[Q] cm browser question - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Call me silly but I can't seem to find the option for loading the regular version of pages. Only able to load the shortened mobile versions. Tried to find the load only mobile version option to uncheck it but can't seem to find it

I'm assuming you are using CM7 because I don't think there is one. I too would like to have webpages load only as normal. It was there for CM6 so I can only assume this just hasn't been added to the builds yet.

On Google home page hit classic instead of mobile! See if that's what ur lookn for
sent from dinc

Are you talking about browser user agent? Because you can select desktop browser agent in the browser settings menu
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk

Hitting classic on the google page only works until the next time you open your browser, it is also not a solution to the mobile view for google.com or other webpages that load automatically in mobile viewing.
Changing the user agent is not the correct option either. The option referred to is not in the 7 build of CM it was in CM6 but seems to not have been added to CM7 yet. It is a box you can unclick so that it does not load mobile versions of webpages.

[Q] Only mobile versions of websites?

How do I set my Tilt 2 to only load regular websites and not the mobile versions? I have tried a multiple browsers, set them to not load mobile and they still load mobile. Is it a setting within the phone itself?
Hi there,
It is indeed a settings option
- open opera and type: opera:config
- scroll down to "user prefs"
- scroll all the way down to "UAProf URL Enabled" and uncheck that box
- scroll down a little more and save "user Prefs"
- restart opera
& you are set 2 go!

I wished that had worked for me. I've tried just about every fix listed on these forums, and the only way to get full sites on my tilt2 is to tag ?m=false onto every non mobile page I want to load. Engadget and CNN are the two I am always testing on.

hard luck bro, try iris browser or skyfire..
btw wat do u mean by ?m=false where to tag this to c complete website
I happen to be on the opposite end. I wish the browser will automatically detect if it has a mobile version but for some reason, my phone always loads just whatever I type on the url. In order for me to load the mobile version, I always have to add m.
Is there anyway that even if I type like engadget.com, it will load m.engadget.com. It's just easier instead of having to add that m.
I think the original rom always tries to load the mobile version because htc probably made change to the preference or code but the energy rom which has the updated stock opera will load the full version by default unless you add the m.

it tags onto the end of the site url after the "/" or after ".html"... but I just checked, it looks like whether or not is works is site specific. Works fine on Engadget (which is what I browse frequently) but not CNN.
I do use skyfire, but it just seems to me that it has been getting consistently slower in page loads/refreshes when scrolling and more prone to timeouts over the last year. I had thought updating from the older version would help, but it seems about the same.

Opera mobile beta finally here!

More info on opera.com
Testing now!

Mirrors shamelessly copied from ipmart (thanks Diversity)
Wow, I love this board...!
Opera mobile 10.1 beta works like a charm on my Galaxy S Doc Froyo XWJPO v7.6.2. It even downloads flash-videos (e.g. tagesschau.de) and opens them with the internal video player. Only live stream is not working.
Thanks a lot. Is Opera going to publish this version or will Opera Mobile 10 for Android only be pre-installed on selected devices? (I read something like that on areamobile.de --> uu.uu.uu.areamobile.de/news/13631-opera-mobile-10-jetzt-auch-fuer-android)
Isn't the final version going to be released today?
Works amazingly fast and smooth on my galaxy s. I love it! It doesn't play all our even most flash content so it can't yet replace the stock browser, but once plugin support is there, I'll only use this one for sure!
Will the mobile version compress data like mini did?

I has an option to use compression or not.
What I like the most is reflow on pinch to zoom same way as on my nexus modded aosp stock used to be. Very familiar as symbian user as well.
No flash yet. Hope it comes.
Available on market now!!!
Also for those not familiar with the opera you can change opera user agent by opera:config menu (many other settings as well like cache, ram management etc.). User agent 2 will give you desktop and will auto launch youtube app so it's still better quality than what you get by default on mobile site as a consultation for not having full flash.

