I support third party applications no problem but getting paid apps for free is crap. Who wants to dev for a platform that can get their games for free?

And every one of them continues to try and fix their holes. Unfortunately most OSes had crap security to work off of to begin with and its hard building on top of crap. Windows had fair security and im hoping they can fend off the people getting free apps at least for the Xbox live games or else we may never get ports of our favorite games to WP7

I don't think it has anything to do with getting paid apps free. Android has some of the best games going that people are ripping off right and left and devs continue to develop for it.
this has nothing to do with hacking apps , the code they use will be connected to the live account they use.
the os isn't hacked , only ms his market place on the pc hacked to download app's to the pc (they can fix it 10 sec, so don't ask me way they didn't fixed it)
you can see the hd2 got a legal update (not cracked what so ever ) from a illegal place

Gizmodo has just posted an article on WP7 (early Mango build) and they really seem to like it. Apparently the choice this fall is between iPhone and WP7 (unless there's a "killer Nokia" or a radical "Android redesign"). Not bad
Edit: Windows Phone Sauce has compiled a list of previews which you can see here - they all seem generally positive.
So far been pretty good reviews out there, really like how Gizmodo shows off the features in the video.

It's very nice they like it. But this "unless there's a a radical "Android redesign" is equally silly and shows they're not really serious.
Reading such positive reviews is great, normally Gizmodo has been very critical of the OS.
Doesn't matter how good the reviews are or how good mango is. As soon as you go into a best buy or an AT&T store the sales rep will tell you not to buy a windows phone. I really hate the bias against microsoft.
Didn't gizmodo originally like WP7? I remember a billboard here in the UK with the Gizmodo quote "This changes everything"... Then after launch they proceeded to slag it off at any opportunity.

Everything looks good except for the multi-tasking feature...
It looks like iOS... it'll be nicer if its vert-scrolling like the main screen.

If you go into a grocery store and they try to get you to buy a nice dole banana or some generic rotten trash, is that being bias? No that's reccommending the correct item. Same premise.

So by recommending Android basically they are saying no other phone is worth buying? I find that to be biased, since I have used and even developed for Android in the past. I happen to like WP7 more now, I would have never figured that out by asking sales reps I had to learn that myself.

I didn't say it's not, I was just showing that the press are becoming more positive towards Windows Phone. Engadget, who are notoriously anti-MS, even had good things to say about Mango (as doministry linked). Lets not forget the fact that Android doesn't suffer from the same retail bias, so it's nice to see some objective balance being brought in.

I have seen some pretty piss poor analogies but this one takes the cake. The correlation makes absolutely no sense, and assigning a "brand" to bananas is crazy. But congrats Dole, people believe a sticker make your product better than Chiquita, or any other "generic" banana (what exactly is a generic banana?) which could have very well been picked off the same tree (since they also import bananas as well).
By the way, you walk in Best Buy and they are pushing Playbooks at you. That means they are the best option available?
There are more than a handful of customer associates that recommend what is in their best interests.

excellent response ! yes, the biased reviews are nice filtering mechanisms for folks (like you) that can see through them, and find better sources.
I'm still waiting for hard numbers of wp7 device sales. id imagine developers would flock to it -if- there was proof it was a viable 3rd place in handset sales. obviousely there is money in developing ios, some in android, but without numbers, are devs supposed to believe marketers ?
htc just stated they sold 1 out of 2 new wp7 devices, unfortunately, that's still not much to go with.
seeing reviews that show the hardwares weak points along with the softwares' is really nice. the bias makes it meh.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming that WP7 should be praised and others condemned. Every platform has its pros and cons (and it would be nice to not have any obvious bias in articles), but there's been, IMO, some unjust biased against WP7 in many mainstream articles simply because it has the MS tag on it.
I agree about the hard numbers as it's what's keeping a lot of developers away. There are some big names coming through though (Amazon, Angry Birds, PopCap etc..), so there may be something. I think a lot of devs, including myself, are getting some apps out there for now, hoping that Mango really delivers.
iPhone certainly has a market, but with a Mac required to develop for it, it seems a bit too much of a barrier for me. Android is okay to develop for, and I loved the openness of pretty much being able to do what you wanted. However, despite the market share of Android, there's still not much evidence that developers can make any real money either. There are too many free apps which do the same as paid apps and when users are conditioned to believe everything should be free on your platform, that's not great for devs. I thought it was interesting that Angry Birds went for a free, ad-based model rather than a paid model considering they had already had a following. Any new IPs trying to do something similar probably won't have the same large following, thus making the ad revenue pretty low.

Isn't the Windows Marketplace growing at an unprecedented rate? Fact or fiction? So why do poor sales matter to you? It seems like it is only for bragging rights since Windows Phone has had no shortage of app development or software updates.
I understand all the good reasons why strong sales are desireous. But at this point in time it does not matter to you if your neighbour did not buy a Windows Phone. The phone is still progressing at a positive rate.
Currently 24,447 apps in the window phone marketplace. That's huge considering it's only been out since October/November of last year? We could see 50,000 apps by the end of this year. With Mango's 1500 new API's and better live tile support/multi-tasking I see apps only becoming better and better.

I have seen some pretty stupid things posted in this forum, but this has to be the dumbest. You're basically saying that Android is the "nice Dole banana" and WP is the "trash," and therefore, all sales reps are just doing their job by offering Android only and pushing you away from WP? Some of you people man... If you don't like the platform, just shut up... Touching on the actual topic, not only have I seen good reviews, but extensive ones, which I prefer much more... Whether the opinion is good or bad, I appreciate them taking a great deal of time outlining the platform...
If you don't believe me I'll link the articles (some guy on this site said I was lying), so much news about WP7 being dead in the water, bad sales and a bunch of other stuff, all this is going to do is push people away. I really hope the whole Nokia/MS Ad blitz works...

Simple answer, they don't know any better. Getting advice from sales people who don't know what they're talking about. Plus, there's quite a few who don't even know about WP7.
its due to Android and iOS having their fanbase already established, the bad rep "windows mobile" left which leaves the impression that wp7 is like wndows mobile 7 (they should have called it something more similar to xbox or zune imo) lacking features at launch and so on. personally, after installing Mango, im convinced that WP7 is mature enough to be my full time OS. just love the ui design, smoothness, and overall integration with all things microsoft and social networks

people in press always loved/love apple. they are the ones in most companies that use macs, while the rest of the companies departements are pc only. they obviously love their iphones, too (and it makes sence, if you know and work with apple products only).
they are the kind of people that still drool if someone makes a bluescreen joke, or a virus joke. they, btw, often still think bill gates is in charge of microsoft.
so it all makes sense. i continue to do my part for wp7. so far, quite some converts happened. and without all-to-active propaganda. just gave it into the hands of some people, answered the few questions they might have had, and let them decide.

Hi, to refine Joe's response - Windows and other platforms are something we are examining. Right now we're focusing on fine tuning the existing apps on iOS and Android.