How do you get to the advanced settings? I cant seem to find it on this beta release
Gave it a quick try. Very good but still not perfect.
When zooming in the images and text are blurry for a second and it only updates after you stop zooming, unlike the stack browsers where it's instant.
It is very smooth when scrolling though.
Also in landscape mode, I can't zoom out fully. This is weird, why do they do this? It's not as bad as Opera Mini was in landscape but it still prevents this from being as nice to use as Dolphin HD. I want full control of zoom all the time, not just in portrait mode.
Also can't import bookmarks from the stock browser. Hope they add this ability.
Needs an exit button for when you don't want to leave it in the background, like Dolphin HD. Sometimes you want to close it so it doesn't return to it's previous state and rather starts 'fresh'.
Will keep it to see future updates and maybe if I want to preserve bandwidth when using mobile data. But Dolphin HD will stay as my default for now.
I have a problem on JPA... Internet browser won't save as default, no matter how many times I set it >_<
Great news.

I can zoom in and out completely in landscape and in portrait
Imports bookmarks and speed dial from desktop version. And unlike chrome to phone it actually works.
Agree with you for the rest except this is my browser of choice now. Waiting on beta 2

Depends on the site.
As a test go to myadsl.co.za.
In Dolphin HD (and I assume default browser too) when I hold the phone in landscape I can see the whole width of the site.
But on Opera I cannot, it refuses to zoom out that far.
It also seems to take longer to load the page (using Wi-fi), regardless of the Opera Turbo setting. This might just be someone else in the house using the connection at the same time as me though.
I'll give it a go later and maybe post back my findings. Opera Mobile on Symbian and Windows mobile were very good and i'd tried Opera Mini on some dumbphones as well and it worked well. I hadn't tried Opera Mini for Android as I didn't like the idea of only being restricted to using Opera's proxies (I assume that was the only option).
Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta for Android direct link from Opera or pick a version yourself over here.
No flash integration.... sigh.

I really was interested in having the youtube app playback youtube videos instead of the stock player. i changed the user agent to 2 as you describe above and it didnt work. i tried clearing cache, cookies, etc and restarting my phone. i have a htc droid eris running 2.1. can you provide more details on how you were able to get the youtube app to launch automatically from opera mobile?
thanks in advance.
Sorry seems web ignores uset agent string right now but if you go to bottom of youtube page and select full site next time you launch opera it will remember it and launch app respectively.

Thanks for trying, but it didnt work for me. it must have somethign to do with the url on youtube. It tried to launch the youtube player as you indicated but i got an error that it couldnt connect to the server.

Set it to whichever string you want from "User Prefs" -> "Custom User Agent"
Opera Mobile is the first browser to actually challenge the stock one for mobile browsing supremacy.

I tired string 2 as discussed above but it didnt work. i am a bit of a noob, so can you go through the exact settings when i do about:config? is there an index of what user agents the numbers correspond to? for example, when i use skyfire, the videos launch just fine in the youtube app. however, i agree with you abotu opera mobile and this is the only thing i need to be all set.
thanks in advance

Any way to fully spoof a user agent?

I know dolphin browser HD and skyfire have options to change the user agent in the settings but some sites that I have tried force the mobile version anyways. With that said, is there any method of fully spoofing the user agent to desktop? Any help is greatly appreciated.
"Open your browser, enter "about:debug" (without quotes )into the address bar, then hit the "Go" button on your keyboard—don't tap the search/URL suggestion that comes up. You'll notice that the browser now does, well, nothing. But hit your Menu key, choose the "More" option, then select Settings. Scroll down some, and you'll see a new collection of advanced options there, including a "UAString" option. Click that, then choose between Android, desktop, or iPhone user strings to change what browser web sites think you're visiting with. "
SELECT "DESKTOP"
Try this and see if it works for you.
Sent from my Evo Killer!!!
OP is using Dolphin and Skyfire browsers, which don't need about:debug for UA spoofing.
I could be wrong but I remember reading somewhere that some sites are able to use your installed Flash player to determine that you're not using a desktop browser. I think there was a modified Flash player that worked around that to allow you to view sites like Hulu, but I don't know where one could download it. Maybe search the forums for Hulu Flash player?
Good luck!

Simple question regarding browser

Getting a bit fed up of the browser showing me mobile versions of the sites I'm visiting and then having to request the real version via settings.
Any way to force real web sites all the time, I sure can't find the setting :-(
Thanks for your help!

Many sites will sniff your user agent to try to give you what they think is their best experience for mobile devices. You would need a way to hack the user agent to something non-Android to get good coverage. As a developer it's a pain in the ass to keep up with agent rules.
I personally like the sites that set a cookie so you can choose yourself without getting cornered.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
I think you should use this option only when the site offers no button to switch to the desktop site. Because when you use the option the site offers it normally sets a cookie to bring you back to the desktop site when you come back the next time.
Ah, was hoping for some super settings like my desire had where you could spoof the agent.

There is a Request Desktop Site in the browser settings. Haven't used it myself, but it sounds like it's what you're looking for. Or is it not?
You should be able to use the labs section to force a desktop UAstring always.
i know on Gingerbread you can type "about:debug" in the browser address bar (no quotations - nothing should happen after)
but when you go into your browser settings there are additional debug menus and there should be a User Agent setting there where you can set to "Desktop"
I'm not sure if ICS has it cause my GN isnt here yet
ahha you can give it a try
Just click on Menu, Settings, Debug... the UAString is in there.
I use third party browsers, most of them allow you to change your user agent. I recommend dolphin if you want to try one.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Yeah, the about:debug method has been there since the first Nexus. I can't confirm due to not having my phone yet, but it should still be there.
ics has a setting that you can select and it will always pull up the desktop version of the site which is really nice.
The stock broswer is pretty good on full sites. I have mine set to Linux agent. Mobile sites usually give me fits.

about:debug - is it meant to bring up a page like about:config in Firefox? If so then it doesn't work. As mentioned in a previous post, I have the debug option in the normal menus... perhaps about:debug or some of the other abouts I tried when I first got the device unlocked this, or perhaps it is there as standard.
Either way, you can change the UAString in there to Desktop.
People who are commenting that there is an ICS option to "load as desktop" - there is, but this means you still get the mobile pages quite often and then have to reload the page. The OP wanted something to just always open as Desktop... which UAString will do.
Cheers all, had to do about:debug in browser and then debug appeared in the menu. Sorted now!

typing about:debug doesn't do anything immediately in the page. It just enables the debug menu in the settings of the browser.
Noticed after applying this setting that some sites still load as the mobile version. Amazon.co.uk for one.
Any thoughts?

ICS Browser Weirdness

Has anyone else noticed that since the ICS update, none of the web browsers display in true "desktop" mode on certain sites? With Dolphin HD browser running under HC, ESPN and Engadget displayed the full, unmodified versions of the websites. Since the ICS upgrade, ESPN displays the default as the "Tablet Version" and Engadget is the mobile version. I've checked the settings in Dolphon and everything appears to be normal. I've even tried this with Skyfire, Chrome and Browser+, and none of them display every site in true desktop mode.
Can someone check out ESPN or Engadget and let me know if they are experiencing the same thing? I've done several Google searchs for similar problems with other devices, and found nothing.
Thanks in advance!
chrome has to choose "view mode in computer"
I've just checked Engadget here are my results:
Opera - User Agent Desktop. Loading Desktop version
ICS Browser+ - User Agent Desktop. Loading mobile version (it has option to switch to desktop view on the bottom of page, but then has big blue button on top "Back to mobile version")
Stock Browser - No option for user agent.Same as ICS Browser+
I have noticed a few od things with Dolphin HD and the Chrome Beta, but that was on the .012 leak. I have not tried the 014 release yet. I'm charging my tablet and will be flashing it today. I'll try some of the browsers and see what I get. The best way to check this would probably be to hit your own home page and run a CGI that reads http refers and see what it reports for user agent and OS.
I only really notice this on chrome, dolphin browser and stock browser work fine for me
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
Dolphin had some issues with flash videos in full screen. That's the only issue I ran into with it. The tablet beta wouldn't even run though
Browser rendering problems
Both the default ICS browser and Dolphin have difficulty rendering some Web sites. Sometimes objects like check boxes overwrite text so it is hard to select the check box or enter a password. I assume this is due to trying to cram the page into a small screen.
I also have noticed a few sites that seem to want to go to the mobile view, even when I select desktop view. But I don't see it as often as I did in HC.
